0:03 so let's break this down for those of
0:05 you that don't know the rail line so rel
0:07 makes good subwoofers they're a
0:08 subwoofer company that's what they focus
0:10 on i think most of you guys know that by now
0:11 now
0:14 now there was the ti series now replaced
0:16 by the tx series now there's the s
0:18 series now the s series is the more
0:21 expensive higher end
0:23 subwoofers from realm so why is that
0:24 relevant to this story well it's
0:27 relevant to the story of how the tx was made
0:28 made
0:29 according to rel
0:31 improving the ti series which was
0:33 already a very good subwoofer and i
0:36 reviewed it it was indeed very good was
0:37 almost impossible improving it seemed
0:40 almost impossible until this started you
0:42 know kind of referencing it more to the
0:44 s series and trickling it down from the
0:46 s series so to them
0:48 the tx the new tx series is not an
0:51 improvement from the ti series but more
0:53 of a baby
0:56 s series and if you see it that way
0:58 these double firsts
1:03 that's what i'm talking about wait
1:04 wait
1:08 okay now from the beginning [Music]
1:21 [Music] [Applause]
1:23 [Applause] [Music]
1:36 so let's start with what changed from
1:39 the ti series to the tx series
1:42 physically now here you have a bunch of
1:44 the tx series including the t5x right there
1:46 there but
1:47 but
1:49 the main thing is that the cabinet size
1:52 increased so the cabinet size increased
1:55 by about five to seven percent in person
1:57 it is a bit more deeper
2:00 and a little bit shorter and that is
2:02 more pleasing at least to me in terms of
2:03 the aesthetics
2:05 now another thing that changed was you
2:08 can't just change the cabinet volume and
2:11 then leave the drivers as it is they had
2:14 to redesign the driver based on the new
2:16 cabinet so they did that
2:19 and rails drivers are fantastic
2:22 they are paper designed pulp design very
2:24 light so they are able to travel really
2:27 fast and giving you really that fast and
2:29 lightening base but of course they made
2:30 sure that it's stiff enough with their
2:33 dust cap and the surrounds have gotten
2:36 bigger from the ti series to withstand
2:38 that more dynamic capability and the
2:41 increase in the cabinet size so that's
2:43 nice to see and the drivers being on par
2:45 with the newer cabinet design
2:47 now two more things before we move on
2:49 the first is the curvature of the subwoofer
2:50 subwoofer
2:52 and this has little
2:54 nice you know elegant curvature to the
2:57 cabinet now aesthetically is more
2:59 pleasing to me for sure
3:00 rather than the flat ones that we had on
3:04 the ti series but this also has a sonic
3:06 benefit according to rel it helps to
3:08 fight the resonance build up along the
3:11 corners especially
3:12 along those corners apparently is where
3:16 you know resonance can build up more and
3:17 having that curvature allows it to
3:19 dissipate it yeah and have that
3:21 resonance build up less so that's
3:23 interesting to see as well second thing
3:25 is the aluminum feet the aluminum feed
3:27 is extremely nice
3:30 it's big and you know big block of
3:32 aluminum and i do have to say it it
3:35 looks really nice and it has a really
3:37 nice touch to it now other than the fact
3:40 that it has rails all over it um and
3:42 we've seen this before as with rail
3:44 subwoofers as well it's all over it and
3:46 people have mixed opinions about
3:49 you know how much it just shouts it's a
3:51 rel subwoofer has well on the top you
3:53 know on the bottom on the feet
3:54 everywhere but i kind of like that
3:57 myself i've gotten to like it more than
3:59 i initially did because when you have
4:00 well you want to kind of show it off i
4:02 mean you're spending this much money on
4:05 a subwoofer and talking about price the
4:07 price did increase with all these
4:10 upgrades by 30 give or take and i do
4:12 have to say that you know with all these
4:14 upgrades i think that kind of price
4:17 increase is warranted and i am
4:19 personally personally surprised that the
4:22 price didn't increase more considering
4:24 the fact that you know these are
4:26 upgrades that are pretty significant in
4:28 terms of the cabinet size and the new
4:31 driver design it takes a lot of r d in
4:34 my opinion i think the price is right now
4:35 now
4:37 however the power amplifier did not
4:40 change the power amplifier they liked it
4:42 they didn't think the need to change it
4:44 so they kept it the same so the only
4:46 changes are well not the only changes i
4:48 should say but the changes are the
4:52 cabinets and the new aluminum feet and
4:54 basically the drivers
4:58 so here we have the rel t5x
5:02 instead of the t7x because the t7x is
5:04 heavy and it breaks my back
5:05 it's just a little bit lighter on my
5:07 back here but the control system is
5:11 really nicely the exactly the same ones
5:13 on both so the explanation should be
5:15 exactly the same
5:17 now a few things to go over so here we
5:18 have the
5:21 volume adjustment from high
5:22 to low
5:25 and i usually set this to 50 and that's
5:27 how i started and i just add a little
5:29 bit or decrease a little bit depending
5:30 on my needs
5:32 the crossover point is all the way from
5:35 30 hertz all the way up to 120 hertz
5:37 which is really nice flexibility right there
5:39 there
5:41 now when you cross over to other speakers
5:42 speakers
5:44 i have a lot of speakers here and
5:46 basically you're crossing it over with
5:50 the base driver of any of these speakers
5:51 and usually these base you know these
5:55 speakers starts to roll off around
5:58 depending on the speakers 60 hertz 50
6:00 hertz some 80 hertz it really depends on
6:03 the speaker so what you want to find
6:04 from your manufacturer your speaker
6:08 manufacturer or through graphs or sort
6:10 you want to find out essentially the
6:13 rolling off the start start point of the roll-off
6:14 roll-off
6:16 and then you want to start there so for
6:19 instance let's say this beautiful quads
6:22 starts to roll off around 80 hertz not
6:23 saying it does just you know
6:25 hypothetically um
6:27 then we want to set the
6:29 crossover point to somewhere around 80
6:32 hertz and then you know kind of increase
6:34 or decrease it to blend in
6:38 seamlessly as much as possible
6:40 and you do that by ear with tracks that
6:42 you know very well a track that i like
6:45 to use a lot is actually you know bass i
6:48 love you and also hot spade these are my
6:51 reference tracks for matching subwoofers
6:53 and then here we have of course the low
6:54 level input
6:58 and then the high level input and lfe
7:00 now these two are something that you see
7:02 on other subwoofers as well but this is
7:05 a little bit unique this is a little bit
7:09 unique and what this is is called high
7:11 level input and this is something that
7:15 is unique to rail subwoofers and you may
7:17 see it in other subwoofers as well but
7:19 rel does this best and this is their
7:22 signature move with their subwoofers
7:24 so essentially with these kind of
7:26 connections you get this cable that
7:27 comes with it
7:30 and it's a speak on connection
7:32 essentially that connects to
7:35 this end
7:38 like so hard to do it with one hand but
7:41 it connects like so and the other end is
7:44 actually just bare wires and these three
7:46 three cables right here
7:48 would connect to your amplifier or
7:50 integrated unit
7:53 this just basically takes a signal
7:55 and feeds it to the subwoofer so that it
7:59 takes on the entire system's tonality
8:01 and sound characteristics which is
8:03 really nice and helps with blending with
8:06 your speakers and your system overall so
8:09 this is highly suggested for music
8:11 lovers and music you know systems now
8:13 you may be wondering how do i connect
8:15 the other end and i can show you some
8:17 examples but that would be kind of
8:19 pointless because it really depends on
8:21 the amplifier type you have
8:24 so i will link to some of the videos rel
8:26 made themselves explaining how to make
8:28 that connection depending on which
8:30 amplifier you have and also if you're
8:32 still unsure then you can reach out to
8:34 them and they'll explain it to you
8:37 themselves and also you may be asking
8:39 what's so special about rel's high level
8:41 connection compared to you know other
8:43 subwoofers that have high level
8:45 connection well
8:46 the thing is that with high level
8:49 connection they use filters and every
8:51 subwoofer does have filters and there's
8:54 always a delay but rel has managed to
8:58 get the filter um delay as low as
9:00 possible to a point where it really
9:02 doesn't matter anymore to a lot of
9:05 listeners so that's why a lot of people
9:07 find realizable first be fast musical
9:09 and really blend in well with their
9:11 systems when they're using the high
9:13 level connection compared to other high
9:15 levels in the market so it's just a
9:18 higher quality connection
9:20 with subwoofers for music purposes so
9:22 tujan's here from his work because he
9:24 just bought the hegel h120 and he is
9:26 desperate to pick it up so i kind of
9:29 wanted his opinion of the royal t7x
9:32 because he heard the original t5i uh
9:34 when i reviewed it way back and he also
9:36 heard the t7x so let's see what he
9:39 thinks did you think um you know what so
9:41 i actually used the t7x for like two
9:43 months when i had it
9:44 and it's like a completely different
9:47 beast compared to the t5i
9:51 it's more my type of sub it has better
9:54 extension and it has grunt
9:56 that you know rail subs are fast right
9:58 they pull up details in the base region
10:01 that some subs just can't resolve
10:04 but the t7x you know has that speed of
10:07 the t5i but the grunt it almost
10:10 trespasses to like what you would see in
10:12 like a home theater sub without any of
10:13 the caveats
10:15 so honestly like when i was listening to
10:18 music with it it was just fantastic like
10:21 it it checks off all the boxes i would
10:23 want for it like a dedicated music
10:25 listening sub
10:28 okay so let's get to the nitty gritty of
10:29 my opinions here so
10:31 with real subwoofers i am definitely
10:35 impressed with the tx series it is a
10:37 improvement from the ti series like i mentioned
10:38 mentioned
10:40 um and even before this video a lot of
10:42 people reached out to me including my
10:44 patreons and asked me i bought the ti
10:47 series should i upgrade to the tx series
10:49 if you and i like my advice is always
10:52 the same if you can do so
10:54 um you know through trade-in or whatever
10:57 possible with your dealer or whatnot
11:00 but like i said the ti series is
11:03 honestly a great subwoofer and if you're
11:05 talking about value this is you know
11:08 about 30 more expensive right
11:11 i don't think the sound itself is 30
11:13 better because already like i said the
11:15 ti series were incredible subwoofers
11:17 incredible value
11:19 um i think the sound is maybe
11:21 15 20
11:24 and the rest 10 or 15 would be
11:25 on the rest of the upgrade you know
11:27 aesthetics do matter and
11:29 and
11:32 the feet and so on do matter and another
11:34 thing that i found was that the for some
11:36 reason the tx series actually seems to
11:39 be um easier to integrate into the
11:41 system now the ti series don't get me
11:44 wrong was easy as hell too but the tx
11:46 series is way more uh easier i just
11:50 found it i i've i've had like six or
11:52 around actually eight pairs of speakers
11:56 um mashed up with the t5x and the dual
12:00 t7x and at no time did i feel like it
12:02 was hard to integrate or make it
12:05 seamless it was all seamless and it was
12:08 very easy to integrate into the you know
12:11 space i have um
12:13 very thunderous like trujin said very
12:17 thunderous very fast uh very grippy and
12:20 grunt the grunt is just incredible with
12:24 the subwoofer even more so than the ti
12:26 but again depending on preference maybe
12:28 you may not like that much grunt uh
12:31 tujian likes a lot of grunt now for my
12:33 liking aha
12:35 even though i'm not a guy who likes a
12:38 lot of grunt it was a very tasteful
12:40 grunt even though the mount was a lot it
12:43 was very easy and you know easy going
12:45 and it's not a nasty kind of you know
12:49 bloated base it was a lot of uh you know
12:51 presence now another thing that i want
12:52 to know is again the high level
12:54 connection is partially why you know
12:56 rail subwoofers are so musical and
12:59 that's why i'm a fanboy and i would
13:01 admit i'm i am i'm i'm a total fanboy
13:04 when it comes to rail subwoofers because
13:06 that's what i use um that's what i find
13:08 musical and
13:10 you know i think high level is just
13:12 genius especially when it's as high
13:16 quality as it's with rel subwoofers
13:19 and you know it's genius because you
13:21 don't need pre-outs or
13:24 from your integrated amplifiers or
13:26 extra pre-outs from your preamp you
13:28 don't need any of that
13:29 you can just connect it to the binding
13:32 post on you know your integrated units as
13:33 as
13:35 you would with speakers because these
13:38 are speaker cables
13:39 and if you don't know how to do that
13:41 again i'll link in the description below
13:42 how to do that
13:44 but you don't need anything else you can
13:46 just integrate this system
13:48 very easily and it's one of my opinion
13:51 the easiest way to integrate a subwoofer
13:54 into any music system
13:56 yet it sounds the best so
13:58 it's a win-win there for me now some of
14:00 you actually have reached out to me and
14:02 asked me jay i don't see myself buying a
14:05 subwoofer even though you know i get a
14:07 little bit more extension in the base region
14:08 region
14:10 why would i buy a subwoofer and and
14:12 that's the misconception a lot of people
14:14 have even though i keep telling them
14:16 you know when you buy a subwoofer yes
14:17 you're getting it for a more base
14:20 extension and that's the primary reason
14:23 but when you allow the base extension to
14:24 go lower you have to understand you're
14:27 manipulating the rest of the frequencies
14:29 as well so your mid-range will get
14:31 fuller as well and your
14:33 high frequency will become smoother and
14:34 that's the
14:36 experience i've had with
14:39 almost every single time actually i
14:41 wouldn't say almost every single time
14:43 the high frequency becomes smoother and
14:46 the mid-range becomes fuller so that's something
14:47 something
14:49 you know you get when you get a
14:51 subwoofer you don't you don't just get
14:53 more bass it's
14:57 it becomes an entire frequency response
14:59 augmentation so
15:00 it's not just the
15:02 the
15:03 low frequencies that you get when you
15:05 get a quality subwoofer
15:07 so that's has a lot to do with when we
15:09 call a you know a subwoofer musical it's
15:12 not just about the base and we're not
15:14 just describing the grunt and how low it
15:17 goes because let's face it there are
15:19 subwoofers out there these days with dsp
15:21 and so on that can go lower than the rel
15:25 t5x or the t7x and that's fine
15:27 those have their purpose in the home
15:29 theater market and i believe rail makes
15:33 the ht series which is based for
15:35 home theater market but home theater is
15:37 entirely different story home theaters
15:40 actually have passages where going down
15:44 to five you know uh five hertz
15:46 20 hertz 10 hertz you know low as you
15:48 can get rumble the room you know as loud
15:51 as possible let's go tujin um that's
15:52 what they want
15:54 that's what tujin wants for his home theater
15:55 theater
15:57 but for music
15:59 what what what instrument plays down to
16:01 20 hertz like
16:03 a pipe organ that's it but who listens
16:06 to pipe organ i'm not judging
16:08 but i don't and most of the music i
16:11 listen to don't and i'm assuming that
16:12 you don't as well
16:15 so for most of us that listens to
16:18 non-pipe organ music then you know 30 hertz
16:19 hertz
16:21 is good enough and with room gain that's
16:23 exactly what you get with these raw
16:26 subwoofers you know good 40 30 hertz
16:28 that's a full range as far as i'm
16:30 concerned when it comes to music
16:32 and you know
16:34 it does it with such musicality grip
16:38 punch and you know dynamic capability
16:40 that i would recommend
16:43 no other subwoofer really for music
16:45 purposes and i have and that may change
16:47 don't get me wrong if i come across
16:51 another brand or a subwoofer that sounds
16:53 better i would say so i'll be the first
16:56 to say so and make the switch until rel
16:58 makes a better one but
17:00 but
17:02 from time and time again well has made
17:04 subwoofers that makes musical subwoofers
17:06 and i still stand by them and i still
17:08 think these are great level first and
17:10 i'm not i'm not saying that as just just
17:12 a sellout rail hasn't by the way pay me
17:15 anything for this review or anything of
17:17 that sort and i'm coming across lz every
17:20 time every time i do a rel review uh
17:22 people tell me i've come across zlz i
17:24 have not received anything for this
17:28 review or you know financially or
17:30 anything like that um all the rest of
17:31 the verse i've received for this review
17:34 will be returned except for the t5x
17:36 because it's being given away
17:39 right now to you guys so all you have to
17:41 do is subscribe to us and comment down
17:43 below um
17:45 how you would or what speaker you would
17:48 pair your t5x to and uh you'll be
17:50 entered and of course click the like to
17:53 this video although this all the
17:55 uh details will be in the description so
17:56 anyways that's pretty much it from us
17:58 thank you for watching and i'll see you
18:01 guys on the next one [Music]
