0:05 me say a few words about some of the
0:07 lies and distortions that President
0:09 Trump made last night in his State of
0:12 the Union speech. And do not worry,
0:14 unlike Trump, I'm not going to go on for
0:18 an hour and 47 minutes. A lot shorter
0:19 than that.
0:21 Last night, as you recall, President
0:24 Trump stated, quote, "Members of
0:27 Congress and my fellow Americans, our
0:31 nation is back. bigger, better, richer,
0:33 and stronger than ever before." End
0:36 quote. Well, I do have to admit that
0:40 Trump got it half right. He and his
0:43 billionaire friends are indeed richer
0:46 than ever before. Since he has been
0:48 president, as a result of an
0:51 unprecedented level of kleptocracy,
0:55 Trump's family is now $4 billion
0:58 wealthier than before he was elected.
1:01 Not to mention the $400 million plane
1:03 that he got as a gift from the royal
1:07 family of Qatar. Further, the
1:11 billionaire class as a whole is doing
1:15 unbelievably well under Trump.
1:17 Since his election, billionaires have
1:19 seen a $1.5
1:23 trillion increase in their wealth. That
1:26 is rather extraordinary.
1:29 The result, we now have more income and
1:32 wealth inequality than at any time in
1:36 the history of our nation. But while the
1:39 richest people are doing extraordinarily
1:43 well, surprise, surprise, here is what
1:47 Trump did not talk about.
1:51 Today in America, over 60% of our people
1:54 are living paycheck to paycheck with
1:56 millions of Americans struggling to put
1:59 food on the table, pay for housing, pay
2:02 for health care, pay for child care, pay
2:04 for education, and pay for the other
2:08 basic necessities of life. 60%
2:10 of our people living paycheck to
2:13 paycheck. Trump just forgot to talk
2:16 about that. In America today, over 20
2:18 million households are spending more
2:21 than half of their limited incomes on
2:25 housing and nearly 800,000 are homeless.
2:29 In America today, 21% of our seniors are
2:32 trying to survive on less than $15,000
2:35 a year. Try doing that. Try surviving on
2:38 $15,000 a year. And nearly half of older
2:41 workers have nothing in retirement
2:44 savings. In America today, hundreds of
2:46 thousands of bright young people cannot
2:48 afford to go to college and over 40
2:51 million are struggling with outrageous
2:54 levels of student debt. In America
2:57 today, we have one of the highest rates
2:59 of childhood poverty of almost any major
3:03 country on earth. Now, if that is the
3:06 booming economy, the greatest economy in
3:09 the history of humanity, if that's what
3:13 Trump is talking about, God help us.
3:16 Further, on another issue, Trump said
3:19 last night that he wants to quote, "Stop
3:21 illegal aliens and others who are
3:24 unpermitted persons from voting in our
3:28 sacred American elections. that cheating
3:31 is rampant. End of quote, says Donald Trump.
3:33 Trump.
3:36 For a start, I do find it interesting
3:38 that Trump talks about our sacred
3:41 elections. This is the same man who
3:44 after the 2020 election was caught on
3:47 the phone pressuring Georgia's Secretary
3:51 of State to quote find 11,780
3:54 votes, end quote, so he could overturn
3:57 the result. I guess that election in
3:59 Georgia was not too sacred. This is the
4:02 same man who provoked a violent
4:07 insurrection on January 6th, 2021
4:09 in order to overturn an election that he
4:12 lost and to stay in power. And despite
4:15 more than 60 court cases to the
4:18 contrary, he continues to claim that he
4:21 won the 2020 election and that it was
4:24 stolen from him.
4:26 This man who claims that our elections
4:29 are sacred has still not said that he
4:33 won't run for a third term despite the
4:37 fact that it is blatantly
4:38 unconstitutional. The constitution
4:42 limits individuals to two terms.
4:44 But here is the truth about our elections.
4:46 elections.
4:50 Despite 154 million Americans in 50
4:53 states voting in the last election,
4:55 election fraud in our country is
4:58 extremely rare. Even the Conservative
5:01 ProTrump Heritage Foundation's database
5:04 of election crimes listed only 24
5:08 instances of non-citizens voting in US
5:14 elections from 2003 to 2023.
5:16 Hundreds of millions of voters in a
5:19 21-year period,
5:22 24 instances of non-citizens voting.
5:27 That is not exactly a crisis. But that
5:31 big lie that millions and zillions of
5:34 undocumented people are voting, that big
5:38 lie is the foundation of the SAVE Act.
5:40 Legislation that would effectively
5:44 require every American to produce a
5:47 passport or birth certificate to
5:49 register to vote. So I just stop a
5:52 moment. Do you have a passport? Some of
5:54 you do. Many of you don't. Do you have
5:56 your birth certificate? Frankly, I
5:57 don't. How are you going to get that
5:58 birth certificate? Well, if you don't
6:00 have a passport, you don't have a birth
6:01 certificate, you ain't going to be
6:04 registered to vote. That would
6:06 disenfranchise millions and millions of
6:09 people. It would disenfranchise millions
6:13 of women who change their last names
6:15 after marriage and whose documents no
6:18 longer match, as well as millions of
6:21 other Americans who simply do not have a
6:24 passport or a birth certificate.
6:26 And then there is the issue of immigration
6:27 immigration
6:30 that Trump talked about last night where
6:33 he bragged and I quote, "We are
6:36 deporting illegal alien criminals from
6:38 our country at record numbers and we're
6:41 getting them the hell out of here fast."
6:44 End quote. Well,
6:46 not quite the truth. The reality is that
6:50 less than 14% of those arrested by ICE
6:53 in Trump's first year back in office had
6:58 violent criminal records. 86%
6:59 did not.
7:02 But the truth is, as we have seen on our
7:06 TV screens, is that ICE is occupying and
7:09 terrorizing American cities, rounding up
7:12 American citizens and asylum seekers,
7:15 kicking down doors without due process,
7:17 sending 5-year-old children to detention
7:20 centers, and illegally deporting people
7:23 to countries to which they have never
7:26 ever been. horrifically.
7:28 We also saw the videos of ICE and Border
7:31 Patrol agents murdering Renee Good and
7:35 Alexander Petty in cold blood.
7:38 Last night, President Trump said that he
7:42 is working to drive health care costs
7:46 way down. Well, could have fooled me.
7:49 Trump's so-called big beautiful bill is
7:53 throwing 15 million Americans, lowincome
7:55 and workingclass people off the health
7:59 care they have through a $1 trillion cut
8:01 to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
8:04 By the way, the purpose of that cut is
8:06 to provide a trillion dollars in tax
8:09 breaks to the 1%.
8:11 This year, as a result of Trump's
8:14 actions, health insurance premiums have
8:17 doubled have doubled on average for 20
8:19 million Americans in the Affordable Care
8:23 Act. Now, that's a pretty strange way to
8:26 be driving health care prices down and
8:29 improving healthcare.
8:31 Last night, Trump also claimed that he
8:34 is ending the wildly inflated cost of
8:37 prescription drugs like has never
8:41 happened before. end of quote. Well, not
8:43 quite. This year, the pharmaceutical
8:44 industry announced that it would be
8:48 increasing increasing prices on over 850
8:50 prescription drugs in America. And
8:54 despite what Trump says, we still pay by
8:56 far the highest prices in the world for
8:58 prescription drugs.
9:02 Let me conclude by saying this. The
9:04 American people increasingly understand
9:07 that Donald Trump is a pathological liar
9:09 who represents the interest of the
9:13 billionaire class and who is rapidly
9:15 moving our country toward authoritarianism.
9:17 authoritarianism.
9:20 The American people also understand that
9:22 when we stand together and not let Trump
9:25 and his friends divide us up, and we saw
9:27 this in Minnesota, and we're seeing this
9:30 in states all over this country, when we
9:32 do that, we can and will create the
9:37 nation we know we can become, and that
9:39 is a country based on the principles of freedom,
9:41 freedom,
9:44 justice, and democracy.
