0:38 home to the University of Hull which
0:41 looks after around 14 000 students
0:43 amongst those students was 21 year old
0:46 Liberty Squire who went by Libby Libby
0:48 was in her second year and had thrived
0:50 at University
0:52 she had done well in her studies enjoyed
0:54 the social aspect that being at
0:56 University gave her and had a great
0:58 group of friends
1:00 those that knew her said she was
1:03 wickedly fun talented witty and always
1:06 made an effort to include everybody
1:08 she was a doting big sister to her
1:10 brother and two sisters and was very
1:12 close to her mother Lisa and father Russell
1:13 Russell
1:16 Libby had always been very bright and
1:17 pushed herself hard to achieve good
1:19 grades but family said she definitely
1:21 held herself to an impossibly high
1:24 standard her mental health soon started
1:26 suffering she was battling an eating
1:29 disorder self-harming and her grades
1:31 were slipping
1:33 she continued to push through and
1:35 persevered to get her a-levels and was
1:37 beaming when she was accepted into
1:40 University to study philosophy
1:42 Lisa said she was worried about her
1:44 daughter being so far away not wanting
1:45 her mental health to start suffering
1:48 again but Libby was adamant it was for
1:50 the best and couldn't wait for a fresh start
1:51 start
1:54 she took a gap year and went traveling
1:56 in Paris and by the time she got back
1:59 she was more than ready to move into the
2:00 next phase of her life [Music]
2:02 [Music]
2:04 she was in a strong relationship with
2:06 her boyfriend of three years Connor with
2:08 him saying she was the most interesting
2:10 person he'd ever met caring and
2:13 empathetic I know it's easy to say at my
2:15 age but I knew she was the person for me
2:17 he recalled
2:19 Libby was always busy and had lots of
2:21 plans already made for when she
2:23 graduated she wanted to go traveling
2:25 with her housemates and hopefully move
2:33 University had brought out another side
2:35 in her and Connor said she was more
2:47 on January 31 2019 at 8 30 PM Libby left
2:49 her students accommodation on Wellesley
2:51 Avenue and she and some friends walked
2:54 to another student house most students
2:56 nearby were going out and the plan was
2:58 that Libby and her group of friends
3:00 would have some drinks play some games
3:03 catch up and then head out to a popular
3:06 nearby club called the Welly
3:08 at around 10 pm she sent Connor a text
3:10 message to say goodnight as she was
3:13 leaving her phone at home and at 11 20
3:14 the group arrived at the nightclub
3:38 Libby was refused entry
3:40 she was clearly intoxicated and
3:42 struggling to walk or stand and the
3:44 security team turned her away saying
3:54 they regrouped and 10 minutes later her
3:56 friends put her into a taxi gave the
3:58 driver some money and told him to take
4:01 her back home they watched as the taxi
4:03 drove off and carried on with their Knights
4:10 just before 3am the group who were now
4:12 starting to arrive home and wind down
4:14 sent a text message to a housemate of
4:16 libbies that had stayed at home to see
4:18 how she was
4:20 to their alarm they said Libby hadn't
4:23 come home and they hadn't seen or heard
4:25 from her they assumed that she was still
4:27 out of the club
4:29 everybody started calling around other
4:31 people's homes wondering if she'd gone there
4:32 there
4:35 not one person had seen her and as her
4:36 phone was still at home they couldn't
4:39 get hold of her that way either they
4:40 also found her house keys in the garden too
4:42 too
4:45 Not only was Libby very intoxicated it
4:47 was bitterly cold outside and snow was
4:49 covering parts of the road
4:51 they knew this wasn't safe if she was
4:53 still out there and they called the
4:59 the police were definitely concerned and
5:01 the investigation moved quickly was it
5:02 possible that she was struggling with
5:04 her mental health again and this had
5:07 caused her to run away they wondered her
5:08 friends and family said they had to
5:11 consider every possibility
5:14 but this one was highly unlikely she had
5:16 been in the best of spirits loved her
5:18 housemates and had just received great
5:20 marks and feedback from her Christmas assignments
5:21 assignments
5:24 within just a few hours the media was
5:26 running with the story and Libby was at
5:29 the Forefront of everybody's Minds
5:31 the 2cc TV cameras are on a nearby
5:33 property agency and they show the area
5:35 where people queue to get into the Welly
5:37 nightclub here Libby Squire has seen
5:39 coming up to the club off camera she's
5:41 turned away by a doorman and then goes
5:43 back down to the group the businessman
5:44 who's released the footage to police
5:46 says he hope it serves to jog someone's
5:49 memory of seeing Libby that night the
5:51 police were able to track down the taxi driver
5:52 driver
5:54 he said he had dropped her at Wellesley
5:56 Avenue and when he glanced back he saw
5:59 her walking towards her front door
6:01 for whatever reason Libby hadn't gone inside
6:02 inside
6:05 fortunately the streets were covered by
6:07 CCTV and knowing the time she was placed
6:10 in the taxi it wasn't hard to find her
6:12 and track where she had walked after
6:14 getting out of the cab
6:16 cameras showed Libby walking on the
6:18 roads nearby at 11 37 pm
6:22 at 11 40 PM two passersby stopped to try
6:24 and help her when they found her lying
6:25 in the snow
6:27 they said Libby was crying and agitated
6:30 but didn't want any help and was Snappy
6:32 and incoherent
6:33 they felt there was nothing they could
6:36 do a group of students then saw her
6:38 outside their house and invited her in
6:40 to check that she was okay but she
6:44 carried on walking seemingly aimlessly
6:46 an authority said given how cold it was
6:48 that early morning she could well have
6:49 been suffering from the early side
6:57 since Libby Squire was last seen and
6:59 forensic officers from humbicide police
7:01 have spent today at the place where she
7:03 was last spotted they collected items of
7:05 Interest as their investigation into the
7:07 missing 21 year old student continues
7:10 police say they're extremely concerned
7:12 for her welfare specialist teams aided
7:14 by coast guards are continuing their
7:16 search efforts along the nearby River
7:18 Hull students have also helped in the
7:21 ongoing operation it doesn't feel real
7:22 if you still feels like really surreal
7:24 we were talking late last night and it
7:26 feels like something out of a movie and
7:27 the second you don't like do anything
7:30 you just get frustrated she's a lovely
7:32 person and it's so out of character for
7:33 something like this to happen please
7:35 come home we know we love you all the
7:37 support there's over 200 people in there
7:39 for you please please come home soon
7:41 obviously when people go out and they
7:43 drink sometimes you lose your phone or
7:45 you can't get home quite as easy but
7:48 she's always always made sure that she's
7:50 found a phone or anyone she can contact
7:52 to make sure someone knows she's safe
7:54 regardless of what happened so to not
7:56 hear anything from her at all is
7:58 completely not like her Libby got into a
8:01 taxi outside the Welly club in Beverly
8:03 Road at 11 PM on Thursday police believe
8:05 she got out near her home in Wellesley
8:07 Avenue just a few minutes up the road
8:10 but she was then spotted on CCTV 45
8:13 minutes later here at the junction with
8:16 Hayworth Street a male driver reportedly
8:18 saw her sitting on a bench got out to
8:21 ask if she was okay she said she was and
8:23 he drove away what happened next remains
8:24 a mystery
8:26 police said they're following up a
8:28 number of leads and are Keen to hear
8:30 from anyone who was in the area where
8:32 Libby was last seen if anyone was
8:35 driving around the area between 11 pm on
8:37 Thursday evening and 3 A.M on Friday
8:40 morning and as dash cam footage we would
8:43 urge them to come forward police efforts
8:45 supported by the community and students
8:48 in Hull continue three days since Libby
8:51 Squire was last seen Neil Connery ITV News
8:54 News
8:56 it wasn't looking good
8:58 however police said they were still
8:59 treating it as a missing person's
9:02 inquiry although reporters said behind
9:04 the scenes the detectives were actually
9:07 looking at it as an abduction
9:13 we just want to know that you're safe
9:16 please get in touch with us any way you
9:18 can the whole family is missing you
9:21 especially me and your dad sisters and
9:24 your brother I miss you so much it's
9:26 breaking my heart not knowing where you
9:28 are please come forward with any
9:31 information you may have no matter how
9:33 small or irrelevant it may be
9:36 we just want to be home
9:39 the search parties were huge and Libby's
9:41 name was all over social media and the news
9:46 the university started collaborating
9:48 with the police to arrange times and
9:56 police asked residents to check their
9:59 Gardens sheds and outbuildings to see if
10:01 she may have taken shelter there
10:03 door-to-door inquiries were being
10:05 carried out and bins and drains were
10:17 clothing that matched what she was
10:18 wearing that night started circulating
10:21 and they asked people spotted on the
10:24 CCTV around the same time an area to
10:26 please come forward [Music]
10:34 it was now national news and the biggest
10:36 investigation in homicide police's history
10:37 history
10:40 her phone was looked at but there was no
10:42 evidence on this either to indicate that
10:44 she had met up with anybody
10:47 absolutely nothing was turning up and it
10:49 really was down to the cameras to carry
10:58 it's day four of the search and now
11:01 experts are looking for clues in the
11:03 water this river is a few meters from
11:05 where missing student Libby Squire went
11:08 missing on Thursday night on the road
11:10 where Libby lives the search effort is
11:13 just as thorough police officers hoping
11:15 to find even the smallest clue to piece
11:18 together her last known movements we did
11:20 discover a mobile phone
11:22 which despite analysis has not provided
11:25 any further insight as to where she may
11:27 be or her movements at night whilst a
11:30 location is not yet known this does not
11:31 mean she has come to harm
11:33 but we must carry out a thorough
11:35 investigation and explore all possibilities
11:38 possibilities
11:41 finally police would receive their first
11:42 big tip
11:44 a resident that lived near Oaks Road
11:46 Playing Fields said he heard a woman
11:48 screaming at around quarter past
11:50 midnight and the noise was heard coming
11:52 from around the wooded area
11:55 it was so loud it woke him up and he
11:57 knew the time was exact because he had
11:59 checked his phone
12:02 he looked out of his window to see a man
12:03 hurrying towards a car
12:06 using this time frame police went back
12:08 and searched through the cameras again
12:12 and started working in reverse order
12:14 if what the neighborhood was indeed
12:16 Libby it meant there was around a 30 to
12:18 40 minute window between when she was
12:20 first seen walking around the streets to
12:23 that specific point in time it had
12:25 definitely narrowed a lot down
12:28 finally they saw something on the footage
12:29 footage
12:31 they noticed a silver Vauxhall Astra had
12:33 been circulating the area for hours
12:36 before Libby was last seen it was just
12:39 driving round and round for seemingly no reason
12:46 just before midnight this very car was
12:47 seen pulling in at the End of the Road
12:50 close to where Libby was walking
12:52 a person stepped out and crossed the
12:58 Libby appeared to be Stood Still near
13:00 the bus stop but she was actually
13:02 walking back in the direction of her house
13:03 house
13:06 the person then crossed back over and
13:08 started walking along the other side of
13:15 it appeared that whoever it was had
13:17 crossed the road to see who if anyone
13:20 Libby was with engage what the situation was
13:22 was foreign
13:30 they stopped for a minute before
13:32 Crossing back over the road and talking
13:38 five minutes then passed when the pair
13:40 were walking together but in the
13:42 opposite direction Libby had been
13:55 Libby was on the pavement and the driver
14:03 [Music]
14:05 authorities saw a few more headlights
14:07 come and go and believed whoever the
14:10 driver was was waiting for the coast to
14:13 be clear before continuing on [Music]
14:16 [Music]
14:20 at 1208 am Libby got inside whoever's
14:24 vehicle it was and the car drove off
14:26 her watch was later found in that exact
14:29 area something had caused it to come off
14:31 and police theorized that there was
14:33 likely a point where either the driver
14:35 physically tried to coax her in or
14:37 grabbed her arm to pull her in
14:40 it was such a vital piece of footage one
14:42 that if the car had been parked even a
14:44 foot further away would probably have
14:51 they now had a description of the car
14:53 and going off of What the residents had
14:56 said a time frame and a potential
14:58 location for where the car had ended up
15:00 with Libby
15:03 sure enough the car was tracked as it
15:05 pulled into Oak Road's playing fields
15:08 10 minutes then passed and this was
15:10 around the time the resident heard the screams
15:22 the car lights then came on and the car
15:24 exited the fields and headed back out
15:37 two women then also came forward with a
15:39 separate complaint but one that would
15:42 ultimately be a huge lead as well
15:45 they reported that at around 3 am a man
15:47 had stepped out in front of them on the
15:49 streets and started masturbating they
15:51 were horrified but he didn't seem
15:54 bothered at all relishing in just how
15:56 uncomfortable they were
15:59 using this time location and description
16:06 everything matched up and it was the
16:08 same man in the same car
16:10 they now had a clear image of their
16:12 Person of Interest
16:14 following his movements in the hours
16:16 before and days afterwards they got a
16:23 on February 6th the police announced
16:25 that they had made an arrest in
16:33 a mile from where she was last seen a
16:36 week since she vanished forensic
16:37 investigators have been at this house
16:39 since last night
16:42 here a 24 year old man was arrested on
16:45 suspicion of the Abduction of Libby
16:48 Squire officers also recovered a car as
16:50 part of an investigation which has
16:53 increased in Tempo in the last 24 hours
16:56 quarter past nine two playing close
16:59 policeman knocked on the door and they
17:01 were seeking access to the Back Garden
17:03 of the house next door because they
17:08 wanted to block off any Escape Route if
17:10 um and if anybody tried to leave that
17:12 way when police entered at the front
17:15 door at around midnight tonight it will
17:18 mark seven days since Libby vanished on
17:20 the land and in the water the search
17:23 continues into her disturbing disappearance
17:25 disappearance
17:28 earlier a specialist police Marine unit
17:32 examined local waterways others carried
17:33 out a search of the wooded areas
17:36 adjacent to it
17:38 the last few days have seen her shocked
17:40 fellow students as well as staff and The
17:44 Wider Community holding vigils
17:46 the car was parked down this quiet
17:49 secluded side street which is actually a
17:51 dead end there are terraced houses
17:54 either side Libby was last seen on the
17:57 main road there about 20 Paces from
18:00 where I am now the car was here for
18:03 approximately 20 minutes before it drove
18:05 off down this road at exactly the same
18:07 time that it's believed Libby disappeared
18:09 disappeared
18:11 the person they had arrested would turn
18:14 out to be 24 year old Pavel relovich a
18:16 married father of two who worked as a butcher
18:17 butcher
18:19 Pavel had moved to the UK from Poland as
18:21 a teenager and went to a catering
18:23 College near Hull
18:25 and as well as being arrested on
18:27 suspicion of the Abduction of Libby he
18:30 was also arrested for sexual offenses
18:31 they finally had their person of
18:34 interest in custody
18:36 neighbors said all they saw was a
18:39 hard-working man someone who enjoyed the
18:41 gym baking and long walks with his young family
18:43 family
18:45 he was always friendly polite and smiley
18:48 there was nothing into Ward at all
18:51 but little did anyone know Pavel would
18:54 soon rack up a string of crimes and
18:56 police had actually just caught a very
18:58 dangerous individual
19:00 Pavel lived very close to where Libby
19:02 was last seen and the fields from where
19:04 the screams had come from
19:07 after taking his prince in a DNA sample
19:09 it turned out he was linked to several
19:13 other crimes going back almost two years
19:16 for a long time Pavel had been breaking
19:18 into people's homes peering through
19:21 Windows watching couples have sex and
19:23 following women on the streets often
19:25 exposing himself to them sometimes he
19:28 would break into houses steal underwear
19:31 and leave used condoms around
19:33 one woman woke up one night to find
19:35 Pavel staring at her through the glass
19:37 of her bedroom door
19:39 she texted her housemates who chased him
19:42 out and tried to get a photo but it just
19:44 wasn't clear enough another time he did
19:47 this it was actually on the same streets
19:48 that Libby lived on although
19:51 fingerprints were often lifted and DNA
19:53 was taken from the houses Pavel had no
19:55 criminal record and a match to him was
19:59 never made but now there was and a lot
20:01 of matches to say the least
20:03 according to sources it was fairly
20:05 obvious that Pavel was a sexual deviant
20:07 from an early age and by his own
20:10 admission he was unable to control his
20:12 urges and had an addiction to hardcore
20:14 and violent pornography
20:16 he would often tell his wife he was
20:19 going for an evening run but instead he
20:21 would prowl the streets looking for open
20:23 Windows to look in or climb through or
20:25 women walking alone so he could follow
20:28 them and expose himself
20:30 it had now been seven days since Libby
20:32 had gone missing and the police were
20:34 conducting a thorough review of their
20:36 person of interests house and vehicle
20:38 whilst his house turned up nothing
20:41 inside his vehicle was a different story
20:44 there was dirty underwear sex toys used
20:47 condoms photographs of women clearly
20:49 taken without their permission and
20:51 various items that he had stolen from
20:53 houses when he was asked about Libby he
20:55 denied having ever seen her in his life
20:58 but when the CCTV was put to him he
21:01 changed his story saying he had picked
21:03 her up that night to help her calling
21:05 himself a Good Samaritan and offered to
21:07 take her home
21:09 he said he drove her to Oak fields and
21:11 then drove off he then went back to his
21:13 house where he had a bath and watched
21:15 pornography on his phone
21:18 it wasn't quite an admission but it was
21:20 enough to at least Place him at the
21:21 scene and given What the residents had
21:23 said about the screams they knew there
21:25 was far more to this story
21:27 detectives said they felt this was
21:29 probably no longer a missing person's
21:32 case and that Libby had been met with harm
21:33 harm
21:35 they had enough to formally charge Pavel
21:38 with 13 sexual offenses from various
21:40 points in time but they were told there
21:43 still wasn't enough to link him directly
21:52 seven weeks after Libby had gone missing
21:55 the case would take a huge shift a
21:57 fisherman in the Humber estuary found a
22:00 badly decomposing body floating in the
22:02 water around the neck was a little
22:06 necklace with the letter L on it [Music]
22:12 after seven weeks Libby's family were
22:14 told yesterday that her body had been
22:17 found in the Humber Estuary tonight they
22:19 got the news they'd been dreading as
22:23 police confirmed it was Libby's body a
22:25 post-mortem examination that began this
22:28 afternoon continues tonight as police
22:30 try to establish what caused Libby's
22:32 death they say this is a hugely
22:34 distressing time for her family and a
22:36 very difficult time for all those who've
22:39 been involved in the investigation over
22:40 the last seven weeks
22:43 the University of Hull has released a
22:45 statement saying our hearts go out to
22:47 Libby's family and friends at this
22:49 incredibly difficult time and we will
22:52 continue to give them our full support
22:54 a 24 year old man arrested in connection
22:57 with Libby's disappearance remains under
22:59 investigation at the place where she was
23:01 last seen tonight people have already
23:07 testing confirmed that Libby had been
23:10 raped before being killed her body was
23:12 so severely decomposed that it was not
23:14 possible to determine a cause of death
23:17 and it was unconfirmed whether she was
23:18 already dead when she went into the
23:21 water or not the pathologist said she
23:23 could have died from asphyxiation or
23:26 drowning but could not be certain but
23:28 police felt confident that her body had
23:30 been pushed into the river hole behind
23:32 the fields and she had floated out into
23:34 the river Humber
23:37 everyone was devastated and Lisa was
23:39 even more upset when she found out where
23:42 her daughter's body had been found Libby
23:44 had a huge fear of water and wasn't a
23:46 strong swimmer wondering whether she was
23:48 alive or not when she went into the
23:51 river only added to the Heartbreak Lisa said
23:56 as word started to spread that this was
23:58 now a murder inquiry Lisa posted to
24:00 Facebook and said I cannot thank you
24:02 enough my darling pie for making me a
24:05 mummy for choosing me to be your mummy I
24:08 kept you safe for as long as I could and
24:10 I am so sorry I could not keep you safe
24:11 on that night
24:20 [Music]
24:25 it was now August 2019 seven long months
24:27 since Libby had first Gone Missing Pavel
24:29 was now due in court to face the other
24:32 charges which he was pleading not guilty
24:34 to however he changed his plea last
24:36 minute and entered a plea of guilty to
24:39 nine counts in total four counts of
24:41 voyeurism two counts of outraging public
24:43 decency and three counts of burglary
24:48 between 2017 and 2019 he was sentenced
24:50 to eight and a half years but this was
24:52 reduced to just under six after a
24:54 successful appeal authorities were
24:56 thankful he was now locked up and they
24:58 continued their investigations into him
25:00 without fear of him fleeing the country
25:02 all they could do was continue to build
25:04 their case against Pavel looking through
25:06 quite literally thousands of hours of
25:08 footage to further solidify his
25:10 movements on the night that Libby had
25:11 got into his car [Music]
25:13 [Music]
25:16 morphett had showed him driving back out
25:18 to the same location at about 2 30 in
25:21 the morning just two hours after he was
25:23 initially there with her he stayed for a
25:25 few minutes before heading back into
25:27 town which is when he exposed himself to
25:30 the women on the streets this was the
25:33 final piece they needed Pavel would have
25:36 no reason to go back there unless he was
25:38 concealing things and covering up evidence
25:39 evidence
25:42 more tests also came back after months
25:45 of waiting these showed that pavel's DNA
25:48 was on and inside Libby's body
25:51 Pavel then changed his story he said
25:53 that Libby had essentially thrown
25:55 herself at him and the pair had had
25:57 consensual sex in the fields before he
25:59 left her there but it was clear that
26:01 this was not the truth and detectives
26:04 now had enough to again put forward
26:06 their case hoping to be allowed to file
26:09 charges for rape and murder
26:13 while they waited in October 2019 almost
26:28 just two weeks after this the police
26:30 made the announcement that they had been
26:32 hoping to make for so long and won the
26:34 public had been waiting for
26:37 after Consulting with prosecutors Pavel
26:39 relovich was charged with the rape and
26:42 murder of Libby Squire as he was read
26:44 the charges in the police car via a
26:47 translator he started to laugh appearing
26:50 completely unfazed his own mother said I
26:52 know in my heart that Pavel did not do
26:54 anything to this girl he is a good boy
26:57 he respects women she added however that
26:58 her heart was breaking for The Squire
27:00 family and said that if it turned out
27:03 her son had done something he should be
27:12 Pavel plea did not guilty maintaining
27:13 his story of it being a casual
27:16 consensual hookup and the trial after
27:19 many delays due to the pandemic finally
27:22 began in January of 2021
27:25 the prosecution put forward a damning
27:27 case Pavel was a highly dangerous
27:30 predator whose crimes had escalated to
27:32 such a degree that he was willing to do
27:34 anything to fulfill his sexual perversions
27:35 perversions
27:38 he saw women as objects and got a thrill
27:40 out of frightening them from the second
27:44 he saw Libby that night alone cold upset
27:47 and vulnerable she she was his targets
27:49 and he knew instantly what he was going
27:52 to do the second she got into his car
27:55 they said if it wasn't Libby it would
27:57 have been someone else sober or
28:00 intoxicated on that day or another he
28:02 was intent on raping and most likely
28:04 killing someone and it just so happened
28:07 to be Libby on that fateful night
28:09 but the defense were focused on the less
28:11 than 10 minute window he would have had
28:12 to commit the crime
28:15 if his car pulled into the fields at 12
28:17 11 and the screams were heard at 12 14
28:20 and then he was back out and driving by
28:22 20 past 12. it left a less than 10
28:24 minute window for all of this to happen
28:27 in but the prosecution said it was
28:29 absolutely possible given the fact that
28:32 Libby was probably unable to fight back
28:34 and steady on her feet and Pavel was
28:37 incredibly fit and determined in that
28:39 moment to do what he ultimately did
28:41 prosecutors also said they didn't have
28:43 to prove that he had done absolutely
28:45 everything in that small window either
28:49 the DNA evidence and the CCTV spoke for
28:51 itself given the fact he returned to the
28:53 scene two hours later anyway this was
28:55 the time he could have easily cleaned up
28:58 the evidence and moved Libby's body
29:00 prosecutors said that it was clear he
29:02 was always looking for more to push
29:04 things further and when breaking into
29:06 homes and watching women was no longer
29:09 fulfilling it would only be a matter of
29:12 time before he took it further still to
29:14 satisfy his urges and the reason he was
29:16 getting more Brazen with his crimes was
29:18 because he could he was getting away
29:21 with it time and time again
29:23 after a difficult trial lasting two
29:32 breaking news on the Libby Squire murder
29:35 trial and parvo relevich has been found
29:37 guilty at Sheffield Crown Court of
29:40 raping and murdering the hull University
29:43 student Libby Squires guys Katarina
29:45 vertotsi is live outside Sheffield Crown
29:48 Court for us yes just in the last few
29:49 minutes the jury which has been
29:52 deliberating for five days now coming
29:55 back with guilty verdicts for both
29:58 counts of murder and rape but relovich
30:00 and his defense team throughout saying
30:04 that although he did admit to having sex
30:07 with the University student he said that
30:10 was consensual but a jury now deciding
30:12 that in fact it was rape and that he
30:19 he was found guilty by an 11 to 1 majority
30:20 majority
30:23 he was later jailed for life with a
30:25 minimum term of 27 years
30:28 upon sentencing him the judge said that
30:30 Libby did not stand a chance that night
30:32 and said that Pavel may never be
30:35 released and if he is he will be
30:38 monitored for the rest of his days
30:40 he called the whole case unimaginatively
30:42 harrowing if he is successful in his
30:45 parole applications he will be in his
30:56 but firstly we would like to thank
30:57 everybody for their love and support
30:59 over the last two years we've both
31:01 really appreciated it our special thanks
31:03 go out to the police teams and the other
31:05 agencies that were involved with Libby's
31:08 case from the outset through to today
31:10 as a family today's verdict changes
31:13 nothing for us there is no closure we
31:15 don't get to have Libby back and our
31:17 lives don't revert back to normal
31:19 however we are pleased that all the hard
31:21 work and dedication of the police and
31:24 legal teams has been recognized
31:26 Libby will always be with us and we are
31:28 all so proud of our beautiful caring
31:29 wonderful girl
31:30 and although she has been physically
31:32 taken from us the members we have and
31:35 the love we share will never be taken
31:43 after his conviction his wife separated
31:45 from him and moved back to Poland she
31:47 maintains to this day that their
31:49 relationship was nothing but good and
31:50 she was horrified when everything came
31:58 Lisa remains committed to campaigning to
32:00 change the laws around non-contact sex
32:03 offenses asking for harsher sentences
32:06 police joined forces with the Squire
32:08 family with a campaign that urged people
32:10 to report what is considered low-level
32:12 sex offenses
32:14 Lisa even had a meeting with the then
32:16 prime minister Boris Johnson where she
32:18 argued that whole life tariffs should be
32:21 automatic for anyone convicted of murder
32:23 she said that Boris Johnson told her
32:25 there aren't the prison spaces
32:28 Lisa responded will then build more
32:30 prisons it's as simple as that anyone
32:32 who goes out and takes a life should be
32:35 given a whole life tariff end of in 27
32:37 years Libby doesn't come back I don't
32:39 get my daughter back my children don't
32:42 get to have their sister back we have a
32:44 whole life sentence to live
32:47 in 2022 Lisa said she wanted to meet
32:49 with Pavel in prison to talk about what
32:51 had happened that night
32:52 Pavel agreed
32:55 a lot of people don't understand this I
32:58 don't hate him I'm not angry with him I
33:00 just want information from him I don't
33:02 wish to forgive him I don't wish to
33:05 understand why he did what he did for me
33:07 it's very much about finding out how she
33:09 was in those last 20 minutes of her life
33:11 it's actually quite a brave thing for
33:13 him to do to agree to see me in the
33:15 first place is a big thing and I am
33:18 grateful nothing he can tell me can be
33:19 worse than what goes on in my
33:22 imagination Lisa said
33:25 but in February 2023 Pavel retracted the
33:27 agreement saying he felt that he had
33:29 been portrayed as a bad person in the
33:31 media because of the Squire family and
33:34 as a result he no longer wanted to talk
33:35 to Lisa
33:37 Felisa who quite frankly had shown
33:40 nothing but Grace towards him it was a
33:42 huge blow and clearly his way of keeping
33:45 some elements of control until the end
33:47 Libby's family have continued to show an
33:49 unwavering level of decorum and strength
33:52 channeling all their energy and efforts
33:54 into hopefully making changes to the
33:57 laws and keep Libby's memory alive Lisa
33:59 said every morning in that lull between
34:02 sleep and waking up I still think life
34:04 is normal then I wake up and remember
34:05 Libby is gone
34:08 sometimes the grief takes me by surprise
34:10 looking at pictures of Libby that I've
34:12 looked at a million times in tears
34:14 thinking why has someone taken this
