0:05 Around the world, people are living
0:09 longer, but often with multiple diseases
0:11 and conditions that require care over
0:15 many years. And unfortunately, too many
0:18 people are not informed or consulted in
0:20 the care they
0:23 receive. In some countries, only one in
0:25 three people have the risks of their
0:28 treatment explained to them. One in five
0:31 people have at least one unnecessary
0:34 test and up to 40% of health spending is
0:37 wasted due to
0:39 inefficiency. Health care should not be
0:43 like this. Remember people live with
0:44 their condition
0:48 24/7 not only when they seek care.
0:50 That's why people centered care is so important.
0:52 important.
0:54 People centered care means ensuring that
0:57 health services are tailored to people's
1:00 needs and are provided in partnership
1:02 with them rather than simply given to
1:05 them. It means care where people,
1:08 families, and communities are respected,
1:10 respected, informed,
1:12 informed,
1:16 engaged, supported, and treated with
1:19 dignity and compassion.
1:21 People centered care can have lasting
1:24 benefits. It improves the trust,
1:27 experience and outcomes people have from
1:29 care, the confidence and job
1:32 satisfaction of health professionals and
1:35 the quality and efficiency of health
1:38 systems. People centered care can
1:41 increase access to health services and
1:44 reduce unnecessary use of services.
1:46 Ultimately, it means people get the
1:50 right care at the right time and in the
1:53 right place. But too often, this type of
1:55 care is not standard
1:57 practice. Implementing people centered
2:01 care requires fundamental changes in our
2:02 approach to
2:05 healthcare. It means rethinking how
2:08 health services are organized, managed,
2:10 and delivered.
2:13 It means shifting away from asking what
2:16 is the matter with you to what matters to
2:17 to
2:19 you. Around the world, the World Health
2:22 Organization is working with countries
2:25 to design health systems that put people
2:27 and their needs at the center of
2:31 care because that's the health care that
