0:02 Nobody likes getting burned on a car
0:05 deal, but for the buyers of certain 2024
0:08 models, the pain is all too real because
0:10 their vehicles tanked in value in as
0:13 little as a year. Resale value matters,
0:15 unless you're filthy, stinking rich, and
0:17 don't mind tossing tens of thousands of
0:20 dollars into thin air. Today, we're
0:22 breaking down the cars and SUVs that
0:26 lost the most value from 2024 to 2025
0:29 based on fresh data from Car Edge.
0:31 Buckle up because this list goes from
0:34 bad to worse.
0:38 Number 13, 2024 Nissan Morano. The
0:41 Nissan Morano is one of those SUVs that
0:44 quietly stuck around for years and maybe
0:47 stayed a little too long. The 2024 model
0:49 marked the end of its generation, and
0:52 that spells disaster for resale value.
0:55 In just one year, the 2024 Morano lost a
0:59 painful 30.9% of its value, dropping
1:04 from an average selling price of $48,453
1:07 down to about $33,460.
1:10 That's a loss of nearly $15,000
1:13 gone before you've even hit your first
1:15 service interval. So, why the massive
1:18 drop? Well, for starters, the Morano was
1:21 still riding on a platform from 2015.
1:24 And when the fully redesigned 2025 model
1:27 arrived with updated styling, tech, and
1:29 performance, it instantly made the 2024
1:32 version feel outdated. So, demand for
1:34 the outgoing model tanked. Then there's
1:37 Nissan's infamous CVT transmission.
1:39 While it's improved over the years, it
1:42 still carries a reputation for long-term
1:44 reliability issues, especially in older
1:47 designs like this one. If you find one
1:49 on the used market, the price might be
1:51 tempting, but don't expect it to hold
1:54 value. This is one of the fastest
1:57 depreciating SUVs of the year.
2:01 Number 12, 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
2:04 Buyers who picked up a 2024 Jeep Grand
2:07 Cherokee Last year paid a premium, an
2:10 average of $54,852.
2:13 But just 12 months later, it's now worth
2:16 around $36,876,
2:19 sinking nearly $18,000 in value. That's
2:22 a brutal 32.8%
2:24 depreciation hit. And it's not just
2:26 market forces driving the drop. So,
2:29 what's the story here? For starters, the
2:32 Grand Cherokee L's reliability is in
2:34 trouble. Consumer Reports gave it very
2:36 low marks, citing ongoing electrical
2:39 issues and build quality problems. In a
2:41 competitive SUV market, that kind of
2:44 reputation kills resale value. Then
2:47 there's the 2025 model. Instead of
2:49 drawing interest, it's sitting untouched
2:52 on dealer lots. Why? Buyers have caught
2:54 on. The value just isn't there,
2:57 especially at premium pricing. That's
2:59 left dealerships with bloated inventory,
3:02 forcing prices on used models to crash
3:04 even harder. And here's the kicker.
3:06 Buyers last year thought they were
3:08 getting luxury. But with poor
3:10 reliability and mounting issues, the
3:14 market is now correcting that mistake.
3:18 Number 11, 2024 Ford Edge.
3:20 The Ford Edge is quietly disappearing
3:23 and the resale market is reacting fast.
3:25 Ford officially discontinued the Edge
3:28 after 2024, which instantly hurt
3:30 confidence in long-term value. But
3:33 here's the kicker. Ford sold a ton of
3:35 these final year models to fleet and
3:37 rental companies, and now those vehicles
3:39 are flooding the used market. When
3:41 rental companies offload thousands of
3:43 lightly used edges at the same time,
3:46 prices nose dive. That's exactly what's
3:49 happening. This high supply of off-fleet
3:51 inventory is creating massive downward
3:54 pressure on used values. And because the
3:56 Edge has always been a bit of a sleeper,
3:58 not flashy, not buzzworthy, it's just
4:01 not on most buyers radar. That said, if
4:03 you're in the market for a no fuss
4:05 midsize SUV and don't care about having
4:08 the latest tech or a luxury badge, the
4:10 Edge might actually be one of the best
4:12 deals on the used lot right now. In just
4:16 one year, the 2024 Ford Edge lost 34.2%
4:20 2% of its value, dropping from $46,385
4:23 to about $30,500
4:33 Number 10, 2024 Chrysler Pacifica.
4:35 The Chrysler Pacifica might look like
4:38 the ultimate family van. roomy, loaded
4:39 with features, and even offered as a
4:42 plug-in hybrid. But buyers who paid an
4:45 average of $57,331
4:48 for a 2024 model have taken a serious
4:50 hit. Just one year later, the Pacifica
4:53 is worth around $37,600,
4:58 a brutal loss of nearly $20,000 or 30.3%
5:01 of its value. One of the biggest factors
5:03 is Chrysler's weak brand perception.
5:06 Across three, five, and seven-year
5:08 periods, Chrysler ranks near the bottom
5:11 of resale value, and that stigma follows
5:14 the Pacifica. Add to that a higher MSRP
5:16 than rivals like the Honda Odyssey or
5:19 Kia Carnival, and the math gets ugly. As
5:22 one frustrated owner put it, anyone
5:24 buying a new Pacifica nowadays is
5:26 overpaying if they pay anywhere close to
5:29 MSRP. Then there's reliability. The
5:31 Pacifica Hybrid, in particular, has
5:33 drawn complaints of electrical problems
5:36 that can leave the van undrivable for
5:39 weeks. The Pentastar V6 under the hood
5:42 isn't bulletproof either.
5:46 Number nine, 2024 Dodge Hornet.
5:48 The Dodge Hornet was supposed to be a
5:50 bold new entry for Dodge. An affordable
5:53 compact crossover with sporty looks, a
5:55 turbocharged engine, and even a plug-in
5:57 hybrid option. But less than a year
5:59 later, it's already clear that this
6:02 Stalantis experiment isn't holding its
6:04 value. With an average selling price of $40,764,
6:06 $40,764,
6:10 the 2024 Hornet has lost about 36.5%
6:13 in just one year, wiping out nearly $14,900
6:15 $14,900
6:18 in value. So, why is it depreciating so
6:21 quickly? For starters, Dodge has spent
6:23 decades building its reputation around
6:26 muscle cars, not small crossovers.
6:29 Buyers who wanted a compact SUV had
6:31 plenty of options from Toyota, Honda,
6:34 and Hyundai. Then there's the Stalantis
6:36 factor. The Hornet is essentially a
6:39 rebadged Alfa Romeo Tonale. A fact not
6:41 lost on car enthusiasts. And that's a
6:44 problem. Alfa Romeo struggles with
6:46 quality and reliability perception, and
6:49 the Hornet inherited that badge. Many
6:51 see it as an overpriced clone rather
6:54 than a distinct Dodge product.
6:58 Number eight, 2024 Nissan Armada.
7:00 The Nissan Armada has always been about
7:04 size, space, and V8 power. But in 2024,
7:06 that formula came with a painful
7:09 downside. Buyers who paid an average of $76,369
7:12 $76,369
7:14 for a brand new Armada are now looking
7:19 at used values around $46,349.
7:22 a staggering loss of $30,020
7:26 in just one year. That's a 39.3%
7:29 depreciation hit. The biggest problem,
7:32 timing. The 2024 Armada was the last
7:36 model to use Nissan's thirsty 5.6 L V8.
7:38 For 2025, Nissan launched a redesigned
7:42 Armada with a 425 horsepower twinturbo
7:45 V6. More powerful, far more efficient,
7:48 and loaded with modern updates. The
7:50 second that model hit the market, demand
7:53 for the outgoing V8 version collapsed.
7:55 The full-size SUV segment is highly
7:57 competitive with models like the Chevy
8:00 Tahoe and Toyota Seoia offering better
8:02 value and stronger reputations. And then
8:05 there's Nissan's brand reputation.
8:07 Nissan doesn't command strong resale
8:10 loyalty in the big SUV space in the US.
8:12 Buyers know it and the market reflects
8:15 it. For used shoppers, the steep
8:17 depreciation means the Armada can be
8:19 found at a relative discount compared to
8:21 rivals. But for those who bought it new
8:24 last year, the wallet shock is real.
8:27 Before we move on to the next SUV, if
8:29 you're enjoying this video so far, take
8:32 a second to hit that like button.
8:36 Number seven, 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4XE. If
8:38 you're shopping for a used Wrangler, you
8:40 may have noticed something unusual.
8:44 There are tons of 2024 Wrangler 4xe
8:46 models for sale, many with extremely low
8:49 mileage, and there's a reason for that.
8:53 Buyers are bailing out early. In 2024,
8:56 the Wrangler 4XE sold for an average of $64,421.
8:58 $64,421.
9:01 Just one year later, values have tumbled
9:04 to about $38,683.
9:09 That's a staggering loss of $25,738
9:13 or 40% of its value in only 12 months.
9:16 So, what went wrong? The plug-in hybrid
9:18 formula hasn't lived up to the hype.
9:21 With about 20 mi of electric range, it
9:23 sounds good on paper, but in realworld
9:25 driving, it doesn't transform the
9:27 ownership experience. Once the small
9:30 battery is drained, the Wrangler 4xe
9:34 drives like a heavy, thirsty gas SUV.
9:36 Second, reliability and complexity.
9:38 Owners have reported electrical
9:40 glitches, charging issues, and software
9:43 bugs. The result, a flood of nearly new
9:46 4xe hitting the market and some of the
9:49 steepest depreciation of any SUV this
9:55 year. Number six, 2024 Toyota BZ4X.
9:57 Toyota has a legendary reputation for
9:59 building cars that hold their value, but
10:02 the BZ4X is proving to be the problem
10:05 child. Back in 2024, the average selling
10:14 Today, the same SUV is worth only about $25,227.
10:17 $25,227.
10:20 That's 41% of its value gone in just 12
10:23 months. So, why is Toyota's first big EV
10:26 struggling this badly? For starters, a
10:29 disastrous launch. The BZ4X had one of
10:32 the most embarrassing recalls in recent
10:34 memory where wheels could literally
10:36 detach while driving. Even though Toyota
10:39 fixed it, the damage to buyer confidence
10:42 was done. Then there's the competition.
10:44 Tesla continues slashing prices. While
10:46 Hyundai and Kia are pushing EVs with
10:49 more range, faster charging, and better
10:52 tech against rivals offering 300 plus
10:56 miles of range, the BZ4X's 250 mi just
10:59 doesn't cut it. And here's the kicker.
11:02 Toyota's own hybrids are cannibalizing
11:05 demand. Shoppers are skipping the BZ4X
11:07 for proven options like the RAV 4 hybrid
11:10 or Prime. Vehicles that deliver
11:12 efficiency and resale value without the
11:16 growing pains of Toyota's first EV.
11:20 Number five, 2024 Subaru Sulttera.
11:23 If the Toyota BZ4X is struggling, it's
11:26 no surprise it's twin is too. The Subaru
11:29 Sultterra was co-developed with Toyota,
11:31 sharing the same platform, powertrain,
11:33 and most of the same weaknesses. In
11:36 2024, the Sulttera sold for an average
11:41 One year later, it's worth only about $26,698,
11:44 $26,698,
11:48 losing $18,842,
11:50 a 41.4%
11:52 drop in value.
11:56 Number four, 2024 Nissan Leaf.
11:59 The Nissan Leaf deserves credit. It was
12:01 one of the first modern electric cars to
12:04 hit the mainstream. But by 2024, its
12:06 head start had turned into a
12:08 disadvantage. With an average selling
12:11 price of $35,318,
12:15 the Leaf lost about $14,867
12:19 in just one year, dropping 42.1% in
12:21 value. The Leaf was discontinued after
12:24 the 2024 model year. that instantly
12:26 crushed buyer confidence since no one
12:28 wants to invest in a vehicle that's been
12:31 retired with no clear successor. But the
12:34 problems run deeper. Range anxiety is
12:37 real. While today's competitors push 250
12:40 to 300 m per charge, the Leaf maxes out
12:44 at around 212 mi, and base trims fall
12:47 well below that. For modern EV buyers,
12:50 that's just not enough.
12:54 Number three, 2024 Nissan Arya.
12:57 The Arya was supposed to be Nissan's big
13:00 EV comeback after the aging Leaf. Sleek
13:03 styling, modern tech, and up to 304 mi
13:05 of range on paper gave it potential, but
13:08 in practice, buyers aren't biting, and
13:10 resale values are already falling hard.
13:13 In 2024, the Arya sold for an average of $52,174.
13:18 Just one year later, it's worth around $30,58,
13:20 $30,58,
13:23 losing $22,116
13:26 in value, or 42.4%
13:29 of its original price. So, what's going
13:32 wrong? First, price positioning. The
13:34 Arya launched into the same price range
13:36 as the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ionic
13:39 5, both of which offered more buzz,
13:41 better charging networks, and stronger
13:43 brand appeal. Against that kind of
13:46 competition, the Arya felt overpriced.
13:48 Second, charging limitations. While it
13:51 supports CCS fast charging, speeds lag
13:54 behind rivals. And with Nissan's poor
13:55 track record of supporting its EVs
13:58 longterm, buyers aren't confident the
14:00 Arya will age gracefully. And finally,
14:03 inventory issues. Brand new Arya models
14:05 piling up on dealer lots with Nissan
14:08 offering heavy discounts to move them.
14:10 that immediately hammered resale value
14:12 since buyers realized they could get a
14:14 brand new one for not much more than a
14:16 used one.
14:21 Number two, 2024 Volkswagen ID4.
14:23 Not long ago, Volkswagen was calling the
14:26 ID4 its EV game changer. The model that
14:28 would take on Tesla and win over the
14:30 masses. But if you check today's used
14:33 car listings, it tells a very different
14:36 story. In 2024, the ID4 sold for an
14:40 average of $54,413.
14:42 Just one year later, it's worth about $26,518.
14:45 $26,518.
14:50 A crushing loss of $27,895,
14:52 or more than half its value gone in a
14:55 single year. The downfall comes down to
14:58 three big problems. First, price cuts.
15:00 Volkswagen has been offering massive
15:03 discounts and dealer incentives on brand
15:06 new ID4s, which instantly dragged down
15:09 the resale market. Second, software.
15:11 Volkswagen's infotainment has been
15:14 widely criticized as clunky, buggy, and
15:16 frustrating for techfocused EV shoppers.
15:19 That's a deal breakaker.
15:23 Number one, 2024 Toyota Marai. The
15:26 Toyota badge usually means bulletproof
15:30 resale value, but the 2024 Marai, it's
15:33 the exact opposite. Buyers who paid an
15:36 average of $64,000 for one are now
15:40 seeing values around $22,640
15:44 just a year later. That's a jaw-dropping $41,379
15:46 $41,379
15:49 loss or 64.6%
15:52 of its value gone in only 12 months. the
15:55 single worst depreciation hit of any car
15:58 this year. So, what went so wrong? The
16:01 short answer, hydrogen. The Marai runs
16:03 on hydrogen fuel cells, which sounds
16:06 futuristic, but in reality, it's a dead
16:09 end. Outside of California, hydrogen
16:10 fueling stations are basically
16:13 non-existent. Even in California, the
16:14 network has struggled with closures,
16:18 shortages, and skyhigh fuel prices. For
16:20 most buyers, owning a Marai means
16:23 constant range anxiety. not freedom.
16:26 Second, demand collapsed. Toyota heavily
16:28 subsidized the Mariah at launch, piling
16:30 on incentives and fuel credits, but that
16:33 only set it up for a harder fall later.
16:36 Once the discounts faded and resale
16:38 values became public, confidence
16:41 vanished. The result, a vehicle that was
16:43 supposed to showcase Toyota's innovation
16:45 has instead become the worst
16:48 depreciating car of 2025. For owners,
16:51 it's a financial nightmare. For everyone
16:54 else, it's a lesson. Sometimes being
16:56 first doesn't mean being right. And
16:58 that's the full list. Every vehicle
17:01 depreciates in value over time. But the
17:03 kind of crashes we just went through,
17:06 that's on another level. Losing 30, 40,
17:09 even 60% of value in just a year is
17:13 absurd. Which one shocked you the most?
17:15 Let me know in the comments. And if you
17:16 enjoyed this breakdown, don't forget to
