0:01 okay alright so we're gonna do something
0:04 very special tonight you guys know
0:06 Hebrews eleven has the Hall of faith
0:08 right where it discusses all these Old
0:09 Testament figures in how they had this
0:11 great lives of faith or at least great
0:14 moments of faith trusting in God but I
0:18 think that it is also a Hall of types or
0:23 typology of foreshadowing Jesus we
0:25 already have established this typology
0:27 is a very biblical thing and according
0:29 to Jesus typology is gonna be throughout
0:31 the entire Bible numerous passages and a
0:33 bunch of different examples we've
0:35 already given throughout this series
0:38 we've dealt with things like the bronze
0:39 serpent how the bronze serpent
0:41 represented Jesus well we've dealt with
0:44 Moses how Moses represented Christ in so
0:47 many ways and even themes throughout the
0:49 Old Testament like out of Egypt how
0:50 people keep coming out of Egypt into
0:52 Egypt out of Egypt and this ends up
0:54 being something Jesus does and even a
0:57 theme like that represents Jesus so let
0:58 me tell you what what made me first
1:01 think of Hebrews 11 this is this is for
1:02 me a fairly new understanding of Hebrews
1:05 11 it doesn't change the meaning of the
1:07 text rather it's a theme I see running
1:10 through the text but well maybe think of
1:12 this as previously I told you guys when
1:14 we talked about Genesis 22 which was the
1:15 passage where Abraham is offering Isaac
1:18 and how this is like so clearly a
1:21 picture of Jesus in the location and all
1:23 everything about it right and I said
1:25 this passage is nowhere in the New
1:27 Testament and I chose my words carefully
1:30 I said it is nowhere clearly identified
1:35 as a type of Christ well I was the word
1:36 clearly on purpose because there is this
1:38 one passage in Hebrews Hebrews 11 verse
1:42 17 where it says by faith Abraham when
1:44 he was tested offered up Isaac and he
1:46 who had received the promises was in the
1:49 act of offering up his only son of whom
1:51 it was said through Isaac shall your
1:53 offspring be named he considered that
1:55 God was able and this is a crazy part
1:58 even to raise him from the dead from
2:00 which figuratively speaking he did
2:03 receive him back now this takes a very
2:06 Jesus centric concept God raising the
2:09 son from the dead in it and it connects
2:11 it to the story of Abraham but it
2:13 doesn't clearly say it's a type it's just
2:13 just
2:15 kind of like well that's interesting
2:16 does this is this an Old Testament
2:20 example of Jesus well not entirely clear
2:22 but it seems there's something really
2:24 there and when you read the book of
2:26 Hebrews you find that the entire book of
2:29 Hebrews is full of typology angels and
2:32 high priests and priests Melchizedek
2:33 right we talked about motifs that came
2:35 from the book of Hebrews we have Moses
2:37 being a type clearly identified in other
2:39 parts of the book of Hebrews we even
2:41 have the law being a count sort of a
2:43 counter type of Christ so there's just
2:47 all this stuff and my thought was if one
2:49 of the examples in Hebrews 11 is a type
2:51 I wonder if others are as well and as I
2:53 started to read Hebrews 11 fresh and
2:55 just said let me just read it and ask
2:58 are other examples here also types of
3:00 Christ and that led to today's Bible
3:03 study so there's at least 16 of them in
3:05 in Hebrews 11 and we're gonna start
3:07 plowing through them tonight we probably
3:08 will have to do this in two Sundays to
3:11 get this whole study done but we'll see
3:13 how far we get tonight I'm not gonna do
3:15 an hour and a half to plow through all
3:16 right now
3:17 and some of you are happy and some are
3:26 so I submit this for your consideration
3:29 something to think about how Hebrews 11
3:32 is possibly quite probably a hall of
3:35 types not just a hall of faith so
3:37 Hebrews 11:1 it says now faith is the
3:38 assurance of things hoped for the
3:41 conviction of things not seen for by it
3:42 the people of old received their
3:45 commendation meaning that these ancient
3:48 examples what what was great about them
3:51 was their faith right verse 3 by faith
3:53 we understand that the universe and this
3:55 is the first by faith phrase is gonna
3:57 say by faith this by faith that by faith
3:59 this person by faith that event here
4:02 says the first time verse 3 by faith we
4:04 understand that the universe was created
4:07 by the Word of God so that it so that
4:09 what was what is seen was not made out
4:11 of things that are visible this is the
4:13 concept we say creation the fancy term
4:15 creation ex nihilo or creation out of
4:19 nothing when people like to be you know
4:20 smart they use Latin
4:24 ex nihilo so the idea though here is out
4:26 of nothing the universe was made out of
4:28 simply nothing God simply spoke it into existence
4:29 existence
4:31 it's simply by his word we read about
4:34 this in Genesis 1 right and God said let
4:36 there be light and gods and there's a
4:38 bunch of and God said over and over
4:40 again in Genesis 1 God says it and
4:42 suddenly it exists suddenly it is
4:44 suddenly that's the way things are in
4:46 Psalm 33 6 we have this kind of
4:49 interpreted as well Psalm 33 6 is by the
4:51 word of the Lord the heavens were made
4:54 and by the breath of his mouth all their
4:57 hosts now this is poetic language here
4:59 but but God in other words simply spoke
5:01 everything into existence he commanded
5:03 it and it was and this has got to be the
5:06 most raw form of power that you can just
5:09 declare something and there it is I
5:12 can't think of a stronger way to
5:14 demonstrate God's raw power and simply
5:16 creating just by speaking it into
5:18 existence but how is this related to
5:21 Christ well many of you you already know
5:25 right I mean the word right so John 1 it
5:27 says in the beginning in verse 1 of John
5:29 1 in the beginning was the word and the
5:31 Word was God and the word but to me the
5:33 Word was with God in the Word was God he
5:35 was in the beginning with God and then
5:38 adds this phrase verse 3 all things were
5:41 made through him and without him was not
5:43 anything made that was made
5:46 if it exists it was made through Jesus
5:47 ever so say if it was made it was made
5:49 through Jesus the only thing that's not
5:54 made is God so Jesus says God the Word
5:54 was God
5:57 but he's related and of course John in
5:59 writing John 1 he knows the story of
6:02 Genesis he knows that God spoke the
6:04 universe into existence and he says yes
6:07 God spoke the universe and Jesus is the
6:15 word he spoke the word Jesus is not just
6:17 this the same and in his function in
6:20 what he does as the father here right
6:22 the father creates all things and he
6:25 creates all things through the son he's
6:27 the one who it's being done through he's
6:28 the agent now this is actually really
6:30 consistent several places in the New
6:33 Testament give Jesus not only credit for
6:34 creating all things
6:36 clearly indicating his God but they give
6:38 him credit of being the one through whom
6:41 it was created specifically through
6:43 first Corinthians 8:6 is another verse
6:46 like this it says yet for us there is
6:48 one God the Father from whom are all
6:52 things and for whom we exist and one
6:55 Lord Jesus Christ through whom are all
6:57 things and through whom we exist and
6:58 notice the parallel between God the
6:59 Father and then Jesus Christ
7:03 so God the Father it says from whom
7:06 everything exists from him and for him
7:09 then of Jesus everything exists through
7:14 him and excuse me through whom are all
7:16 things and through whom we exist I think
7:17 maybe there's a correlation between not
7:20 only all creation but being in Christ as
7:21 well maybe there's a good concert there
7:22 as well
7:24 but Jesus is the agent by which all
7:26 things are created and he himself is
7:30 uncreated colossians 1:16 is this for by
7:32 him all things were created in heaven
7:34 and on earth visible and invisible
7:36 whether Thrones or dominions or rulers
7:39 or authorities all things were created
7:43 through him and for him now earlier it
7:45 said in first Corinthians we read that
7:47 all things were made for the father now
7:48 it's all things are made for the son
7:51 well if the word is God and is with God
7:54 then that makes sense for both or him is
7:57 for him he's God you know but this this
7:59 concept of created through him then in
8:02 Hebrews Hebrews 1:2 it also says the
8:04 same thing Hebrews 1:2 says but in these
8:07 last days he has spoken to us remember
8:09 the word he spoken into existence by his
8:11 son whom he appointed the heir of all
8:15 things through whom also he created the
8:18 world this is a really consistent
8:21 multi-book concept from Genesis all the
8:23 way through the New Testament and then
8:26 we read this in Hebrews 11:3 our first
8:29 example of Christ same book that just
8:30 said all things were made through Jesus
8:32 it says by faith we understand the
8:34 universe was created by the Word of God
8:38 the first type is much probably stronger
8:41 than a type right it's saying the
8:43 universe was created ultimately by Jesus
8:47 right he created all things so that's
8:48 the first example
8:51 I hope you see that connection verse 4
8:54 of Hebrews 11 we get the second example
8:56 by faith Abel offered to God a more
9:00 acceptable sacrifice than Cain through
9:02 which he was commended as righteous God
9:04 commending him by accepting his gifts
9:06 and through his faith though he died he
9:08 still speaks so he's communicating to us
9:10 through his faith now this is very interesting
9:11 interesting
9:14 um Abel is the first historical
9:15 character Hebrews 11 brings up it'll
9:17 bring up a lot of historical characters
9:19 Old Testament individuals Abel's the
9:22 first one and Abel again if you look at
9:24 the it's chronological so far right we
9:27 were in Genesis 1 as we read the first
9:29 example now we're here in Genesis 4 as
9:31 we read the second example so Genesis 4
9:35 verse 2 we read about the birth of Abel
9:36 it says and again she she bore his
9:39 brother Abel now Abel was a keeper of
9:42 sheep and Cain a worker of the ground in
9:44 the course of time came brought to the
9:46 Lord an offering of the fruit of the
9:48 ground and Abel also brought of the
9:50 firstborn of his flock and of their fat
9:53 portions and the Lord had regard for
9:55 Abel and his offering God approves of
9:56 Abel's offering but for Cain and his
9:59 offering he had no regard so Cain was
10:02 very angry and his face fell his face
10:05 fell off that's clearly not idiomatic
10:09 for him being angry and his his smile
10:11 got turned upside down right he became a
10:13 frown his face fell that's the idea why
10:15 the long face we say well I say that
10:19 nobody else says that anymore so these
10:24 these connect able to Jesus how like how
10:27 do I say this connection in Hebrews 11
10:29 here about Abel references Jesus well
10:32 let me see this in two other places the
10:34 New Testament connects Jesus and Abel
10:37 already we already know Abel's somehow
10:39 represents Christ and one of those is
10:42 Matthew 23 35 we've read this before
10:44 Jesus is speaking to Jerusalem and he
10:46 says that on you Jerusalem may come all
10:48 the righteous blood shed on the earth
10:51 from the blood of righteous abel to the
10:52 blood of zechariah the son of berechiah
10:54 whom you murdered between the sanctuary
10:57 and the altar and that the rejection of
11:00 Jesus the ultimate Messenger of God
11:05 was like rejecting every godly person
11:08 ever because he's the culmination he's
11:10 that he's the ultimate example of God
11:12 reaching out to mankind God's sending
11:15 someone in this case he speaks to us but
11:17 I God Himself comes and speaks to us
11:18 that's the first one
11:21 then in Hebrews 12 24 there's another
11:23 place where it connects Abel and Jesus
11:26 this is an to Jesus the mediator of a
11:28 new covenant and to the sprinkled blood
11:30 that speaks a better word than the blood
11:34 of Abel and so here Jesus enable are
11:37 grabbed and compared in this other verse
11:41 pardon me and this is kind of a the
11:44 concept here Abel offers an acceptable
11:48 sacrifice Cain does not I'm able then is
11:50 killed by his brother Cain Cain rises up
11:52 and as you keep reading Genesis 4 he
11:55 rises up and kills his brother and Jesus
11:58 is his blood his blood comes to the
12:02 ground and then Cain is is not able to
12:03 draw from the ground any more there's
12:05 some kind of universality in the way it
12:07 affects Cain the blood of Abel and the
12:10 blood of Jesus is the reverse of that
12:12 right it is it is a protection it is a
12:14 forgiveness it is Grace it speaks a
12:20 there's more though I think so now I
12:22 just established that Cain and Abel and
12:24 Jesus are connected in other places in
12:25 the scripture but what about this
12:28 Hebrews 11 passage it says specifically
12:30 Abel he brought a more acceptable
12:33 sacrifice than Cain that's that's the
12:34 concept he had a more acceptable
12:37 sacrifice and that is a theme in the
12:38 book of Hebrews as you read the whole
12:41 book of Hebrews that Jesus's sacrifice
12:42 is better than all of the previous
12:44 sacrifices right the blood of bulls and
12:46 goats could never really get a get rid
12:49 of sin but Jesus one time he he dies and
12:51 pays for our sin that they they kept
12:53 redoing the sacrifices Jesus one
12:55 sacrifice they were always standing in
12:56 the temple it never sat down Jesus he
12:58 sacrifices and sits down because his job
13:01 is done like that it's everything it's
13:02 all in Hebrews it's always Jesus is a
13:04 better sacrifice Jesus is a better
13:06 priest Jesus is better than the Angels
13:08 he's better better better here he's
13:11 better than what happened with Cain
13:13 and Abel sacrifice was better than
13:15 Cain's while Jesus is better than Abel's
13:18 it's just interesting to think that
13:20 Cain's and Abel sacrifices predate the
13:23 law I mean hey they predate Abraham let
13:26 alone Moses I mean this is like we're
13:29 talking ancient times what's happening
13:31 here unlike them Abel's offering was the
13:34 first offering in the Bible and it's
13:36 like the offering that Jesus gave
13:40 because he offers a sheep and the Sheep
13:42 is probably the most tip illogical
13:44 animal that the animal that connects
13:46 most of all the sacrificial animals to
13:49 Jesus is the Sheep the Passover lamb the
13:52 Sheep this this concept of a spotless
13:55 one who comes and who is who's basically
13:58 just all you are is for an offering
13:59 that's like how you exist in what you're
14:02 for so I think that's interesting this
14:04 offering comes before the law and it's
14:06 the most tip illogical in my opinion of
14:08 the sacrifices but Abel also Abel is a
14:10 shepherd yeah Abel's a shepherd he's
14:12 martyred and he offers an acceptable
14:13 sacrifice these are like the things we
14:16 know about him he's a shepherd who's
14:18 martyred and who offers the acceptable
14:20 sacrifice I think that sounds like Jesus
14:21 he's the Good Shepherd he was the
14:23 ultimate martyr and he was the final
14:25 ultimate acceptable sacrifice to make us
14:29 acceptable to God verse 5 Hebrews 11
14:32 verse 5 by faith Enoch Enoch was taken
14:33 up so that he should not see death and
14:36 he was not found because God had not God
14:38 had taken him now before he was taken he
14:41 was commended as having pleased God so
14:43 now we get to this character Enoch who
14:44 working we're continuing to go
14:46 chronologically right now now we're in
14:48 Genesis 5 if you're reading through
14:51 Genesis in Genesis 5 we read about Enoch
14:53 he was the seventh generation from Adam
14:55 we know hardly anything about this guy
14:57 what little we know is that he didn't
15:03 die he just wasn't he just was not where
15:03 is he
15:05 God took him that's what we know so let
15:08 me read to Genesis 5:21 it says when
15:10 Enoch had lived 65 years he fathered
15:12 Methuselah Enoch walked with God after
15:14 he'd father Methuselah 300 years and had
15:16 other sons and daughters thus all the
15:19 days of Enoch were 365 years then verse
15:21 24 this is the this is the rest of the
15:23 info you know about this guy Enoch
15:25 walked with God and
15:29 was not for God took him there are tons
15:32 of ancient Jewish traditions and
15:35 speculations about Enoch tons they're
15:37 like maybe he's this maybe he did that
15:38 know we have all these stories about
15:40 what he did
15:42 but what would literally know about him
15:44 is he walked with God and then he simply
15:48 wasn't around because God took him I
15:52 would say Jesus did this as well he is
15:55 he is amongst a few in the Bible who
15:58 were taken who were simply taken by God
16:02 in Luke 24 50 and 51 we read about this
16:03 it says and he led them out as far as
16:05 Bethany and lifting up his hands he
16:08 blessed them while he blessed them he
16:10 parted from them and was carried up into
16:12 heaven that was the last time the
16:16 disciples saw Jesus on the earth so
16:17 after his death and resurrection for
16:20 forty days and nights he he then goes
16:22 around and he's sharing with people he's
16:24 doing different things and then his
16:26 ascension happens he goes to the Mount
16:27 of Olives and he's just taken up into
16:30 heaven acts 1:9 gives us a little bit
16:32 more info it says and when he said these
16:34 things as they were looking on he was
16:36 lifted up and a cloud took him out of
16:37 their sight
16:39 a cloud takes him out of their sight so
16:41 he keep the last thing they saw as he
16:45 went up into a cloud now does that mean
16:48 that heaven is in that cloud no I mean
16:49 obviously God is doing this to
16:52 demonstrate to us truths about Jesus he
16:54 wants the visual of you seeing Christ go
16:56 up so that you will realize Christ is
17:00 what accepted he's glorified he's
17:02 exalted right he was brought low and now
17:05 he's lifted up now he's exalted he's
17:07 accepted by the cloud in fact the Jewish
17:09 mind would realize that in the Old
17:13 Testament the Son of Man who's
17:15 identified as the Messiah comes riding
17:18 on the clouds and that was a really
17:20 important phrase for lots of reasons I
17:21 don't have time to get into tonight but
17:23 really neat phrases coming on the clouds
17:25 are riding on the clouds this concept of
17:28 this exalted one because every Jewish
17:31 person knows God rides on the clouds it
17:32 is God who rides on the clouds but
17:34 there's this Daniel passage in Daniel I
17:35 think is Daniel 7 where it says it's the
17:37 Son of Man is riding on the clouds and
17:38 they tell that
17:40 I polls after Jesus has taken up he goes
17:42 just like you saw and go that's how it's
17:44 gonna look when he comes back is he
17:47 riding on the class so ha ha so a couple
17:49 of things to consider
17:53 Enoch he was not found the text says he
17:55 was not found how does that represent
17:58 Jesus well John 732 it says then the
18:00 Pharisees heard the crowd muttering
18:02 these things about him about Jesus and
18:04 the chief priests and Pharisees sent
18:07 officers to arrest him Jesus then said I
18:09 will be with you a little longer and
18:11 then I'm going to him who sent me he's
18:13 talking about his ascension he says you
18:15 will seek me and you will not find me
18:18 for where I am you cannot come so Jesus
18:21 he he went up and he was not found I
18:23 think that connects has kind of neat
18:27 also it says the Enoch pleased God he
18:29 pleased God and him being taken up is
18:30 really like an affirmation I mean yeah
18:32 you please God guys like here come here
18:35 obviously you pleased God and this is
18:37 the case for Jesus that it was the the
18:42 visible representation of Christ being
18:45 received being yes you are approved you
18:48 are affirmed you know as the exalted one
18:53 all right Hebrews 11:6 it says without
18:55 faith it is impossible to please him for
18:57 whoever would draw near to God must
18:59 believe that he exists and that he
19:04 rewards those who seek him of course the
19:07 truth is in like in verse 6 here it's
19:10 it's not just blind faith that you have
19:11 to have you have to have faith in Jesus
19:13 like ultimately the faith that we have
19:15 is in Christ you draw near through faith
19:17 in Jesus Christ that of course
19:19 represents him in a sense that right
19:21 there because Jesus is the one that
19:23 brings you in but just on a side note
19:26 here since verse 6 isn't so much tip
19:27 illogical as I just announce a pastoral
19:31 moment right this is this is kind of
19:33 important that what our faith is is I
19:34 don't just have faith in the ideas of
19:36 Christianity right I believe the ideas
19:38 or the truths of Christianity are true
19:43 but my faith my trust is in him my trust
19:45 is personally in God through Jesus
19:49 Christ I'm trusting him not just ideas
19:51 not just concepts I mean I believe all
19:52 the theology of Christian
19:56 but my trust I can't so much trust
19:59 theology as I can trust a person and I
20:00 trust him and so I just want to
20:02 encourage us that we've got to trust him
20:04 we do have to believe correct theology
20:06 because the only believing lies about
20:08 God I mean how can i really trust him if
20:09 I have a bunch of lies in my head about
20:12 him but ultimately it says he's a
20:16 rewarder of those who seek him it's
20:19 deeply personal it's deeply individually
20:22 personal this walk with God and that's
20:24 my favorite part of it verse seven
20:27 Hebrews 11:7 it says by faith Noah now I
20:29 bring up Noah being warned by God
20:31 concerning events as yet unseen in
20:33 reverent fear constructed an ark for the
20:35 saving of his household by this he
20:37 condemned the world and became an heir
20:39 of the righteousness that comes by faith
20:40 and you see we're still going
20:41 chronologically through Genesis now
20:45 we're in the flood and so Noah how is
20:47 Noah related to Christ how is Noah a
20:50 type of Christ well perhaps he is but I
20:51 don't think that's where I'm gonna go
20:54 with it I think the ark is a type of
20:57 Christ by faith Noah being warned by God
20:59 concerning events as yet unseen in
21:02 reverent fear constructed an ark and I
21:06 think the ark the ark er key is a type
21:08 of Christ
21:12 specifically notice what the ark did it
21:14 says he constructed an ark for the
21:16 saving of his household the ark would
21:20 save them Jesus ultimately saves us can
21:22 I compare Jesus to an inanimate object
21:25 you mean like a bronze serpent or a rock
21:29 that was struck yes yes I can if I got
21:30 strong biblical reasons to do this
21:33 actually what was that manna from heaven
21:37 perhaps yes yeah absolutely we can we
21:41 and we ought to the ark if you read the
21:44 story of the flood it it's the Ark that
21:48 takes the flood for the people in it
21:50 they survived the flood because the ark
21:53 can withstand it it can get rained on it
21:54 can get flooded and they can come out
21:58 alive it takes the judgment for them
22:01 then they're safely taken through
22:04 because the ark is able to overcome in a
22:05 sense the judgment
22:07 Christ overcomes the judgment he goes
22:10 into death he conquers it and I get in
22:14 Christ and in Christ read Ephesians will
22:17 one two three four five and six and
22:20 you'll see that in Christ I'm in him
22:22 that then I am delivered from judgment
22:24 and from the wrath of God because he's
22:26 able to withstand and overcome it I
22:28 think it's a beautiful picture of Christ
22:29 right with the flood certainly equals
22:31 judgment and death if you read the
22:33 passage then we have this in a second
22:36 Peter 3:6 it says in that by means of
22:39 these the world that then existed was
22:42 deluged that means flooded with water
22:45 and perished the description in 2nd
22:48 Peter of the flood it describes the
22:50 world that then existed and it says that
22:54 it died that the flood caused it to
22:58 perish now there's a debate on did that
23:00 does that word world mean the people God
23:02 so loved the world as the people isn't
23:03 mean the world the people or the world
23:05 like the entire planet
23:07 that's not the focus of this particular
23:09 studies I'll just others throw it out
23:10 there you can debate it amongst
23:14 yourselves but death ultimately comes to
23:17 all and but only in Jesus can we make it
23:19 through from one world to the next in
23:21 fact that's what happened the the vision
23:22 that we're getting it in the flood story
23:25 is that one world dies and another one
23:26 comes and the only way to get through is
23:29 through the ark you see this world is
23:31 passing away and the only way to make it
23:34 through is Jesus Christ I don't think
23:35 I'm making this up
23:38 I think God made this up and he put it
23:40 in the text and he wants us to discover
23:43 these things first Peter also goes on to
23:46 relate this whole Ark situation to the
23:48 concept of baptism so let me read to you
23:51 this in 1st Peter 3:20 and 21 this is
23:53 because they formerly did not obey when
23:55 God's patience waited in the days of
23:57 Noah while the ark was being prepared in
23:58 which a few that as eight persons were
24:01 brought safely through water baptism
24:03 which corresponds to this now saves you
24:05 not as a removal of dirt from the body
24:07 so we're not talking about get water
24:08 baptized to be saved
24:11 no no but as an appeal of to God for a
24:12 good conscience through the resurrection
24:15 of Jesus this specifically compares the
24:18 flood and getting delivered through the flood
24:18 flood
24:21 to being identified in Christ in his
24:23 death and resurrection and so every time
24:24 I baptized people I mentioned how this
24:26 symbolizes dying with Christ and being
24:29 raised with Christ and here it's a flood
24:31 you're going through your own personal
24:33 flood in Baptism and that's the idea so
24:36 Romans 6:3 supports this it says do you
24:38 not know that all of us who've been
24:41 baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized
24:43 into his death we were buried therefore
24:45 with him by baptism into death in order
24:47 that just as Christ was raised from the
24:49 dead by the glory of the Father we too
24:51 might walk in newness of life Jesus dies
24:53 and comes out alive and all after dues
24:55 be identified with him in that the ark
24:57 goes through the flood you just have to
25:02 be in the ark to be saved Jesus in the
25:06 Ark Jesus in the Ark is interesting
25:10 concept in Romans 8:1 it says this there
25:12 is therefore now no condemnation for
25:15 those who are in Christ Jesus
25:18 I mean positionally in Christ Jesus in
25:22 the ark there was condemnation for
25:24 everyone who is outside the ark and
25:26 there was salvation for everyone who was
25:30 in the ark but as we read the story and
25:32 you you come to this one verse Genesis
25:35 716 that jumps out to you see if you can
25:36 find out what jumps out to you in this
25:38 verse it's it says this and those that
25:40 entered male and female of all flesh
25:43 went in as God commanded him and the
25:46 Lord shut him in and we have this moment
25:48 when they all get in the ark and it's
25:51 like well who's gonna seal the opening
25:53 now because the ark had an opening in
25:55 its side and they all went in and
25:57 something had to seal and close this
25:59 thing up and the Lord shut it and sealed
26:01 it up and now no one can get in knowing
26:03 no one's getting out and then the flood
26:05 came and then the flood came now here's
26:14 Jesus had an opening in his side as well
26:17 in particular it's I mean he had you
26:18 know there's the nails in his hands and
26:20 feet then there's the opening in his
26:23 side now as I understand it until that
26:25 door was closed you could get in the Ark
26:27 and be saved but once that door was
26:29 sealed at now that's it judgments coming
26:30 it's too late
26:32 Jesus after his death and resurrection
26:35 he had an opening in his side that was
26:37 not sealed as he comes to Thomas and he
26:39 goes Thomas go ahead put your hand in my
26:43 side and I am NOT saying this is
26:46 guaranteed but I really wonder if this
26:47 is meant to somehow represent the fact
26:50 that salvation is still open you can
26:52 still be in Christ even right now today
26:54 it's the day of grace it's the day of
26:56 being accepted of being entering into
26:59 Christ and being saved by him and then
27:02 the sealing comes from God he seals you
27:04 and and in being in Christ you are
27:06 sealed by the Holy Spirit Ephesians 1:13
27:08 in him you also when you heard the word
27:09 of truth the gospel of your salvation
27:10 and believed him
27:12 were sealed with the promised Holy
27:14 Spirit and there's the sealing in him
27:17 that comes from the Holy Spirit so I
27:18 think that's kind of interesting it also
27:23 says in Hebrews 11:7 that through doing
27:23 all these things
27:26 Noah condemned of the world isn't that
27:28 interesting the Ark is like a dividing
27:29 point and it's like either you get in
27:31 and you're saved or you don't and you're
27:33 condemned and it actually brings greater
27:36 condemnation on you he condemned the
27:39 world well Jesus it's kind of the same
27:41 way in John 12:31 it says now is the
27:43 judgment of the world now will the ruler
27:46 of this world be cast out Jesus in John
27:48 12 he's talking about his crucifixion
27:50 and he goes I'm gonna die this is gonna
27:52 be it's gonna be the salvation for those
27:54 who trust me but it's condemnation for
27:57 the for the world for those who don't in
28:00 John 3:18 and 19 we all know John 3:16
28:02 some people have never read the rest of
28:03 the chapter I think would be very wise
28:05 to look at the whole thing it says
28:07 whoever believes in Him is not condemned
28:09 but whoever does not believe is
28:11 condemned already because he's not
28:12 believed in the name of the only Son of
28:15 God and this is the judgment that light
28:17 has come into the world and people loved
28:18 the darkness rather than the light
28:20 because their works were evil so it's an
28:22 increased condemnation for rejecting
28:24 Jesus but a total salvation
28:26 for accepting Jesus it's like you're
28:28 either saved by Jesus or finally
28:33 condemned by Jesus but currently the arc
28:34 is opened at the moment at this moment
28:36 the arc is open and the condemnation is
28:38 not coming down praise God
28:41 yet so you guys like in this Hebrews 11
28:44 pretty neat stuff there's more so
28:45 Hebrews 11 verse 8
28:48 by faith Abraham now let's talk about
28:49 Abraham continuing chronologically
28:52 Abraham obeyed when he was called to go
28:53 out to a place that he was to receive as
28:56 an inheritance and he went out not
28:58 knowing where he was going by faith he
29:00 went to live in the land of promise as
29:03 in a foreign land living in tents with
29:05 Isaac and Jacob heirs with him of the
29:09 same promise let's read a little bit of
29:11 Genesis here because we're gonna read
29:13 about when God first calls Abraham I
29:15 think is just interesting in Genesis 12
29:18 he says now the Lord said to Abraham go
29:20 from your country and your kindred and
29:23 your father's house to a land that I
29:25 will show you and I will make of you a
29:27 great nation and I will bless you and
29:29 make your name great so that you will be
29:30 a blessing I will bless those who bless
29:33 you and him who dishonored you I will
29:35 curse and I knew all the families of the
29:37 earth shall be blessed now this very promise
29:38 promise
29:41 it's very calling to Abram is so
29:43 messianic right because ultimately
29:46 Abraham's whole blessing cursing promise
29:48 it's all about Jesus that's the ultimate
29:50 thing that Israel is bringing forth was
29:51 the Messiah
29:53 so this his calling to go into a land
29:55 was about bringing out the Messiah in
29:56 the first place it was about Jesus
29:59 Christ the blessing and cursing this
30:02 sort of dividing line that Abraham is
30:04 he's like you're gonna be you're gonna
30:06 be the decision how they treat you is
30:08 how I treat them and this is of course
30:10 Jesus this is this is Christ how you
30:12 treat Jesus is how God treats you
30:14 ultimately right Jesus when he tells his
30:16 parable of or his story rather but how
30:17 the Son of Man will come and there'll be
30:19 some who who were like Lord didn't we do
30:21 all these things in your name and he
30:22 goes yeah but how you treated the least
30:24 of these my brethren that's how you
30:26 treated me it's ultimately all about him
30:28 those who were like when did we ever see
30:29 you and he goes not how you treated them
30:31 as how you treated me it's ultimately
30:33 how you treat Christ
30:35 this very promise totally about Jesus in
30:38 Abraham in Genesis 12
30:40 Abraham is called specifically to leave
30:47 his land and his father's house how do
30:50 you think that represents Jesus you know
30:53 he leaves heaven he comes up from his
30:56 father John John 16 28 he says I came
30:57 from the Father and have come into the
30:59 world and now I'm leaving the world and
31:02 going to the Father John 17:5 and now
31:04 father glorify me in your own presence
31:05 with the glory that I had with you
31:08 before the world existed so Abram leaves
31:11 father and land to go out so that what
31:14 so that he might become a people so that
31:15 he might bless this distant offspring
31:18 these other people he goes out away from
31:22 his father it's really interesting that
31:26 Abram dies in faith so that his
31:31 offspring can be blessed Jesus he dies
31:34 to bring us the blessing what he did was
31:37 he just kept giving things up so that he
31:39 could then bring them to us and that's
31:42 kind of what Abram goes through as well
31:48 then in John 1:14 we have another
31:49 connection to Abram because it's
31:50 interesting as you read the story of
31:52 Abraham you get this phrase he pitched
31:54 his tent or he set up his tent and he
31:55 was he always dwelt in tents in fact
31:57 Hebrews talked about it says he would
31:59 welt in tents with with his sons with
32:02 Isaac and Jacob 'if he dwells in tents
32:04 that's kind of what he does it's his
32:06 theme but this is what Jesus did in John
32:08 1:14 we have this interesting phrase and
32:11 the word became flesh and dwelt amongst
32:13 us this is literally the word that means
32:16 tabernacled or to live in a tent to set
32:18 up a tent that's like what the greek
32:20 word means and i think it was chosen
32:22 purposely purposefully and i think he
32:24 may relate also to the to the actual
32:26 Tabernacle in the wilderness where God
32:29 tabernacled amongst them that's a
32:32 different study spoiler alert look we'll
32:33 do the we'll do the whole tabernacle
32:35 stuff at some point I'm excited to do
32:38 that so Abraham dwelt in tents Jesus of
32:40 course he came in a tent in that human
32:45 form that temporary dwelling to come
32:46 into a land that was in a sense
32:50 not his own right to to bless us so
32:51 Abraham in Jesus they left the land they
32:53 left their father they dwelt in tents
32:54 and they died for their seed to inherit
32:56 a promise
32:58 except what Jesus did was in every way
33:01 better than what abran did and we see
33:02 the escalation of it and that's that's
33:04 the theme in typology is escalation
33:07 verse 10 there's more about him it says
33:09 for he was looking forward to the city
33:11 that has foundations whose designer and
33:14 builder is God looking forward to a city
33:18 Abraham looked to not just the land but
33:19 to the thing God was doing through all
33:24 of this this ultimate city that's going
33:26 to be made by God that he would be part
33:29 of I mean what we read about in the New
33:30 Testament is this is the New Jerusalem
33:33 ultimately and the New Jerusalem is read
33:34 about in Revelations like the
33:36 culmination is so much in the scriptures
33:39 but it's where God and man dwell
33:40 together eternally fully with no
33:43 separation and it's on the new earth
33:46 this and it comes down from heaven out
33:47 of God they're out of heaven from God I
33:49 should say and it comes down to earth
33:52 this new city Jerusalem God and man together
33:52 together
33:56 it says the designer and builder is God
33:58 in verse 10 of the new city that Abram
34:00 was looking for the designer and builder
34:03 is God now earlier in Hebrews it's it
34:05 talks about how Jesus is the builder and
34:08 Moses was part of the house you remember
34:09 this from last time we talked about
34:11 Moses to this little recap Hebrews three
34:13 see if we can catch the theme designer
34:15 builder and how it relates to Jesus he
34:17 was three verse 3 for Jesus has been
34:19 counted worthy of more glory than Moses
34:22 as much more glory as the builder of a
34:23 house has more honor than the house
34:25 itself for every house is built by
34:27 someone but the builder of all things is
34:29 God there's a deity of Christ burst if
34:31 I've ever seen one right Jesus is the
34:33 Builder of the house and the Builder of
34:39 all things God okay Hebrews 12:2 it says
34:42 that Jesus this is just after Hebrews 11
34:43 right says Jesus is the founder and
34:45 perfecter of our faith or the author and
34:51 finisher of our faith this this designer
34:55 and builder ultimately the escalation of
34:56 it right Abraham's really just looking
34:58 forward to what God's going to do he's
35:00 just a picture
35:03 God's the painter alright verse 11
35:06 Hebrews 11:11 by faith Sara herself and
35:07 we're talking about Sara
35:09 she received power to conceive even when
35:11 she was past the age since she
35:13 considered him faithful who had promised
35:15 now God had promised Abram and Sarah
35:16 that they would have a child then to be
35:18 of their own she would actually bear a
35:19 child but she was like way too old for
35:21 it she passed that season of life she
35:23 was not able to have a kid and she
35:24 trusted God I mean at one point she
35:26 laughed and then I think God corrected
35:28 her and that laughter because there's a
35:30 laughter of unbelief the mocking
35:31 laughter then there's a laughter of joy
35:33 of like oh god you're doing this like
35:35 that's a different kind of laughter
35:36 right so she names him Isaac the good
35:39 kind of laughter I think and and so she
35:42 received that rebuke she trusted God but
35:43 I asked how could Sarah be a type of
35:47 Christ well I don't think she in all
35:49 totality is I think her pregnancy is it
35:52 seemed AraC ulis birth there's a promise
35:55 child of Abraham that comes miraculously
35:59 born Jesus of course is born of a virgin
36:01 it's a miraculous birth and that's a
36:03 theme we see here in the first son of
36:05 Abraham the first son of the promise is
36:09 born miraculously and so Christ's
36:13 similarly to that verse 12 therefore
36:16 from one man Abram or Abraham depending
36:18 on where you are in Genesis and him as
36:21 good as dead were born descendants as
36:22 many as the stars of heaven and as many
36:25 as the innumerable grains of sand on the
36:29 seashore so the numbers of the children
36:30 of Abraham here are highlighted and how
36:32 does this relate to Christ I think it's
36:34 a message of the many many people who
36:36 will come to Christ can you believe how
36:39 many people have been saved now from
36:40 nations around the world through
36:42 generations and generations like it's
36:46 gonna be a crowded City well hopefully
36:48 not too crowded I really don't like I
36:53 don't want to be like Disneyland it
36:55 should be better even better than Disney
36:57 Disney World okay
37:01 it's just good but so I just see the
37:03 connection of Abraham you'll have many
37:05 many many many many offspring this is
37:07 tip illogical of Christ and the many
37:09 many many who will be saved in him and
37:11 we're children of Abraham by faith the
37:13 scripture says so this what I'm saying
37:14 here is I'm not making this up like this
37:16 is the typology we see throughout the
37:18 scripture this is just it just marries
37:20 it together you know there's there's
37:21 text that to say we're children of
37:24 Abraham by faith and so yeah
37:27 pretty cool stuff verse 13 as I'm
37:29 studying this in Hebrews 11 I was like
37:30 is it really this consistent are there really
37:31 really
37:32 TIPA logical elements throughout the
37:35 whole thing and I think that there are
37:38 or at least nearly we'll see you decide
37:41 you tell me what you think verse 13
37:45 these all died in faith now it's kind of
37:46 an inclusive statement about all the
37:47 people we talked about so far they all
37:49 died in faith not having received the
37:51 things promised but having seen them and
37:53 greeted them from afar and having
37:55 acknowledged that there were strangers
37:56 and exiles on the earth in other words
37:58 they're living in a in a place that's
37:59 not their own like Abraham Isaac Jacob
38:01 like they don't really inherit the land
38:03 they just inhabit the land waiting for
38:06 it to become in the future God's promise
38:08 fulfilled so that they'll receive it we
38:09 read about these people they're all
38:11 waiting on some future greatness and
38:14 we're seeing that the future looking
38:16 faith of the Old Testament Saints is
38:17 representing the fact that there was
38:19 something greater coming which
38:21 ultimately is Jesus and what were they
38:23 there were strangers and exiles on the
38:26 earth so what was this great thing that
38:28 they saw from afar off well they were
38:30 all promises of God you'll inherit the
38:32 land you'll have great numbers of
38:34 children I will bless those who bless
38:36 you and curse those who curse you and in
38:38 you all the nations of the earth will be
38:40 blessed all these promises they'll
38:43 relate to Jesus they all directly end up
38:45 relating to Christ so you could say
38:47 they're trusting in Christ by believing
38:49 in promises that relate to Christ I mean
38:51 how much about Abraham did about Jesus
38:54 did Abraham know he knew that in him all
38:55 the nations would be blessed and he knew
38:57 that there be an inherit since the land
38:59 and he knew some of these things but it
39:00 wasn't the full story but that was the
39:04 true Jesus so neat stuff to think about
39:06 so that's what they kind of saw from
39:10 afar off they greeted Christ so to speak
39:13 the arc of nella the sacrifice of Abel
39:15 they all relate to Jesus these Old
39:17 Testament Saints have trusting in things
39:20 that are ultimately types of Christ and
39:22 they all died in faith and so it's not
39:23 just that they died but they died
39:25 thinking of some future hope that would
39:26 happen after they died we see this
39:28 neighbor hams traveling and Isaac and
39:30 Jacob blessing their sons we'll get to
39:31 that in a minute how they bless their
39:33 sons about some great future blessing
39:34 that will come upon them so they're all
39:36 trusting in some great good thing coming
39:38 after they die and of course that
39:43 represents Jesus it says in Hebrews 12 -
39:45 looking to Jesus the founder and
39:47 perfecter of our faith who for the joy
39:49 that was set before him endured the
39:51 cross he endured the cross because of
39:54 what some great hope of some wonderful
39:56 future that would happen after he died
40:01 so these relates to Jesus strangers and
40:03 exiles on the earth they were it says as
40:05 I speak like Yoda all of a sudden for no
40:08 reason in John 18:36 jesus answered it
40:13 says my kingdom is not of this world if
40:15 my kingdom were of this world My
40:17 servants would have been fighting that I
40:18 may not be delivered over to the Jews
40:21 but my kingdom is not from this world
40:23 so Jesus living in this world as though
40:24 he doesn't belong as though he's a
40:27 stranger and so they lived like
40:30 strangers and exiles and so Christ
40:33 all right Hebrews 11 14 see how fools do
40:36 a little bit more we'll finish this up
40:38 next next week Hebrews 11 14 for people
40:42 who speak thus make it clear that they
40:44 are seeking a homeland if they'd been
40:46 thinking of that land from which they've
40:48 gone out they would have had opportunity
40:50 to return they could have you know Abram
40:51 could have gone right back to where he'd
40:54 gone he'd come from but as it is they
40:56 desire a better country that is a
40:58 heavenly one therefore God is not
40:59 ashamed to be called their God for he
41:02 has prepared for them a city so that
41:03 again this concept of a city so I think
41:05 we should actually read revelation 21
41:07 were talks about this this future City
41:10 of God that is referring to so their
41:12 desire though in the scheme of God's
41:14 like tapestry it was kind of for
41:16 something temporary I need an ark to get
41:17 through the flood
41:20 I need a land I need a child but all of
41:22 them ultimately pointed towards
41:24 Jesus Christ and so that's where their
41:28 ultimate hope is in verse 16 it says
41:29 it's a better country specifically a
41:32 heavenly one and it's a city and I I
41:33 can't help but connect that to
41:35 Revelation 21 because it's better it's a
41:38 city and it's heavenly I don't know how
41:40 many heavenly cities you know the only
41:41 one I know is the New Jerusalem in
41:45 Revelation 21 it says in Revelation 21:1
41:48 then I saw a new heaven and a new earth
41:50 for the first heaven and the first earth
41:52 had passed away and the sea was no more
41:56 and I saw the holy city New Jerusalem
41:58 but it doesn't stay up there right he
42:00 sees it and it's coming down out of
42:02 heaven from God prepared as a bride
42:04 adorned for her husband probably because
42:05 it's where the bride goes where the
42:09 bride we lived there and I heard a loud
42:11 voice from the throne saying behold the
42:14 dwelling place of God is with man this
42:15 is the ultimate culmination of God being
42:18 United to man he will dwell with them
42:19 and they will be his people and God
42:22 Himself will be with them as their God
42:25 he will wipe away every tear from their
42:27 eyes I can't help it as a positive point
42:29 out I think wiping away the tears is not
42:32 just a physical act the idea is this
42:34 whatever's causing you to cry God can
42:36 he's like taking away the need for the
42:39 tears because of the joy of the presence
42:41 of God and His goodness and his comfort
42:44 and His glory that it's like I all the
42:46 sorrows I've had and all the grief I've
42:48 had I no longer even have a reason to
42:50 cry God you have truly comforted me in
42:53 the fullest sense he wipes away every
42:55 tear from their eyes and death shall be
42:58 no more neither shall they shall there
43:00 be mourning or crying or pain any more
43:02 for the former things have passed away
43:04 and he who was seated on the throne said
43:08 behold I am making all things new also
43:11 he said write this down for these words
43:13 are trustworthy and true it's things
43:15 that we can put our hope and rely upon
43:17 that's the ultimate thing they're
43:20 looking for so here in the typology of
43:21 Hebrews 11 which i think is pretty
43:24 strong it's suggesting that these Old
43:25 Testament Saints who were looking
43:28 forward to a greater hope we're also
43:30 hoping in the ultimate revelation of
43:32 heaven the ultimate recreation of heaven
43:33 and earth which is like an earthly heavenly
43:34 heavenly
43:39 unity that happens so pretty nice stuff
43:44 alright let's let's do 417 here and make
43:46 sure that we can get as far as I want to
43:46 get okay
43:49 verse 17 this is by faith Abraham when
43:52 he was tested offered up Isaac and he
43:53 who had received the promises was in the
43:56 act of offering up his only son of whom
43:58 it was said through Isaac shall your
44:00 offspring be named the irony there is
44:02 God's like your descendants will all
44:04 come through Isaac and then in Genesis
44:06 22 and you've got to read this fresh if
44:07 you don't have it fresh in your mind in
44:09 Genesis 22 God tells him take your son
44:11 Isaac your only son and go and offer him
44:13 to me not just kill him for no reason
44:15 but as an offering like a sacrifice to
44:18 me and he takes his son he travels out
44:20 he takes Isaac Isaac carries the wood
44:22 upon his back he goes and he is ready
44:25 then laying down the altar and Abraham's
44:27 gonna slay him and he's about to do it
44:29 and in his head he's like God told me
44:33 this kid will produce all my grandkids
44:37 and I'm but God told me to slay him he's
44:39 that not an act of faith and before
44:41 you're like that's horrific like God
44:44 stops him I've heard people recount the
44:46 story and not talk about how God stops
44:47 him and how that was playing the whole time
44:48 time
44:50 he's painting a picture of Jesus through
44:52 this experience and got but Abraham's
44:53 faith is strong look how strong this
44:56 guy's faith is and and that's the whole
44:58 point of it through Isaac your offspring
44:59 shall be named in verse 18 is to
45:01 highlight the contradiction of ominous
45:02 Liam and he's supposed to have my
45:03 grandkids so then it goes on and he
45:06 interprets for us verse 19 here's the
45:09 divinely inspired explanation of this
45:12 event he considered that God was able to
45:14 even raise him from the dead from which
45:16 figuratively figuratively speaking he
45:18 did receive him back and so here he he
45:20 gets him back and he goes hey Abraham
45:22 just thought God can raise him up
45:25 Isaac's gonna have my grandkids and I'm
45:27 supposed to kill him Dodd's gonna have
45:31 to raise him back up now you might be
45:33 like but he was wrong I'll be like but
45:36 he was right about Jesus and that's what
45:37 the whole picture is about
45:42 I love Genesis 22 here's the story of
45:44 Abraham a father offering his son
45:48 specifically it says his only begotten
45:53 or his son his only son whom he loves in
45:54 fact it's the first time the word love
45:56 is used in the bible is genesis 22:2
45:58 where God says take your son your only
46:01 son Isaac whom you love and go to the
46:03 land of Moriah and offer him there was a
46:04 burnt offering on one of the mountains
46:07 of which I shall tell you and it wasn't
46:09 really his only son was it he had
46:13 another son Ishmael and gods like gods
46:14 your only son because it's painting a
46:21 whom you love because the love of the
46:24 father to the son the son was born of
46:26 miraculous meat means as we talked about
46:27 how Sarah received power by faith to
46:30 have this miraculous birth so Jesus was
46:31 born of miraculous means his virgin
46:33 birth he was the son of the promise
46:36 Isaac was the son of God's promise to
46:38 Abram but it was a bigger promise than
46:39 just Isaac it was about a later
46:41 descendant Jesus is the ultimate son of
46:43 the promise the father carries the fire
46:45 up the mountain and the knife bringing
46:48 the judgment or the or the death the son
46:51 carries the wood up of the hill the son
46:53 carries the wood the fires holding the
46:57 judgment this to me looks like the
46:59 crucifixion it was a three-day journey
47:02 from the time he left his house and so
47:03 for three days in the head of Abraham it
47:06 was like his son was dead he's committed
47:08 I'm gonna I'm gonna lose my son Lord I'm
47:10 trusting you I'm gonna lose my son and
47:11 for three days
47:15 Christ was dead till he raised and the
47:17 son submitted most people think that
47:19 Isaac was at a place where he was old
47:21 enough and his dad was certainly old
47:22 enough where he could overpower dad at
47:24 this point right like Isaac would win
47:26 the arm wrestling contest between these
47:28 two and he allows this stuff to take
47:30 place to the son it's implied is it into
47:31 a place of submission allowing the stuff
47:34 to happen he never fights a rim our
47:36 Abraham he never forces him Abraham
47:37 never forces him to do anything it seems
47:39 like he goes willingly the whole way in
47:42 John 10 17 Jesus said this for this
47:44 reason the Father loves me because I lay
47:46 down my life that I may take it up again
47:48 no one takes it from me but I lay it
47:50 down of my own accord I have authority
47:52 to lay it down and I have authority to
47:52 take it up again
47:57 this charge I've received from my father
47:59 all Isaac how was the father telling him
48:00 Isaac this is what we're gonna do
48:03 doesn't say God spoke to him he just
48:05 trusted his dad and his dad trusted God
48:12 I think this is neat but there's more in
48:14 Genesis 22 the place where Abraham goes
48:18 as Mount Moriah which is Jerusalem so
48:20 here he goes to the God makes him travel
48:21 for three days to get to the place where
48:24 Jesus will be crucified to paint this
48:26 picture the future location instead of
48:29 Isaac a ram takes his place of course
48:32 because God's not into human sacrifice
48:33 and he's just drawing a picture for us
48:37 the RAM takes his place the irony is
48:39 that Jesus Altima is the sacrifice for
48:46 Isaac and for all of us do you get the
48:48 connection I'm offering I'm gonna offer
48:51 Isaac on Mount Moriah in the fashion and
48:53 in the picture and in the way Jesus will
48:55 be offered and Jesus comes through Isaac
48:59 I think that's pretty cool God's kind of
49:04 Abraham figures there's got to be a
49:06 resurrection right he just trusts right
49:09 as he as he in fact there's it's implied
49:11 even in Genesis 22 it says then Abraham
49:13 said to his young men as they got to the
49:15 mountain he's a stay here with the
49:18 donkey to them and the boy and I both of
49:21 us will go over there and worship and
49:24 come again to you he says that the boys
49:26 coming back to again he believes he's
49:27 got to have him back from the dead as
49:29 the idea and Christ of course the whole
49:30 plan all along was for the resurrection
49:34 to take place also in Genesis 22 it's
49:38 better Abraham says that it's prophetic
49:40 but but as I read this to you ask
49:42 yourself what is what's what's prophetic
49:46 about it what is it this prophetic it
49:47 says in genesis 22:8
49:50 Abraham said God will provide himself
49:53 the lamb for a burnt offering my son so
49:54 the both of them went together that was
49:56 when Isaac's like what's where's the
49:58 offering he was God will provide
50:01 then then after the RAM shows up and
50:03 takes the place of Isaac then in Genesis
50:06 22 14 after the whole events over
50:08 Abraham called the name of that place
50:11 the Lord will provide future tense as it
50:13 is said to this day
50:17 that's when Moses is riding it 600 plus
50:19 years later he goes as it is said to
50:21 this day on the Mount of the Lord it
50:24 shall be future tents provided on the
50:26 Mount of the Lord where Mount Moriah it
50:29 shall be provided well what's the it
50:30 well the only thing we can compare that
50:32 it to is the thing that Abraham just did
50:36 with his son something like this God
50:42 will provide that gives me goosebumps
50:45 the Word of God is so amazing that the
50:47 real issue is us not noticing it
50:51 you know man he says it's prophetic it
50:53 says it says some future event like this
50:55 will happen right here and it'll be God
50:57 providing and is not Jesus the greatest
51:00 example of God providing in John 1:29
51:02 when John lays eyes on Jesus John the
51:04 Baptist he lays on eyes on Jesus I'm
51:06 sorry his name more appropriately John
51:10 the Southern Baptist I'm deserting so I
51:12 see him Toby because I know one person
51:14 out there is like well it's just a joke
51:16 John 1:29 he says the next day he saw
51:18 Jesus coming toward him and what does he
51:22 say he says behold the lamb of God who
51:24 takes away the sin of the world the
51:27 offering animal here he is he's the
51:28 ultimate lamb he's the fulfillment of
51:31 all that stuff and that's about as much
51:34 as we have time for tonight so we're
51:35 gonna pick up in verse 20 and we're
51:37 gonna look at the rest of Hebrews 11 as
51:40 it relates to being typology of Jesus
51:43 next week and I encourage you to read
51:45 ahead and just give it some thought how
51:47 could this represent Christ my goal and
51:48 I hope I'm being faithful here is to not
51:52 fabricate but to simply observe what God
51:54 has placed in the text and how he has
51:59 really saturated Scripture with Jesus
52:02 let's pray father we thank you for your
52:04 word it is exciting and it's such a
52:07 blessing to our hearts just to sit and
52:10 see the beauty and majesty of Christ
52:12 throughout the scripture as we pray that
52:14 we would not only get this passage but
52:19 that we would just have eyes to see all
52:20 the glory of Christ that you've placed
52:22 throughout the Word of God and that we
52:23 would just grow in our understanding of
52:26 Jesus grow in our trust in you
52:28 we'd be people like these examples here
52:30 we'd be people of faith people who trust
52:33 you not our circumstances we trust you
52:35 not how we feel about things who we
52:39 trust you because you are worthy of our
52:43 faith in Jesus name we pray amen [Music]
