0:02 going to college or university could be
0:03 one of the biggest mistakes you make in
0:05 life sure it made sense in the past but
0:08 we live in a very different time today
0:09 I'm going to speak about three hidden
0:11 risks that almost no one ever speaks
0:12 about and then I'm going to tell you
0:14 about the different Alternatives you can
0:16 consider instead of going to college
0:18 hidden risk number one career risk when
0:20 you go to college and get a degree you
0:23 are assuming that that specific field
0:25 will still be in high demand and exist
0:27 in 4 years now back in the day this was
0:29 almost guaranteed the world changed
0:32 slowly but this is no longer the case we
0:34 are currently living in the exponential
0:36 Age Technology and Innovation is
0:38 happening faster than it's ever happened
0:40 before in human history the amount of
0:42 change that used to happen in 100 years
0:45 now happens in just 10 years and this is
0:47 going to speed up even more because of
0:49 the emergence of AI let's say you're in
0:51 high school and you plan on spending 4
0:53 years studying to become an architect
0:55 someone who designs buildings for a
0:57 living well it turns out that AI is
0:58 already getting pretty good at this
1:00 there are apps out there where you can
1:02 simply scan a room and it will give you
1:03 several designs that would fit into
1:05 those Dimensions it's already pretty
1:07 good not good enough to completely
1:09 replace an architect but just imagine
1:12 where it might be 4 years down the line
1:14 let me remind you this is how much mid
1:16 Journey advanced in a single year
1:18 imagine how good it will be in four
1:20 additional years now this doesn't mean
1:22 that all Architects will lose their jobs
1:24 but it does mean that a single
1:26 experienced architect will soon be able
1:29 to do the work of 10 to 20 people which
1:30 ultimately means that the amount of
1:32 positions available for future
1:34 Architects will decrease significantly
1:36 in 4 years the environment will most
1:38 likely become much more competitive
1:40 where companies lean towards hiring
1:42 people that already have experience so
1:44 if you go to college you are essentially
1:47 making a huge bet usually a 4-year bet
1:49 that cost tens of thousands of dollars
1:51 that this career path will still be in
1:53 high demand by the time you graduate
1:55 this is not as safe of a path as you
1:57 think it is if it only took you one or
1:59 two years I would say that's okay it's
2:02 not that risky but 4 years that is a lot
2:03 of time and this is even worse if you
2:05 are still in high school and watching
2:08 this video if you are 6 to 8 years away
2:10 from getting the degree you want forget
2:12 about it the world will look vastly
2:15 different in 8 years in order to survive
2:17 in this new world you need to stay
2:19 flexible and make small calculated bets
2:22 not large fouryear bets just because
2:24 Society tells you it's the best move
2:27 it's a far safer bet to invest your time
2:29 on Career paths that allow you to start
2:31 making money in just a few months which
2:33 is why I made a video on the top five
2:35 remote careers available on the market
2:36 today these are careers that require
2:39 only 3 to 6 months of study before being
2:40 able to land a job these careers are
2:42 high paying with large room to grow with
2:44 the additional benefit of being remote
2:46 jobs which allow you to have the freedom
2:49 to travel or work at home I will link to
2:51 that video in the description box below
2:52 the second and third type of risk are
2:55 salary risk and opportunity cost salary
2:57 risk is the assumption that you will
2:58 make more than people who don't have a
3:01 4-year degree an opportunity cost is
3:03 basically how much you are potentially
3:06 missing out on by making a certain bet
3:08 in order to best illustrate these two
3:10 risks let me lay out four possible paths
3:13 you can take notes I'm basing salary
3:14 estimations off of what glass store
3:17 reports the first path is your typical
3:19 four-year college to get a degree the
3:21 average tuition for public colleges is
3:24 $9,000 per year so that's a total of
3:26 $36,000 the average college graduate
3:28 with an entry-level job gets paid around
3:30 $60,000 let assume you get hired
3:32 immediately after graduating 5 years
3:35 from now you will have made $60,000
3:38 minus $36,000 which is
3:40 $24,000 the second path is to go to a
3:42 trade school this usually takes a year
3:45 and cost about $10,000 in total after
3:46 which you continue your study under a
3:49 paid apprenticeship which pays roughly
3:51 $60,000 per year for this thought
3:52 experiment we're going to assume
3:54 salaries don't increase just to make the
3:56 math easier 5 years down the line You'll
4:00 have made $660,000 * 3 - $10,000
4:02 which is equal to
4:05 $170,000 the third path is to take a
4:07 coding boot camp which is becoming
4:09 extremely popular these days it can be
4:10 done in about 6 months and cost about
4:12 $10,000 the average pay for an
4:15 entry-level programmer is about $60,000
4:16 so 5 years down the line you will have
4:20 made 60,000 * 3.5 - 10,000 which is
4:21 equal to
4:24 $200,000 and finally the fourth path is
4:26 the non-coding boot camps which I cover
4:28 in my video about the top five remote
4:30 jobs this includes digital marketing it
4:33 uiux customer success and Tech sales
4:35 these boot camps only cost $500 and can
4:37 be completed in roughly 3 to 6 months
4:39 the average pay for these jobs entry
4:42 level is about $660,000 so 5 years down
4:45 the line you will have made 60,000 * 3.5
4:47 minus 500 which is
4:50 $29,500 so as you can see having a
4:52 4-year degree does not actually
4:53 guarantee that you'll make more than the
4:56 other three paths in fact all it does
4:57 guarantee is that you will have missed
4:59 out on making hundreds of thousands of
5:00 dollars and also missed out on years of
5:02 experience people who take the other
5:03 paths will have years of experience
5:05 under their belt which means their
5:07 salaries will actually be much higher
5:09 than what I Illustrated in this thought
5:11 experiment now if they were to invest
5:13 the money they made they would be far
5:15 far ahead of you by the time you earned
5:18 your first dollar this is what I mean by
5:20 opportunity cost if you want to make
5:22 money ASAP so that you can start
5:23 investing for your retirement check out
5:25 my video on the top five remote careers
5:27 available on the market today these are
5:29 careers that require only 3 to 6 months
5:31 of study before being able to land a job
5:32 these careers are high paying with large
5:34 room to grow with the additional benefit
5:36 of being remote jobs which allows you to
5:38 have the freedom to travel or work at
5:40 home I will link to that video in the
5:42 description box below I hope you found
5:44 this video helpful besides that stay tuned
