0:03 passages from the word as we consider
0:07 tonight the resurrection of Jesus
0:12 Christ the first is 1 Corinthians chap
0:15 15: 12-
0:20 20 and then the second will be John
0:30 18 1 Corinthians 15:12 now if Christ we
0:32 preach that he rose from the
0:35 dead how say some among you that there
0:38 is no resurrection of the
0:41 dead but if there be no resurrection of
0:43 the dead then is Christ not
0:46 risen and if Christ be not risen then is
0:49 our preaching Vain and your faith is also
0:50 also
0:53 vain yay and we are found false
0:56 Witnesses of God because we have
0:58 testified of God that he raised up
1:01 Christ whom he raised not up if so be
1:03 that the dead rise
1:06 not for if the dead rise not then is not
1:09 Christ raised and if Christ be not
1:13 raised your faith is vain ye are yet in your
1:14 your
1:17 sins then they also who are fallen
1:20 asleep in Christ are perished if in this
1:24 life only we have hope in Christ we are
1:26 of all men most
1:29 miserable but now is Christ risen from
1:32 the dead dead and become the first
1:34 fruits of them that
1:38 slept John chap
1:43 10 verses 17 and 18 our Lord
1:46 speaks therefore doth my father love
1:50 me because I lay down my life that I
1:52 might take it
1:56 again no man taketh it from me but I lay
2:01 it down of myself I have power to lay it
2:04 down and I have power to take it
2:09 again this commandment have I received
2:11 of my
2:14 father the greatest Miracle our Lord
2:17 ever performed when he was here on Earth
2:20 was his own
2:23 Resurrection now he had raised other
2:26 people from the dead but they died
2:30 again gyrus his daughter died
2:32 that young man in
2:38 na died Lazarus died but our Lord Jesus
2:41 Christ was raised from the dead never to die
2:43 die
2:46 again death has no more dominion over
2:50 him he lives by the power of an endless
2:54 life but the beautiful thing is this Not
2:57 only was he raised from the dead never
3:00 to die again but he raised raised
3:03 himself from the dead while he was
3:11 Miracle now the resurrection of Jesus
3:13 Christ is
3:17 bound with the witness of the
3:20 church because of the resurrection of
3:22 Jesus Christ we have a whole new people
3:24 on the Earth the
3:27 church we have a new day the Lord's day
3:30 for centuries God's people the Jews had
3:35 celebrated the Sabbath day but now God's
3:37 people the church celebrate the Lord's
3:40 day we have a new book the New
3:42 Testament we have a new hope the coming
3:46 of our Lord Jesus Christ to take us home
3:48 and so the witness of the church and the
3:52 Walk of the church are bound together in
3:54 the resurrection of Jesus Christ Paul
3:56 makes this very clear in 1 Corinthians
3:59 15 therefore we had better understand the
4:01 the
4:03 resurrection if the life that you
4:06 possess is Resurrection
4:09 Life if the gospel that we preach is the
4:11 gospel of the Resurrection Christ died
4:13 for our sins according to the scriptures
4:15 he was buried and he arose again
4:17 according to the
4:19 scriptures then everything we preach and
4:21 everything we practice and everything we
4:25 believe is tied into the
4:28 resurrection we'd better understand it I
4:30 think the best way for us to understand
4:33 it is to look at it from three different
4:35 viewpoints first of all let's look at
4:37 the resurrection of Jesus Christ
4:40 historically what are the
4:42 facts then let's look at the
4:45 resurrection of Jesus Christ
4:48 prophetically he arose again according
4:49 to the scriptures that means the
4:51 scriptures of the Old
4:53 Testament and then finally let's look at
4:55 the resurrection of Jesus Christ
4:59 practically what difference does it make
5:03 that Jesus Christ arose from the dead
5:04 first of
5:07 all the resurrection of Jesus Christ
5:09 Christ
5:12 historically from the very
5:16 beginning the enemies of the
5:21 Lord denied and fought the truth of the
5:23 Resurrection now the story is given to
5:25 us in Matthew CH
5:29 28 and a familiar story it is when the
5:32 Roman guards discovered that their dead
5:33 prisoner was
5:36 gone how much more embarrassed could people
5:37 people
5:40 be it's understandable that we could
5:43 lose a living prisoner but here they are
5:45 guarding a tomb can you imagine them
5:47 going back to their barracks and
5:49 Reporting we lost our
5:51 prisoner well who was your prisoner a dead
5:52 dead
5:56 man that's embarrassing in
5:59 fact they could have been killed for it
6:03 it when a Roman soldier is put on a
6:06 commission he is to fulfill that
6:08 commission you remember when the guards
6:11 couldn't find the Apostle Peter in Acts
6:15 12 those guards were taken out and
6:18 slain well the word got back that um the
6:19 body was
6:23 gone verse 11 of Matthew 28 now when
6:27 they were going behold some of the Guard
6:30 came into the City and showed unto the
6:32 chief priests all the things that were
6:34 done and when they were assembled with
6:37 the elders and had taken counsel they
6:40 gave much money unto the soldiers saying
6:43 say ye his disciples came by night and
6:46 stole him away while we slept and if
6:48 this come to the governor's ears we will
6:51 persuade him and secure you and so they
6:53 took the money and did as they were
6:56 taught and this saying is commonly
6:59 reported among the Jews until this day
7:01 you see the first lie about the
7:04 resurrection is that the body was
7:08 stolen now let's just U step aside from
7:10 the Bible for just a
7:15 moment and think about this lie
7:18 logically if his body were
7:21 stolen it was taken either by his
7:27 enemies if it was taken by his friends
7:33 would they
7:37 dare to approach a Roman guard would
7:40 they dare to break a Roman seal and
7:43 furthermore they didn't even believe in the
7:45 the
7:47 resurrection you must remember that the
7:50 Apostles of the Lord did not believe
7:53 they had forgotten what the Jews
7:55 remembered remember the leaders of the
7:58 Jewish people said we remember that this
8:00 deceiver said
8:02 in 3 days I'll rise again the apostles
8:05 didn't remember that they did not expect
8:07 the Lord Jesus to be raised from the
8:10 dead and so if his friends took his body
8:13 how did they do
8:17 it if his enemies took his body why did
8:19 they do it the very thing they were
8:22 trying to prevent was The Disappearance
8:25 of the body of Jesus Christ they posted
8:27 that guard to make sure the body would
8:30 not be stolen and so in argument like
8:32 this our Lord's body was stolen simply
8:33 is not
8:38 logical if his friends took the body
8:43 how if his enemies took the body why if
8:45 his enemies took the body why didn't
8:48 they bring the body forth and say look
8:52 you telling that he's alive here's his
8:56 body of course the second lie that men
8:58 have been telling about the resurrection
9:00 is this that our our Lord did not really
9:02 arise from the dead but the disciples
9:05 had Visions they just thought they saw
9:08 him and they saw him in sort of a
9:11 spiritual way well as I've mentioned to
9:14 you the disciples did not expect to see
9:16 the Lord Jesus now there have been cases
9:19 in history where someone has lost a
9:22 loved one and those Left Behind have
9:25 been so wrapped up in that loved one
9:27 that they have had
9:29 hallucinations there have been times
9:34 when people in mourning and grief
9:36 abnormally have slipped over the line
9:39 just a little bit and they've thought
9:42 they've seen the one that they loved but
9:45 you must remember first of all that they
9:49 did not expect to see Jesus secondly
9:52 when they saw him they weren't even sure
9:55 he had to prove himself to them thirdly
9:59 over 500 people at one time saw him now
10:01 I can understand one or two people
10:03 having hallucinations but
10:06 500 it just doesn't make sense
10:08 furthermore the
10:12 greatest argument against this Vision
10:15 theory is Saul of
10:18 Tarsus if anyone believed that Jesus
10:20 Christ was dead it was Saul of Tarsus in
10:22 fact he was arresting people to prove
10:25 that this was true and yet he saw the
10:27 Lord Jesus
10:30 Christ who art thou Lord I am Jesus whom
10:32 thou persecutest what wil thou have me
10:34 to do arise go into the City and it
10:37 shall be told thee what Thou shalt do
10:41 and Paul gave his life because he knew
10:43 that Jesus was alive you can't explain
10:45 the resurrection of Christ and the basis
10:49 of hallucinations or visions a third lie
10:52 is that they went to the wrong
10:56 tomb I heard about a preacher and I've
10:58 always feared that this would someday
11:00 happen to me but thank God it hasn't I
11:02 heard about a preacher who got to a
11:06 cemetery for a committal service and
11:07 there were two other funerals in the
11:10 cemetery and he got to the wrong
11:13 grave very embarrassing he found himself
11:15 there and he was supposed to bury
11:17 somebody that he didn't even know who it
11:19 was because he got into the wrong line
11:23 somewhere in the funeral procession that
11:25 would be embarrassing I had a pastor
11:26 friend who had a double wedding one
11:28 night and almost married the wrong woman
11:30 to the wrong
11:33 man that would be
11:36 embarrassing they say well the disciples
11:38 went to the wrong tomb if they'd gone to
11:40 the right tomb they would have found but
11:42 they went to the wrong tomb and it was
11:45 empty now can you imagine these these dear
11:46 dear
11:50 women who love the Lord Jesus going to
11:52 the wrong tomb in the first place this
11:54 tomb belonged to Joseph of
11:58 arthea it's my conviction that Joseph
12:00 prepared this new Tomb for the Lord
12:03 Jesus not for himself but for Jesus when
12:06 our Lord was taken off the
12:09 cross Joseph and Nicodemus were all set
12:12 to bury him how did they know when he
12:14 died they were in that Garden at that
12:17 tomb waiting for him to die they had all
12:19 the spices ready you're not going to go
12:21 out in Passover season and buy 100 PB of
12:23 spices just like
12:26 that they were all ready they knew where
12:28 the tomb was the women knew where the
12:29 tomb was
12:32 they saw where he had been laid and they
12:35 were prepared to come back to finish the
12:37 embalming of the body no you can't say
12:41 they went to the wrong tomb that is U
12:42 that's a
12:45 lie of course the usual argument is that
12:49 our Lord Jesus Christ did not die he
12:52 swooned he merely swooned on the cross
12:53 when they took him down from the cross
12:56 and put him into the cool tomb he
12:58 awakened and came forth and they said
13:00 he's raised from the dead well we have
13:01 all kinds of problems with that number
13:04 one no body came off of a cross until it
13:06 was dead in fact they tested the bodies
13:08 to prove they were
13:11 dead remember they broke the legs of the
13:14 bodies of the uh two thieves to hasten
13:16 their death when they came to the Lord
13:19 Jesus they did not break his legs
13:25 dead now usually they broke the legs of
13:27 people on the cross but the Old
13:29 Testament scriptures said not a bone of
13:32 him shall be broken and so they did not
13:34 do what they were supposed to do break
13:36 his bones and they did what they weren't
13:38 supposed to do they stabbed his side and
13:40 that was scriptural they shall look upon
13:42 me whom they have
13:46 pierced our lord Jesus was dead when he
13:48 came from the cross they made sure of
13:50 this in fact pilate when he got word
13:52 from Nicodemus that he wanted to have
13:54 the body said is he dead already they
13:56 checked and he
13:59 was but if putting a
14:02 crucified person into a cool
14:05 tomb will do for him what it did for
14:15 tomb because when my Lord appeared to
14:22 doors he appeared here and then he
14:25 disappeared and he was over
14:28 here and there was a Radiance and a
14:31 glory about him no he was in a glorified
14:34 body he wasn't someone who had
14:37 swooned I can imagine what a person
14:40 would look like taken from a cross
14:42 resuscitated not resurrected but
14:45 resuscitated he certainly wouldn't act
14:47 the way Jesus act he'd need six months
14:49 in a retirement home someplace to get
14:53 well no our Lord came forth raised from
14:56 the dead you see the historical evidence
14:59 is so obvious for the resurrection of
15:02 Christ This is why people reject it we
15:04 have witnesses who didn't even believe
15:07 in the resurrection who attested to it
15:10 Thomas wasn't sure about it Saul of
15:13 Tarsus was against it we have the empty
15:16 tomb and the grave clo we have the
15:19 changed behavior of the disciples how do you
15:20 you explain
15:22 explain
15:26 cowering cringing Peter who stands
15:29 before thousands of Jews and said you
15:32 denied the Holy One and the just
15:35 one that's what Peter himself had
15:38 done how do you explain the fact that
15:39 here we have a group of people who
15:41 willingly gave their
15:44 lives for the Lord Jesus people don't
15:47 give their lives for somebody who's dead
15:49 they give their lives for someone they
15:52 know is alive who has changed their
15:55 lives we have the conversion of the
15:58 Apostle Paul we have the growth of the
16:01 church we have the conversion of Sinners
16:03 today every time you have the joy of
16:06 leading someone to Jesus Christ you are
16:10 saying he's alive every every time a
16:14 sinner comes to the Savior it's evidence
16:15 that our savior is
16:18 alive I don't know when our liberal
16:20 friends are going to quit trying but for
16:22 centuries they've been trying to
16:25 disprove the resurrection of Jesus
16:28 Christ and you know what they can't succeed
16:30 succeed
16:33 he's alive the record is clear the
16:37 Witnesses are true he's alive of course
16:39 you and I don't need a course in
16:42 apologetics to prove the resurrection of
16:45 Christ we sang today you ask me how I
16:49 know he lives he lives within my
16:52 heart let's look now at the resurrection
16:54 of Jesus Christ
16:57 prophetically you see the gospel
17:01 recorded in 1 Corinthians 15
17:04 says I delivered unto you first of all
17:07 or of first importance that which also I
17:09 receive that Christ died for our sins
17:11 according to the scriptures now we have
17:14 no problem with that the Old Testament
17:16 scriptures talk about the death of
17:20 Christ all the way from Genesis 3:15 to Zechariah
17:22 Zechariah
17:25 13 all the way through the Old Testament
17:28 the bloodline is there and so when the
17:30 scriptures say says Christ died for our
17:33 sins according to the scriptures we have
17:37 no problem you can lead people to Christ
17:39 from the Old Testament
17:42 scriptures then it goes on to say and
17:43 that he was
17:46 buried and that he rose again the third
17:48 day according to the
17:51 scriptures and here Paul is saying the
17:54 Old Testament scriptures I wonder how
17:55 many of us tonight could prove the
17:58 resurrection of Christ from the old
18:01 Testament scriptures now we have the
18:03 record in Matthew
18:07 28 we have the record in Mark and Luke
18:10 and John it's mentioned in Acts it's
18:12 mentioned in many of the New Testament
18:15 letters the resurrection is there how
18:18 about the Old Testament well once again
18:20 the New Testament helps us here we're
18:22 going to look at old and new together so
18:26 get your Bibles before you Psalm
18:31 2 Psalm 2 and having found Psalm 2 you
18:33 will find acts
18:36 13 now you ought to note these verses
18:38 because someday somebody's going to ask
18:40 you you might have the privilege of
18:42 witnessing to someone who says I believe
18:44 the Old Testament but I'm not so sure
18:47 about the new Psalm
18:50 2 now the second Psalm as you know is um
18:53 a prophetic Psalm having to do with the
18:55 Lord Jesus Christ the
18:59 King in verses 1 2 and 3 you have the
19:00 voice of the
19:04 Nations a voice of rebellion then in
19:07 Verses 4 5 and six you have the voice of
19:10 God the father he that sth in the heaven
19:13 shall laugh I have set my king upon my
19:16 Holy Hill of Zion then in verses 7 8
19:19 and9 you have the voice of God the son
19:21 and then in verses 10 11 and 12 the
19:24 voice of God the Holy Spirit saying to
19:27 the world be wise serve the Lord and
19:29 kiss the son trust him
19:31 now look at the words of the Lord Jesus
19:34 in verse 7 of Psalm 2 he is speaking and
19:37 he says I will declare the
19:41 decree the Lord that's God the Father
19:44 hath said unto me God the son Thou Art my
19:45 my
19:49 son this day have I begotten thee now we
19:51 would read this and say well it's
19:53 talking about when the Lord was born but
19:55 that's not what he's saying this day
19:59 have I begotten thee does not refer to
20:01 his birth in Bethlehem but to his
20:05 resurrection acts chap 13 the Apostle
20:07 Paul is preaching in
20:10 Antioch and verse 32 he comes now to the
20:13 conclusion of his message and we declare
20:17 unto you good news Glad Tidings how the
20:20 promise which was made unto the fathers
20:23 God hath fulfilled the same unto us
20:27 their children in that he hath raised up
20:29 Jesus again
20:31 as it is written in the 2 Psalm Thou Art
20:36 my son this day have I begotten Thee the
20:39 Lord Jesus Christ was begotten in the
20:43 Virgin womb of Mary to be born into this
20:46 world but his resurrection from the
20:50 Virgin tomb of Joseph of arthea brought
20:54 him forth into glory and power when he
20:57 was begotten and born in Bethlehem it
21:00 was as a baby in weakness but when he
21:03 was begotten and born from that
21:06 Resurrection tomb it was in power and
21:09 great glory and so Psalm
21:13 2:7 promises the resurrection now you're
21:16 in the Psalms and so turn to Psalm 16
21:18 and keep your place in Acts
21:27 David verse
21:32 8 I have set the lord always before me
21:34 because he is at my right hand I shall
21:37 not be moved therefore my heart is glad
21:42 and my glory rejoiceth My Flesh also
21:45 shall Rest In Hope now it's good to have
21:48 a glad heart but it's also good to know
21:49 that God's going to do something for
21:52 your body My Flesh also shall Rest In
21:56 Hope for thou wil not leave my soul in
21:58 now King James tells us hell the word
22:01 there is shol the realm of the Dead thou
22:05 Wilt not leave my soul in shol neither
22:08 wilt thou permit thine Holy One to see
22:12 corruption now back in Psalm
22:17 13 verse uh 34 and 35 and as concerning
22:20 that he raised him up from the dead now
22:23 no more to return to corruption he said
22:27 in this way and here he quotes from
22:30 Isaiah I will give you the sure mercies
22:33 of David wherefore he saith also in
22:36 another Psalm Thou shalt not allow thine
22:40 Holy One to see corruption for David
22:42 after he had served his own Generation
22:44 by the will of God fell asleep and was
22:47 laid unto his fathers and saw corruption
22:49 but he whom God raised again saw no
22:52 corruption now Peter preached this same
22:54 message back at
22:56 Pentecost acts chap
22:59 2 and verse well
23:01 well
23:04 23 him being delivered by the
23:06 determinant counsel and for knowledge of
23:09 God ye have taken and by Wicked hands
23:13 have crucified and slain whom God hath
23:17 raised up having Loos the Pains of death
23:19 because it was not possible that he
23:23 should be held by it for David speaketh
23:26 concerning him and here's psalm 16 I
23:30 foresaw the lord always before my face
23:32 he is on my right hand that I should not
23:35 be moved therefore did my heart rejoice
23:38 and my tongue was glad moreover My Flesh
23:41 also shall Rest In Hope for thou wil not
23:45 leave my soul in Hades or shol the realm
23:48 of the Dead neither wil thou allow thine
23:52 Holy One to see corruption now verse 29
23:54 men and Brethren let me freely speak
23:56 unto you of the patriarch David that he
23:59 is both dead and buried and his Seiler
24:02 is with us unto this day therefore being
24:04 a prophet not just a psalmist but a
24:06 prophet and knowing that God had sworn
24:08 with an oath to him that of the fruit of
24:11 his loins according to the flesh he
24:13 would raise up Christ to sit on his
24:17 throne he seeing this before spoke of
24:21 the resurrection of Christ that his soul
24:24 was not left in Hades neither his flesh
24:27 did see corruption this Jesus hath God
24:32 raised up whereof we all are
24:42 110 in Psalm 110 which is a Messianic
24:44 Psalm of the priesthood of our Lord
24:50 one the
24:54 Lord capital L capital O capital r
24:59 capital D Jehovah God the Father the
25:04 Lord said unto my Lord God the son sit
25:09 thou at my right hand until I make thine
25:11 enemies thy foot
25:15 stol well back to Acts chapter
25:20 2 verse 34 for David is not ascended
25:23 into the heavens but he sayth himself
25:27 the Lord said unto my Lord sit thou on
25:31 my right hand until I make thy foes thy
25:34 foottoo so from three of the Psalms
25:36 we're able to find and we could look at
25:40 other passages the resurrection of Jesus
25:43 Christ now not only does the prophet
25:46 give us the resurrection of Christ in
25:49 statement but the prophet gives us the
25:51 resurrection of Christ in
25:54 type there are types of the resurrection
25:57 of Christ in the Old Testament I'll take
25:59 two of them because they're very
26:01 familiar one of them is the cleansing of
26:04 the leper when a leper had been cleansed
26:07 of his sin he came to the priest priest
26:10 came to him and he examined him to see
26:12 that he was clean and then the leper had
26:14 to go out and get two
26:17 birds and an earn
26:21 jar and some hsip and some scarlet and
26:23 the priest in the leper went outside the
26:27 camp to a running stream of clear water
26:29 and they did a strange thing
26:31 they took the little bird and pushed it
26:34 into the jar over the running water then
26:37 took a knife and killed the
26:40 bird then took the blood of that bird
26:42 and put it on the other bird and turned
26:47 the bird loose you've got here death
26:49 Resurrection Birds belong up in heaven
26:51 when you take a bird and stuff it into a
26:54 clay jar that's that's not right at
26:57 Bethlehem our lord Jesus came down from
26:58 heaven and stuffed him himself into a
27:01 clay jar he took about himself a body
27:04 and in that body he was slain but he
27:06 arose again the blood was sprinkled on
27:08 the other bird and the bird was turned
27:15 resurrection of course the great picture
27:17 of Resurrection in the Old Testament is
27:21 Jonah our lord said this as
27:24 Jonah was in the belly of the great fish
27:26 three days and three nights even so must
27:30 the son of man be in the heart of the
27:33 earth and that's where the three days
27:35 come in he was buried he arose again the
27:36 third day according to the scriptures
27:42 Jonah I was with Dr Jay Vernon McGee in
27:44 a conference some months ago and he was
27:47 teaching Jonah and in his own inimitable
27:49 way he got into the pulpit and he said a
27:51 lady came to me and said she didn't like
27:54 that I was teaching Jonah because there
27:56 are no women in
27:59 Jonah and Dr McGee said to her well we
28:08 whale well this we are sure
28:14 of that Jonah is a type of the Lord
28:17 Jesus the Lord Jesus Christ said
28:21 so and when Jonah went down down down in
28:24 three days and three nights it was death burial
28:25 burial
28:28 Resurrection many Bible students believe
28:30 Jonah actually died and was raised from
28:34 the dead but be that as it may in type
28:37 down into death up into Resurrection
28:41 after three days and three nights and so
28:43 the Old Testament scriptures give us the
28:47 picture of the Resurrection in Prophecy
28:49 and in type one final type the first
28:53 fruits we read in First Corinthians 15
28:55 but now is Christ risen from the dead
28:57 and has become the first fruits of them
28:59 that slept we who live in the city don't
29:01 worry about first
29:06 fruits but the Jewish people had Harvest
29:11 festivals and the day following the
29:14 Sabbath day after
29:18 Passover the priest went out into the
29:21 field and he cut some of the Grain and
29:25 he wave those sheep before God in
29:30 dedication to him now on my calendar the
29:32 day after the Sabbath is the first day
29:34 of the
29:38 week Sabbath day being the seventh day
29:40 six days shalt thou labor the seventh
29:41 day shalt thou rest don't ever call
29:43 Sunday school Sabbath School unless you
29:45 meet on
29:47 Saturday don't ever call Lord's Day
29:50 Services Sabbath Services unless you
29:52 meet on Saturday it's the Lord's Day the
29:55 Sabbath typifies salvation by works you
29:58 work for 6 days then you rest the Lord's
30:01 Day typifies salvation by grace you come
30:04 to him on the first day and then you go
30:10 work and the first fruits were offered
30:11 to the
30:15 Lord on the first day of the
30:18 week the third
30:21 day now let's consider the resurrection
30:23 of Jesus Christ practically and this is
30:26 the important part of it and to make it
30:28 very easy we're going to look at one
30:30 book and one book only turn to the Book of
30:34 Romans The Book of Romans if there is
30:38 one book that you want to know and know
30:41 thoroughly it's the book of Romans The
30:44 Book of Romans is the great doctrinal
30:46 apology of the
30:49 church Book of Romans was not written to
30:51 tell unsaved people how to get saved it
30:52 does that it was written to tell
30:55 Christians how they did get saved if you
30:56 understand the book of Romans you'll
30:59 understand the work and the plan of God
31:02 now what is the Practical meaning to us
31:05 today of the Resurrection you believe in
31:06 the resurrection of Jesus Christ you
31:08 have no problems with it but now what
31:09 does it
31:13 mean it means first of all that Jesus
31:14 Christ is
31:16 God Romans
31:21 1 Paul a servant of Jesus Christ called
31:25 an apostle separated unto the gospel of
31:29 God which he had promised before By His
31:31 prophets in the Holy scriptures
31:36 concerning his son Jesus Christ Our
31:40 Lord who was made of the seed of David
31:41 according to the flesh
31:43 flesh
31:47 physically and declared to be the Son of
31:50 God with power according to the spirit
31:53 of Holiness by the resurrection from the
31:57 dead the resurrection of Jesus Christ is
31:59 the good Good Housekeeping seal of
32:08 God now for a Jew like
32:11 Paul to call Jesus Christ
32:13 Christ
32:16 Lord as he does in verse three is
32:20 testimony of our Lord's deity that word
32:24 Lord means Jehovah God you'll notice in
32:27 verse one it's the gospel of God in
32:31 verse 9 it's the gospel of his son in
32:34 verse 16 it's the gospel of Christ now
32:37 if it's the gospel of God and the gospel
32:40 of his son and the gospel of Christ I
32:42 learned in algebra class things that are
32:44 equal to the same things are equal to
32:48 each other you can substitute Gospel of
32:52 God gospel of Christ gospel of his son
32:55 which means Christ is God how do we know
32:58 it the resurrection that's what Peter
32:59 preached at
33:02 Pentecost don't do it now but when you
33:04 have some time read Peter's message at
33:07 Pentecost and be amazed he does not
33:10 preach the
33:13 cross he preaches the
33:16 resurrection these Jews knew that Jesus
33:20 died Peter doesn't get up and say Christ
33:22 died for your sins according to the
33:25 scriptures that is in
33:29 there but his basic message was he's
33:31 alive he's
33:35 alive and this proves he is God and so
33:37 the next time a magazine salesman comes
33:40 to your front door or someone stops you
33:42 on the street or in O'Hare
33:45 Field and says to you oh yes we believe
33:49 he's the son of God but not
33:52 God the Resurrection comes along and
34:02 that's Romans chapter 1 now Romans
34:06 chapter 4 not only is he God but he is the
34:07 the
34:10 savior Romans
34:19 25 well verse 23 now it was not written
34:22 for his sake alone that is Abraham's
34:25 sake that this righteousness was imputed
34:28 to him but for us also to whom it shall
34:31 be imputed if we believe on him that
34:35 raised up Jesus our lord from the dead
34:40 Jesus who was delivered for our offences
34:46 and was raised again on account of our
34:49 justification not only is Jesus Christ
34:54 Our Lord and God but he is our savior
34:55 now follow this
34:58 closely Paul is not saying that God
35:01 raised him from the dead that we might be
35:02 be
35:05 justified he is saying the fact that we
35:09 have been Justified is proved because he
35:10 raised him from the
35:13 dead now what is
35:15 justification justification is the act
35:19 of God whereby he declares the believing
35:22 sinner righteous in
35:25 Christ here is an
35:28 unbelieving Lost Sinner who who comes
35:31 and says I believe in Jesus I receive
35:34 him as my savior and the instant he does
35:37 that God the father says I declare you
35:39 righteous in
35:41 Christ now how do we know that
35:43 justification is
35:46 true because God raised him from the
35:50 dead verse 25 Jesus was delivered on the
35:53 cross on account of our offenses why did
35:56 he die because of our offenses why was
35:58 he raised from the dead because he had
36:01 accomplished our justification in other
36:03 words the resurrection of Jesus Christ
36:05 was God's
36:07 receipt the next time the Devil comes to
36:10 you and says you aren't saved you aren't
36:14 saved why the things you say and do how
36:18 can you call yourself a Justified
36:21 person you just say
36:23 Satan go look at the empty
36:27 tomb take a trip to the Holy Land
36:35 trip the empty tomb is evidence that God
36:39 accepted the sacrifice of Jesus Christ
36:42 and we are now
36:44 Justified that's an encouragement when
36:46 you have a headache and you're not
36:49 feeling good and the Devil comes along
36:51 and throws all kinds of darts at
36:54 you just flee to the empty
36:57 tomb and say he's not there he's not
37:00 there there he's up in heaven that means
37:02 God has accepted him and I've accepted
37:04 Christ therefore God's accepted me
37:11 savior Romans chapter
37:14 6 not only is he God and savior but he
37:21 sanctifier Romans 6:4 therefore we are
37:24 buried with him by baptism into death
37:28 this is the baptism of the Holy Spirit
37:30 when you trusted Christ as your savior
37:35 the Holy Spirit baptized you identified
37:36 you made you a part of the body of
37:40 Christ that like as Christ was raised up
37:43 from the dead by the glory of the father
37:47 even so we also should walk in newness
37:51 of Life the whole theme of Romans 6 is
37:54 get out of the graveyard you have been
37:57 buried with Christ you've been raised to
38:06 sanctifier as I said this morning the
38:08 Christian life is not imitation it's
38:13 Incarnation Christ liveth in me that's
38:16 why in Romans 6 he says look yield the
38:19 members of your body to be instruments
38:21 of righteousness when you get up in the
38:23 morning give him your body say Lord
38:24 you're living within me now take every
38:27 part of my body my mind my will my heart
38:30 here I am take me and live out your life
38:33 through me he won't bypass you he'll
38:34 work through your mind and through your
38:36 heart and through your will and through
38:39 your body and we grow together and go
38:42 together and glow
38:45 together he is the sanctifier because he
38:46 was raised from the
38:52 dead verse 34 of Romans 8 it gets better
38:53 and someone is probably saying I hope it
38:57 gets quicker Romans 8:34
39:00 the resurrection says he is God the
39:03 resurrection says he is the savior the
39:06 justifier the resurrection says he is
39:08 the sanctifier and praise God the
39:11 resurrection says he is the intercessor Romans
39:12 Romans
39:16 8:34 who is he that condemneth there are
39:19 lots of people who would you've been
39:22 condemned did any mother or father ever
39:23 say to a kid boy you should don't act
39:25 like a
39:27 Christian or Worse did some kids ever
39:29 say to mother or dad man if you're a Christian
39:34 huh lots of people could condemn the
39:35 devil could
39:38 condemn he's the accuser of the Brethren
39:41 who is he that condemneth it is Christ
39:45 that died yay rather that is risen again
39:48 who is even at the right hand of God who
39:51 also maketh intercession for us that
39:54 word also means the holy spirit's making
39:56 intercession he mentions that back previously
39:57 previously
40:00 he's alive he's in heaven this is his
40:03 unfinished work now his finished work
40:05 was on the
40:09 cross father the hour is come glorify
40:11 thou me with the glory which I had with
40:15 thee before the world was I have
40:16 finished the work which thou gavest me
40:20 to do on the cross he finished his work
40:22 justification now he's gone back to
40:24 Heaven he has an unfinished work what's
40:26 that intercession what's intercession
40:29 mean he represents
40:31 you he represents you up in
40:34 heaven you know I I would feel badly if
40:36 I were to go down to preach in a rescue
40:39 mission and have to walk up to somebody
40:42 whose life has been wrecked by sin and
40:45 say buddy I've got a great message for
40:51 out now some people preach that
40:53 way they preach that boy you get saved
40:55 you trust Christ but after you're saved
40:57 it's up to you man you've got to keep
40:59 yourself going not according to Romans
41:02 8:34 you've got an intercessor up in
41:03 heaven now this means two things and
41:05 I'll just mention them quickly number
41:08 one he is our high priest to keep us
41:11 from sinning boy when we are tempted and
41:14 and the World the Flesh and the devil
41:16 assail us we can come to him and say I'm
41:18 coming to the throne of grace give me
41:21 some Grace give me some mercy and he
41:23 understands and says here it is as my
41:25 high priest he keeps me from sinning but
41:29 suppose I sin
41:30 then he is my
41:33 Advocate 1 John Chapter 2 My Little
41:35 Children these things right I unto you
41:38 that you sin not but if any man sin we
41:40 have an advocate with the father Jesus
41:42 Christ the righteous and if we confess
41:44 our sins he's faithful and just to
41:46 forgive us our sins and so he intercedes
41:49 for you my friend to keep you from
41:51 sinning but if you do sin to bring you
41:53 back into Fellowship again that's why
41:55 nobody can
41:58 condemn the resurrection says you're
42:01 saved forever you have an intercessor up
42:13 14:9 his resurrection proves that he
42:15 is Lord not just
42:18 God not just savior
42:23 Lord Romans 149 for to this end Christ
42:27 both died and Rose and revived
42:33 that he might be Lord both of the
42:38 dead and the living verse 11 as I live
42:41 sayth the Lord every knee shall bow to
42:44 me and every tongue shall confess to God
42:46 so then every one of us shall give
42:48 account of himself to God you see the
42:50 problem he's writing about here is they
42:52 were all giving account of each
42:55 other the strong Christians were
42:56 condemning the weak Christians and the
42:58 weak Christians were criticizing the
43:00 strong Christians and the people who ate
43:02 pork were laughing at the folks who
43:04 wouldn't eat
43:07 pork the church was divided and Paul
43:10 says to the whole crowd now just a
43:14 minute he is Lord and if he's Lord of
43:18 your life you haven't got time to be
43:19 judging other
43:23 people if he's Lord of your life you
43:25 come to him and say Lord what wil thou
43:30 have me to do Jesus Christ is Lord and
43:32 my friend if you and I won't bow to him
43:36 today we will bow to him one
43:38 day we could bow before him today and
43:43 say king of my life I Crown thee now
43:46 thine shall the glory be be thou the
43:48 Lord of my
43:52 life and oh what a difference it makes
43:55 when he's the Lord of your mind and you
43:57 have the mind of Christ
44:00 when he's the Lord of your tongue and
44:03 you speak the word of Christ when he's
44:05 the Lord of your ears and you hear the
44:07 voice of Christ when he's the Lord of
44:10 your feet and you walk in the way of
44:12 Christ when he's the Lord of your hands
44:14 and you do the work of Christ when he's
44:17 the Lord of your heart and you share the
44:19 love of Christ when he's the Lord of
44:21 your eyes and you see the glory of
44:23 Christ it makes all the difference in
44:26 the world when he's
44:28 Lord but if he isn't
44:31 Lord then we bungle through life like
44:34 blind people walking around not knowing
44:36 where we're going and we miss so much
44:39 make him the
44:42 Lord finally Acts chapter
44:45 17 just a closing word to our dear
44:48 unsaved friends who may be here tonight
44:50 to those of us who are Christians the
44:54 resurrection means he is God he is
44:58 Savior and sanctifier as and intercessor and
45:00 and
45:03 Lord in Acts chapter 17 Paul is
45:08 preaching to the philosophers in
45:11 Greece and he comes to the conclusion of
45:15 his message in verse
45:21 30 and the times of this ignorance God
45:23 overlooked but
45:27 now commandeth all men every everywhere
45:32 to repent notice the verb he does not
45:36 suggest he does not invite he does
45:44 commands and other words repentance is
45:47 something God commands God commands all
45:51 people everywhere repent repent of what
45:53 repent of sin what sin the sin of
45:57 rejecting Christ
45:59 my friend if you have not obeyed that
46:01 commandment and repented and trusted
46:04 Jesus Christ you are a rebel against the
46:11 universe because now he gives the reason
46:13 for it why should we repent because he
46:15 has appointed a
46:20 day in which he will judge the world in
46:24 righteousness by that man whom he hath
46:27 ordained he's appointed a day he's
46:29 ordained a
46:32 judge oh how do we know this is going to
46:35 happen concerning which he hath given
46:39 Assurance unto all men in that he hath
46:42 raised him from the dead the
46:45 resurrection of Jesus Christ is God's
46:49 announcement to a rebellious world he is
46:59 can you remember the first evangelist
47:03 you ever heard preach I can and the
47:05 little church I grew up in not too far
47:06 from here down in north in
47:09 Indiana when I was just a little TI I
47:12 guess I was maybe six or seven or 8
47:14 years old they had an evangelist I'd
47:16 never heard an evangelist before I'd
47:19 heard preachers but never an
47:22 evangelist I can't tell you what he said
47:25 except one story that he told and I'm
47:27 sure the Lord used that story story some
47:29 point in my life eventually to bring me
47:37 story he told about a little country
47:39 town where
47:44 um some horses were connected were
47:46 hitched up to a wagon and in the wagon
47:47 was a little
47:50 boy and some smart alec came by and
47:52 whipped up these horses and away they
47:53 went and here was a little boy in the
47:55 wagon of course he was going to be
47:58 killed but a man man came out and he ran
48:01 down these horses and he stopped them
48:03 and saved the boy's
48:05 life years
48:09 later this boy became a
48:11 criminal and he was
48:14 arrested he was brought before the
48:16 judge and found
48:18 guilty and the
48:21 judge had to give the sentence and the
48:25 boy looked up and said I know
48:30 you the judge said uh yes I know you boy
48:31 said you know you're you're the fellow
48:34 when I was a little kid you you saved my
48:37 life well how can you send me to prison
48:43 life and the man very quietly answered and
48:49 said Son back
49:03 guilty I've never forgotten that story
49:05 and you know it's
49:07 true today the Lord Jesus says to you
49:14 savior but tomorrow he may say to
49:21 judge he has commanded all men
49:35 Christ father I pray that here tonight
49:37 any who have never trusted the Savior
49:38 will do
49:42 so Open Hearts to your word and your
49:47 son I pray in jesus' name and for his
49:50 sake would you keep your heads bowed
49:53 please and your eyes
49:57 closed Just In This Moment of quiet as
50:00 the spirit of God speaks to hearts are
50:02 there those here
50:05 tonight who will honestly say Pastor
50:08 worby I am not saved or I'm not really
50:11 sure whether I'm saved but I'd like to
50:14 be saved please pray for me would you
50:16 just slip your hand up and put it down
50:17 we're not going to embarrass you or
50:20 laugh at you we're not going to come
50:21 back and button hole you I want to pray
50:23 for you just keep it up until I see it
50:25 and then put it down anyone at all God
50:27 bless you thank you
50:29 are there some others
50:33 now just pray for me here is my hand I'm
50:34 not saved or I'm not really sure whether I'm
50:36 I'm
50:38 saved but I want you to pray for me
50:47 else yes I see your hand back there
50:51 thank you very much someone
50:55 else no pressure just prayer anyone else now
51:03 I need
51:12 savior gracious
51:15 father I pray now for these who lifted their
51:16 their
51:19 hand you know their
51:21 needs you know their
51:23 hearts and I pray that they might come
51:27 to trust Christ as their savior
51:30 to give their hearts to him and perhaps
51:32 others who did not lift their hands
51:35 might come and give their hearts to
51:38 Christ and so accomplish your will in
51:41 this invitation time for jesus' sake I pray
51:43 pray
