0:01 So, for the first six weeks of uploading
0:03 to this channel, I was getting almost
0:06 zero views and zero subscribers. And it
0:08 got to a point where I realized I need
0:10 to switch something up. So, after making
0:12 just one small change, I reached my
0:15 first 1,000 subscribers just 8 days
0:18 later, which is absolutely mental. So,
0:19 in this video, I want to share with you
0:22 how I made that happen using that one
0:24 simple change, and how you can also use
0:25 it to get to your first 1,000
0:27 subscribers as well. Okay, so here we
0:30 are inside of my YouTube analytics. And
0:31 what we're looking at here is the first
0:33 6 weeks of the channel and you can see
0:35 there's not really much going on. So
0:36 we're getting 10 views, eight views,
0:38 some some days were even zero views. And
0:40 over the course of that entire 6 week
0:43 period, we gained 11 subscribers. And
0:44 it's important to note that all new
0:46 creators and all new YouTube channels
0:48 have a period like this where there's
0:50 nothing going on. And I call this the
0:52 dead zone. but also because the niche
0:54 I'm trying to get into is extremely
0:55 saturated, which by the way, if you
0:56 don't know who I am, my name is George
0:59 and I help earlystage creators to grow
1:01 faster and earn more. But this content
1:03 creation niche is very saturated, so I
1:06 did expect the results to be quite slow
1:07 at first. But I'm not sure if I expected
1:09 the views to be this low. I mean, there
1:11 were some videos that literally got zero
1:12 views when I uploaded them. And if
1:14 you're in this stage of your journey as
1:16 a creator, maybe you can relate to this
1:18 because even though the views were very
1:20 low, I knew I had something to share and
1:22 I knew that I had insights that people
1:24 would find valuable. So, I had to keep
1:26 going. But having said that, it's still
1:28 not a great feeling. Like, let's just be
1:29 honest with each other. If you spend
1:32 hours or even days on a video and you
1:34 put your heart into it and your
1:35 creativity into it and it gets like
1:38 seven views, it does sting a little bit.
1:40 Like, let's just be honest. But then I
1:42 posted a video called How Content
1:44 Creation Completely Changed My Life in
1:47 90 Days. And it's actually pretty likely
1:48 that that video is how you found my
1:50 channel in the first place. And now if
1:51 we look back to the analytics, you can
1:53 see that that 6 week period that we were
1:55 looking at before, I mean, you can
1:56 barely even see those spikes that we
1:58 were looking at. And you can see as soon
2:00 as I posted that video, the views just
2:02 immediately shot up to, you know, about
2:05 6,000 views a day. And if we click up
2:06 here, you can see that in the 8day
2:08 period after I posted that video, we
2:11 reached 1,000 subscribers. And I really
2:13 wanted to show you this because I really
2:15 want you to see that just one video can
2:17 literally change everything. And I think
2:18 this is so interesting because when it
2:20 comes to YouTube, I think a lot of new
2:22 creators, they expect to see kind of
2:25 slow, linear progression over time. And
2:27 they usually expect to see something a
2:28 little bit like this. And there's a
2:30 reason why we expect this because you
2:32 know in life that's usually how we see
2:34 results with this kind of slow linear
2:36 progression towards our goals. For
2:38 example, if you were trying to learn the
2:39 piano, you would expect that over time
2:42 and over the years with practice, you
2:44 would slowly improve and slowly see
2:46 results. But when it comes to seeing
2:48 results on YouTube, I would say 90% of
2:50 the time it's not going to look like
2:53 this. it's going to look more like this
2:54 where we have this kind of long dead
2:57 zone period and then all of a sudden you
2:59 post one video and everything changes.
3:01 And this actually happens to most of the
3:03 big creators. So I remember Hamza back
3:05 in the day talking about this where he
3:06 was describing this long period where
3:08 nothing was going on and then all of a
3:10 sudden he posted one video and his
3:12 entire channel blew up. This is so
3:13 valuable because it means that if you're
3:15 not seeing results yet and maybe you're
3:17 feeling a little bit disheartened, it
3:18 might be because you're expecting to be
3:21 here in terms of your results, but you
3:23 might actually be here. So, yeah, that's
3:24 just something to think about. Now,
3:25 let's dive into this then. So, what one
3:28 change did I make right here to reach my
3:31 first 1,000 subscribers in 8 days? Now,
3:32 here's the thing. When you are an early
3:34 stage creator, you have a big problem to
3:36 overcome. And that's that when people
3:38 see your video recommended, they also
3:40 see the amount of views. And this could
3:41 be a bit of a problem because
3:43 unfortunately when people see a video
3:45 with low views, they associate it with
3:47 low quality and then obviously they're
3:49 less likely to click on it. And the most
3:51 egregious example of this is if you were
3:53 to upload a video called How to Grow on
3:54 YouTube and the video had, you know,
3:56 like seven views, then it's going to be
3:58 very hard to get people to take you
4:00 seriously. But this also actually
4:02 applies to any niche on YouTube. Because
4:04 if people see your video next to a video
4:06 that has a ton of views, they're going
4:08 to be more likely to click on the video
4:10 with high views. because again they
4:12 associate it with high quality and I
4:14 wish that wasn't the case but it is the
4:16 truth. So how do we remedy this issue?
4:18 How do we counteract this negative
4:21 social proof of having low views and not
4:22 many subscribers? Well, what we're going
4:25 to do is lean into our newcomer status.
4:27 So what on earth do I mean by that?
4:28 Well, I think this will make a lot more
4:30 sense if I give you an example. So let's
4:32 say you're trying to get into the
4:34 fitness niche and you know you've got 12
4:36 subscribers. You're a brand new creator.
4:38 Now, at some point, your videos are
4:39 going to start getting recommended next
4:41 to the absolute pros. You know, these
4:44 are guys with perfect bodies in perfect
4:45 lighting. You know, they've got millions
4:47 of views. And if you posted a video
4:49 called How to Build Muscle Fast or
4:51 something like that, it is game over
4:53 because people are going to go with the
4:55 pros with millions of views every single
4:56 time because they're going to assume
4:59 that they have more value to give. It's
5:01 just the harsh truth. But here's how we
5:03 fix this. We need to lean into the fact
5:05 that we are new creators. So, we need to
5:08 lean into our newcomer status. So,
5:10 instead of just posting a broad video
5:12 about how to build muscle fast, it would
5:14 be way more powerful to post a video
5:16 documenting your first year or even your
5:19 first 30 days trying to build muscle as
5:21 a beginner. And to prove how well this
5:23 idea works, this is Joe Faser's channel.
5:26 He has around 2 million subscribers and
5:29 his first ever video has 31 million
5:31 views. And the title and thumbnail looks
5:34 like this. Now, the thing is that 31
5:36 million people didn't click on this
5:37 video because they thought he was a
5:39 certified expert. They clicked because
5:41 they saw themselves in him and they
5:43 wanted to follow along with the early
5:45 stages of his journey. So now if we zoom
5:47 out, this is so interesting because if
5:49 you post a video where you lean into
5:51 your status as a new creator instead of
5:53 trying to look like an expert, the fact
5:56 that the video has low views kind of
5:58 compliments the video itself because it
5:59 makes people think that they're
6:00 discovering something valuable and
6:02 something relatable that not that many
6:04 people know about. And the crazy thing
6:06 is that in all the videos I've watched
6:08 about, you know, how to grow a YouTube
6:10 channel, they never mention this, which
6:12 is mad because it's such a powerful
6:14 concept for new creators because again,
6:16 this is the concept that I used to start
6:18 seeing some real growth on this channel.
6:20 So instead of posting videos like how to
6:22 grow an audience in 2025 and and things
6:24 like that, instead I decided to switch
6:27 it up and lean into my newcomer status
6:28 and start talking about the struggles
6:31 and the successes of my first 90 days as
6:33 a content creator. And in that video
6:35 that did quite well, I talked about all
6:37 my insecurities and all my overthinking
6:39 when talking to a camera. And I talked
6:41 about my unfiltered experiences as a
6:43 beginner. And I think people really
6:44 resonated with that because it's
6:46 something that everyone goes through and
6:48 everyone can relate to when it comes to
6:50 getting into content creation. So
6:52 finally, how do we apply this to your
6:54 own videos? So you want to start off by
6:55 asking yourself, what journey are you
6:58 actually on right now? Like genuinely,
6:59 what are you learning? What are you
7:01 building? And what are you struggling
7:02 with? Because trust me, these small
7:05 moments are so much more powerful than
7:06 you think. These are the moments that
7:09 make your story real and they make you
7:10 more magnetic. And then you can also
7:12 think, what is a specific milestone that
7:14 you've hit recently, even if it's small,
7:16 that others might want to hit as well?
7:18 Like for example, this video right now.
7:20 So to a lot of people, hitting 1,000
7:21 subscribers is not really a big deal,
7:24 but to a lot of small creators is a huge
7:26 milestone. And these are the aspects of
7:27 your journey that you really want to
7:29 focus on. And it's so cool because this
7:31 is actually your advantage as a small
7:33 creator because people don't always want
7:36 to learn from the experts or the gurus.
7:37 Sometimes they'd rather just learn from
7:39 the person who is maybe one or two steps
7:41 ahead of them. And I think that's
7:42 actually what I'd like to leave you with
7:43 because if you're sat there thinking,
7:45 you know, I don't have anything to teach
7:46 or I don't I don't have anything that
7:48 I'm an expert in, then you're probably
7:50 the exact kind of creator that somebody
7:52 out there needs. And if you are
7:53 interested in watching or even
7:55 re-watching that video that got me to
7:57 1,000 subscribers in 8 days, then there
7:59 should be a little box appearing on the
8:00 screen somewhere over here. So yeah,
8:02 click onto that video and I'll see you there.
8:03 there. [Music]
