0:02 I'm just trying to make sure I look kind
0:06 of swo of yeah I know right yeah it just
0:08 it it sucks that it gets worse down the
0:13 line just like mus before I got get the
0:15 P for the interview yeah every interview
0:17 what's I don't have any value except for
0:19 arms so we've done that a few times
0:21 before drth because it's like The Encore
0:22 time and I've got like the black tank
0:23 off on I'm like I'm do some push-ups
0:24 just to get a
0:27 little just a little out of
0:29 breath keep him away from the stage
0:32 tonight you'd be fine or me out the
0:34 personal train right before get super
0:36 jacked before August red played their
0:38 last two here Jake and I played at the
0:39 Horden and there's a gym directly across
0:41 the road and he was like after I set do
0:43 you want to get you a lift in so we got
0:45 on stage he's like I found Jack for that
0:48 whole show good it's a delicate balance
0:49 using all your energy
0:52 on I mean yeah the late night caffeine
0:54 do you coffee before shows or does that
0:55 like affect your voice too much uh I'll
0:58 do in the morning but I try to like stay
1:00 away from coffee and dairy too close to
1:03 the show some people just like find out
1:05 go for it yeah how militant are you now
1:07 CU you guys are touring more than you
1:09 ever have longest saids how militant are
1:12 you on you know it's weird I was like
1:15 very militant for the last few years and
1:19 it was like starting to make me pretty
1:21 depressed really just like can't have
1:23 any fun or go anywhere like I was saying
1:25 yeah and then I went to the you know get
1:27 what you pay for go to the koala
1:29 sanctuary and you're outside and the
1:31 allergies and the dander and the Paul I
1:33 welcome to Australia now I'm like this
1:34 but I'm like you know what I'm just
1:37 gonna have fun with it and just like
1:39 like last night of the show it was like
1:41 everything's business as usual but I'm
1:44 like panicking in my head last time we
1:47 were here in Sydney that's true stop the
1:49 show because of my voice and I was like
1:51 that would be both terrible and
1:53 hilarious that happened last night I
1:55 have to experiencing something like that
1:57 though do has it given you a different
1:59 outlook on on how you approach this you
2:01 know cuz obviously you guys are super
2:03 professional and that's how you want to
2:05 present yourselves but at the core it's
2:07 still it's still punk rock it's still
2:09 metal has it kind of sort of given you a
2:11 reset on how you look at those sorts of
2:13 things dude it's such a hard balance
2:16 because like I said it's like you you
2:18 get too militant and too disciplined you
2:19 don't have any fun and you're just like
2:21 mad and angry the whole time and like
2:22 resentful you're like everyone else is
2:24 going out having fun going on adventures
2:26 amusement parks whatever and I'm like
2:28 afraid that I'm going to mess up my
2:31 voice if I talk too late hanging out or
2:33 anything so then you're like your mental
2:35 state is compromised and then that will
2:37 compromise the show so it's just like
2:40 weird I feel also it does translate to
2:42 the audience the audience can tell when
2:44 you're actually like present you're not
2:46 just like in your head about your voice
2:48 you're actually enjoying the show
2:49 they're the ones that people can tell
2:51 exactly so it's yeah there's last night
2:53 kind of was that example where it was
2:55 not my best show by any means like I had
2:57 to like kind of flip to my falsetto for
2:59 certain high notes which I don't like to
3:00 do cuz I I feel like that's like the
3:03 cool part of what I can do it's the high
3:06 note I sing and everyone gets excited
3:08 but I was just trying to like make it
3:10 fun yeah and I think for that reason
3:12 even though it wasn't my best vocal
3:14 performance it was like one of my
3:16 favorite shows of LeBron goofing around
3:19 having fun and just like I don't know I
3:20 was instead of like getting like kind of
3:22 mad at myself and like you know woes me
3:25 about it I was like I'm just I'd rather
3:27 go out there and like do a mid job in
3:29 front of 5,000 people and try yeah for
3:32 is like let 5,000 people down and be
3:34 like I can't sing tonight if I can't do
3:35 everything my voice can usually do look
3:37 I don't want to you know blow too much
3:41 smoke or fan fan girl too much but let's
3:42 let's be realistic let's be totally
3:44 transparent to everyone out there your
3:48 mid is you know it's still it's few
3:51 worlds above a lot of oist out there I'm
3:53 I'm finally learning that like I was our
3:55 our manager here uh came to see some of
3:57 the shows and uh I he was like the show
3:59 was incredible like how'd you feel and I
4:01 was like I'm realizing that things that
4:04 I notice I'm doing differently are like
4:06 holding back on most people AR noticing
4:07 unless they're like maybe the Fanatics
4:09 that watch every live video they're like
4:12 do the thingy all the you got a few of
4:14 those we do have those so it's like it's
4:16 hard it's hard to balance but I just I
4:18 don't pay attention yeah is that
4:21 something that's changed on this tour
4:24 cycle because You' become so much more
4:28 like present for the fans in terms of
4:30 like I guess you're not social media as
4:32 much but you've got a reputation and
4:35 everyone like knows how like perfect
4:37 everything's going to be yeah is that
4:38 something this tour particularly has
4:40 shown you been like a takeaway from this
4:41 album cycle being like we want to
4:43 actually go and enjoy it more now that
4:44 we're playing these bigger shows bigger
4:46 rooms to more people we actually want to
4:48 have more fun with it or is it kind of
4:49 been the opposite and you built more
4:50 pressure to
4:53 deliver I mean it just happens so fast
4:56 it's like it's kind of both like I said
4:58 there was like the past up until pretty
5:01 recently I was very milit and like just
5:03 not having any fun or doing anything or
5:06 talking and just like it got to me and
5:08 but the shows were getting bigger so I'm
5:10 like you justify it like you the the
5:12 stakes are higher there's like more
5:13 people you're disappointing there's more
5:15 money on the line like there's all these
5:17 reasons that like you have to be more
5:19 professional I have to treat myself like
5:21 a porcelain doll on tour because my
5:23 voice is and very
5:26 pretty my voice is my body but like I
5:28 said with this run in Australia I love
5:30 Australia also like we've only here once
5:32 the last time it was so much fun even
5:34 though like what happened with my voice
5:35 and stuff we didn't get to play all the
5:38 shows but um it's just such a good vibe
5:40 here and I was like I want to enjoy it
5:43 you know like and not just like it's a
5:44 job obviously it's our career and it's
5:47 very important and we we treated as such
5:49 but it's like not everyone can just go
5:52 to Australia even for fun on vacation
5:54 let alone get paid to go there yeah and
5:57 like perform and do what you want to do
5:58 so I was like I'm gonna go out and have
6:00 fun and like hang out with my friends
6:02 after the show and see the go to the
6:05 sanctuaries and stuff never
6:09 again you know so uh yeah I I guess now
6:10 it's just a balance of like not being
6:12 too irresponsible like I still go to
6:15 sleep early every night and stuff but um
6:16 it's still yeah it's still defin but not
6:18 just torturing myself because there is a
6:19 part of my psyche where I think it's
6:21 like if I don't suffer for it it's not
6:24 worth it or it's not going to be as as
6:26 profound or deep or something you know
6:27 that you just think it's like it there
6:31 has to be a struggle for it be important
6:33 was that kind of like part of your
6:34 thought process though when you said you
6:36 know like you were so militant but the
6:38 shows were getting bigger was there any
6:40 part of you that was like well [ __ ] like
6:42 everything is going the right way I have
6:44 to I have to keep being this way because
6:46 if I don't it might not progress the
6:48 same way well that for sure is a big
6:51 part of like the like the strategy of it
6:53 but also like I feel like I set a
6:56 precedent and a bar CU like I was so
6:58 militant and my voice I feel like every
7:00 night was really great for the most part
7:01 every tour we were doing like I was
7:04 trying to one up myself every tour do
7:05 new things or like try adding new high
7:07 notes and
7:10 just it's just like a a hamster wheel
7:11 you know it's like it's it's never
7:13 ending trying to like beat yourself and
7:16 one up yourself all the time and it just
7:18 gets like not fun when it's just like
7:20 that's all it's about it's like
7:21 impressing yourself or impressing other
7:24 people yeah yeah that's a really good
7:27 with that being said coming into writing
7:29 new music and moving forwards is there
7:31 thought on that have been like leaving
7:33 Yourself room to be more creative live
7:35 and the way you record things because
7:36 there I know like we've got friends and
7:39 Pand like I wrote it this way knowing
7:41 that this is what the live sounds going
7:42 to be so it can always be more
7:43 impressive or is that not really
7:45 consideration uh I think part of the new
7:48 stuff we're writing has that in mind
7:49 like now that this is the most touring
7:51 we've ever done on this album cycle
7:53 obviously because it just took off and
7:55 I'm learning a lot about my voice
7:57 touring and like what I can and can't do
8:00 and just like how to manage when it's
8:01 something that's so nuanced as like your
8:04 body it's like oh I went outside to
8:06 check the mail today and now my throat's
8:07 scratchy because it's like the pollen
8:09 you know like you can't it's really hard
8:11 to quantify and like police that you
8:13 know and even now like we go in tour and
8:15 I'm like oh we should get humidifier and
8:17 like dust and vacuum the rooms just to
8:19 like do that extra credit to try things
8:21 you know because you can't see what's
8:25 happening your body but with the new
8:28 music um I definitely think there's a
8:29 part of it where I'm trying to leave
8:33 room for fun where it's not so rigid
8:36 because our show is very I almost view
8:38 it like a movie you know it's like it's
8:42 very like on a track and like like a
8:43 tram line I guess you could say and it's
8:47 like rehearsed like to a te and
8:48 everything's automated with the lights
8:52 and the content and stuff so it is kind
8:54 of like trying to recreate the same
8:56 movie every night and that gets boring
8:58 too and like exhausting so that's
8:59 another reason I was saying like trying
9:02 to have more fun and joke around again
9:03 with the audience and if my voice isn't
9:05 feeling good like make light of it or
9:07 just be more engaging and like make up
9:09 in other ways if I if I'm not hitting
9:10 all the notes I want to hit it's like
9:12 maybe make more eye contact or interact
9:15 more with the audience but again it's
9:17 like there's every night's different you
9:19 know it's like I could be in a bad mood
9:21 and not feel like doing that yeah you
9:22 know it's like there's so much to it and
9:25 I feel like a lot of people just make it
9:28 about them or their city it's like oh he
9:31 hates us yeah he did this here and it's
9:33 like no I'm just a person and some days
9:37 I don't like the day you know to melbour
9:41 and don't play like he hates us that's
9:42 the thing though that's that's such a
9:44 great Point as as well it's like I think
9:47 that when there's artists like you know
9:49 like yourself and like vessel from sleep
9:52 token artists that have had such an
9:55 impact on people and have created this really
9:56 really
10:00 just strong connected fan base that that
10:02 like have nothing but complete adoration
10:04 I think at some
10:07 point that whole fantasy of who you are
10:10 as an artist they they forget that
10:13 beyond all that there's still just a
10:16 dude that gets up in the morning and has
10:18 to take a piss a tummy egg you know
10:21 exactly like everybody else yeah and
10:23 it's like it's also not your job to
10:26 remind people of that yeah I mean again
10:29 that's such a spectrum of like you know
10:30 if you compare yourself to I don't know
10:32 Justin Bieber or like someone that's
10:34 even on a other Stratosphere of
10:36 celebrity and fame it's like it's all
10:38 the same but it's like different people have
10:39 have
10:42 different experiences with with that and
10:44 like what that means so there's some
10:46 people that there's so much magic in the
10:48 band to them like you were saying with
10:50 with vessel and sleep token in their fan
10:53 base where it's it's like so
10:56 mysterious um people that have no
10:58 experience with that like conversation
11:00 of like hey these are still just like
11:02 people performing and like doing a job
11:04 with their craft and their art and like
11:08 they get sick or they get emotional or
11:09 whatever there is like the
11:11 bittersweetness to that disconnect where
11:14 it's like still so magical to the fan
11:15 where there's like I there's this thing
11:17 that's so inspiring and it's so cool and
11:19 it's like pulls you away from yourself
11:21 when you go see a show I think that's
11:23 why I try to make our shows so like
11:25 cinematic and like yeah immersive and
11:27 like an experience and like we go hard
11:29 on production cuz I I really people feel
11:31 like they're like seeing something that
11:33 they haven't seen before that captivates
11:36 them and it's doesn't feel phoned in I
11:38 feel like that's also with you guys in
11:40 particular because you don't have like a
11:42 really strong personal social media
11:46 presence yeah I think that magic is is
11:48 pardon me always going to be there
11:50 because when people see you on stage and
11:53 they listen to your music besides things
11:55 like this they they're not really
11:58 getting much of an insight into you as a
12:00 person behind the scenes
12:01 so they're taking as much of that as
12:04 they can through how you present in
12:06 aband that's yeah that's that's who you
12:09 are to them well social media has kind
12:12 of like falsified this like entitlement
12:15 to that information I think 100% where
12:17 it's like people that because so many
12:20 artists are trying and struggling to get
12:23 the attention of fans or get new fans or
12:25 have success in music they're like
12:26 trying all these things to like please
12:29 look at me yeah and it's become so
12:31 normal that I feel like bands that treat
12:33 social media the way we do are the
12:35 weirdos like we're the ones doing it
12:36 wrong or something because we're not
12:38 sharing every thought we have or like
12:41 every opinion or every meal that we eat
12:44 get ready with me yeah and I'm like you
12:46 know we're kind of the normal ones
12:48 depending on who you ask but yeah but
12:50 even then it's like what's normal you
12:52 know yeah how's that Chang it's just so
12:56 like standard now like with how like
12:58 intertwined we are with social media and
13:00 like the the digital space like that
13:02 being our identity that I think it's
13:04 hard for people to grasp that not
13:06 everyone is doing that yeah you know but
13:07 I also think that's like I said like
13:09 that's the magic and the fun of it it's
13:11 like I don't want to put out a music
13:13 video and the next day show you the BTS
13:15 of how it was made it's like enjoy it
13:17 for a little bit no different than like
13:18 a movie it's like go see the movie in
13:22 theaters enjoy the movie and watch
13:24 digest it and then when the the DVD is
13:26 not going to come out but you know like
13:28 watch the making or the BTS or whatever
13:30 D I miss that though I missed that
13:31 that's why that's where the thought came
13:33 from I was about the Lord of the Rings
13:35 Deluxe with the commentary so good there
13:37 N9 Hours of Happiness to me right there
13:39 that was how my that was how my son fell
13:40 in love with like things like stranger
13:42 things he watched it and like things
13:44 like the Alien movies and stuff but then
13:46 he would always cuz I had him on DVD
13:49 because I'm a nerd and I'm old um he old
13:50 but he would actually want to watch the
13:52 making of and he would it number one it
13:54 was great because it gave him that
13:56 disconnect from Like These people aren't
13:58 really dying so that was cool cuz he
14:00 wasn't having night but was like this
14:03 isol the way they about who they are the
14:06 and the way they you know worku out and
14:07 you're right I don't think that people
14:09 should be entitled to that sort of stuff
14:11 I think it's a luxury it has become a
14:12 marketing St you and I talked about a
14:15 heaps with um Deadpool Wolverine I was
14:16 like I felt like I'd seen most of the
14:17 movie before it came out because my
14:19 algorithm was just like you like this
14:21 thing once let's all it and so I got
14:22 there and it actually took away from the
14:24 experience for me for that reason
14:26 because I didn't get to like just take
14:28 it everything in and then later on be
14:30 like oh that's film that thing I was
14:32 like oh this scene he danced like this
14:33 because of this scene with that person
14:34 like I already knew it all it did take
14:36 away it's like going to a magic show and
14:37 before it starts it's like we're going
14:39 to tell you how we do all exactly
14:42 there's a rabbit here by the way still
14:43 the best part about magic is I I still
14:44 don't know how they do those [ __ ]
14:48 card tricks man yeah so we touched
14:50 before about like the Justin beavers
14:52 that level of Fame yeah is it a weird
14:53 thing or is it something you consider
14:55 because you guys have like this isn't it
14:57 hasn't been an overnight success for you
14:58 like you guys have been a band for so
15:02 long You' got a back behind you but to
15:04 all of a sudden on one album just go
15:07 like and now we're in the stratosphere
15:11 in terms of like really weird in the the
15:14 metal alt scene to have that
15:17 recognition how was it that shift for
15:18 you mentally like accepting that level
15:21 of recognition and awareness of
15:24 people um it definitely taught me a lot
15:27 about like social media and what I do
15:29 and don't want in my life like in the
15:32 real world yeah you know
15:35 and I don't know I think like we were
15:38 just saying it's like just putting out
15:41 there what you're giving you know like
15:43 the music or a video or if you're
15:45 putting out merch or whatever it's like
15:48 that is the exchange and and like you
15:50 said anything past that is a luxury it's
15:52 like I don't have to tell you what I eat
15:54 for breakfast today or like what I
15:56 thought about no Fatu or whatever it's
15:59 like well that goes my next
16:00 yeah what did you think by the way it's
16:03 like I yeah I don't know it's just it's
16:05 really weird it's so much deeper than
16:07 just bad Omens in my band it's like me
16:10 spectating the state of the the world
16:13 right now and just like how rapidly it's
16:15 changing because technology like
16:18 compounds on itself so it's like I don't
16:21 I don't feel like we can keep up like we
16:23 as people like regardless of your age
16:25 group it's like it's just spiraling too
16:27 quickly for us to keep up with like
16:29 Trends or what's normalized like what's
16:32 socially acceptable yeah like it's just
16:34 gotten it's also that's exactly Chang so
16:36 quickly what's socially acceptable now
16:39 first six months ago yeah is not a thing
16:40 I always see those videos of like the
16:44 influences in the wild and like girls
16:45 dancing on the street or whatever like
16:48 imagine seeing that five years ago yeah
16:50 that's crazy that's just relatively
16:52 accepted now people just like standing
16:56 in the B Dancing Yeah like this a crazy
16:57 it's like they're not really doing
16:59 anything to bother anyone so sure you
17:01 know whatever but it's like it's it's a
17:03 little different you're not used to it
17:04 like you're at the bus stop and
17:05 someone's like doing a Tik Tok dance
17:07 looking at their phone like we have the
17:09 ring light set up
17:11 and blocking out the world like they
17:13 just that's my thing maybe it's my like
17:16 self-awareness I would feel so conscious
17:18 if everyone walked past but they're just
17:20 like not breaking contact the thing at
17:21 the same time you're like wow that's
17:24 pretty brave that's 100 like I would
17:26 never do that I would feel so like
17:28 uncomfortable doing like I would feel
17:30 like so I couldn't be seen doing that
17:32 you know what I would do in the mirror
17:33 in my bedroom as a also I never get
17:35 anything right the first time so the
17:36 amount of times I'd have to do that in
17:38 the bus stop to get it right just be
17:40 [ __ ] PVE money for the behind the
17:42 scenes of that watching you just on
17:45 repeat stuffing all right so the last
17:47 three years how what's changed for you
17:49 in terms of like what's inspiring you
17:50 because you guys have been up to tour
17:52 and play some like awesome shows big
17:54 festivals had something is there change
17:57 for you being like this tour cycle has
18:05 um I guess Mayhem Festival yeah that
18:07 that kind of kickstarted what is the
18:10 current tour cycle like name or whatever
18:13 you call it the the brand or the chapter
18:15 the goodbye friend yeah thing we're
18:18 doing um every time we've done like a a
18:20 series of Tours or a leg of whatever
18:23 this album cycle like headline tours are
18:25 there's like a name and like an image to
18:26 associate with it we had concrete
18:29 forever had Concrete Jungle
18:32 um and for Mayhem because that was our
18:35 first and I think like biggest Festival
18:39 headline spot we've been offered um I
18:41 really wanted to make it new and special
18:42 because we've been playing the same set
18:44 for like a year from
18:48 forever and putting together a set like
18:51 with this band is not easy it's it's
18:53 really hard like it's not just changing
18:55 the order of the songs like I make it so
18:57 much more difficult like I change
18:59 sometimes the structure
19:01 need to new intro more difficult than
19:03 needs to be the boys just like distance
19:05 themselves now just go you know what
19:07 dude have your moment we'll come back
19:10 new visuals you know like Concepts and
19:13 stuff and for Mayhem I spent most of the
19:15 summer doing that
19:17 yeah there's also tons of people helping
19:19 I'm not act like I do it all like we
19:21 have a huge crew but like
19:23 conceptualizing and creatively I'm very
19:25 involved in all that um and with the
19:27 audio like tracks and stuff and the the
19:31 musical stuff and uh it ate up most of
19:33 my summer which otherwise I would have
19:36 been spent doing writing music you know
19:38 so it's it's always this like you're
19:40 never going to please anyone thing it's
19:43 like oh same set list what the hell or
19:46 we also want new music also come come to
19:49 Europe and Brazil maybe give us
19:52 a come to Brazil also a new album also
19:54 like no new
19:57 haircut yeah I will say though and
20:00 that's something that from like a fans
20:02 perspective yeah the change up and the
20:05 shift off one album because you said
20:06 it's like it's played some place three
20:08 or four times off the back one album but
20:09 it's a new experience every time so the
20:11 fans are still getting something that's
20:13 [ __ ] cool and I think that's
20:15 something that not many bands are doing
20:17 yeah that you guys should be really
20:19 proud of the fact that you're able to
20:21 bring this new experience to people who
20:23 have seen it well we we've tried to
20:25 space it out and that's that's why I
20:27 think why we came to Australia was
20:29 because we hadn't been here in a long
20:31 time we made this new show
20:35 and uh the US and Europe had seen two
20:37 versions of our headliner at this point
20:39 and we were like well let's we put a ton
20:41 of effort and money into this new show A
20:43 Goodbye friend and I was like let's go
20:45 somewhere we haven't been in a long time
20:47 and the one time we were there wasn't
20:49 exactly successful with this new thing
20:52 yeah so I don't know if to me it's like
20:54 if I'm not putting out new music I want
20:55 to be putting out something new and
20:56 exciting for the people that are still
21:00 engaging and coming to so still fresh as
21:02 like maybe that's my like own
21:04 subconscious like thank you for still
21:06 like being patient with us because it
21:08 takes us a long time to write music
21:09 because that stuff doesn't get lost on
21:11 fans either though it's still it's it's
21:13 super appreciated when you see a band
21:15 like because there are a lot of bands
21:18 that don't necessarily phone it in but
21:20 could could do tours off the back of you
21:22 know one album or whatever and
21:24 continuously just come and just maybe
21:26 swap out a couple of songs and fans will
21:28 still eat it up and enjoy it because of
21:30 the like I guess the community they've
21:32 created or the vibe they've created but
21:34 seeing a band that has such a vested
21:38 interest in redefining themselves as
21:40 musicians and as a live performance yeah
21:42 he's not lost on true music fans I like
21:45 to think so I hope so because it's dude
21:47 look at the ticket sales that tells you
21:48 the people there you're saying like the
21:50 last wasn't successful the fact that
21:51 everything sold out instantly that's a
21:53 success to me that tells me that people
21:55 were happy with what happened last time
21:57 this this I I found out before we got
21:59 here that this was like the big headline
22:01 like tour we've done oh hell yeah like
22:04 look at that it's St in terms of like
22:06 tickets per City I guess you know this
22:08 is the biggest tour we've done sick
22:10 pretty cool has it felt that way at the
22:13 shows yeah I mean at a certain point it
22:15 depends on the venue yeah in Europe we
22:18 did we did one pretty big headline where
22:20 was that L was that what city was that
22:21 the big 6,000
22:25 green Dresden Dres oh Germans love that
22:27 was the biggest one in Europe and that
22:29 that felt pretty cool but around that
22:31 size depending on like the space it's
22:33 hard to tell other than like the fan crowd
22:34 crowd
22:36 engagement but Brisbin was for sure
22:38 really fun that's been like kind of the
22:40 consistent feedback from everyone been
22:42 like that was the Big Show of the tour
22:44 and of our career headlining that like
22:47 so far was that R Edge yeah yeah sick
22:48 yeah loving that door venue yeah that's
22:50 a great venue too yeah it was a lot of
22:52 fun I probably went too hard on it
22:54 talking my boys Sydney but I was but you
22:57 were having fun yeah exactly I was like
22:58 you know what like let's make this a
23:01 cool moment and like go all out see what
23:03 happens tomorrow I like that all right
23:05 so one of the question we asked a lot of
23:06 lately and I'm really interesting to
23:08 hear your take on this is you get to see
23:11 one album played in full front to back
23:14 of any time what do you see there been a
23:16 few like anniversary tools coming around
23:17 that sort of set this up for us and
23:20 being like bands that we want to see out
23:22 front to back you could be really
23:23 arrogant right now and say your own
23:25 albums don't do
23:28 that I'm I'm dying for new music more
23:31 than anyone I promise we play it every
23:35 night um let me think
23:37 maybe this is a deep cut I rediscovered
23:39 recently that I I forgot I loved for a
23:41 long time but from under the cork tree I
23:44 fall out I could write like an essay
23:46 massive fallet boy fans I can write an
23:48 essay about why that album is so cool
23:50 and so great and I would love to see
23:51 that played live I can't wait to stop
23:53 recording you talk you more about that
23:55 because s that is the album that
23:57 single-handedly got me back into pop
23:58 punk because obviously when I grew up
23:59 like listen the punk the bands I was
24:01 listening to was like Penny wise The
24:03 Offspring all that and then I went off
24:05 it for a while and it was fallout boy
24:07 that got me to go and check out bands
24:10 like um like yellow card and and like
24:12 New Found Glory and stuff like that it's
24:14 for me that was because I had that like
24:16 the hardcore sensibilities behind it
24:18 that was what was there for me that
24:21 other bands at the time simpol plan and
24:22 stuff that I was like listen to didn't
24:24 have that they had like the hooks but
24:26 volet boy had like something heavy
24:27 behind and I wasn't in heavy music at
24:31 that stage because I was 14 but damn
24:34 that I'm really stok that answer well
24:36 done you're welcome back
24:40 anytime so I want to ask um look like
24:41 it's we've talked a little bit about
24:44 social media and stuff and with how easy
24:46 it is for bands to get their music out
24:49 to people but also the the stress of
24:50 that and the workload that that comes
24:53 with that um what do you think is the
24:57 biggest hurdle facing bands in you know
25:03 I don't know I I could just be
25:05 disconnected but I I I feel like there's
25:08 not a lot of new bands coming out that
25:10 are like really grabbing people like
25:12 again I could be totally off the march
25:13 here I was like there's this band this
25:15 band they're great I just don't know
25:17 about him but I comment below yeah
25:21 comment if I'm wrong uh but I think
25:23 people are like really attached to the
25:25 idea of Success Through like a format
25:27 like Tik Tok being the leading one right
25:30 now yeah yeah but y last I checked in on
25:32 that it's
25:34 like it just kind of looks the same like
25:36 everyone's got like they're like they
25:37 got the front light with the ring light
25:40 they got the sm7b they got the Cinematic
25:42 mode on their iPhone vertical and
25:43 they're just
25:45 like do you want to know what it would
25:47 sound like if Kid Rock did the Shrek
25:50 soundtrack like I'm gonna show
25:53 you every he just right they watching go ring
25:54 ring
25:56 light7 Shrek
26:00 full and I'm like yeah I don't know I
26:02 just I don't want to like put a blanket
26:04 stand on everyone that's trying to make
26:06 music because I think there's always
26:08 going to be like it's probably an age
26:10 thing too it's like these are the tools
26:11 that are easily accessible and
26:13 affordable to people trying to get into
26:14 music and that's what they see all their
26:17 peers doing yeah so you have to start
26:20 somewhere maybe that's like vertical
26:23 selfie Style videos on Tik Tok and the
26:25 people that are like that have found
26:27 what their calling is and like good at
26:29 what they're doing are going to be
26:31 better at it as they get better they
26:33 like where they're probably going to
26:35 start I get it though because like I
26:37 feel the same with us like I feel like
26:39 we're good at we're good at what we do
26:40 we're real [ __ ] good professional
26:43 idiots yeah but like I mean and then I
26:45 look at things like Tik Tok and I'm like
26:47 how do we utilize that because I can't
26:49 be 40 years old doing a dance or like
26:51 you know to a new hard course or the the
26:53 sing along with no words of you know the
26:55 mouthing along I can't do that I think
26:57 it's just obvious when it's genuine and
26:59 when it's just genuine cuz with us like
27:02 I think we're a great example of Tik Tok
27:06 working for us and us not working for
27:07 Tik Tok I guess you can say because we
27:10 never did any of that style of content
27:12 where we're like talking to the camera
27:14 like trying to like hop on a trend or
27:16 like cover a popular song right now or
27:19 whatever but we had all this success on
27:21 Tik Tok and we've only ever posted like
27:23 the content that we make and every other
27:25 format that we like on there like the
27:27 horizontal cinematic tour video updates
27:29 and Stu the way the way we like to
27:31 present our brand and our visuals and
27:33 we're not like adhering to this like
27:36 Trend that I feel like is so repetitive
27:38 with that like I guess film style or
27:42 whatever it is with like I don't know I
27:45 I just think that uh people take
27:47 inspiration maybe too literally when it
27:49 comes to Tik Tok or they're like it
27:51 needs to look like this I need this tool
27:53 got sound like this I got to have the
27:55 captions and like the witty oneliner
27:57 that grabs people it's kind of like inspir
27:58 inspir
28:01 has it's like too forced yeah it's like
28:03 this it's not like I'm inspired by this
28:05 it's like this is this is the template
28:07 this is this is the process if I don't
28:09 do this I'm not going to Trend I'm not
28:11 going to hit algorithm people aren't
28:12 going to see it and go need to click
28:14 that yeah and that's like that's like
28:16 the redundancy of it where it's like why
28:18 is that what you want like is that
28:19 really the goal because maybe if you
28:21 like shift your focus of like I'm G to
28:22 make something really cool and proud of
28:25 today put it out in a way that I want it
28:27 to be perceived you know with like this
28:29 type of film style or this type of
28:31 lighting or whatever and then see what
28:34 happens like eventually people gravitate
28:36 towards the real thing you know what I
28:39 mean yeah absolutely is the irony not
28:41 lost on you that like you've talked
28:43 about writing pretend being like this is
28:45 the sty is only right and that's the one
28:48 that really hit off for you I've being
28:50 like if I really want to do this we can
28:53 just do this and have success it the one
28:55 time You' like actively tried to ride
28:56 that sort of style it just did exactly
28:58 what you planed to do like that's kind
29:00 of ironic to be fair with just pretend
29:03 it's like that that whole lore behind it
29:05 really got stretched like that's how the
29:07 song Started in his demo phase it was
29:11 just like a vocal and a guitar and it
29:13 was like 30 seconds of music yeah and
29:15 then they had divers chorus with
29:18 different lyrics and I was like this is
29:19 pretty catchy Melody and these are good
29:21 chords for this melody yeah and that's
29:23 when we were like let's take this
29:25 serious so I'm not going to act like the
29:27 entire song was molded around like a bit
29:28 like let's make a rock song that's going
29:31 to be successful in rock radio yeah I
29:32 mean yeah because it it doesn't sound
29:35 like it's the one song on the album or
29:36 in the discography that has that sound
29:39 it still is bad AR that was just like
29:41 the Genesis of the demo where I was like
29:44 I'm gonna make a stupid but Rock songing
29:46 same it's just it's just proof that like
29:47 one day I'll put the demo out it's
29:49 hilarious like I'm Not
29:52 Afraid Scott
29:57 Scott I would love to know or hear like
29:59 that going for like new songs coming out
30:01 being like we're going to start in this
30:02 St and see how we can like more like
30:04 other songs like it might be like I
30:06 don't know something like yeah like
30:08 Ramstein s can play off that and then
30:11 see what becomes B Yeah country song at
30:14 the end yeah jump on that we would do it
30:15 if it works if it sounds cool we would
30:17 do it but like I was saying it's it's
30:19 just proof that like that formula that
30:21 format of writing music works if the
30:23 songs good it just comes down to good
30:26 songwriting it comes down to honest like
30:29 presentation it comes of good Melodies
30:31 you got it everything is like it's
30:33 really that simp it's like intuitive you
30:35 know it's just like an instinct it's
30:37 like oh this this food tastes good it's
30:38 like why it's like I don't know the
30:40 person that made it knew what they were
30:41 doing or they put the right [ __ ] in it
30:43 you know like yeah like it's just an
30:44 instinctual thing whether the song is
30:47 like fresh conceptually in the
30:48 production you've never heard before
30:50 it's got weird sense sounds like that
30:52 could be the the starting point or the
30:54 thing that grabs people or it could be a
30:56 basic song fundamentally like just prend
30:58 is which is just kind of cords and drums
31:02 and minimal keywork that's just well
31:04 written good Melodies lyrics lyrics that
31:06 work with the melody you know like we
31:07 have songs that are way more
31:09 experimental on the record that I think
31:11 conceptually are like more Innovative
31:13 like Concrete Jungle y you know not a
31:15 successful as just pretend but just
31:17 pretend is just a great it's like Oasis
31:22 wall
31:25 get everyone in the world knows it what
31:28 do you think is your most underrated
31:31 song that you guys play at the moment
31:34 underrated good question M I like that
31:39 professional um like what's the song
31:41 that you're like I [ __ ] love this
31:44 song and it doesn't get the response I
31:46 think it deserves and you [ __ ] better
31:48 go and stream because I'm just GNA help
31:51 you boost it right now so um I think the
31:53 drain okay I like the drain a lot that
31:55 one kind of I feel like flew under the
31:58 radar The Single for the OST um
32:00 but something about it it just has like
32:03 a cool feeling and it's very simple but
32:06 um it has this like very like seedy
32:10 Subterranean feeling to to me that I I
32:11 it's really fun to play Live especially
32:13 because it's just like right in my Q
32:15 Zone singing it's like super easy to
32:17 sing and have fun with and like you know
32:20 throw some spice on it and stuff but
32:22 probably the dream okay I like that we
32:24 haven't really talked about you being in
32:27 Australia much except for obviously the
32:28 qu was giving it pay fever and that's
32:31 before we started recording so yeah pay
32:33 fever sounds so much worse than
32:35 allergies by the way yeah yeah is that
32:41 guys terrible dise have you so obviously
32:43 this is a little bit different this time
32:44 coming around other than the Whirlwind
32:46 that was good things Festival have you
32:48 given yourself a little bit more time to
32:50 to see a bit of the country and explore
32:51 and hang and that sort of stuff and you
32:53 enjoying that yeah when well when we
32:55 came because we have so much production
32:57 now we we have a lot of rehearsal days
32:59 yeah to make sure everything's working
33:01 and you know going good and also to make
33:03 sure we're acclimated to like the time
33:06 zone and the environment so we got here
33:08 like a week before the first show and
33:09 we're just hanging out in Melbourne you
33:13 know like sightseeing rehearsing hanging
33:15 out um we went to
33:18 the Brisbane as Lone Pine yeah that's
33:19 where we went to Lone Pine and then in
33:21 Melbourne we went to a
33:23 different uh animal sanctuary you know
33:30 you need to do
33:33 nextg metal song names for for
33:36 sanctuaries here nothing more metal than
33:37 a sanctuary
33:41 with yeah next time yeah we do tongo we
33:42 need to take him along and see if he's
33:44 commentary of animals is as good as
33:46 Jesse so Jesse when we took him to the
33:48 zooo he was just doing this real bad
33:52 Australian accent trying to trying to
33:53 you know narrate what the animals would
33:54 be doing I like hearing you do an
33:57 Australian accent like forced Jesse's
33:59 Australian accent he's doing just yeah
34:01 it's quite it's two layers
34:03 of an Australian doing an American doing
34:06 an Australian yeah that's deep in no I
34:07 just love it here though it's great
34:10 Melbourne was fun people here are great
34:13 food's great weather's awesome minus the
34:14 random flash floods that's been
34:17 happening this is yeah Sydney really
34:19 like you got 43 degrees yesterday and
34:21 then today's raining in 20 that's pretty
34:24 well that's great though uh let's let's
34:26 help manifest we'll finish the up
34:28 because I don't take
34:30 we've had some luck in the past with
34:32 bands of like talking about who they
34:33 want to play with who they'd like to
34:35 feature and that's come true so I want
34:37 you to put things down to the atmosphere
34:38 here of what's a band you guys have
34:39 never been able to play with you would
34:42 love to play with or even collaborate
34:44 with huh because like there youve got to
34:46 collaborate with a bunch of really sick
34:48 artists so I think that's something
34:49 that's really exciting it's hard to say
34:50 because I feel like I'm kind of cooked
34:53 on collaborations
34:56 after um a band we I would like to play with
34:58 with
35:00 um doesn't have to be in your wheelhouse
35:02 either it could be like real left shial
35:04 well I had this thought recently I would
35:05 I think it'd be cool to collaborate with Bo
35:06 Bo
35:09 Burnham the comedian I think there'd be
35:11 something like really interesting like
35:13 some kind of fun social commentary we
35:16 could try to litter in there with with
35:18 that but it's uh we regularly talk about
35:20 two of his the country one he does and
35:22 then the one we does the Kanye stall
35:25 song that I've seen it so many times I
35:28 love Burnham it's great uh
35:30 we never we never play with Disturbed
35:32 that would be a cool one oh yeah that
35:34 was like the first metal band I really
35:36 got into I feel like you guys that suit
35:40 that yeah 9 in Nails would be a cool
35:42 that's like super out there yeah as far
35:44 as like the type of Fest and stuff we
35:46 play so if you would have put together
35:48 your dream festival lineup you don't
35:50 have to be playing it give us five bands
35:52 that would make up your ultimate it's
35:54 you want to go and watch my dream
35:58 festival lineup with five bands okay
36:00 um they could be they could be deceased
36:02 or broken up or
36:06 whatever wow that's tough
36:08 tough
36:10 uh Caroline
36:15 po um I instantly don't know who that is
36:20 uh let me think um I'm really bad at
36:22 these Fallout Boy let's go fallout boy
36:25 playing yeah cork tree in full yeah
36:28 playing cork tree and full Carol playing
36:31 Welcome to My Island in full uh all
36:32 these artists are just going to play my
36:33 favorite records of when everyone else
36:35 at the festival they can just deal with
36:40 it um let me think who else who else do
