0:02 good morning everyone from Gansu
0:05 Province the sun is about to come up
0:07 behind this big chunky mountain in front
0:10 of us and once the Sun's Up I have a
0:14 whole day of adventures coming up so
0:42 the sun is finally up and this is not
0:45 like your normal Sunrise where the sun
0:47 is kind of soft and warm at first
0:48 because it came up from behind a
0:50 mountain it's like blazing glaring right
0:53 in your eyeball like a laser but it's
0:55 beautiful nevertheless look at that mist down
0:57 down
1:00 there look at that sky look at those
1:03 trees look at that mountain yes today's
1:05 going to be a beautiful day and I'm
1:07 going to take you guys with me this is
1:10 Gan one of various Tibetan autonomous
1:12 prefectures scattered throughout Western
1:14 and Central China where Tibetan culture
1:16 architecture and language dominate the
1:18 landscape and today we're going to be
1:38 apparently this horse is only at 2 years
1:42 old so he or she I didn't look he or she
1:44 is very shy and uh doesn't like to be
1:46 near the crowd but that's okay cuz it
1:47 feels like a private tour because
1:49 everyone else is way ahead and I'm just
1:51 here chilling enjoying the scenery it's
2:28 on the way to this Village we passed by
2:30 countless tents of hurting families
2:32 scattered throughout the hills and
2:34 grasslands but many people are leaving
2:37 behind this lifestyle we pass through a
2:38 village where hurting families are now
2:41 living in houses year round during the
2:44 warm summer months they run airbnbs for
2:46 tourists and all year round they sell
3:00 grasslands [Music]
3:15 shy horse has finally rejoined the herd rejoined
3:17 rejoined
3:30 friends [Music]
3:47 we spent one night in Deo and people
3:48 tend to have a perception of western
3:50 China as being behind or not as
3:53 developed but this city felt as clean
3:55 and modernized as any other city in Eastern
3:56 Eastern [Music]
3:58 [Music] China
4:00 China
4:02 on top of that if you take a closer look
4:04 you'll find that it's retained many
4:06 aspects of the various ethnic minority
4:08 cultures that inhabit it everyone is
4:10 preserving and celebrating their culture
4:12 in their own [Music]
4:29 way [Music]
5:00 we've seen the sunrise eyes we've seen
5:02 the nature we've seen the horses now
5:04 it's time to check out one of the local
5:06 Villages there are literally mountains
5:08 on every side look at this mountains over
5:09 over
5:11 here mountains over
5:13 there and
5:16 mountains mountains over
5:29 everywhere of course we also tried some local
5:40 Delicacies one of which was zanga which
5:42 is kind of like a paste made out of
5:45 baked flour milk tea and butter I'm not
5:47 going to lie it really wasn't my thing
5:49 on the other hand this big yellow
5:51 Behemoth over here and the Tibetan
5:54 flatbread got my attention so this thing
5:56 over here is kind of like a combination
5:58 of butter and cheese you put it between
6:01 this traditional bread and this is good
6:04 stuff this is a quality item right here
6:07 look at that it's like the flavor of
6:10 butter but with the texture of cheese
6:57 for I'm really happy to see stuff under
6:59 construction in this Village because so
7:01 many villages in China are having a
7:03 serious issue with losing young people
7:05 their populations are getting smaller
7:06 and smaller and smaller but the fact
7:08 that people are building things here and
7:10 quite a few things actually look at all
7:13 this it shows that the tourism industry
7:14 is really bringing a lot of Revenue to
7:17 this place and should help keep people
7:18 interested in living in this Village
7:20 long term and because the main source of
7:22 income for this place is tourism they
7:25 have a big motivation to retain the
7:26 traditional look of the village because
7:28 that's like half of why people come here
7:30 so even though lot of new stuff is under
7:32 construction they're going to continue
7:33 making it in the style that this Village
7:36 is known for so they can retain that
7:38 original atmosphere and also it's really
7:40 obvious just from walking around here
7:41 that these construction projects are
7:43 being done by the local people it's not
7:44 like people from outside are coming in
7:45 here and like taking over this Village
7:47 for commercial purposes because I mean
7:49 if you think about it why do people
7:50 visit this place in the first place it's
7:52 because they want a taste of Tibetan
7:54 culture so of course you would hope that
7:55 the hotel you're staying at or the
7:57 restaurants you're eating at is actually
7:59 run by local people and that they are
8:02 the ones who are benefiting economically
8:04 from this business opportunity Tibetans
8:06 are the soul of this place if they're
8:09 not here what's the point fortunately
8:10 lots of local people are taking
8:12 advantage of the tourism boom even
8:14 elderly people such as this grandpa I
8:27 Airbnb honestly I have no idea which one
8:28 it is we've got a bit of a language
8:31 barrier here here but I'm happy for him
9:06 everyone here is so friendly although
9:08 I'm not going to lie it is a little bit
9:10 tough to communicate with them because
9:12 Tibetan is their first language Chinese
9:14 is the language used in schools in the
9:16 city but in rural areas like this
9:18 according to this morning's horse guide
9:20 all the main subjects are taught in
9:22 tibetan and then students have a
9:24 specific Mandarin class pretty much
9:25 everyone especially the younger
9:27 Generations speaks Mandarin but it's a
9:33 usually when I see people drying
9:36 vegetables or drying grains it's done on
9:38 the ground or some things will be hung
9:40 on like a string or whatever but this
9:50 things oh my gosh the mother load of
9:53 these things is coming look at this
9:56 they're everywhere and they're huge look
10:09 snazzy I see you you little rascal
10:11 eating everybody's
10:14 crops yeah I see
10:17 you in China Villages are disappearing
10:19 at a super fast rate all over the
10:21 country many members of the younger
10:23 generation just don't want to live the
10:25 rough hurting life or deal with the
10:27 chores of being a small farmer when
10:29 there are less exhausting and more well
10:31 paying jobs available in towns and
10:34 cities but the combination of natural
10:35 beauty and cultural uniqueness that
10:38 Chana has makes it very appealing to
10:40 tourists and countless locals have
10:41 gotten in on the sudden tourism
10:44 development ironically the influx of
10:46 visitors from other provinces and even
10:48 other countries may just be what is
10:50 needed to preserve this place's local
10:53 culture for generations to come I hope
10:55 you guys enjoyed your time here and I
10:58 will see you in the next video
