0:30 tour today [Music]
0:42 [Music]
0:43 hey welcome to the waterborne mission
0:45 zone or the wmz
0:47 this is where we launch an 11 meter
0:50 small boat out of the back of the ship
0:52 uh the back door will open the ramp will
0:54 go down and then we'll launch the rim
0:58 uh we can use those for vvss teams
1:01 for counter drug operations or pirate
1:03 operations throughout the world
1:06 right behind me we have a picture of the
1:07 beautiful city
1:10 indianapolis and then we have a main
1:12 motto of the navy that says
1:27 never give up your ship
1:30 this is the messex this is where the
1:31 enlisted crew eats
1:33 there's approximately 50 people that eat
1:41 on domestics
1:43 welcome to mission control center i'm
1:44 chief operations specialist dave simmons
1:45 i'm originally from
1:47 canton georgia and i'm going to give you
1:48 a little bit about what uh we do here inside
1:49 inside
1:53 mcc normally we send a uh
1:55 three personnel watch in here we have
1:56 our tactical actions officer which has
1:58 the weapons release authority
2:00 uh on board the ship we have our force
2:02 net supervisor who's in control of the uh
2:03 uh
2:05 air tracks as well as making sure that
2:06 we can uh send tactical uh
2:08 information off board ship we also have
2:10 our defensive systems operator also
2:12 known as the dso that's in charge of our
2:13 cram as well as our
2:15 alex system which is our trap that we
2:17 have on board
2:19 the consoles that you will see behind me
2:20 the four consoles are reserved for our
2:22 mission package so
2:24 we have a my mission package that we're
2:25 slated to have
2:26 and when we have those up and running
2:28 we'll be operating various missions from
2:30 the consoles that you see behind me
2:31 there's also two more consoles that we
2:33 have in here uh on the side that's
2:35 reserved for our fire scout
2:37 so we'll have people that are that are
2:39 pilots being able to take care of uh
2:40 the mission from these consoles over
2:42 here uh lastly the last console that we
2:43 have is the mark 110
2:45 directly behind me the mark 110 is uh
2:47 you control the 57 millimeter that we
2:48 have on
2:53 we also have the ability to control
2:55 optical sight from there and
3:04 uh vid contacts as we're going about
3:06 morning i'm gm 1 stabinow behind me is
3:07 the mark 110
3:10 beaufort 57 millimeter gun lcs 17 ship
3:12 main battery
3:14 it is a 57 millimeter naval weapon
3:16 system designed for a surface and air combat
3:16 combat
3:20 shoots 220 rounds a minute a magazine
3:21 capacity of 120 rounds
3:24 fires approximately out to 18 000 yards
3:25 we use the weapon for
3:28 surface defense air defense as a backup
3:29 to see ram
3:31 offensive measures and defensive
3:34 measures for the ship
3:35 each round comes out of the barrel at
3:38 approximately 3 000 rounds per second
3:40 and the projectiles themselves are five
3:41 about five pounds
3:44 and each one holds 2400 tungsten pellets
3:46 so inside here behind me is the weapon
3:47 system itself
3:54 this is what the 57 millimeter rounds
3:56 look like it's fixed gun ammunition
3:58 projectile on the front and the casing
4:04 the weapon system has three magazine
4:06 setups you have the gun magazines that
4:07 hold 20 rounds apiece
4:09 the cassettes that hold 20 rounds a
4:11 piece and then the intermediate mags below
4:12 below
4:13 and the weapon system gets all the
4:15 rounds they're feeding from below inside
4:17 the magazine up the round hoist
4:19 rammed into the cassette and the weapon
4:21 system loads from 77 degrees of elevation
4:22 elevation
4:24 loads comes back down on target and
4:42 welcome to the greatest pilot house in
4:43 the fleet
4:45 we have three watch standers on the
4:46 bridge uh we have the
4:49 rco the rco is in charge of the main
4:51 propulsion system
4:53 and the auxiliary system ship has over
4:54 100 000 horsepower
4:58 and we can go 40 plus knots so the rco
4:59 has a lot of responsibilities compared to
5:00 to
5:01 other warships other warships also have
5:03 about 11 watt centers that are in the
5:04 pilot house
5:07 we only have three so in the front left
5:08 seat we have the
5:09 junior office of the deck the junior
5:11 offside deck is the forceful backup for
5:13 the oed
5:15 they use the voyage management system
5:16 which is electronic
5:18 charging system and they also use the cameras
5:19 cameras
5:21 which we have over 80 of them and all
5:23 the spaces on board the ship
5:25 on the right seat we have the office of
5:27 the deck the offset deck is in charge of
5:29 driving the ship
5:31 and they relay all reports to the
5:32 commanding officer so the commanding
5:34 officer can get some sleep
5:36 we're a lot different than legacy ships
5:38 we have steerable buckets
5:40 and we have boost jets so it's kind of
5:41 like a jet ski
5:44 the ship reaches speeds of over 44
5:47 knots we can do that for approximately
5:49 16 hours
5:51 we're the most maneuverable ship in the
5:52 entire fleet
5:54 we can spin around in a circle from one
5:56 pivot point
5:57 or we could drive around the buoy with
5:59 our bow there
6:01 the ship does amazing things that no
6:18 [Music] so
6:21 so
6:23 welcome to the flight deck this is where
6:25 we land both civilian and military aircraft
6:26 aircraft
6:29 we land the mh-60 on board
6:33 their mission is for sar they can do
6:36 counter drug operations they can do uh
6:40 pirate operations we can both launch
6:43 uh fire scout which is a drone we can
6:46 also launch six-wing drones from the
6:48 flight deck and recover them
6:50 thank you for taking this virtual tour
6:52 onboard uss indianapolis
7:03 the greatest ship in the fleet you
