0:24 hive Tyrant today I'm pleased to present
0:27 the third of a series of videos in which
0:30 I'll be reviewing each Warlord of our
0:33 first cycle of War packs the warlord
0:36 cycle as well as their Associated
0:39 signature Squad all within the context
0:41 of the card pool available when those
0:45 cards relevant expansion was first
0:47 released considering that each warlord
0:50 has a unique play style which dictates
0:52 how their surrounding deck is built and
0:55 subsequently played by covering Warlords
0:58 and War packs separately hopefully all
1:01 of these videos will relevant and useful
1:04 to both new and veteran players alike
1:08 for as long as possible each new future
1:10 expansion should simply build upon and
1:13 complement the foundation laid out by
1:16 each previous publication and its
1:19 Associated cards however considering
1:21 that at the time of this recording we've
1:24 seen the release of our entire warlord
1:26 cycle and The Great Devourer Deluxe
1:29 expansion I will have the benefit of
1:32 some foresight when it comes to
1:35 assessing the utility and evolution of
1:38 each of these cards so in this specific
1:40 video I'll be taking a look at the
1:44 second TOA faction warlord on shei and
1:46 focusing on the strengths and weaknesses
1:49 of not only that warlord unit but also
1:51 each of the different cards which
1:55 constitute his signature Squad and soon
1:57 I'll analyze and assess all of the
2:00 non-signature faction specific C cards
2:02 introduced in the gift of the ethereals
2:05 war pack itself in doing so this should
2:08 result in a relatively short warlord
2:11 Centric video as well as a much longer
2:15 War pack encompassing production but
2:18 with that said on to today's warlord on
2:21 shei he is a unique warlord unit with a
2:24 starting hand size of seven seven
2:26 starting resource tokens an attack value
2:29 of two and a pool of seven hit points he
2:32 has the soldier and ethereal traits and
2:35 reads each tow faction unit you control
2:39 at this planet gains armor Bane forced
2:42 reaction after this warlord resolves its
2:46 attack move it to your HQ but once
2:49 bloodied Oni is instantly transformed
2:52 into an extraordinarily vulnerable one
2:56 attack value 5 HP unit with no ability or
2:57 or
3:01 reaction so on shei is a rather unique
3:03 warlord who offers a radically different
3:06 play style relative to Commander Shadow
3:09 Sun whereas our shasso warlord is all
3:12 about augmenting existing units with a
3:16 wide range of attachments Oni is instead
3:19 an extraordinarily lethal hit and run
3:23 style Skirmish unit so although Ani has
3:25 the potential to be an incredibly
3:28 dangerous warlord generally considered
3:30 by the community to be one of the best
3:33 when it comes to the ability to outright
3:36 assassinate or destroy the enemy warlord
3:39 he also has a significant number of
3:40 relatively unique
3:43 weaknesses but before assessing his
3:47 Global buff ability let's first stop to
3:50 consider Ani as a unit you commit him to
3:53 a planet during the command phase as you
3:56 would any other warlord but as soon as
3:58 his attack is resolved during combat
4:02 he's returned to your HQ so if you have
4:04 initiative at a planet and he's your
4:06 only present unit you have the
4:09 opportunity to attack will likely deal
4:12 some damage and then he immediately
4:15 moves to your HQ often taking no damage
4:17 in return because by the time your
4:20 opponent has an opportunity to take
4:22 their own combat turn he's no longer
4:25 present at that planet as an eligible
4:29 Target to be attacked so in some situ
4:32 situations that forced reaction seems
4:34 much better than having to spend an
4:36 actual combat turn of your own to
4:39 retreat because instead of just spending
4:41 an entire action to return your warlord
4:45 to HQ you're doing up to two damage in
4:48 the process and then doing so
4:50 automatically but considering that pool
4:52 of seven hit points and that each and
4:55 every one of Ani's attacks is itself
4:58 armor Bane you probably want Ani hanging
5:01 around for mult multiple combat rounds
5:04 especially if you have Shield cards so
5:06 you can prevent him from being bloodied
5:10 but with Oni you simply aren't afforded
5:12 any choice in the matter and further
5:14 that forced reaction seems even worse
5:16 when you stop to consider that if you
5:19 don't have any other units present at a
5:22 planet even if a battle took place there
5:25 you cannot actually capture that planet
5:27 and you cannot trigger its battle
5:31 ability so for inance if you send Ani to
5:33 Taurus and use him to kill an opponent's
5:36 Rogue traitor or void pirate the instant
5:38 you resolve your warlord's armor Bane
5:41 attack even if it destroys the only
5:44 present enemy unit he immediately
5:47 returns to your HQ and if neither player
5:49 has any units remaining at the end of a
5:51 battle then technically neither player
5:54 has won and therefore no one can trigger
5:58 the battle ability so in some sense that
6:00 Skirmish style hit and run type of
6:03 attack can be beneficial but often it
6:06 can prove to be rather frustrating as
6:09 the player piloting on shei still as no
6:12 individual warlord wins games alone
6:15 let's consider what cards synergize well
6:17 with oni's reaction and start with
6:20 homing Beacon a one cost limited support
6:22 which happens to trigger when you move a
6:27 unit to your HQ so whenever Ani is
6:29 forced to exit a battle you can exhaust
6:31 cost that non-unique support to either
6:35 draw one card or Draw one resource and
6:37 considering that effect is a reaction
6:39 which will likely occur in the middle of
6:42 combat it's entirely possible that
6:44 thanks to that support you could
6:46 suddenly possess either the additional
6:48 resource needed to pay for some
6:51 beneficial card Effect or if you don't
6:53 already have what you need in hand you
6:56 could otherwise pull the card you want
6:59 from the top of your deck but more
7:01 important ly and in our most recently
7:05 examined War pack we saw caon strike a
7:08 one cost event which allows Ani and any
7:11 other extent ethereal trait units to
7:13 engage in a sudden deadly Precision
7:16 strike as a Combat Action you simply
7:19 move as many ethereals as you'd like
7:22 from any number of planets Andor your HQ
7:26 to a Target Planet so under ideal
7:28 circumstances you could have Ani fight
7:31 at a planet and even if he at some point
7:34 attacks and returns to your HQ so long
7:37 as you do have one or more units present
7:40 at that planet at the end of combat you
7:43 can trigger its battle ability then once
7:45 battle concludes you can play cowon
7:48 strike and likely take your opponent
7:51 entirely by surprise As you move on shei
7:54 and any number of other ethereals to any
7:58 Planet further down the line in doing so
8:00 you can force a Battle to take place
8:01 that your opponent perhaps wasn't
8:04 expecting and as a result you could have
8:07 the opportunity in one round to snipe
8:10 multiple command units or perhaps
8:12 otherwise assassinate powerful albeit
8:16 temporarily vulnerable Army units but
8:18 even better you may even have the
8:21 opportunity to bloody or outright kill
8:24 the enemy warlord especially if you can
8:27 use either initiative or rang keyword
8:30 units to ensure you're the first to
8:33 attack plus once the battle at that new
8:35 planet concludes if you're again left
8:38 with at least one unit at that planet
8:40 you could have the opportunity to
8:42 trigger another battle ability one which
8:45 your opponent may have been entirely
8:47 unexpecting and considering that you can
8:50 play multiple copies of kaon strike
8:53 during the very same game around each
8:55 and every additional unanticipated
8:58 battle you can elicit could potentially
9:01 spell out disaster and ruinous defeat
9:03 for your opponent allowing you the
9:06 opportunity to hit hard where the enemy
9:07 is at their utmost
9:10 vulnerable if based on where Warlords
9:12 were sent during the command phase your
9:14 opponent was perhaps expecting a battle
9:18 at Planet 1 and three for instance to
9:20 their surprise you could use caon strike
9:23 to trigger a battle at Planet number two
9:24 which could result in something like
9:26 your triggering the battle ability of
9:29 the planet Fen in order to Route their
9:32 most powerful unit at Planet 3 and by
9:35 engaging in such duplicitous Behavior
9:38 it's easy for Ani to alter the expected
9:41 trajectory of a game
9:44 significantly but before we move on to
9:46 address the second most Salient aspect
9:49 of ani I'll just mention that in the
9:52 fifth War pack of the warlord cycle he
9:55 receives the backup of a TOA support
9:57 that many players consider to be perhaps
10:01 the most unbalanced card in the game and
10:03 though I won't cover it in exhaustive
10:06 detail until a future video suffice it
10:09 to say that as a Combat Action it
10:12 exhausts to move a single ethereal unit
10:16 from your HQ to any Target planet and
10:20 then readies that unit so if you liked
10:22 caon strike and its multiple battle
10:25 triggering potential then you're going
10:28 to love what ani receives in the threat Beyond
10:30 Beyond
10:32 but with his forced reaction now
10:36 extensively covered onto his primary
10:38 appeal the fact that he gives each tow
10:41 unit present at his Planet the armor
10:44 Bane keyword himself
10:48 included so this affords him a rather
10:51 unique opportunity each time a to unit
10:54 at the same Planet as Ani attacks the
10:56 opponent is disallowed the choice of
10:59 discarding Shield cards except for
11:02 special circumstances enemy units simply
11:05 suffer exactly as much damage as you can
11:08 bring points of attack value to Bear
11:10 against them which serves to make midc
11:12 combat math and consideration of
11:16 probability extremely simple for on shei
11:19 for instance as you won't have to worry
11:21 about the possibility of your opponent
11:25 using a 1 two or three icon Shield card
11:27 if an enemy unit has only one hit point
11:30 remaining then you need only use a one
11:33 attack value tow unit in order to score
11:37 a successful kill do remember however
11:39 that any card Effect which outright
11:42 prevents an attack such as indomitable
11:45 will still do so and that any effect
11:48 which serves to prevent damage such as
11:50 the reaction of a ready blood angels
11:54 veterans also remains effective so
11:56 therefore it's critical to always bear
11:58 in mind that armor Bane has a rather
12:02 strict defined effect while a unit with
12:05 the armor Bane keyword is attacking
12:09 Shield cards cannot be used but just
12:12 like this keyword can on occasion seem
12:14 little different from a conventional
12:17 attack there are also several instances
12:20 in which this can be enormously
12:22 advantageous for example if an orc
12:25 opponent uses custom field generator to
12:27 prevent the damage from your armor Bane
12:31 attack any reassign find now indirect
12:33 damage dealt to other orc units they
12:38 control canot be mitigated by Shields
12:41 and also if a tow unit at on she's
12:44 Planet uses area effect that damage
12:47 albeit technically being dealt by a card
12:50 Effect is still being inflicted while
12:53 the unit with area effect is considered
12:56 to be attacking which means that area
12:59 effect damage is also entirely
13:03 unshield so it's precisely that ability
13:06 which makes cheap units so powerful
13:09 alongside Oni although any tow unit can
13:12 do essentially guaranteed damage ranged
13:15 keyword units such as the VR law
13:18 marksmen immediately serve to become
13:20 incredibly deadly because with those
13:23 units specifically they allow you to
13:26 attack with armor Bane during the ranged
13:29 Skirmish Round And if an attack value of
13:32 one is insufficient to kill whatever you
13:35 want to an ion rifle instantly
13:38 transforms that one cost tow Army into a
13:42 four attack ranged and armor Bane unit
13:45 or if you're instead fighting a swarm of
13:48 opponents consider a fixing a copy of
13:50 gun drones to any tow unit present
13:54 alongside on shei and if you do so to a
13:57 ranged units or if you simply possess
13:59 the initiative token you can potten
14:02 ually clear out an entire Army in only a
14:05 single volley and considering you can
14:08 attach multiple copies of gun drones to
14:10 the same unit which admittedly is a
14:14 calculated risk the devastation that Ani
14:17 could potentially bestow upon an
14:19 opponent is incredible and keep in mind
14:22 that you could also use Ambush platform
14:25 or even the odds to surprise your
14:28 opponent by altering the math of combat
14:31 significantly at the last possible
14:34 moment and any unexpected volley from
14:37 gun drones especially when armor Bane is
14:41 incredibly nasty indeed so long as you
14:43 happen to have even a single eligible
14:46 tow unit you could easily use any number
14:49 of devious means to lure your opponent
14:52 directly into a false sense of security
14:54 and trap for instance you could
14:57 opportunistically relocate the mobile
15:00 vasia Trailblazer to a planet where you
15:03 have initiative only to deploy and
15:05 subsequently trigger a gun drones
15:09 granted area effect two volley courtesy
15:12 of Ambush platform or you could simply
15:15 transform a zero attack one hit point
15:18 copy of Recon drones abruptly into an
15:21 entirely unexpected Menace possibly with
15:23 the potential of eliminating your
15:26 opponent's entire Army
15:28 outright I think another incredible
15:31 combo with on she is the Ethereal unit
15:35 on WE prelate for the not insignificant
15:38 cost of four you Ambush a four attack
15:41 unit into play Not only does every other
15:43 tow unit present at that planet gain
15:45 plus one attack until the end of the
15:47 phase in addition to the armor Bane
15:50 keyword conferred by on shei but if you
15:53 then use Ambush platform to equip the
15:56 pret with an ion rifle then in the space
15:58 of two actions you can go from having
16:01 what have been only your warlord at a
16:03 planet to suddenly possessing a seven
16:06 attack armor Bane unit and an attack
16:09 value of that magnitude is sufficiently
16:11 high as to threaten to outright bloody
16:14 or easily kill any warlord printed thus
16:18 far with scarcely few exceptions such as
16:20 a fully hail Ragnar black man wielding
16:24 an activated Frost Fang and plus
16:26 considering that the pelet bounces back
16:29 to your HQ after resolving its own
16:32 attack a consistent theme we see across
16:34 all existing ethereals it's yet another
16:37 unit that works fantastic in conjunction
16:40 with kaon strike and our aformentioned
16:44 upcoming support but despite the Allure
16:46 of an opponent being entirely unable to
16:49 Shield do stop to consider that by being
16:52 unable to discard Shield cards your
16:54 enemy will essentially be left with no
16:57 choice or other option but to deploy all
16:59 their attachments and use all of their
17:02 events for their intended effect because
17:05 for better or worse if you can't present
17:07 your opponent with the occasional
17:09 difficult decision that may well
17:10 necessitate they use something like a
17:13 drop pot of salt as a shield then rest
17:15 assured they'll be using each and every
17:19 copy of that and similar extraordinarily
17:21 powerful events and detachments instead
17:25 against you during the ideal opportunity
17:29 to do so so for all those reasons and
17:32 more Ani is a fascinating warlord he
17:34 struggles somewhat against units with
17:38 large pools of HP such as the enemy
17:40 warlord and in some situations can
17:43 flounder in regard to activating early
17:46 game battle abilities but with the right
17:48 combination of card effects behind him
17:51 he can prove to be enormously dangerous
17:54 and once he starts to procure some of
17:57 his requisite tools truly excels at
17:59 punishing opponents whom dare to leave
18:01 themselves at all
18:05 exposed but after talking all topics on
18:08 shei let's finally move on to his
18:11 signature Squad and first up we see the
18:15 Ethereal Envoy a one cost army unit with
18:18 one command icon an attack value of one
18:20 and a pool of three hit points it has
18:23 the soldier and ethereal traits and the
18:25 familiar forced reaction after this unit
18:30 resolves its attack move it to your AG Q
18:32 so for the cost of one this is an
18:36 incredibly resilient unit 3 HP means
18:39 it's extremely unlikely to be sniped by
18:41 an enemy warlord when sitting at a
18:44 planet alone to win you command but by
18:47 disappearing to your HQ after its attack
18:50 it's subject to all the same mixed
18:52 blessings as Ani
18:54 himself sometimes that could be
18:56 frustrating if you'd like them to stick
18:59 around for a prolonged combat but
19:01 perhaps if you've affixed a valuable
19:03 attachment to them they can fire their
19:06 ion rifle or unleash a gun drone's area
19:09 effect to assault and then once they've
19:11 managed to wreak havoc on your enemy
19:14 they immediately move to your HQ prior
19:16 to your opponent's opportunity to
19:19 destroy them in return and if you'd like
19:21 if you want to take advantage of that
19:23 same attachment again once it's time for
19:26 your combat turn you could use an even
19:28 the odds to shift their attachment onto
19:32 a unit not in your HQ and fully ready in
19:34 order to launch yet another armor Bane
19:38 attack and as on she unlike Commander
19:42 Shadow Sun can not recur attachments
19:44 this unit provides a potentially
19:47 invaluable opportunity to preserve some
19:50 of your most valuable assets so while
19:53 towel players are by no means of a dir
19:56 of appealing one command 1 HP units like
19:59 the ranged VOR law mark and the
20:01 attachment retrieving Earth cast
20:04 technician the Ethereal Envoy certainly
20:07 has its own appeal plus it's yet another
20:09 ethereal unit which means it can be
20:13 relocated by caon strike and potentially
20:16 trigger homing Beacon so there's
20:18 certainly a lot to like about this unit
20:21 and at that price even if not involved
20:24 in combat whether through its lowcost
20:26 curve or simply its readily affordable
20:29 command icons the ethereal envoy can
20:33 easily help establish an impeccable Oni
20:36 economy still with our signature army
20:40 unit now out of the way next on to oni's
20:44 attachment the honor blade for a cost of
20:46 one it has three Shield icons as well as
20:49 the War gear and weapon traits it reads
20:52 attached to an ethereal unit attached
20:54 unit gains each other tow unit you
20:57 control at this planet gets plus one
21:00 attack so although this could
21:03 theoretically be a fixed to any ethereal
21:05 it seems almost absurd to adhere it to
21:09 any but Ani for no more than a single
21:12 resource token this allows Oni to confer
21:15 armor Bane and plus one attack to every
21:18 tow unit present at his Planet so the
21:21 more tow units you run in your deck the
21:23 better because neither neutral nor
21:27 Allied faction units benefit from either
21:29 ability Frank
21:30 I can't think of much more than the
21:33 obvious to say about this attachment
21:35 because as a planet-wide effect it can
21:38 buff and unlimited number of units the
21:41 only downside is that once the attached
21:45 ethereal itself attacks it returns to HQ
21:48 and you immediately lose the benefit of
21:50 this attachment but thanks to our AFF
21:53 forementioned caon strike or our
21:56 upcoming the threat Beyond support it's
21:58 entirely possible that even if you are
22:01 forced to remove the attached ethereal
22:03 from Battle you could either return to
22:06 that same planet or else show up at
22:09 another planets armor Bane makes your
22:11 math easy and your opponent's math
22:14 enormously complicated and as this adds
22:16 significant value to every one of your
22:19 units it seems almost inexcusable to use
22:22 as Shields a Recon drones can suddenly
22:25 deal damage and units like the one cost
22:27 Earth cast technician immediately
22:31 threaten an armor Bane 2 and speaking of
22:34 our affir mention technician this is
22:36 certainly an attachment worth digging
22:38 for and considering it's eligible to be
22:41 deployed via Ambush platform the honor
22:43 blade is definitely something which
22:46 could alter combat significantly just
22:49 remember that it only affects tow units
22:53 other than the attached but next we have
22:57 our signature support in on she sanctum
22:59 for a cost of two it has the location
23:03 trait and action exhaust this support to
23:06 ready a Target unit at a planet with one
23:08 or more ethereal units you
23:12 control so with one small restriction
23:14 this affordable support essentially
23:17 allows you to ready a Target unit each
23:19 and every turn it just has to be at the
23:22 same Planet as your warlord or any other
23:26 ethereal unit but considering that once
23:29 Oni attacks he has to leave the planet
23:31 and therefore then no longer confers
23:33 armor Bane to all present tow units you
23:35 generally want to attack with as many
23:38 other units as possible prior to that
23:41 happening and if you can ready an
23:43 exhausted unit only to attack with it
23:45 again then you can potentially get the
23:47 benefit of armor Bane during that
23:51 additional attack prior to Ani vacating
23:53 the planet near the end of the first
23:56 combat round also worth considering is
23:59 that this support can ready any unit
24:02 which includes your warlord and as we
24:04 eventually see a tow event which
24:06 requires you to exhaust your warlord as
24:08 part of its cost using this support to
24:11 enable one or more copies of that event
24:14 with or without attacking beforehand or
24:17 after with your warlord that future use
24:19 for that event is certainly worth
24:22 keeping in the back of your mind but as
24:24 with any free readying effect you always
24:27 want to maximize the value gained by unexhausted
24:28 unexhausted
24:31 a unit so naturally units with
24:33 attachments are often the most desirable
24:35 targets and I think the utmost appealing
24:38 Target for Oni sanctum is likely a
24:41 ranged unit for instance earlier in this
24:44 video I made certain to sing the vorla
24:47 marksman's Praises but if it can attack
24:50 with an ion rifle twice or fire a gun
24:52 drone's eded area effect volley two
24:55 times in a row all during the range
24:57 Skirmish round that only serves to make
25:00 that unit all the better because if your
25:02 opponent doesn't possess any ranged
25:04 keyword units of their own then you can
25:06 keep attacking during the range Skirmish
25:09 round until you do eventually run out of
25:12 ready eligible to attack ranged units
25:14 and considering your ranged attackers
25:16 are hopefully always going to be doing
25:19 so with armor Bane by the time it's your
25:21 opponent's turn to attack hopefully they
25:24 won't have any units left with which to
25:27 do so so a very predictable effect
25:29 intrinsic to this support but again
25:31 thanks to Ambush platform it could
25:34 nevertheless end up surprising your
25:36 opponent still with the advantage of
25:40 surprise or not in any case certainly an
25:44 enormously powerful card still last of
25:47 our signature Squad we see an event
25:50 ethereal wisdom which for a cost of zero
25:53 has one Shield icon the tactic trait and
25:56 action until the end of the phase a
25:59 Target tow unit you control get plus one
26:02 attack and gains the Ethereal trait so
26:05 this unit is a bit of a combo enabler it
26:07 can be used as a rather straightforward
26:10 attack boost which combined with Ani's
26:13 armor Bane Andor the honor blades bonus
26:15 could make all the difference you need
26:18 during a pivotal attack but I think this
26:20 event much better serves when used in
26:23 conjunction with other effects any unit
26:26 which gains ethereal even if only
26:29 temporarily is suddenly eligible for
26:32 being relocated through cowon strike or
26:35 our upcoming the threat Beyond support
26:37 serving is yet another means of taking
26:39 your opponent by surprise and catching
26:42 them entirely off guard if you have a
26:44 potentially very powerful unit sitting
26:47 at a planet you can simply transform it
26:50 into an ethereal and then relocate it
26:52 wherever you'd like it could be
26:54 something you opt to do simply to save
26:56 one of your own units lives perhaps if
26:58 your opponent has initiative
27:00 and is trying to snipe one of your own
27:04 units or perhaps more ideally that combo
27:06 could instead be Unleashed when it's
27:09 your turn to swing during combat you
27:11 simply play this event bestow the
27:14 Ethereal trait to a Target unit move it
27:16 to the desirable Planet at the opportune
27:19 moment and then proceed to wreck your
27:21 opponent you could move something along
27:24 the lines of a boron recruit which
27:26 thanks to this event attack bonus could
27:29 swing for five so long as a warlord is
27:32 present or you could simply move a unit
27:36 with a powerful attachment ideally you'd
27:38 want to move a currently ready unit but
27:42 once Soni sees his upcoming support that
27:44 card's effect not only relocates an
27:47 ethereal albeit necessarily one
27:50 initially located at your HQ but also
27:53 readies it making Oni the absolute
27:55 master of eliciting multiple battles
27:58 during any one given round with that
28:00 upcoming support you could simply push
28:03 the first planet aggressively in the
28:05 battle with one or more units in your HQ
28:07 and then turn one of them into an
28:10 ethereal and teleport them now ready
28:13 back into combat wherever and whenever
28:16 you'd like plus if the situation happens
28:19 to call for it you can also try to pull
28:20 off clever effects like turning a
28:23 piranha Hunter into an ethereal and then
28:27 using cion strike to move it to a Target
28:30 planet which of course triggers its
28:33 reaction and allows you to draw a card
28:35 still whether used in a straightforward
28:38 manner or with the utmost of cunning I'm
28:40 definitely a tremendous fan of the
28:44 trickery enabled by this event but now
28:45 that we've covered the third of our
28:48 warlord cycle Warlords that brings this
28:51 video to a close so I'll just end by
