0:01 let me know if this sounds familiar to
0:03 you cuz I'm sure it is we've all been
0:04 there you go on the golf course and you
0:06 absolutely rip the irons but you really
0:08 struggle with the driver and then the
0:09 next one you play It's the complete
0:11 opposite you're absolutely ripping the
0:14 drive you can't miss and the irons just
0:16 aren't there that day well in this video
0:17 I'm going to show you how you can fix
0:18 that how you can make sure that your
0:20 performance is as good as it can be with
0:24 irons and driver and the way we do this
0:26 might surprise you a little bit so let's
0:28 start with the iron and then we'll move
0:30 on to the driver for the purpose of this
0:32 video this is to do with actually where
0:35 you put your focus and you could even
0:37 think of this is where you actually look
0:39 relative to the ball it would make a lot
0:41 of sense that you know whether it be
0:44 iron or driver we set up and we look at
0:47 the golf ball but that can often hold so
0:48 many golfers back and I've seen some
0:50 great results with the students that
0:52 I've worked with getting them to look
0:54 places other than the golf ball so why
0:56 is this important well when we look at
0:58 the golf club and how it moves around
1:00 your body
1:02 we know that that Golf Club effectively
1:05 moves on this big circle and great
1:08 golfers position their Circle
1:10 differently relative to the golf ball
1:12 for the driver and the irons so when I'm
1:14 hitting an iron I've got myself a 7 iron
1:16 here at impact this is the key thing
1:18 about this video it's all about impact
1:20 and achieving that perfect impact my
1:23 circle needs to be the bottom of my
1:26 circle I should say needs to be in front
1:28 of the golf ball and
1:31 underground now if you can do that
1:33 you're going to get ball Turf contact
1:34 that's why we see the great players
1:36 taking divots you know they all pretty
1:38 much all of them hit the golf ball and
1:40 then the club goes into the ground so
1:43 they go ball Club then goes down into
1:44 the ground they take that divver and
1:46 what that does it enables them to hit
1:48 higher in the face it enables them to
1:50 deal off the club a little bit get more
1:52 compression on the golf ball achieve a
1:54 more efficient ball flight with more
1:55 distance it's also more consistent as
1:57 well but with the driver we don't want
2:00 that so when I take a setup with my
2:03 ion if I'm looking at the golf ball
2:05 that's my attention that's my focus then
2:07 very often what can happen is the bottom
2:11 of the circle sort of sits on the ground
2:13 and it's where the ball is and if I do
2:15 that now then we can sort of get shots
2:17 like that where I feel a little bit like
2:20 I'm stuck on my back leg it actually
2:21 wasn't a bad contact but there was
2:23 certainly no diver and the ballf flight
2:26 was really quite High quite weak and I
2:28 didn't really get the most efficiency
2:30 out of that so what about if we change
2:32 our fol and we put it in front of the
2:34 golf ball and we actually think about a
2:37 spot underground so as I set myself up
2:39 to this I'm going to be thinking about a
2:42 point probably a club head width in
2:45 front of my ball and underground what
2:46 this will do to you is it will get your
2:50 arms far more extended past the golf
2:52 ball we always see GRE players with that
2:53 position we see the elbows nice and
2:55 close and we generally would see the
2:58 lead arm and the club forming a straight
3:01 line post impact now let me go ahead and
3:02 hit one and I'm going to give you a
3:04 really simple drill to help you get the
3:07 timing of when this all should happen
3:09 okay there's the contact I want compared
3:12 to that first shot I hit ball flight was
3:14 much better I've landed the club Target
3:15 side of the ball everything felt as I
3:17 want it the strike was I I wanted it to
3:19 try it I think you'll be really
3:22 surprised at how quickly you can start
3:24 to change your ball striking how quickly
3:25 start to see the results and it's
3:27 something that you can absolutely take
3:29 on the golf course the next time you
3:31 play so here's that little drill I I
3:32 spoke about which is going to give you a
3:34 real good idea for the timing of this
3:36 take your setup 79 is absolutely perfect
3:40 grip the golf club but grip it right
3:42 down the end of the club shaft so I'm
3:44 right near the huzzle that grip is going
3:46 to go up to the left hand side of your
3:47 body and you're going to make some
3:50 little back swings and what you're
3:53 looking for here is to have the grip or
3:54 the club sha whichever is going to make
3:57 contact with your side to contact your
4:00 side after
4:03 the club has gone past the ball so as I
4:05 look at this now my club head is past
4:07 the ball and this made contact with my
4:09 side many of you will find that when you
4:10 do that little exercise maybe it's
4:12 because you're a little bit static in
4:14 your body maybe it's because you leave a
4:15 little bit of weight on that back leg
4:18 but you'll find that it will contact you
4:20 here before the club edies pass the ball
4:22 this would indicate to me that my
4:24 release is a little bit soon it would
4:25 indicate that I'm not really moving my
4:27 body as well as I could as I said in
4:29 this video the easiest way to change
4:31 that the quickest way to change that is
4:33 just change way he focuses you know if
4:34 your focus is this side of the ball
4:36 you're never going to be throwing that
4:38 club out here you're going to be
4:40 shifting more holding
4:44 longer and making all of this contact
4:46 you much much later and then what you
4:47 can do is you can go ahead and do a
4:48 couple of little rehearsals with that
4:51 same feeling and imagine that grip would hit
4:52 hit
4:56 you much much later so with the irons
4:59 don't look at the golf ball look Target
5:03 side so driver if you do the same thing
5:05 with the driver let me show you what
5:07 would happen well that's not going to
5:09 get it done in fact if you come a little
5:11 closer I don't know if you can see this
5:14 there is a divot Mark here there was a
5:16 little diot Mark there my ball has come
5:18 off the tea hit that little diver okay
5:19 because I tried to the same thing with
5:21 the driver that I did with an iron that
5:23 is not the way to get it done so if you
5:25 start to do the same thing you're going
5:26 to hit super low drives like that that
5:28 really don't give you great results or
5:30 you might even actually catch couple off
5:31 the top edge of your golf club and I'm
5:32 sure many of you if you have look at
5:34 your drive you'll have some kind of
5:36 scuff marks where the face meets the
5:38 crown and those ones go super high so
5:39 what do we do with the driver well let's
5:41 think about that Circle that circle with
5:43 an iron we said it impact wanted to be
5:46 Target side and underground definitely
5:48 don't want that with a driver we want
5:51 that Circle to be above ground and
5:53 actually behind the golf ball so the
5:55 lowest parts of my circle happens
5:59 pre-impact if that happens then the golf
6:00 closet makes contact with the ball is
6:02 starting to move away from the ground we
6:04 would call that an upward hit and if
6:05 we're looking to get that upward hit
6:08 that's why it's so important that we get
6:09 the ball
6:11 teed the correct height if you get it
6:13 teed super low the chances are you're
6:14 not going to be able to do this with a
6:16 huge amount of success so I got my ball
6:18 teed nice and high I'm going to take my
6:21 normal setup where my ball is opposite
6:24 my front heel and I actually want my
6:26 focus now to be behind the golf ball and
6:28 I would say probably the width of my
6:30 drive ahead so where the trailing edge
6:32 of my driver is that's where I would
6:35 want my focus to be now to make this a little
6:35 little
6:39 easier I find it's often advisable to
6:41 start with a club in that position so
6:42 you actually take a setup and you use
6:44 your shoulders and your upper body to
6:46 set the club some 68 Ines behind the
6:49 golf ball now if you watch out of golf
6:51 if you pay attention to social media you
6:53 may know of a player who actually does
6:54 this he's actually pretty good as well
6:56 John Ram John RAM does this with his
6:59 driver when he wants to hit High draws
7:01 many of the drivers that ra hits are
7:04 Fades and you can hit a fade with the
7:06 ball fairly low on the te but if you
7:08 want to hit High draw and this is really
7:09 where we need to get most gols working
7:12 towards we've got to get that low Point
7:13 behind the ball so what John RAM does
7:15 when he wants to hit that high draw he
7:17 takes his setup and he starts with his
7:20 Club 6 in behind the ball that's really
7:22 what I'm advising you to do here however
7:23 it's not just a case of setting the club
7:25 Behind the ball you actually have to be
7:28 looking at the ground 6 in behind the
7:30 ball and trying to get your Golf Club to
7:33 have its lowest part of its swing there
7:37 and then move up through impact now
7:39 mentally this is quite difficult because
7:41 you think just going to look at the ball
7:42 you know that makes sense doesn't it all
7:44 the shots you're going to hit you're
7:46 look at the ball so try the drive range
7:48 first you can take it the course but
7:49 what you might find is that you look six
7:51 inches behind the ball and then sort of
7:53 end the back swing into your down swing
7:55 you glance back at the ball and it kind
7:56 of can throw you out a little bit so it
7:58 does take a little bit of practice and
7:59 it just takes a bit of commitment but
8:01 trust me if you can do this with irons
8:03 and driver I think you're going to get
8:06 some pretty pretty spectacular
8:09 results exactly what I called I've
8:11 actually slightly overdrawn it that
8:14 should be left rough but it's part five
8:15 I'm going to take that still got a
8:17 chance of degreeing so you want to
8:19 improve your ball striking don't
8:20 actually look at the golf ball look in
8:23 front with the irons behind with the driver
