0:06 hello my name is Dominic Brennan and I'm
0:08 a managing director of Cline wine in
0:10 this video I want to look at unraveling
0:12 some of the mysteries of Fine Wine
0:14 Investments that are most liquid of
0:16 alternative assets fine wine like
0:19 Rolexes and whiskey and vintage cards
0:21 and Fine Art and herma bags and scars
0:24 for example um are part of a subsets of
0:26 investment types called alternative
0:29 assets or passion Investments and I
0:30 believe passionately that fine wine
0:33 offers investors a brilliant opportunity
0:34 in terms of diversifying their
0:36 Investments and creating a balanced
0:38 Diversified portfolio of investment
0:41 Holdings so in this video based on my
0:42 fine wi investment guide which you can
0:44 access here which in which includes a
0:45 lot more information than I can put in
0:48 this video and it's completely free um
0:49 I'm going to try and unravel some of the
0:52 mysteries of investing fine wine and
0:54 suggest some of the benefits of it and
0:56 and things to look out for for a
0:58 balanced portfolio of Fine Wines so
1:03 so a good place to start would be to
1:04 look at some of the benefits of
1:06 investing in fine wine as an asset um
1:08 now a lot more of these benefits and
1:10 lots more information generally is
1:12 available in my fine wi investment guide
1:13 um which you can access for free by
1:15 clicking on the link below the first
1:17 point I think to talk about is capital
1:19 gains tax exemptions lots of Brokers
1:22 will trumpet that uh fine wine as an
1:25 asset is capital gains tax exempt um the
1:26 first most important thing to say is
1:30 always get um proper tax advice um speak
1:32 to your financial advisor about it there
1:35 are obviously huge benefits um if fine
1:37 wine is exempt from capital gains tax
1:39 you're not paying tax on your gains of
1:42 your of your investment um the advice
1:44 given by hmrc is that are wasting assets
1:46 or wasting shutle which fine wine is
1:49 like a racehorse for example is um
1:51 because of the sort of the things that
1:53 can happen to a case you know with corks
1:58 with um storage Providence breakage um
2:00 is anything which has a predictable life
2:02 of up to 50 years now with fine wine
2:04 lots of wines will last slightly longer
2:07 than that many wines won't last 50 years
2:10 so it's a real great area um but I would
2:12 say that a lot of wines are potentially
2:14 applicable for exemptions from capital
2:16 gains tax and that is a good place to
2:20 start two um fine wine is a hedge
2:22 against inflation it's a physical asset
2:25 so unlike investing in stocks and shares
2:27 um you you're actually buying a tangible
2:30 thing you're buying a case of Shadle of
2:32 a case of shatow Margo a case of Krug
2:35 champagne and it has a
2:38 certain value as a tangible asset it
2:42 will always be in demand as Krug lefit
2:43 you know so it's not like a piece of
2:45 paper that can end up being worth
2:48 nothing um and it means in in times of
2:49 inflation as we've seen over the last 18
2:52 months or two years um it's more likely
2:54 to retain the majority of its its value
2:56 which fine wine largely has
2:58 done the third thing to talk about is
3:00 that fine wine out performs the majority
3:02 of other alternative asset types so the
3:04 graph below shows you the night Frank
3:07 wealth reports from 2023 um and it lists
3:10 a number of um different um asset types
3:14 like jewelry cars and so on um and fine
3:15 wine is only bettered over a 10 year
3:18 period by whiskey which is much more
3:21 volatile um so when it comes to
3:23 diversifying your Investments fine wine
3:26 has a um a
3:30 real wealth of data to demonstrate it
3:32 has delivered over decades and decades
3:34 and decades whereas some um invest
3:38 investable assets come and go like bags
3:41 own scarves watches whiskey so on the
3:43 fourth thing to say is that one of the
3:44 great diversification benefits of Fine
3:47 Wine as an asset um that it has a
3:49 traditionally low correlation to
3:51 equities markets like the S&P 500 for
3:54 example um so what that means that it's
3:56 largely detached from equities market so
3:58 in times of real Financial stress and
4:01 turmoil like the 20 financial crash or
4:03 um during the early stages of the global
4:06 Corona virus pandemic um fine wine sort
4:09 of insulates the investor uh against
4:11 General market termoil and that's that's
4:12 a benefit especially when you're trying
4:14 to diversify your investment Holdings C
4:20 Portfolio I think one of the key things
4:21 to think about when considering
4:23 investing in fine wine is looking at how
4:26 the global events can affect and shift
4:29 the Fine Wine Market um so in my fine
4:30 wine investment guides which I'll keep
4:33 talking about the link is below um I I
4:35 go into I look at about eight or nine
4:36 different Global events that have
4:38 affected the market um but for this
4:41 video I'm looking at four brief ones so
4:43 the first is um as you can see on this
4:46 graph um the September 2008 when Layman
4:48 Brothers far for bankruptcy um following
4:50 the nationalization of uh Northern Rock
4:52 in the UK um so in the financial crash
4:56 you can see straight after that moment
4:59 the fine wine 100 which is the key fine
5:00 wine index
5:03 dropped a big chunk so the next uh
5:06 Global event is in July 2012 and that's
5:09 when China announced a Crackdown an
5:10 anti-corruption Crackdown on gift giving
5:14 between its members um so over time F
5:16 wine had become one of the key most
5:19 favored gifts to give between um party
5:21 members in this sort of corrupt practice
5:23 and that had driven up Global prices of
5:25 Fine Wine quite substantially and you
5:29 can see that shortly after um the tap is
5:32 turned off in July 2012 the market
5:33 slides because you're cutting off a
5:36 large chunk of the buying
5:39 Market um the third point to look at is
5:41 July 2016 which is when the UK voted for
5:44 brexit so
5:47 after brexit um overnight Sterling
5:49 weeken considerably and you can see
5:52 demonstrably on the graph how the fine y
5:55 100 index the key index for fine wine
5:57 sort of accelerated and appreciated
6:00 hugely in value and that was stay period
6:03 of growth for a good sort of four five
6:05 years and that was because there was a
6:07 currency benefit so because Sterling was
6:10 weak um rest of the world buyers either
6:13 in US dollars or in Euros were able to
6:16 buy ukeld stock Sterling stock at a
6:20 currency Advantage um so it was
6:22 discounted stop for them so the market s
6:24 piled in so as an example there of how
6:27 currency can affect fine wine the final
6:31 point is uh in March 201 20 so as Corona
6:34 virus started to circulate the globe um
6:37 and various Nations went to lockdown um
6:39 there were genuine fears obviously
6:41 financial markets tumbled there were
6:44 fears about people's ability to pay for
6:46 things so what happened in the F wine
6:49 world was the annual program called on
6:52 Premier or futures of selling a bordo
6:55 vintage um which happened in sort of May
7:00 June July August of 2020 saw a really
7:02 good vintage a bord vintage
7:05 2019 that was released at substantially
7:07 reduced prices because there was real
7:09 fear in bordo that people wouldn't buy
7:10 the wines because there was no money to
7:12 go around in fact because people were
7:14 staying at home um sales of Fine Wine
7:16 globally went through the roof because
7:18 there wasn't much else to do it was
7:19 something people got passionate about
7:22 exploring in their in their free time
7:24 and people had money to buy um a really
7:26 attractive highly rated critically
7:29 acclaimed vintage at much lower prices
7:31 than other vintages before it so you can
7:33 see then from March 2020 figure eight on
7:37 the graph the fine y Market finey 100
7:38 climbs and climbs and climbs for another
7:44 years so what are the key fine wine
7:46 investment philosophies well I can only
7:49 talk about how I operate um so as the
7:52 Director of Cline wine I have a certain
7:54 investment philosophy other businesses
7:55 will have their own and I can come on to
7:58 that later but for me there are some of
8:00 the key aspects I look at are included
8:02 in this video but there are a lot more
8:04 in my free F mine investment guide which
8:06 you can click on the link below to
8:08 access the first thing to look at is
8:10 outstanding vintages so
8:13 largely um the best vintages in say
8:16 Bordeaux champagne Italy burgundy um
8:18 will produce the greatest wines they're
8:21 the most sought after wines and they
8:24 will go up in value as inverse Supply
8:26 comes into effect inverse Supply is that
8:28 there's only a certain amount of each
8:29 wine made each year for each each
8:32 producer each vintage and over years
8:33 those Bott bottles are drunk they're
8:35 lost they're damaged they're smashed
8:37 whatever so that that supply of that
8:40 wine goes down year by year by year wine
8:42 is an asset which obviously gets better
8:44 the older it is so you have an asset
8:47 where as it diminishes in in in Supply
8:49 it becomes more desirable which drives
8:51 up demand which drives up price so
8:53 buyers tend to look for the best
8:55 vintages although there there are
8:57 obvious exceptions and caveats to this
8:58 which I'll go on to some of my examples
9:01 later the second thing I look for is the
9:03 highest rated wines that tends to come
9:05 hand inand with outstanding vintages so
9:07 there is a scoring system uh the 100
9:09 point system um which is a bit mad
9:11 because you rarely see a wine that's
9:13 rated lower than 80 so really it's a 20
9:16 point system which some UK uh critics
9:17 use nevertheless there is something
9:20 about a wine which is 100 points 99 or
9:22 100 points perfectional potential
9:24 Perfection and these are the Hall of
9:27 Fame wines uh that drive the market and
9:29 are sought after by buyers and investor
9:32 s and collectors CU at the end of the
9:34 day you might invest in fire wine for 5
9:36 years 10 years 15 years but who will buy
9:37 your wine at the end of it well it's
9:40 often drinkers hotels bars and often
9:43 collectors people want to buy and drink
9:46 the wine and enjoy it so the best wines
9:49 tend to from the best years tend to go
9:52 up in value um and terms of critics a
9:54 good example is Robert Parker Jr who
9:57 drove the market so for for for decades
10:00 as the the head of uh the head writer
10:02 for the wine Advocate an independent
10:06 wine critical magazine or Journal um he
10:08 developed 100 Point scoring system um
10:11 and the market was sort of beholden to
10:13 him if he if he gave a wine 100 points
10:15 then then those wines were the most
10:16 sought after wines and their value went
10:20 up as as an investable asset um and
10:22 that's I suppose in hindsight a little
10:23 bit concerning that one man can change
10:26 the entire Market um what you actually
10:28 found was a lots of producers around the
10:29 world started changing their
10:31 philosophies and wine makinging to
10:32 Create and Craft wines which they
10:35 thought Robert Parker would like more
10:37 Oak big sort of California style Reds
10:38 and Bordeaux thankfully we're now
10:40 returning to a more ter driven style in
10:44 Bordeaux but that's another story um
10:45 after Robert Parker Junior's sort of
10:47 retirement we have a sort of a
10:50 splintering o of crisal opinion but I
10:51 mean there are some key critics that
10:53 matter most there's Neil Martin from the
10:55 UK who's a much respected critic Jaye
10:58 Anson from inside bordo they're the for
11:00 me the top two but there are loads of
11:02 esteem critics around William Keeley
11:03 from the wine
11:07 Advocate and their 100 Point scores if
11:09 they ever give them which are rare um
11:10 you know do still drive the market
11:13 demonstrably so um so in the past Neil
11:14 Martin's given 100 points to certain
11:16 wines and their value overnight has gone
11:18 up it's really important that when
11:19 you're building a fine wi Investment
11:21 Portfolio whether with your broker or
11:25 with me um that you strive for um you
11:26 know your investment amount allowing of
11:29 course a mix of different regions so I
11:31 would suggests that having bordeau is
11:32 not enough although it should be the
11:34 bulk or the Bedrock of a of a good
11:38 portfolio um fine champagne vintage
11:39 champagne uh the wines of Italy from
11:42 Tuscany and Piedmont in the north um the
11:45 Rome burgundy and so on that they key
11:48 regions um which demand your attention
11:49 there are other regions which make
11:52 fantastic wine which I personally think
11:53 have no real investment value there
11:55 there's no data suggest that there's a
11:58 there's a a clamor for as stunning as
12:00 some of the wines from Green are Greek
12:02 wines as an investment asset um just to
12:05 use an obvious example um so whilst wine
12:07 should be enjoyed for drinking and and
12:08 for pleasure if you're treating it as a
12:11 colon asset um it's important to look at
12:12 the key wine regions of the world where
12:15 there is demand the fourth and final
12:17 thing I'll be looking at um in this
12:18 video Al there are plenty more in my
12:20 free F wine investment guide available
12:23 in the link below um our sub index
12:27 outperformers so in the livex um arena
12:29 livex is the London International Vint
12:31 exchange it's sort of the trading
12:33 platform globally for fine wine and they
12:35 have their key index which is the fine
12:37 fine wine 100 which we looked at before
12:39 with some Global offense and seeing how
12:41 that affects the market um but there are
12:44 also sub indexes so there's um uh an
12:48 index for indices for champagne the
12:51 champagne 50 the Italian 50 the ran
12:54 index the bordo Legends index and so on
12:56 and so forth and it's really important
12:58 as with any investment you're looking
13:01 for a wine or a number of wines which
13:04 outperform their peer group so for
13:07 example and I look at this later on um
13:09 champagne the champagne 50 has saw saw
13:11 sort of an exorable rise over about 15
13:14 to 20 years and during that time as it
13:18 was consistently growing um year on year
13:19 a certain number of wine certain
13:21 producers were outperforming it
13:24 substantially so Salon Champagne is one
13:25 of those one of those examples I'll come
13:27 on to that later but it's really key
13:29 that you look at um sub index out
13:33 performers so just to recap um some some
13:35 but not all of my fine wi in investment
13:37 philosophies um wines that are from
13:39 outstanding vintages that are critically
13:42 acclaimed from a range of you know
13:44 respected um treasured regions and which
13:46 outperform their peer group they're the
13:47 things I would start to look for if
13:55 wine so I'm now going to look at uh
14:00 three examples um of wines which l Lely
14:02 fit the criteria I've mentioned already
14:04 or some that perhaps Buck the trend uh
14:06 and the first I'm looking at is sad
14:10 nanal 2004 um Salon is probably the most
14:12 sought after champagne in the world it's
14:15 made in tiny quantities uh and it's only
14:17 made in the very very best years you may
14:20 go years and years between declared
14:22 vintages of SEL um when it's not made it
14:23 goes into another champagne that they
14:27 make so Salon is really the Apex of
14:30 vintage champagne for that reason uh
14:32 we've already mentioned inverse Supply
14:35 so the less there is of a of a really
14:37 sorta why in this case SEL there's not
14:38 much to start off with over time it's
14:41 going to go up hugely in value the other
14:43 thing you to consider is that vintage
14:45 champagne is largely only release about
14:48 10 years after its vintage so that's
14:50 because um producers tend to want to
14:52 keep it um maturing for 8 to 10 or even
14:54 12 years before they release it to the
14:59 market so Salon 2004 was released in
15:01 about 2013
15:03 2014 so you're already getting an asset
15:06 which is matured it's not perhaps fully
15:08 mature but it's mature for 10 years it's
15:09 not been released
15:13 immediately so you have a scarce um
15:16 asset from the start which is already
15:18 ready to go so for the for the for
15:21 champagne as a as a market is probably
15:23 the most Global wine brand you know
15:25 champagne is not just drunk you know at
15:28 home um it's drunk in bars in
15:31 restaurants in nightclubs on Yachts on
15:33 cruises on airplanes in airports you
15:35 know it's one of the biggest Global
15:38 cachets um and so you're looking at an
15:40 asset type that's that's been released
15:42 in 2004 that's ready to go sorry it's
15:45 been released in 2014 that's ready to go
15:49 Salon since its release 2004 has gone up
15:52 29% that's astonishing and it's worth
15:54 pointing out that I am yes I am
15:57 cherry-picking some great outstanding
15:59 examples there are other V which haven't
16:01 done this well and there are lots of
16:02 wines which don't do any anywhere
16:04 remotely near this sort of level of
16:06 appreciation indeed there are some wines
16:09 that drop in value um a chunk but for
16:11 the purposes of showing criteria Salon
16:15 2004 has done extraordinarily well um
16:18 and this the champagne 50 Market saw a
16:22 bit of a a boom really around 2018 2018
16:26 to 2021 really um where lots of Brokers
16:28 saw that it was a market on the rise and
16:30 so lots of investors par their money
16:33 into the top wine so Krug Don pero
16:37 Christal Tater comp the champagne and
16:39 Salon that equates to 35% of years in
16:43 terms of Salon we have um scarcity we
16:45 have an index outperformer so it's
16:47 outperformed the champagne 50
16:50 consistently as you can see on on this
16:51 graph so this graph shows you the
16:54 champagne 50
16:56 index and then this graph shows you
16:58 salon and Salon although it's not quite
17:00 clear from the graphs has largely
17:02 outperformed it substantially so that's
17:05 the first example the next example is
17:09 chat Le Ros 2014 now shat theat um owned
17:13 by domain Baron de rild is one of the
17:16 Superstar Harlem Globe trots in of wine
17:18 branding around the world they make
17:20 astonishing wines is one of the famous
17:22 five first growths of Bordeaux if there
17:25 were sort of a a football style table
17:27 system the five first grows would be the
17:30 Champions League so they are shatow Lor
17:34 Margo muton rild orrion and lefit um now
17:36 lefit is sought after and it can it has
17:38 consistently delivered for investors
17:40 although the reason you should buy Le is
17:43 to drink it and enjoy it it is Art it is
17:45 poetry it's one of the most stunning
17:47 things you'll ever get to try if you try
17:49 it and um I recommend you do because
17:51 it's it's astonishing wine but for the
17:53 purposes of this video looking at how it
17:57 behaved in the market um 2014 was an
17:59 interesting bordo vintage it it was good
18:01 to very good not a great vintage but
18:04 certainly good to very good some of the
18:07 wines were were very good to excellent
18:09 um and it came on the back of a 2013
18:11 vintage that was complete wash out and
18:13 bord it was a disaster wines were
18:16 largely very very poor critical scores
18:17 which I talked about before were very
18:22 low so people didn't buy the Vintage
18:23 they they voted with their feet and they
18:25 refused allocations of wines including
18:28 the feet so the following year when we
18:30 had quite a good
18:33 vintage uh cash levels were low for the
18:36 for the chatau um and they decided to to
18:39 reduce their prices substantially to try
18:42 and drive trade of this new 2014 vintage
18:45 on Premier or as a future what that
18:46 meant was that shattle defeat Russia
18:48 which is a really highly rated very
18:50 accomplished wine was released at a
18:54 really Keen price and over the next year
18:57 or two going into uh 2016 and 2017 the
18:59 market started to really realized that
19:01 there was a bargain to be had here cuz
19:04 it hadn't sold out so I had clients that
19:08 took on my advice shle the feat 2014 in
19:12 2016 and 2017 and it delivered really
19:15 well because its place is is in the you
19:18 know the upper levels of of lefit
19:21 echelons the sorry lefit vertical if you
19:23 will in terms of its critical score but
19:27 it price was was near the bottom so
19:29 since release it's gone up 9 8% then
19:32 that's astonishing for any asset um and
19:34 that's 12% a year which which is not to
19:38 be sniffed at leit as a as a wine is a
19:40 wine which as I say delivers
19:42 consistently it has a second wine called
19:45 uh carad Dela which has often always sry
19:48 has often um performed well because it's
19:50 a it's a slightly cheaper more
19:52 accessible way of owning the brand way
19:54 of owning the brand U and that's also
19:56 what I to look out
19:59 for my final example is not of a wine
20:01 uh from a vintage per se but of a
20:04 producer uh and this producer is Chu fak
20:07 on the right Bank of Bordeaux in santon
20:09 and I've mentioned chatu fiac before um
20:11 when I talked about my analysis of the
20:15 bordo 2022 on Premier campaign um fiac
20:18 make brilliant wine um and as there is a
20:20 classification system or a league table
20:21 on the Left Bank of Bordeaux I've
20:23 covered those five first grows of which
20:26 lefit rosard is one of them um Santa
20:28 Monon on the right bank has its own lead
20:30 table a classification system which
20:33 begins largely of satellit Village level
20:35 and then you have crew Class A which not
20:37 not a properly recognized level it's
20:39 more of an ASC level but then we have
20:42 gron crew Class A as the first tier then
20:45 we have Premier gron crew Class A B and
20:50 then Premier guu Class A a chatu fiac um
20:53 was upgraded from uh Premier gu crew
20:57 Class A B to a um a couple of years ago
21:01 um the re-evaluation of the
21:03 classification system happens roughly
21:06 about every 12 years and what it really
21:08 means is that a lots of the shatow put
21:09 forward their cases with lots of data
21:14 and and uh um bid documents essentially
21:16 um to the governing body um to try and
21:19 get themselves elevated uper upper level
21:20 because it means more exposure more
21:22 Prestige and therefore more sales and
21:25 more demand globally um what happened at
21:29 the time was we had some of the previous
21:32 Premier gr Class A wineries um like
21:37 shatow Angelus shatow uh chatow CH blonc
21:40 as an example um pull themselves out of
21:43 the system entirely so he decided to
21:45 withdraw from the classification system
21:46 because they thought it was too honorous
21:48 having to prove every 12 years that they
21:50 were worthy of the status they they
21:54 probably right rightfully claim um that
21:55 meant at the top of the tree there was
21:58 only one producer which which remained at
21:59 at
22:02 which was shatow pavy so for a wine to
22:04 be elevated out of its classification
22:06 system to the highest tier which
22:09 happened to shat fiac is a rare thing a
22:10 really really rare thing in the wine
22:13 world but it happened and what it meant
22:15 was that overnight quite literally
22:18 overnight jumped up in value so the
22:20 first example here is 2016 and you can
22:25 see at the point here um in 2022 of the
22:27 classification being announced and the
22:30 upgrade the value jumps up the next
22:33 example here is
22:37 2010 again in 2022 when the um
22:38 classification is announced and it's
22:42 gone to the highest level value drums up
22:45 going back as far as 2005 vintage same
22:47 thing happens there's a jump a leap in
22:49 the value on the market the one is
22:52 traded much more um
22:55 highly so hopefully that goes to show
22:58 that it's not just um you know critical
23:00 score and vintage and outperforming the
23:04 sub index that can affect fine wine um
23:06 the actual classification rules in
23:08 different regions have an impact as well
23:09 and they they affect global consumer
23:17 prices finally some things to be wary of
23:19 if you're thinking about investing in
23:20 fine wine now I've worked in the wine
23:23 industry for eight years now um dealing
23:25 with fine wine Investments um and there
23:28 are lots and lots and lots of companies globally
23:29 globally
23:33 that are essentially dodgy um you only
23:35 have to type in Far investment scam to
23:37 the internet to see that there are lots
23:38 of companies that will take your money
23:40 and not deliver you wine or that will
23:42 deliver you substandard wine um so it's
23:44 really important I think for to consider
23:47 a few things firstly when you invest
23:50 with a company um they should give you a
23:52 detailed explanation of why they're
23:55 proposing you invest in certain wines
23:57 it's not enough that you just sent a
24:00 list of wines and ask for ask to pay an
24:03 invoice with me at Cline and wine every
24:04 portfolio I put together is done is
24:06 completely bespoke um obviously there
24:08 are wines I favor but I always go back
24:10 and look at the data the prevailing data
24:12 the historic data and I'll put together
24:14 a you know substantial document which
24:17 I'll send out to um interested parties
24:20 um proposing wines um I think they
24:23 should invest in but also why so I'll
24:25 suggest that it's because there's an
24:27 upcoming classification change or it's
24:30 just been rated to 100 points um
24:31 although it's this graph shows it's on
24:37 the way up so ask questions ask why um a
24:39 broker is suggesting you you invest in a
24:41 certain wine I've seen fine wine lists
24:43 that are readily available on on places
24:46 like Reddit from supposedly the world's
24:50 leading fine wine investment Brokers um
24:52 which include wines which are s of table
24:56 wines you know sort of Premier crew shab
24:57 uh and wines from regions which have no
25:00 investability at all some companies will
25:03 take your money and sell you wines that
25:04 are from their stock just to get rid of
25:07 them so it's really important that you
25:09 interrogate your portfolio manager or
25:11 the person that's proposing a portfolio
25:13 to you about why those wines are
25:17 important second thing fine one is not
25:21 an FCA regulated market in the UK um so
25:22 it's really important you do your
25:25 research um and take advice from your
25:27 financial advisor your Tax Advisor as
25:31 well um personally I behave as if we are
25:34 an FC FCA regulated company that's we we
25:38 try and behave as much as we can um so
25:40 do your research on companies the people
25:42 you meet if you can meet them face to
25:44 face or or speak to them on a video Zoom
25:45 call then I think that's a really
25:48 positive thing um another thing to
25:50 consider is that when you have paid for
25:53 a portfolio of Fine Wines that you have
25:56 ownership of them yourself so it's an
25:59 important distinction I've helped um
26:02 people in the past who have come to me
26:04 uh and either they they've not heard
26:06 from a company for for ages or the
26:07 companies gone bust and run off with
26:10 their money and they have no they have
26:12 no Financial recourse because the whole
26:14 time the company that sold them the wine
26:17 own the wine themselves it's really
26:19 important when you invest with a broker
26:21 that you it's make clear that you own
26:23 your wine so for example if you invest
26:26 with Cline wine with me um we store our
26:29 wine at live X's
26:33 um bonded storage um Warehouse called
26:34 vinus National which is the gold
26:37 standard of f fine investment storage
26:39 it's you know it's temperature and
26:40 humidity controlled
26:43 obviously but it also is rigorous and
26:46 there's checking of cases and Bottles um
26:48 for you know quality condition checks
26:53 Providence checks um and each case that
26:55 comes into Vine gets a specific unique
26:57 identific identifi I can't even say it
27:01 unique unique identification descriptor
27:03 so those uids are unique to that
27:05 particular case so you should be sent
27:08 those uids for physical wine and you
27:09 should be your wine should be held in
27:12 your account under a sub account in your
27:15 name that means that you can go to a
27:17 Bonded Warehouse light Vine and say uh
27:20 you know I'm Mr Mr Smith here are here
27:22 is my sub account here are my uids
27:24 please can I have my wine so if anything
27:25 happens to the company you're dealing
27:28 with you have control of your assets and
27:29 you can sell it with someone else or
27:32 have delivery of it and drink it or sell
27:34 it it's really important that you again
27:36 ask those questions of your Brokers um
27:39 I've dealt with people in the past who
27:41 have been msold wines they've been sold
27:44 wines which would readily fit lots of
27:45 the criteria I've talked about in this
27:47 video but they've been sold them at you
27:50 know perhaps double the price so it's
27:52 really important that they all not only
27:53 you being sold the right ones but
27:55 they're selling you them at a proper
27:58 price some Brokers will charge you a um
27:59 a brokerage fee to get the wine from the
28:02 open market so if a wine costs £5,000
28:05 for 12 bottles they'll charge maybe 10%
28:07 or 8% on top of that to go and get the
28:09 wine for you and then they'll charge you
28:12 a management fee as well what that means
28:13 is that your your wine has to appreciate
28:18 by 18% before it even let you break even
28:22 at fine at CL fine wine um we charge a
28:24 12 1 half% upfront fee that's basically
28:26 2 and a half% every year for 5 years and
28:28 it's up front and that's the the only
28:29 fee there is so if we go and get a wine
28:31 from you from the secondary Market you
28:33 pay exactly what we pay for the wine and
28:35 that means your wine starts appreciating
28:38 value much sooner and you start making
28:40 the return all things being the same the
28:47 properly so I hope that's been a useful
28:49 video for you um as I said there's much
28:52 more information included in my 28 page
