0:10 ground all right hello YouTube Welcome
0:11 Back to the gree comom YouTube channel
0:14 today's video we're going to be picking
0:16 up on another retrospective over the
0:18 last few months I did A Feast for Crows
0:20 and as much as I enjoy doing that book I
0:22 wanted to do a dance of dragons as well
0:24 as it is the closest book to a wins of
0:27 winner it's also a book that I think is
0:29 interesting to study given when it was
0:31 released than that were going on during
0:33 this point why is this relas so
0:35 interesting given the context of the
0:36 book and how you may look at it
0:38 differently if you put it into the
0:40 context of George ARA Martin and his
0:43 writing style the its release day in
0:45 terms of when was the last time we had
0:47 seen these characters why does the story
0:50 format in a certain way especially early
0:53 on and so let's take a look at A Dance
0:55 with Dragons a dance of dragons came out
0:58 on July 12th
1:01 2011 about six years after the release
1:04 of A Feast for Crows and 11 years past A
1:07 Storm of Swords so in a lot of regards
1:09 we had not seen characters like Daenerys
1:13 Jon Snow Tyrion Davos bran a lot of our
1:15 major characters that we had come to
1:17 love for 11 years and when you put that
1:20 into context think about it like this us
1:22 waiting for Winds of winner right now is
1:25 a comparative length of time of reading
1:27 those certain characters right so again
1:28 it's a bit different because Feast for
1:29 Crows came in that time so we still had
1:31 a song about inire content but your
1:33 favorite character more than likely
1:36 probably was not in the last book so you
1:37 hadn't actually seen your best
1:40 characters your favorite characters in a
1:41 very long time at this point when this
1:44 book was coming out so let's also think
1:47 about it from this point of view and so
1:48 I want you guys to think about this if
1:51 you are A Song of Ice and Fire fan
1:53 within a couple months of each other
1:55 during the first season of a Game of
1:57 Thrones as it would premiere on April 17th
1:58 17th
2:01 2011 and would broadcast the entire
2:03 first season getting to the release of A
2:06 Dance with Dragons so A Dance with
2:09 Dragons in a lot of ways was on a high
2:12 right because people were reinvigorated
2:13 to get back into the favorite characters
2:16 but also Game of Thrones it's popularity
2:18 now it it wouldn't reach its popularity
2:20 in the first season but it would Garner
2:22 a lot of that interest back what the
2:24 first season is by loved by many people
2:26 it's one of the best seasons of the show
2:27 and so it really would have drawn all
2:29 those fans that were still waiting for
2:32 Series right back into this series and
2:34 so A Dance with Dragons had a lot of
2:36 hype around it in my opinion now was I
2:38 someone that was reading this book in
2:41 2011 no I was 11 years old so I would
2:42 not have been reading this when it came
2:44 out but I want to think about it from
2:48 this point of view of Danny Tyrion JN
2:50 are back three main characters are back
2:52 Game of Thrones season 1 has just come
2:54 out along with the rest of the series
2:56 it's going to be coming out as well it
2:58 was well received the first season in
3:01 this regard everything was looking
3:03 really up and so we get into a dance
3:06 dragons and that leads us to does this
3:09 book pay that off right is this a good
3:11 book is this a bad book what is this
3:13 book and when we get into this
3:15 retrospective I'm going to talk about it
3:17 in a lot of ways this book has a lot of
3:20 UPS it has a lot of downs right it's
3:22 almost the polar opposite of A Feast for
3:24 Crows in its structure A Feast for Crows
3:27 has a lot more more minor characters it
3:29 has a lot more of the plot lines in the
3:31 background that were happening almost
3:33 off screen or building up to offscreen
3:35 and Storm of Swords and then they kind
3:37 of explode in A Feast for Crows there's
3:39 a lot of reactionary things that happen
3:40 because of things that happened to Storm
3:42 of Swords A Dance with Dragons is almost
3:45 no different but think about the
3:46 comparison between a dance dragons and
3:48 Winds of Winter the beginning of this
3:50 story in a dance of dragons is going to
3:53 be a lot about reminding the audience
3:55 what happened right it's been 11 years
3:57 since we've touched a lot of these plots
3:59 but that'll get us into the first
4:02 chapter chapter of the book with
4:06 verir now I will say right away I think
4:09 of the five openings of the main books
4:12 this is my least favorite it is a lot of
4:14 and why I say that is because in my
4:18 opinion it does the least in terms of
4:20 the entire world like when you look at
4:23 Pate Pate is a really interesting POV
4:26 into our first look at Oldtown he is
4:28 going to connect to a bunch of different
4:29 plot lines whether that be Ario whether
4:32 that be Sam whether that connects to
4:34 Future stuff with like marwin and things
4:36 like that he also gives us kind of a
4:39 fresh perspective the common person and
4:41 how the corruption of this world Works
4:43 which I find very interesting and also
4:45 going on that really awesome idea of the
4:49 heart and conflict this is not that this
4:52 is very much a POV that is focused
4:55 solely on really one uh plotline in this
4:58 book You could argue two but I would say
5:00 it's it's really just for br bran and
5:02 this is a very interesting way to start
5:03 out a book if you look at all of the
5:07 main povs that people do not like bran
5:11 is by far the least entertaining POV I
5:14 think for most people and so starting
5:16 out a POV with or starting out the book
5:17 with a POV that is directly correlating with
5:18 with
5:22 bran is interesting and so to me I don't
5:23 like it too much because it's just
5:25 straight up it's it's warging right how
5:27 does warging work in this world from
5:29 somebody that's other than bran we
5:31 haven't seen warging too much in this
5:33 world when it comes to how does it work
5:35 what is its powers what are the rules to
5:37 it and so a lot of this is setting up
5:39 bran it really think makes us think
5:41 about bran quite a lot and how we think
5:42 about the character because when you
5:45 think about what you shouldn't be doing
5:47 right as your
5:49 animal it really relates to bran because
5:52 we've seen bran take the mind of another
5:55 human in Hodor that's a big no no we're
5:58 going to see bran eating man's flesh
6:00 through a wolf
6:02 kind of a no no once again so there's a
6:04 lot of no no that we're seeing through
6:06 bran so this chapter makes us in a lot
6:08 of ways recontextualize the way we think
6:11 about a character like bran but let me
6:13 talk about a little bit of brief summary
6:14 of what happens in the chapter so we're
6:16 introduced into this character of vamir
6:19 who is a skin changer like bran but just
6:22 a very powerful one and he is fleeing
6:25 the battle of the wall this is taken up
6:27 directly after um Stannis had come
6:30 through and won the battle for the
6:34 wall we see the rest of the wildlings
6:35 that had survived and how they were
6:39 falling back some were going to the East
6:41 and some were just dying off right these
6:43 are people that you know struggling to
6:46 find food struggling to find warmth and
6:48 it's a lot about this desperation verir
6:51 trying to live on and it's seeing that
6:54 again the others are still a huge threat
6:55 Northern the wall and really
6:57 establishing why the wildlings came
6:59 South to kind of begin with and again
7:02 personally it's just a it's almost a
7:04 reminder chapter for the John plot line
7:08 but it's a big plot it's a big POV to
7:10 setup brand and it does it pretty well
7:13 like I I won't say like this chapter
7:15 does well for what it's trying to do I
7:17 just don't like what it's really trying
7:18 to do that much I think there's a lot of
7:20 other povs that would have been more
7:22 interesting to start this book with
7:24 other than verir and so to me personally
7:26 I was not a big fan to the way this book
7:29 starts now I will say another thing I
7:31 want to mention here because when I
7:34 looked at A Feast for Crows I think
7:37 George R Martin took a step back and
7:39 realized some of the issues people had
7:41 with A Feast for Crows because one of
7:43 the things I talked about with A Feast
7:44 for Crows that's so different than this
7:47 book is going to be is A Feast for Crows
7:49 George AR Martin takes a lot of leaps he
7:51 kind of front-loads a lot of the newer
7:53 plots right the gry joy plot and the
7:56 Martell plot are almost completely front
7:59 loaded into the first half of the book
8:00 and so when you look at that book the
8:03 way it starts it's you know you have
8:05 Pate you have I think it's Aeron is
8:07 second and then Aroda you have three you
8:11 know newer povs povs people are just not
8:12 going to care as much as about until you
8:16 get to Cersei who is chapter 4 this book
8:17 does not do that this book jumps right
8:19 into the characters that people were
8:21 wanting to read and it starts in
8:23 probably the best way I think everyone
8:25 wanted to see what Tyrion was going to
8:27 be up to after that stuff that happens
8:29 to Storm of Swords how is he going to
8:30 affected as a character what is this
8:31 plot going to be looking like as The
8:34 Story Goes forward and so we get to
8:37 Tyrion 1 as the second chapter of the
8:39 book and I think Preston Jacobs sums up
8:41 this chapter perfectly in a lot of ways
8:44 it is just a catch-up chapter trying to
8:46 remind us what happened in the last book
8:48 and now catching that up to how is that
8:50 affecting Tyrion now we've see Tyrion as
8:52 this character that's he's defeated in a
8:54 lot of ways he's gone straight to
8:57 alcoholism he is questioning if he even
8:59 wants to be alive at this point of the
9:02 the story it's a really interesting
9:04 psychological dive into what Tyrion is
9:06 going to experience in this chapter and
9:08 Tyrion is a character that I think is a
9:10 tale of two
9:13 stories I think I really like him in the
9:14 first half of the book and the second
9:17 half of the book He's not so good I like
9:18 Tyrion when he's interacting with
9:20 characters that are interesting to the
9:23 story that can either outwit Tyrion or
9:25 make Tyrion use his wits or have some
9:27 bigger relevance to the plot and so
9:31 seeing Tyrion try to figure out what ay
9:34 omop pat' motivations are is quite
9:36 interesting because we as the readers
9:38 also don't know what ayo's motivations
9:41 are again remember the last time we
9:45 really see Ayo is in the first book with
9:47 Arya and so we've heard about Ayo here
9:50 and there right we know that barriston
9:53 was sent to Danny through the help of
9:56 AIO but we don't know what game alyo is
9:57 playing at this point right because the
10:00 plan doesn't really go well right the
10:01 doth Rak you're supposed to come over
10:04 with the targaryens and start a war
10:07 right but that is kind of a first
10:09 suspicion here in this chapter it's
10:12 already brought up like why is allo
10:14 helping Dany and it just isn't for
10:15 profits and Tyrion kind of notices that
10:18 so I like the back and forth between the
10:21 two characters but again this chapter is
10:23 pretty dark it's a lot of Tyrion dealing
10:25 with his trauma drinking himself nearly
10:28 to death and being as pessimistic and
10:29 awful as possible whether that's
10:32 interacting with t uh ao's servants
10:35 whether that's interacting with Alo as
10:36 well whether that's Ty interacting with
10:38 himself the way he kind of Beats him up
10:40 or things like that all of this makes
10:42 perfect sense to the psychology of
10:44 Tyrion and I know a lot of people have a
10:47 issue with the way Tyrion is in this
10:49 book but it's completely natural it's
10:51 the way Tyrion should be as a character
10:55 and so that old Tyrion which again was
10:56 still Tyrion right Tyrion is still
10:58 Tyrion it's just because of the events
11:00 that that have happened he has leaned
11:02 into that darker side of Tyrion that's
11:05 always been there alt shift alt shift X
11:07 makes a really good video on the real
11:09 Tyrion Lannister and one of the things
11:11 he really talks about that is he looks
11:12 back at a lot of the moments of
11:14 especially at Clash of Kings and some of
11:15 the things that Tyrion did that were
11:17 quite awful whereas us the audience
11:19 rooting for Tyrion but they are quite
11:22 awful things he leans into more of those
11:25 things especially in this
11:28 book again I I noted here that I think a
11:29 lot of people dread
11:31 Tyrion in some of his earlier chapters
11:33 because it is a lot of a recap but I
11:36 personally really do enjoy Tyrion 1 and
11:39 two and even again I like Tyrion really
11:41 from here all to the young Griff stuff
11:42 and so I don't have really a big problem
11:46 with Tyrion at this part of the um book
11:47 I also do like again him playing the
11:50 game of thrones with AO and also I also
11:51 like the reveal at the end of Tyrion
11:54 going to Danny which again was obvious
11:56 like I feel like anyone real reading
11:58 Tyrion or even let's go back in time
12:00 let's say after Storm of Swords There
12:02 Was You Know YouTube wasn't really a big
12:05 thing then but if there was I think if
12:07 people would have been making prediction
12:08 videos it would have been obvious that
12:10 Tyrion was going to help Danny that
12:11 would have been an obvious prediction so
12:14 this isn't like this huge big reveal but
12:15 it is something that George needed to
12:17 establish right give Tyrion that Focus
12:19 right the big focuses of this book for
12:22 Tyrion are going to be getting to Dany
12:25 and two his character right is he going
12:28 to lean further further into that darker
12:29 side of Tyrion
12:31 or will he find some sort of atonement
12:34 will he find some sort of uh higher
12:36 purpose to bring him out of that state
12:38 and that's really what Tyrion one is all about
12:40 about
12:43 again that gets us into the third
12:47 chapter of the book Danny one so again
12:49 Danny one is another one of these
12:50 chapters that it's really a lot of a
12:53 catchup but I will say this just really
12:55 goes to prove that George does listen to
12:58 feedback he does understand what things
12:59 people don't like in previous books and
13:02 is willing to adjust accordingly because
13:04 think about it the first four chapters
13:07 of this book are verir which again it's
13:08 the first chapter of the book you knew
13:10 it was going to be a different POV right
13:12 so you give him a pass there but then
13:17 two three and four are Dany Ty or are
13:20 Tyrion Danny and John the three povs
13:22 everybody wanted to see and so I think
13:25 that is not a coincidence George
13:27 understood what he wanted to do and I
13:28 want to get this out of the way right
13:30 away because very similar to Tyrion is
13:33 that Dany has a stigma especially for
13:35 this book that she's just pretty met in
13:38 this book and I can see where that is
13:41 coming from but personally I do like
13:44 Dany in this book I think she goes on a
13:46 different journey and puts her and
13:48 George puts her in a very uncomfortable
13:51 situation whereas Dany her whole life
13:53 after book one has kind of been this
13:56 conqueror this person that is trying to
13:58 gain power then to go to westros and we
13:59 have this big reveal in book three that
14:00 she's not going to do that right she's
14:04 going to try and Rule and so she's going
14:06 to struggle with that she's never ruled
14:08 anything before even back in you know
14:10 book one or book two or all these things
14:14 she's not exactly ruling over a place
14:16 right the doth raki yes she has some
14:19 sway over Drogo but she's not the person
14:21 in charge of everyone right that is
14:24 still Drogo here it is her she is the
14:26 one making the decision she is the one
14:29 that if the society fails it's on on her
14:31 and so she's dealing with a lot of
14:32 different things and so George sets this
14:35 up all perfectly in this first chapter
14:37 because we have to see what is Danny's
14:40 goal of this book what is George going
14:42 to do in this book for the character and
14:46 so we have first we have the sons of the
14:48 harpy creating issues for Danny and this
14:51 is very interesting right away because
14:53 in the past Danny has gone against other
14:56 forces right in battles and sieges but
14:59 she's never fought a war of of a Shadow
15:00 War more or less of people being killed
15:03 in the streets how do you find these
15:05 people what motivates people to give you
15:07 information to track them down and kill
15:09 them or imprison them Danny has never
15:11 had to deal with that and that's going
15:12 to be something that's very relevant to
15:14 this book for her as a
15:16 character but again we see that an
15:18 unsolid man has been killed it is
15:20 interesting because we see that Danny's
15:23 rule is far from secure and establishes
15:25 right away the central theme of her Arc
15:27 how to rule something that she has not
15:29 really done before
15:31 right how is she going to deal with
15:33 different personalities like resn and
15:37 the shave Pate how is she going to deal
15:38 with a culture that's very different
15:40 from her own we have seen her integrated
15:43 into other cultures like the dothi but
15:45 she's struggling with the ways of the
15:48 Marines the Marines are slaver people
15:50 that was built upon their roots or the
15:53 the past you know hundred years or so
15:57 how do you change an an entire society's
15:59 culture in a blink an eye how do you how
16:01 do you do that right because if you even
16:04 think about again I'm American so I like
16:05 to reference United States history quite
16:08 a lot how do you go from a point of
16:11 Slavery to everyone being free how does
16:13 that work how do you get groups of
16:15 people that have been against each other
16:16 for a long time to reconcile and
16:19 integrate into that culture and we're
16:21 still seeing some of those divides even
16:24 now but going into the story think about
16:25 that it's very difficult because you
16:27 have some people who might have had a
16:28 better life in slavery even though
16:31 slavery is an evil they themselves
16:34 benefited from slavery which is an
16:35 interesting dilemma for Danny to
16:38 overcome because Deanie realizes and us
16:39 the audience agree with Deanie that
16:42 slavery is bad but what do you do when
16:44 someone tells you they would rather be
16:46 enslaved it's an interesting dilemma
16:48 that Danny is had going to have to go
16:50 through in this book but what this
16:53 chapter does is set her up for the
16:55 future how is Danny going to deal with
16:58 personalities like the s or their and
17:00 Littlefinger things that Robert had to
17:03 do this is really a lot of that Prelude
17:04 to what Danny will have to deal with in
17:06 Westeros and it's a lot of kind of that
17:08 training it's it's a building book for
17:11 Dany but we see her sitting the throne
17:14 giving advice to multiple people or on
17:16 issues like the Yun Kai in the fighting
17:18 pits and eventually ends with Danny's
17:22 worst fear her dragons killing a child
17:23 again this is great because it plays
17:25 exactly on what Danny is gonna have to
17:27 overcome outside of all the politics
17:29 going on her trying to rule she also
17:30 attempts to deal with her dragons her
17:32 dragons are getting bigger they're
17:35 growing more fearless and violent what
17:36 does she do with that and we're not
17:37 going to figure out what she does
17:39 instantly that's going to come in the
17:42 next chapter but it poses an interesting
17:44 question for Danny is she still in
17:47 control of them obviously not because
17:49 they've killed a child at this point
17:51 something that de's not really had to
17:53 worry about up to this point she has to
17:56 now realize how dangerous they are and
17:58 that is a really awesome way to build
18:00 the Danny's chapter I think Danny's
18:01 first chapter is obviously better than
18:04 Tyrion Danny's is more focused it's it's
18:07 not about as much as like figuring out
18:09 when telling on what happened in the
18:12 past and how that works now but her
18:14 chapter is not as much a catchup chapter
18:16 it's still is but it kind of gets right
18:18 to the point it really focuses on
18:20 exactly what her POV is going to be
18:22 about whether you like that or you don't
18:25 like what her POV is about in this book
18:26 I like that George is direct with this
18:28 character and we understand right away
18:30 there's no Dilly dallying about what her
18:32 POV is about all right so getting into
18:35 John one John one I I think is very
18:38 similar in a lot of ways to Danny one
18:40 it's really about exploring again what
18:42 happened in the past so where are we at
18:44 this point of the story but also it's
18:46 about just establishing where this
18:48 character of Jon is going to be right
18:50 this chapter follows Jon dealing with
18:52 Stannis and the issues of trying to
18:54 please a king who saved them while also
18:56 trying to stay neutral because again if
18:57 you're in the knights watch at this
18:59 point you're in a very precarious
19:00 position you don't want to be seen as
19:02 helping Stannis because of Tywin and the
19:04 Lannister rule that's not a good look
19:06 for you you want to be able to get as
19:07 much aid from them as possible you're in
19:09 a very sorry state so you have to deal
19:12 with how do you manage those different
19:14 personalities we also see again a lot of
19:17 this chapter also focuses on Stannis
19:20 this is almost a almost a like POV into
19:22 Stannis as a whole because we see had St
19:25 is struggling to gain support in the
19:27 north he has sent Davos to treat with
19:29 white Harbor but again if we go back to
19:31 Feast with Feast for Crows we know that
19:33 that doesn't seem to have gone well or
19:34 at least something happened to where
19:38 Davos is presumed dead so that is a play
19:40 that Stanis is trying to do but we also
19:42 see that Stanis is not garnering much
19:44 support from the northern houses as a
19:47 whole as the Mormons have now recently
19:49 turned him down and white Harbor has
19:52 gone silent but stenis also talks on the
19:55 fate of mans and how he will be burned
19:57 which also Jon is not a big fan of
19:59 either John is going of come to respect
20:01 mans quite a lot and burning is not a
20:03 good way to go it's probably one of the
20:06 worst ways possible to go out it's not a
20:08 painless death it's you are in pain for
20:12 quite a while and then die and so John
20:14 kind of sees this as a stupid because
20:16 you can use mans in a lot of ways to
20:18 control the wildlings more if he's alive
20:20 than if he's dead and that's something
20:22 that we even see that I think even Mel
20:24 realizes as well but at this point
20:27 that's not the case but Stanis wants to
20:29 reinforce the castles on the wall with
20:31 his own men again Stanis is seeing this
20:33 as the knight's watch has all these
20:36 castles but none of them are manned so
20:38 Stannis thinks okay let's man these
20:41 castles let's get the wall to be
20:44 strengthened but that runs into a
20:45 problem because these castles are not
20:47 stes to do so right these are the
20:49 knights watches castles they stay
20:52 neutral that is not allowed and John
20:54 says that right he refuses this only
20:57 allowing that his officers be in charge
21:00 if Stanis wants to to give him men fine
21:01 but he will have the men that will be
21:03 over them and this frustrates Stanis
21:05 right Stanis in a in a lot of ways this
21:07 is a frustrating time right the north is
21:09 not rallying to him like he would have
21:11 hoped he is not getting as much as he
21:13 would require from Jon as he would like
21:15 after he believes he saved them which he
21:18 did but he's again very precarious
21:19 position for JN and this is going to
21:21 Encompass a lot of the early part of the
21:24 story for John how does he deal with
21:26 people like Stannis and Mel but Mel
21:29 follows him and warns him of foes behind
21:31 his back and daggers in the dark and
21:33 quotes a line from Egret he knows
21:35 nothing again it's a great open because
21:37 in a lot of ways this chapter is just a
21:39 refresher for the John plot line and the
21:40 Stannis plot line which will be heavy
21:43 focuses of this book but it also kind of
21:45 is for boing for the future right we
21:47 already have this foreshadowing of Jon's
21:50 death we see that Jon is someone that is
21:52 struggling to play politics to be a
21:54 leader and also getting this very
21:57 cryptic line of Mel knowing egret's
22:00 famous line all very interesting and it
22:03 also kind of peels back some of that
22:05 wound that Jon still has for Egret again
22:08 it's been quite recently she died so
22:10 again just something that would be
22:11 something that would get under Jon's
22:14 skin a little bit but that gets us into
22:16 bran one chapter
22:20 5 now something I want to point out bran
22:22 is a character that I think we give a
22:24 lot of criticism towards he's probably
22:26 one of the worst povs of the entire
22:30 story in my opinion but I will say his
22:32 at least his first two chapters in this
22:35 book are pretty good I have them ranked
22:36 pretty nicely I'm kind of doing it
22:38 differently this time than I did for
22:40 Feast for Crows where I'm ranking them
22:42 as I read them so it's a little bit more
22:44 fresher in my mind on how I want to rank
22:46 things instead of just ranking them all
22:49 out ranking them all at the end based on
22:50 my summaries and what I can remember
22:51 from them so try to make it a little bit
22:54 more fresh but I really enjoy this first
22:56 chapter for bran because it adds a bit
23:00 of tension to their story because I feel
23:02 like a lot of the problem with Brands
23:03 chapters are there's not a lot of
23:05 conflict or there's not a lot of tension
23:06 it just kind of feels like we're
23:09 wandering around this chapter is not
23:11 that this chapter is focused we need to
23:13 get here but how do we get to the cave
23:16 we are struggling right and again it
23:19 picks up on the ideas of who is the
23:21 three-eyed Crow who is cold hands that's
23:23 a lot of this chapter's focus when you
23:25 look at my video talking about who cold
23:27 hands is a lot of that information comes
23:30 from this chapter specifically a lot of
23:33 this chapter's focus is on who he is and
23:36 he is not of the living but again this
23:37 chapter is filled with Intrigue and
23:39 mystery this chapter almost directly
23:42 correlates with the vamir open to the
23:43 story and again that's one of the
23:45 reasons why I I don't like the verir one
23:47 because I feel like it's almost a
23:50 connection to one part of the story and
23:52 really none of the others but it's
23:54 really apparent here because we see bran
23:57 continuously going into summer taking
23:59 more and more time out of his body as
24:01 he's just being lugged around and not
24:02 much is happening while they wait for
24:04 cold hands to come back with food and
24:06 things like that and we also get this
24:08 disturbing Des description of how bran
24:10 is going into Hodor who does not like
24:12 the process again it makes you question
24:15 bran and it's a lot of foreshadowing to
24:16 maybe things that will come to the
24:19 future but it's very weird that bran is
24:21 going into hodor's skin a lot and George
24:24 even takes a time to describe very
24:26 similar to vr's first chapter how Hodor
24:28 is very uncomfortable with this process
24:30 and bran is basically overpowering
24:32 hodor's will and taking over his body
24:35 and mind that is very scary to think
24:37 about and if bran grows more powerful
24:39 what is that going to have on the
24:41 effects of the story what will he do
24:43 with that again people have kind of
24:44 thought up because of the
24:47 show was bran someone that went into
24:49 other people's minds was blood Raven
24:51 doing this in the past was he going into
24:53 ais's mind that's why he went insane
24:55 maybe he was trying to give him warnings
24:57 but instead it was something that drove
24:58 him mad
24:59 that's all very interesting to think
25:01 about when you look at the future of the
25:03 book series things that we could look at
25:05 going back to the past and how that
25:13 world at this time we also see that
25:15 summer Ina and takes over the pack that
25:17 we saw in the prologue of wolves so
25:20 again just bran asserting his will and
25:22 dominance which again very interesting
25:24 to see as well but we see bran and
25:26 Summer's body actually eating the
25:29 knight's Watchmen and this is very key
25:31 because in a lot of ways bran is once
25:33 again doing something he shouldn't be
25:36 doing he is eating man flesh in his
25:39 Wolf's um body that is not good that is
25:41 cannibalism more or less because
25:43 eventually we also see that cold hands
25:45 comes back to the group saying he
25:49 slaughtered a pig which is highly
25:51 doubtful think about the way verir is
25:53 described is there's no food around in
25:55 the first chapter we even our group here
25:58 they're not finding much food to eat
26:00 and you think about it and you go wait a
26:03 second there was just some people that
26:06 were killed the Wolves were eating them
26:08 and now all of a sudden it seems that
26:10 cold hands has found some food so it's
26:12 very much led to LED for us the audience
26:15 believe that yeah they probably went to
26:18 some cannibalism here so bran again
26:20 eating other humans not good and so
26:22 there's a lot of intrigue a lot of
26:23 things we can look to speculate on the
26:27 rest of the story but again really good
26:29 uh open chapter for or opening chapter
26:31 for brand that I really do enjoy that
26:34 gets us to number six or chapter six
26:37 Tyrion 2 so Tyrion 2 is definitely not
26:39 as good as Tyrion one I think there's
26:40 much more interesting stuff between the
26:43 two characters of Tyrion and AIO whereas
26:45 this one it's a lot more of a travel
26:47 chapter it's more about giving us the
26:50 histories of Os or where they are
26:52 specifically in OS it's more to
26:55 establish where Tyrion is going to be
26:57 going in the future again it is
26:59 explained at this chapter that Tyrion
27:01 will travel with a man named Griff to
27:04 deliver him to Danny but already this
27:06 seems fishy but already this kind of
27:08 seems fishy because lyo notes that the
27:10 golden company have broken a contract
27:12 and we get a famous line here that it
27:15 doesn't matter what the dragon is red or
27:16 black as long as they can go home and
27:20 it's a dragon that is a very interesting
27:22 line that does not seem to add up with
27:25 the history of the golden company and
27:26 that already is going to get the wheels
27:29 kind of turning for us to ERS as to hm
27:31 what is AO actually up to because we're
27:33 going to get more of this in the third
27:35 Tyrion chapter but that's very
27:37 fascinating because we also get more
27:40 into ao's backstory as well here but
27:42 again we get to in some interesting lore
27:45 about OS and the political climate but
27:47 the more interesting points is about
27:50 ayio and varys's past how the two
27:53 operated how they interacted it really
27:55 Paints the picture of why Varys has
27:57 become the person that he is but we also
28:00 get his ex-lover in which ayio still has
28:03 her hand and could this be a
28:06 Blackfire that would prove a lot of that
28:09 would make a lot of reasoning as to why
28:11 young Griff a would be a blackf and why
28:15 yo loves him so much that's a really
28:17 interesting point and this again Tyrion
28:20 connects with about his past in TAA
28:22 again the two can connect on their
28:25 really flawed paths when it comes to
28:28 love and that gets me to I think
28:31 probably my weakest chapter of the first
28:34 like 200 pages of the story and I've
28:36 talked about this a lot I'm not a
28:39 Quenton guy I just do not like this
28:41 character I don't really feel like he
28:44 provides much to the story I think if
28:46 he's a lot like Sam to Me For A Feast
28:48 for Crows where I think if we just skip
28:50 Quentin's journey and have him be
28:52 brought up when he meets Dany through
28:55 like Danny's POV that would be
28:56 completely acceptable I I just don't
28:58 feel like this is needed but let's talk
29:00 about what the first Quenton chapter
29:02 does and maybe what things I just don't
29:03 really particularly like about this story
29:05 story
29:08 line again this chapter is a main focus
29:11 on Quenton who he is as a character and
29:13 again he has been keeping his identity
29:14 hidden and is on a mission to reach Dany
29:16 and marry her again all of this is
29:19 self-explanatory we already knew this
29:21 from the Aron chapters and Feast for
29:24 Crows so really it's just re bringing
29:26 that to the table for us the viewers as
29:28 many people probably didn't like the
29:30 dornish as I know there are people that
29:31 didn't like a lot of the more minor
29:33 plots like the dornish plot and so
29:35 George wants to refresh the reader onto
29:37 what is going on here but to me it's
29:39 just like nothing particularly
29:41 interesting happens in this chapter
29:43 outside of okay our crew with Quenton
29:45 realize they're going to have to become
29:48 part of a cells sword company to get to
29:49 Danny because there's not really a good
29:52 way in which they can get to her cuz
29:53 slavers Bay at the moment is a very
29:56 dangerous place to travel to we get some
29:58 interesting things here and there that
30:00 uh during their passage some of their
30:02 companions have already died one of them
30:04 being a a maester which was very
30:05 detrimental to
30:08 them but they are again struggling to
30:09 find passage to Marine because of the
30:12 war breaking out they are stuck in in
30:14 volantis for the time being again they
30:16 attempt to get passage from Smuggler but
30:18 this seems like a very bad idea as it
30:20 seems like they're being full and it's
30:22 unlikely to actually end well but either
30:24 way on their way back from the docks
30:26 they encounter some wind blown looking
30:28 for recruits and the party realize this
30:30 is their only option to get to Dany
30:32 again personally I don't really care
30:33 about quenon I don't find his character
30:35 that interesting he's just another
30:38 failed love interest for Dany really and
30:40 I think he his death if he is dead I
30:42 believe he is dead other people do not
30:44 his death will have more meaning on
30:46 other characters like Aran like Duran
30:48 and some of the moves that they go
30:51 forward with so I feel like D or Quenton
30:53 is not exactly his own character he's
30:56 more a character for other characters
30:58 like Daenerys like bar Ariston and like
31:00 the other dornish I've talked about and
31:02 so this character just comes off as flat
31:05 like this this chapter by far of all the
31:07 chapters we've gotten so far is the
31:09 least impactful like this chapter didn't
31:11 need to be here right like what is the
31:14 difference between getting Quenton with
31:17 Danny later on in the story and Quenton
31:19 just goes yeah I you know I tricked the
31:22 wind blown and I ended up you know
31:24 traveling to you just so I could be
31:26 traveling to you and then getting the
31:29 big reveal that you know viseras was
31:31 supposed to marry Arian but now he is
31:32 going to marry her that's going to be
31:34 how they're going to do the deal and all
31:36 of that I think that works the exact
31:38 same except it gets rid of some of this
31:40 fluff Andor filler that I think Quenton
31:43 has in this book but that gets us to
31:46 John 2 now John 2 is very interesting
31:49 because it's a flip of Sam One In A
31:50 Feast for Crows and I mentioned this a
31:52 lot when we did that chapter in the last
31:55 book it's an interesting take of how to
31:57 do this because something that chapter
31:59 really does well for Sam one in peace
32:02 for Crows is it shows like why is JN
32:05 making these decisions it makes us just
32:09 like Sam questioning John and so even in
32:10 that book one of the big things that it
32:13 builds up for the story already is Jan
32:16 is someone that is really isolating
32:18 himself from his friends he's not making
32:20 people like him Andor respect him as
32:22 much as they probably could it's leading
32:23 people to question him because his
32:27 communication skills are not the best
32:29 and so I love the way George flips this
32:31 so in this chapter we can actually see a
32:33 lot of what Jon is doing and we
32:35 understand his motivations albeit we
32:37 think I think that he could do things a
32:38 little bit better and explain things
32:40 better the whole chapter is really the
32:43 focus of JN killing the boy and becoming
32:47 the man he is trying to make some moves
32:49 that he believes are not going to make
32:51 him well-liked for what needs to be done
32:54 for the greater good again we see John
32:56 commanding Gilly to take mance's child
32:58 and Sam as forced to go south aen and
33:00 again it's a hard chapter to look at
33:02 because we know all this stuff is going
33:03 to happen and what it ends up leading to
33:05 right like we know because aan goes
33:08 south that ends up getting him killed so
33:10 in a lot of ways Jon is responsible for
33:13 aan dying even though aan kind of dies
33:16 more of natural causes than anything
33:18 it's interesting to realize this stuff
33:20 with hindsight of looking at what Jon's
33:23 decisions are going to lead to and we
33:25 can understand J's rationale perfectly
33:28 we understand that this baby is going to
33:31 die if Gilly does not take him we know
33:33 that they need more merss Sam needs to
33:34 become a maer that's for the greater
33:37 good to find more about the others we
33:39 know that aan needs to go south or else
33:40 he might get burned and that's something
33:43 maester aan does not deserve and so we
33:45 understand all of John's decisions but
33:47 still it's hard to read because these
33:50 are hard things that he's isolating all
33:52 the people that we care about a lot and
33:55 are J's staunchest
33:58 supporters but at this we get some of my
34:01 favorite parts of this the rest of the
34:03 chapter again the second half focuses on
34:05 some of the forts remand and repaired as
34:08 best as possible but this leads to a
34:10 great payoff and it's really awesome for
34:12 me because I'm just now reading I'm
34:13 getting to that section in the Game of
34:16 Thrones reread where Janice slint is
34:18 coming into prominence he's betrayed Ned
34:20 he's just gotten Heron Hall on Tuesday
34:23 in the video we did with Sansa 5 he is
34:25 finally getting his comeuppence and so
34:28 John basically gives him an order and he
34:31 refuses it and watching Jon figure out
34:32 how to deal with slint and executing
34:35 slint is fantastic because we see JN
34:38 once again he is not a boy anymore slint
34:40 is pleading saying he's a coward and Jon
34:43 still kills him and one of the best
34:45 scenes that they executed from season
34:48 five from the book to season five anyway
34:50 is this scene and we see again Stannis
34:52 is not of approval at the end of the
34:53 chapter it's kind of that nice little
34:56 cherry on top and by far it is my
34:59 favorite chapter the first n it's just a
35:01 big moment for Jon's character and for
35:03 the story as a whole something we've
35:06 been waiting on for a long time so
35:10 Tyrion 3 again chapter nine gets us to
35:12 meeting young Griff and getting to that
35:16 party and getting away from Ayo Tyrion
35:18 again he is done with
35:20 alyo and so in this chapter he meets
35:22 Halen and duck we get some nice little
35:24 nods to the Blackfire Theory again as
35:27 AIO is gifting many things to young GFF
35:30 it makes us think about wait how come
35:31 Danny and viseris did not seem like they
35:34 got any of these things only Danny
35:36 seemed to get a lot of these gifts and
35:37 that was because she was married or
35:40 marrying C Drogo in the first book but
35:42 the three traveled to the ship having
35:44 conversations about the shrouded Lord
35:46 which is also very interesting given
35:48 some theories about this could be
35:50 tyrion's uncle which is also very
35:52 interesting and how duck was kned by
35:54 Griff because this is very interesting
35:57 as well we now know that Griff must be a
36:00 knight and there's not many knights in
36:03 OS so all of that's very fascinating
36:04 because it's going to get the gears
36:06 turning for Tyrion but all this is very
36:08 interesting but the best part is him
36:11 meeting young Griff and eventually Griff
36:14 because Tyrion sees a lot of his father
36:16 Tywin in John conington which is
36:18 interesting given that John conington
36:21 wishes he had been more like Tywin he
36:23 could have ended Robert's rebellion and
36:24 so a lot of this is very interesting it
36:26 gets us into I think the best part of
36:27 Tyrion in this book and I think the
36:29 first three Tyrion chapters are all
36:31 solid I don't think any of them are
36:33 spectacular but they are good enough to
36:35 get the job done and really get us to I
36:38 think really the peak part of Tyrion in
36:41 this book so moving on we get Davos one
36:43 and this is again it's a Prelude it's
36:45 really a Prelude to the amazing chapters
36:47 we're going to get going forward with
36:50 Davos uh in this story but again it's a
36:52 reflection chapter it's really what it
36:54 is it's reflecting and piecing together
36:56 what happened between A Storm of Swords
36:57 during the time timeline of Feast for
37:01 Crows and here and so we see that
37:02 because of storms they have shattered
37:05 salador son's Fleet and Davos has been
37:08 left stranded in sisteron Davos has been
37:10 captured as he was trying to smuggle his
37:12 way to White Harbor but is caught again
37:14 this is going to directly reflect what
37:16 happens to Ned and Robert's Rebellion
37:17 something I talked about in the past
37:20 video as well but this is interesting
37:22 right because how is this going to work
37:25 with the with the Lord here with Lord
37:27 Burell how is he going to deal with this
37:30 situation right but Lord Burell and
37:32 Davos have a conversation about what to
37:34 do with him and we get some interesting
37:35 information about the history of the
37:38 sisters again as I talked about earlier
37:40 about the Roberts Rebellion stuff it's a
37:42 direct comparison to What's Happening
37:44 Here Stannis albeit maybe isn't in the
37:47 best position at the time who's to say
37:48 he doesn't actually end up Gathering the
37:50 north if he was to defeat the boltons
37:53 that'd be a huge win rallying the north
37:55 behind him who knows what could happen
37:56 Taiwan is dead right that's something
37:58 that Davos finds out in this chapter
38:01 tommen at this point is on the throne
38:03 with really bad counselors we see how
38:05 all that plays out in Feast for Crows
38:07 and so yeah there's something that Lord
38:10 brell really has to think about but we
38:11 also not only get the Roberts Rebellion
38:13 stuff we also get the kind of the
38:15 history of the sisteron and the sisters
38:17 as a whole as how the veil of the north
38:19 would constantly fought over it until
38:21 was eventually brought into aegon's
38:24 Kingdom but overall this is a but
38:25 overall this chapter is a great chapter
38:27 to build on for Davos George is really
38:29 just showing us what happened with
38:31 Stannis in this book building up this
38:34 plot line and giving us a taste of what
38:37 is to come in the north with Davos so
38:39 that gets us to John 3 and I want to
38:41 point this out right we are only 11
38:44 chapters in and we've gotten three
38:46 Tyrion chapters and three John chapters
38:48 half of the first part of this like
38:52 little section is just John an tyum if
38:55 that doesn't show you that George took
38:58 the advice of readers in the
39:00 past of his fans and his readers about
39:03 the criticisms of A Feast for Crows they
39:05 should tell you everything right if we
39:06 even think about the next chapter right
39:10 out of the first 12 chapters eight of
39:13 them are John Danny and
39:16 Tyrion I just want to point that out as
39:18 we go further in here but John 3 again I
39:20 I really praise what George is able to
39:22 do with this character because this is
39:24 just a really great chapter I love
39:27 everything that it has relating to John
39:29 again his plotline in this book is
39:31 really established by these first three
39:34 chapters but the Chapters open with man
39:36 Raiders execution or what we believe is
39:38 man Raider's execution and this is a
39:39 really big moment right man Raider has
39:41 been built up as a really big character
39:44 at this point of the story and so again
39:45 hindsight we know that this is a man
39:47 Raider but given what we know at this
39:50 point of the story this is a Big Moment
39:52 Like This is really John's I wouldn't
39:55 say his villain of his Arc cuz that's
39:57 the others
39:59 but it's been like his anti-hero of his
40:01 story and so really big character is
40:03 going out and we see Mel performing this
40:06 ritual but we again see the way Jon and
40:08 Stan Stannis handle things quite
40:10 differently Jon is not willing to let
40:12 this man be burned to death and commands
40:15 him to be shot with some arrows to again
40:18 just allow that to end quickly now this
40:21 is not actually man's Raider so it is
40:23 quite different we are but it is quite
40:24 interesting but something else we're
40:27 left to ponder here is that man Raider
40:29 starts saying that he was not the king
40:32 and that he wasn't all these things that
40:34 leads you to think about this is like is
40:36 this just one desperate plea for man
40:39 Raider to get out of this but no we know
40:40 this is really the Lord of Bones yelling
40:42 this cuz he doesn't want to get burned
40:45 it's very interesting what also does
40:48 this tell us it tells us that Mel
40:49 doesn't really believe that King's blood
40:52 is needed because it's the Lord of Bones
40:55 it's not the king and so we've kind of
40:56 already realized this by the time we get
40:59 to wins of winner but it's not really
41:02 King's blood that does it it's blood in
41:05 general it's blood magic that's powerful
41:07 that's what gives power in this world we
41:10 also see more of why Jon is killed as he
41:11 continues to try and struggle with
41:13 ruling and dealing with people because
41:15 at this point Bowen Marsh does really
41:17 respect Jon but Bowen suggests he
41:20 blocked the gates but Jon disagrees
41:22 doesn't really Express why like he just
41:24 says oh it'll leave us blind but he
41:26 doesn't really expand upon that it just
41:28 feels like a one-sided conversation
41:29 where bow and Marsh is you know giving
41:31 all these reasons as to maybe why this
41:33 could be beneficial and just John just
41:36 going nah that's kind of how it feels
41:38 and like we as the readers understand
41:40 why Jon doesn't want the gates to be
41:41 blocked because we're in his head so
41:42 we're thinking we're looking at his
41:44 thoughts and going yeah I understand
41:47 that rationale but he's not saying those
41:49 things to Bow and Marsh and so when you
41:51 have a building conflict right where bow
41:52 and Marsh is going to have a lot of
41:54 these moments and a lot of people in the
41:55 watch will have this these moments with
41:57 John where where they're giving him some
41:59 sort of idea that Jon doesn't like but
42:02 Jon doesn't really give them anything
42:05 back he just says no and so that's an
42:07 interesting point but we also see that
42:09 the wildlings are basically given a
42:11 choice you either bend the knee and get
42:13 some food and shelter or you're
42:15 basically told to leave they can go back
42:17 up north with no clothing or well with
42:19 the clothing that they have but no food
42:22 really basically a death sentence and so
42:25 many do bend the knee to Stanis and all
42:27 of that and get food and things like
42:30 that but it doesn't really go the way I
42:32 think stanas was kind of hoping it would
42:35 and so at this point right this is why
42:36 bow March is like we need to close the
42:38 gates right because the wildings are
42:40 going to come back if we seal the gates
42:42 it'll be much easier to defend we don't
42:45 have the men to defend against another
42:47 assault like what happened with mans and
42:49 that's a very interesting point right
42:51 like if you think about it like if you
42:54 think about bow Marsh's rationale we
42:55 know the others are out there we know
42:57 the wildlings are out there and they're
42:59 going to be coming south we know all of
43:03 this what is the point of having Scouts
43:05 like what like what's the point like the
43:06 last time that they went on a really big
43:10 scouting party in book two didn't go
43:13 well a lot of the watch strength died
43:14 because of Mormon's decision now it was
43:16 important to understand what was going
43:19 on but at the same time it was also
43:20 detrimental so again you can see both of
43:23 the rationals of both Mormont and Jon
43:25 Snow which is what makes this chapter so
43:27 interesting but not only that we also
43:29 see this chapter having some internal
43:31 conflict about the wildlings and the
43:33 Nights Watch relationship right how is
43:35 Jon going to circumvent that but also
43:37 how is when he looks at his nights
43:38 Watchmen and how they react to the
43:41 wildlings a lot of them are not too
43:42 pleased a lot of them are not happy to
43:45 have all of these wildlings south of the
43:47 wall it makes them feel uneasy and if
43:49 you're a kns Watchman think about this
43:51 for thousands of years you've had these
43:53 issues with the kns watch and the
43:55 wildlings right and so a lot of these
43:57 people don't have those experiences with
43:59 good wildlings right or people that are
44:01 just normal people trying to make their
44:03 way to safety they don't have those
44:05 relationships a lot of people have lost
44:08 friends to these wildlings maybe even if
44:09 you are living in the north family
44:12 members all of that is very relevant to
44:13 this whole argument that's going to go
44:16 on with JN and the other um Knights
44:18 Watchmen but we also see Jon struggling
44:20 with being a leader he has regret over
44:23 Gilly aiman and Sam as he hears of the
44:26 storms that occurred in Sam 2 again if
44:27 you guys don't remember there was a big
44:29 storm that happens that ends up
44:31 basically having them struggling in
44:34 around skagos it's a really filler one
44:35 of the worst chapters of A Feast for
44:37 Crows but that is what JN is kind of
44:39 referring to at this moment but he also
44:41 knows he can't be friends with his men
44:44 anymore and goes a step farther so yeah
44:47 we see Jon basically going to the dining
44:49 area and his friends want them to sit
44:51 with him and John is about to but then
44:53 he thinks this like he thinks about how
44:55 Ned always told him he can't be friends
44:57 with his men right you can't do that
44:59 because you may have to send them to die
45:01 or basically be sitting over them if
45:05 they commit a crime and so JN goes a
45:07 step further he has all of his staunches
45:09 allies people that we have known from
45:11 book one and sends them away either
45:14 Shadow Tower or eastwatch and it's
45:17 another misstep from John because what
45:18 does this do it isolates his staunches
45:20 supporters people that would be able to
45:22 understand him more and sends them other
45:24 places and all in all again it's a great
45:26 chapter that really is a culmination of
45:29 John's entire Arc in this book and
45:31 foreshadows much to come and that'll get
45:34 us into chapter 12 or Danny 2 again I
45:36 think it's another really good chapter
45:38 because just how I talked about with the
45:40 last two chapters for John this is a
45:42 really good one it's a direct
45:44 continuation of the issues built up in
45:47 the first Danny chapter we see more
45:49 deaths have occurred with her unsoed
45:51 being slain by the sons of the harpy
45:52 again one of which is actually brother
45:55 to mande doesn't really happen in the
45:58 show but again this is a very big event
46:00 bande is much younger than she is in the
46:03 show and so this really impacts her but
46:04 we see how Danny deals with the sons of
46:06 the harpy and what length she will go to
46:09 get information right she goes as far as
46:12 having these witnesses that who knows if
46:14 they're innocent or actually guilty but
46:16 possibly tortured by the shave P because
46:19 she's that desperate for information
46:21 again you see those glimpses of things
46:23 that George can play on and wins of
46:24 winner where it's like Dany and her
46:26 desperation sometimes
46:28 can make bad decisions even if she
46:30 thinks it's for the greater good but
46:31 other things that I find are very
46:34 interesting in this entire situation is
46:37 how Danny again is not really asserting
46:39 herself she's playing more of a passive
46:41 role which is much more different for
46:43 her as a character than we've seen in
46:46 the past but Danny then has to be the
46:49 one to confront or Com or comfort mande
46:51 and struggles with how can she protect
46:53 her people right how is she going to
46:54 protect all these people that are
46:55 calling her mother right there's this
46:57 really cute line where mande calls Dany
47:00 basically her protector and her mother
47:02 and Danny struggles with that she feels
47:04 guilty because she has the weight of all
47:06 these people's lives but yeah people are
47:09 still dying but this also makes her
47:10 think about her real children the
47:12 children that she is always said as
47:15 being her dragons the dragons have been
47:17 imprisoned and how they have failed to capture
47:18 capture
47:21 drogon Danny is feeling an overwhelming
47:24 sense of loss of control she feels like
47:26 she can't handle this this whole
47:28 situation and again what do we always
47:30 talk about it seems like when Danny is
47:32 at her lowest point her weakest point
47:34 she's either having Dragon dreams or
47:37 being visited by cith and this is by far
47:38 the most interesting part of the chapter
47:41 because we always use this section of
47:43 this chapter to foreshadow things to
47:45 come with Danny's plotline but we see
47:48 Quai appear and it comes at a very
47:51 interesting point as Danny is in many
47:53 ways losing her way Quai tries to remind
47:56 her to be a dragon and and remember who
47:59 she is but also to warn her of people to
48:03 come like Tyrion like victarion like all
48:05 these other people like young Griff
48:08 possibly but she ALS oh but she also has
48:10 once again to deal with the growing
48:11 issue of the reopening of the fighting
48:13 pits again Hisar has brought some of
48:15 these pit fighters and what's very
48:17 interesting is that the pit fighters
48:18 want the pits to be reopened this is
48:20 where they get Glory they feel like they
48:23 have some worth in this world and Dany
48:25 doesn't know what to say to them right
48:26 it's a same idea that we talked about in
48:29 Danny 1 where slavery is definitely a
48:31 bad thing but what do you do when
48:32 there's certain people that are enslaved
48:34 that had better lives because they had
48:36 better Masters when they were enslaved
48:38 than they do now now they're you know
48:40 looking for bread and not being able to
48:43 live a normal life how do you deal with
48:44 that and that's the issues that Danny is
48:46 trying to come to is like how does she
48:48 deny the people the fighting pits if
48:51 that's what they want that is a very
48:53 compelling issue to play with with the
48:54 character of
48:58 Dany but lastly again like we talk about
48:59 whenever she's at her weakest She Goes
49:02 To Her Dragons she goes to see them but
49:04 she has to think of what they of what to
49:06 she has to think of what to do they are
49:08 no longer children but in her words they
49:11 are monsters she has to rec she recounts
49:13 how she had to deal with a farmer after
49:16 in Danny one she had to attempt to buy
49:19 his silence as drogon has had killed his
49:21 child again Dany is locking up her
49:23 dragons right she believes they're too
49:25 wild she can't control them anymore
49:28 she's losing her way right she she very
49:30 similar to me with like a character like
49:33 Rob who as The Story Goes On at times
49:36 seems to come very disconnected with his
49:38 wolf greywind and that's something
49:40 that's very detrimental right because
49:42 he's kind of going away from his Stark
49:44 instincts and going away from who he is
49:46 that's something that Danny struggles
49:47 with in this chapter and why I think
49:48 it's a really good chapter for Danny
49:51 because it plays on her identity her
49:53 growth in this character a lot of her
49:55 struggles and things she's dealing with
49:56 it's all going to to culminate into the
49:58 end of this book that this chapter is
50:02 pivotal to understanding that now we get
50:06 to chapter 13 which is bran 2 now bran 2
50:09 is a really really awesome chapter as
50:10 well right like what I talk about with
50:12 bran is he's really good at the
50:14 beginning of this book we see again
50:16 picking up from where we left off bran
50:18 and our group has been traveling and
50:19 this is the most desperate they've
50:22 probably ever been the cold is getting
50:24 to them many of them haven't eaten in
50:26 days and they're struggling to reach the
50:28 cave you can see it it's in sight
50:30 they're finally there but it's this
50:33 tough uphill battle um and I mean that
50:35 literally it's going uphill it's hard to
50:38 walk and even some of them can't even
50:40 walk anymore even jojan himself cannot
50:42 walk any longer and is having to be
50:45 helped by his sister even to the point
50:47 where they really are kind of Left
50:50 Behind as cold hands notes the others
50:52 are approaching and even the wolves are
50:55 close by they must hurry so him odor and
50:58 bran hurry to the entrance but before
51:00 they can get there they are Str they are
51:03 run upon by the others it seems a trap
51:05 the others come from the ground pulling
51:08 Hodor to the ground but also having bran
51:10 fall from his basket it's a really
51:12 intense scene in which our characters
51:14 seem like they're about to die at many
51:16 points but it all leads to once again
51:19 the question of bran warging into Hodor
51:22 and again we see that ethical issue as
51:24 Hodor doesn't like it but bran sees it
51:27 as he must do or they are going to die
51:31 bran using hodor's body allows them to
51:35 survive again helping mea and the others
51:38 but at this point they are saved by the
51:40 children of the forest something that's
51:42 been foreshadowed really since the first
51:45 two chapters of Bran's uh story in a
51:48 Game of Thrones but either way they are
51:51 LED through this really weird area where
51:53 it seems like there's these deep white
51:55 uh roots that they think are snakes at
51:58 the beginning they come across skulls of
52:00 things like Ravens and such but at this
52:03 point they find blood Raven and this is
52:06 a really interesting point because Brian
52:08 at this point asks if he will walk again
52:12 but blood Raven says no he will fly
52:14 which gets bran to the point of crying
52:17 he's gone on this insane Adventure
52:20 abandoning you know the north his family
52:22 and coming to this point just so that he
52:24 could not be a [ __ ] anymore which
52:25 just haunted bran for the beginning of
52:27 the story and is one of the biggest
52:29 reasons why he came to seek out the
52:32 three-eyed Crow at this point that's
52:35 kind of been crushed this seems there a
52:37 lot of manipulation by Blood Raven to
52:40 get bran here so that who knows what
52:41 could happen if bran is basically
52:44 becoming a vessel for the old gods who
52:48 knows but it comes off as very strange
52:52 in a chapter that will start Bran's Arc
52:54 as becoming probably the three-eyed Crow
52:56 or at least some sort of vessel for them
52:59 it puts a lot of tension and unease and
53:02 huge twist for Bran's story and is by
53:05 far one of his best chapters of his
53:08 entire POV throughout all four books
53:10 that he is in and again it's a
53:12 definitely standout chapter of the
53:14 opening story so thank you guys all for
53:17 watching part one of my dance dragons
53:18 retrospective I hope you guys all
53:20 enjoyed the first part and I'll
53:22 hopefully be getting to the second part
53:24 within the coming weeks as well let me
53:24 know if there's anything I didn't talk
53:26 about that you think I should have and
53:27 uh let me know what your guys' thoughts
53:29 are on a dance of dragons let me know
53:31 out of the five books of the main series
53:34 anyway is where is this one ranked but
