0:01 can I tell you a secret over the last 5
0:03 years I've helped hundreds of business
0:05 owners grow their YouTube followings and
0:07 they all have one big problem in common
0:09 they find coming up with thumbnails
0:11 incredibly hard and insanely time
0:13 consuming the thing is it doesn't have
0:14 to be that way because there's a
0:16 thumbnail style that's faster and easier
0:19 to make and is incredibly effective at
0:21 blowing up channels so in this video I'm
0:22 going to show you what it is how to make
0:24 it and how to split test it so that you
0:26 can use it to get more views and then
0:28 drive more people to your products and
0:29 services and if you're struggling to
0:30 come up with ideas for your next video
0:31 just try this out and let me know how
0:33 you get on in the comments so to start
0:35 let's look at a channel exploding using
0:37 this method and you can see how
0:38 effective it's been from their social
0:40 blade data on screen right now what's
0:42 great about their strategy is they keep
0:44 their images so simple like anyone could
0:46 make these and the channel is called a
0:47 Diary of a CEO and all they do is they
0:49 use a face and some simple text in their
0:52 image that's it but we need to go one
0:53 level deeper to understand what's
0:55 actually going on here to get these sort
0:56 of insane results so that you can
0:58 actually use it too so this fun in
0:59 particular I want you to take notice of
1:01 so let me show you why it's so powerful
1:02 and how other channels are using the
1:04 same system so you don't think this is a
1:06 one-off for example this image it's very
1:08 simple but it's using the exact same
1:10 strategy as well as this one here and
1:11 here's me using it on my old Channel
1:13 film Booth so why are these so powerful
1:15 for generating views the reason these
1:16 thumbnails have help the videos explode
1:18 comes down to a few things firstly they
1:20 are very simple and they're designed so
1:21 that the text is the first thing that
1:23 stands out if it didn't what happens
1:25 next just wouldn't be as effective so
1:27 it's critical that when you try this you
1:29 don't overdesign your images and make
1:31 the text a secondary part the Diary of
1:33 CEO thumbnails do this really well
1:34 because the highest point of contrast is
1:36 black and white and what that means is
1:38 the text pretty much couldn't stick out
1:40 anymore even if they tried I mean look
1:41 what happens when I use other colors
1:43 just doesn't work as well right now the
1:45 next reason and the most powerful is due
1:47 to this when we are presented with
1:48 information that conflicts with our
1:50 beliefs it creates a psychological
1:52 discomfort called cognitive dissonance
1:54 cognitive dissonance is a big word
1:55 that's used to describe feeling
1:56 uncomfortable when you have two
1:58 different beliefs or when your actions
2:01 don't match beliefs so for example we've
2:02 been told for ages that we need to have
2:04 8 hours sleep at night right and we've
2:05 been told to relax and then we've been
2:07 told we're visual Learners and of course
2:09 we're always told to upload videos so
2:11 people want to click just to find out
2:12 what the heck is going on because it
2:14 challenges what they thought to be true
2:15 these funns are amazing because it
2:17 suggest there's more to learn that we
2:18 maybe missed out on something important
2:20 and they click magnets because it builds
2:22 curiosity in us which is the key to
2:23 getting views but how do you make this
2:25 fun not St for yourself so you can blow
2:26 up your views in your business well step
2:28 one you just want to ask yourself based
2:30 on the topic I want to talk about what
2:32 do most people believe to be true that
2:33 maybe isn't if you're struggling for
2:35 ideas head over to chat GPT and type I
2:37 need some examples of things that could
2:39 create cognitive distance in the music
2:40 production Niche you would of course put
2:42 your own niche in there it'll then fire
2:44 out a list of examples and you know what
2:45 it's pretty good too here's a few
2:47 statements it came up with in relation
2:48 to the music production Niche it said
2:51 good marketing can make any song a hit
2:53 even if the production quality is poor
2:54 it also said you don't need to know
2:56 music theory to make songs it also said
2:57 expensive gear doesn't make your music
2:59 sound better knowing your tools does and
3:01 then you move on to the next step you
3:02 work out how to get this statement down
3:04 to four words or fewer although some of
3:06 my examples I showed you don't do this
3:07 as a general of thumb we want fewer
3:09 words so the thumbnail is faster for
3:10 people to read do not turn your
3:12 thumbnail into a title and then the
3:13 third step is and I touched on this
3:15 before you have to design so your text
3:17 sticks out first now a few simple ways
3:19 to do this are make the text the highest
3:20 point of contrast on the page which I
3:22 mentioned but also Point arrows at the
3:24 text and keep your design very simple so
3:26 nothing competes with it and that's why
3:27 I love these cuz they're easy step four
3:29 is all about context Ran's team used a
3:31 brain in the don't relax image as it
3:32 tells the viewer straight away what the
3:35 topic is related to now you could use
3:37 any item at all a person but really kind
3:39 of want to give visual context to what
3:40 the topic of the video is about or just
3:42 keep it very simple like Diary of a CEO
3:44 and let the words give that context now
3:46 I don't recommend you do this because
3:48 with no context well this video could be
3:50 about any Topic in the world right
3:51 another thing to be careful of is if
3:53 you're in the image make sure your
3:55 expression matches the statement too so
3:56 the days of over-the-top mouth open
3:58 thumbnails are dead especially if you
3:59 want to build credibility for your
4:01 business so think about the emotion you
4:02 want to convey and then see how you get
4:03 on now there's a few other things I
4:05 think are really important here too
4:08 firstly look at this which one FS more
4:09 credible to you pulling out steals from
4:11 a video should only be something you do
4:13 because you had no other option the
4:15 smart move is just to bad shoot a ton of
4:17 photos making different expressions with
4:20 a quality camera and lighting setup this
4:21 is going to give people a way stronger
4:23 first impression and then you can just
4:24 pick from all of those different photos
4:25 for every thumbnail you make you're
4:27 going to notice a lot on YouTube
4:28 especially the business channels they
4:30 use the same photos over and over again
4:31 because it saves so much time and you
4:33 don't need to reinvent the will for
4:34 every video this next part's genius
4:35 because you have to learn about what
4:37 appeals to your viewers if you really
4:39 want to get views and one amazing way to
4:40 do that is to make three versions of a
4:42 very simple thumbnail like this with
4:43 different words on them then you just
4:45 pick the one you think works best and
4:47 you launch it and then wait a few hours
4:49 and see how it performs and if it
4:50 doesn't do that well you can then switch
4:52 it to the next statement what can happen
4:53 is over the coming hours you can see
4:56 views Spike or maybe even decrease and
4:57 what this means is people are more
4:59 interested or they are less interested
5:01 and this is how you learn what appeals
5:03 to people and then what's even better is
5:04 let's say the views do Spike you can
5:06 reuse these words or very similar on a
5:08 new title or an old video to try and get
5:09 views in that so it's just such a good
5:11 way to learn about what your viewers
5:13 care about without having to spend days
5:15 doing multiple designs or you can use
5:17 the new YouTube split testing feature
5:19 where you simply load three thumbnails
5:20 in and then when you post your video you
5:22 wait a few hours for the data to load
5:24 now if you're a smaller Channel this
5:26 might take longer but when it does it's
5:27 going to tell you which option is
5:28 working the best for your audience
5:30 what's even better is you can run split
5:32 tests like this all of the time on old
5:34 videos too so you can learn faster about
5:35 what your viewers click on there is one
5:38 issue with this though so new and small
5:40 channels you guys don't really get
5:41 enough pressions to play around with
5:43 this yet so you'd have to put out a
5:45 video and then wait a lot longer before
5:46 you started to see any results but
5:48 either way it's critical you always have
5:50 at least three versions of every
5:51 thumbnail I mean look at this video it
5:53 was a 9 out of 10 when I launched it I
5:55 switched it to this thumbnail hey Presto
5:56 having just one thumbnail is a death
5:58 sentence for your content how is this
6:00 going to make you more money well for
6:02 those of you who have an offer more
6:04 views should equal more money if you
6:06 have your marketing set up well and you
6:07 haven't completely over complicated your
6:09 videos descriptions but for those of you
6:11 who don't every video you make is
6:12 training you to understand what your
6:13 viewers are interested in and when you
6:15 learn about what copy attracts them you
6:17 can use the same strategy all over the
6:18 place for for example you could use your
6:20 videoos packaging as a hook to drive
6:22 attention towards your email list or
6:23 when you do have an offer you could use
6:25 the same copy as a hook on your landing
6:27 page to help drive people down the page
6:29 and make them read more there small
6:30 YouTube all over the place using hooks
6:32 of this nature to grow their channels
6:33 and make big money and if you want to
6:34 know how else they generate six and
6:36 seven figure incomes from sometimes tiny
