Good afternoon everyone, welcome to the
Gran Teatro. Welcome to
Teleonuba's broadcast of the
official proclamation of Holy Week in Huelva,
delivered by David Martín
Bernal. This is the scene at this time of day,
12 o'clock in the afternoon. The
Gran Teatro is packed, full of
people who make up our
Holy Week, including the brotherhoods, and of course,
religious and
political authorities from the city
and province. Everyone is gathered
in this grand theater to enjoy, in a
few minutes, this proclamation of
Holy Week in Huelva, which announces everything that is to come, everything that we are
going to enjoy. The
speaker will be David Martín, a brother
of the Brotherhood of the Three Falls and the
Brotherhood of El Rocío in Huelva,
whose words
of affection for our Holy Week will surely move us.
Joining me to comment on and present
this Holy Week proclamation is
Jesús Chamorro. Good
afternoon. Good afternoon, Tony.
Listening to David, how do you see the
atmosphere, Jesús? Well, right now it's very
full. You can see people are nervous, they
want to know what he's going to say. There are so
many brotherhoods in Huelva, and they
're nervous because they already know what's coming
after the proclamation.
Palm Sunday is almost here, and
David, the town crier, is going to announce it in
a large theater that, as usual, is gradually
filling up. More and
more people are coming to the stalls,
and of course to the
boxes, the mezzanine, and the upper gallery. There isn't
a single corner left empty because
everyone is waiting for this day, waiting for the
proclamation on Sunday to
enjoy this typical,
beautiful, and traditional event that we have in
Huelva's Holy Week.
And of course, as it couldn't be otherwise, it will be
accompanied by
the Huelva Municipal Symphonic Band,
conducted by Francisco de la Poza, a
musical group that is generating a lot of
positive buzz because they are
carrying out various
large-scale performances. They are doing a
truly excellent job, and of course, today they will
also have a leading role. And that's because
the town crier He mentioned that he wanted to
deliver a proclamation in an
innovative way,
accompanied by music
that is very reminiscent of Huelva. He
hasn't revealed many clues,
but little by little we will
uncover all the details.
Of course, we will also have the
presence of various authorities
on stage, such as the president of the
Council of Brotherhoods and Fraternities of
Huelva, Antonio González, the mayor,
Pilar Miranda, and the bishop, Don
Santiago Gómez. Some lights are going out now.
We see Jesús focusing on the
main stage, and there's
very little time left before this
proclamation begins. Yes, there's very little time left, as you say,
some lights have already gone out. Focus on
the processional cross, the coat of arms of Huelva, and
the Council of Brotherhoods. Because right now
all eyes must be
on the stage, all five
senses must be focused on the message.
This is a traditional proclamation, a proclamation that
seeks the origins of Holy Week, and
where the people of
Huelva must listen. They have to
be present today to know what's coming.
We see different authorities
such as the Brotherhood of the Good Death, the
Brotherhood of the Redemption of the Three Falls,
and the Brotherhood of the Resurrected. We also see all the different politicians and authorities from Huelva. Regarding the speaker, we must highlight that David Martín Bernal, whom we announced earlier, is a brother of the Three Falls and the Rocío of Huelva. He is a
regular contributor to different brotherhood programs and
has also collaborated
many times on our
Televisa program, "La Rebujina." And if we highlight
some of his exaltations or proclamations, we must
say that he has delivered the
Christmas proclamation for the Brotherhood of the
Three Falls, the exaltation to the Virgin
of Love in 2000, the
university proclamation for Holy Week, the
Christmas exaltation for the Brotherhood
of Forgiveness, and the Rocío proclamation for the
Brotherhood of Cartalla in 2023. In
the Brotherhood of Rocío of Huelva, he carried out
the Christmas exaltation, and
also in the In 2019, he was the chronicler of
the pilgrimage. We must also highlight what
the town crier mentioned earlier, amidst the
noise of the Gran Teatro, to the
press colleagues: throughout this
Lent, he has received various gifts and
tokens from the different
brotherhoods that make up our
Holy Week. He told us that today, on the day
of the pilgrimage, he carries with him all the
tokens, all the holy cards, rosaries, and
all the medals that the brotherhoods
have given him, and that for him it was a
very special moment, of course, to be
able to share this moment with all of them.
Today is the moment of truth
after all these days in which he has been
visiting the various
parishes and brotherhoods,
having those intimate encounters
with their patron saints, with the images of
our Holy Week. And now is the
moment to share it with all of Huelva, to
show all those feelings, to
express everything he feels for our
Holy Week, and to announce the
great days of our city, this week in
which Huelva brings out the best it has:
its customs, its traditions, its affection,
its popular spirit. And of course, we must tell
you that Teleonuba will be,
as always, covering
everything that happens during Holy Week in
Huelva. We'll be at the processions' departures, along the
official routes, at the most important points, and
of course, also at the return of
the various brotherhoods of
Holy Week in Huelva. Once again, Jesús couldn't
miss this event. Yes, he's
donning his vestments again to be present at
all the brotherhoods in Huelva. This time, he'll be a
bit of a silent observer,
but in this grand theater, as we
say, we'll be present at each
and every important point of
this Holy Week in Huelva 2024. For me, as a
newcomer, it's an honor to belong to
this station, and for us, Jesús, it's also an
honor to have you, along
with Sergio Garrido, Edu López,
and of course, our colleague
Rubén Garrido, who will
make up this team when we
speak to you. But of course,
this team also includes many
more technicians and many more people who
work with the cameras and
who will certainly do a
splendid job. There are other details we have to...
In these moments
before the proclamation, I'd like to mention
the setting you can
see on your screens. The
processional cross presiding over this stage belongs to
the Brotherhood of the Three Falls; it
couldn't be otherwise. The brotherhood
of the proclaimer is also a
member of the Brotherhood of El Rocío. The
processional cross of the Brotherhood of the Three
Falls is escorted by
those silver angels with lanterns. It should
also be mentioned that this
Brotherhood presented the
proclamation text to the proclaimer,
David Martín Bernal. Furthermore, this morning
they held a Eucharist in his
honor, which
David Martín, of course, also attended. It just
ended, and from
there, both the members of the Brotherhood
of the Three Falls, who make up the
governing board, and the proclaimer made their way to
this grand theater, which, by the way, boasts
a floral arrangement by Antonio
Rivera. The lights dim. It seems
the proclamation of

Good afternoon to all, Your Excellency and Most
Reverend Bishop of the
Diocese, Don Santiago Gómez Sierra; Your
Excellency, Madam Mayor and President
of the Most Excellent City Council of this
City, Doña Pilar Miranda Plata; Mr.
Spiritual Director of the Council of
Brotherhoods, Don Francisco José Feria
Riego; Mr. Councilor of Culture, Don Juan
Ignacio Molina Maqueda; Mr. Secretary
of the Council of Brotherhoods and Fraternities
of Holy Week, Don Toribio Suero; and
Madam Delegate of Brotherhoods, Doña
Mariola Luengo, most worthy authorities
present here, fellow
board members, senior brothers of all the
Holy Week brotherhoods, president and
senior brothers of all the
Glory brotherhoods, previous
heralds and presidents of the Union of
Brotherhoods and of the Council, Mr. Director and
member of the
Huelva Municipal Symphonic Band who
accompanies us every year (and every year I forget to mention
him), ladies and gentlemen, fellow members of the brotherhoods, all
peace and good. Today, Passion Sunday, we meet again
in this
beautiful and wonderful setting, the grand
theater of our city, to attend
one of the most important events we
have during Lent, which is none other
than the proclamation of Holy Week in
Huelva. As president of the Council, it is my
honor to present it to
all those present here and to those who
see and hear us through the
media. For this year, we have
appointed Mr. David Martín Bernal.
David is happily married to Rocío, and from
that great love, they are the parents of
Beatriz, a wonderful girl of
great intelligence and capable of doing
absolutely everything she sets her mind to,
including the proclamation of Holy Week. Holy Week,
which, by the way, he used to joke with his
father, even saying, "Dad, in the end
I'm going to give the opening speech before you!"
Well, Beatriz, that's not going to be possible anymore.
Although the appointment has been a long time coming,
David is an exemplary member of the Rocío pilgrimage and
brotherhood, a
committed Christian, and an excellent person who
is always willing to do anything
related to the church and
the brotherhoods, both penitential
and devotional. In
1997, he gave the Christmas proclamation for the
Three Falls brotherhood; in 2000, the
Holy Week proclamation for the university; in 2001,
the exaltation of the Virgin of Love;
in 2009, the Christmas exaltation for the Rocío brotherhood of Huelva; in
2019-20, the Rocío chronicle for the
Rocío brotherhood of Huelva; the
Christmas exaltation for the Brotherhood of Forgiveness; and
last year, in 2023, the proclamation for the
Rocío brotherhood of Cartalla. He
has also made other contributions. in magazines,
yearbooks, newspapers, and on
local television in Huelva, among many other things.
Although the first thing he did was
introduce the person who created the
incredible parchment he was going to receive today—
we're referring to Paco Joni—in a
tribute to the costalero (bearer) who was organizing
the union of brotherhoods of Huelva at that time
in the early
90s. Be happy, David, feel proud
because this title that you are going to consolidate
this morning is more than deserved.
Enjoy it because this is your proclamation, the proclamation
of a magnificent member of the brotherhood committed to
his Holy Week and to his city,
and share it with your loved ones and
with all of us who are eager to
to
hear it every year. At the same time as he was
making the presentation, he was
imaginarily raising the proclamation as if it were a float, so that
later the
speaker would unfurl it, step by step.
So, David, may the Virgin of El
Rocío, the Virgin of Love, and the Virgin of the Ribbon
illuminate and bless you, as well as all your
family. So, speaker, the word is yours.

who am I If my lyrics are nothing more
than a collection of experiences and feelings without
without
pretensions because I who am an example
of nothing and only a torrent of
past experiences all full of
emotions who am I to call to the
heart of so many
people whose beats are
truly the rhythm of some
tassels caressing their rod the tapping
of a list of brothers the strumming of the
thread furrowing fabrics of a
trousseau the creak of a
slipper or The hammering of a piece
that doesn't fit, assembling an
altar, where did someone
think of me to proclaim Huelva and its
Holy Week? That afternoon when August was
saying, the words jumped out
in my head, searching for an explanation,
that truly inexplicable fate
that came given and not proposed,
eagerly inquiring for an order that would give meaning to
everything. Everything I wanted to say to my people,
everything I could share on a
Passion Sunday with the members of the brotherhoods of my
land. Since that afternoon, I have
n't stopped thinking of you, Mother, as
mediator of this event that happens
today. To you I
am. Hail, full moon, ribbon that
binds my dream, protector of this
land in its night, beautiful dawn, and in its morning,
morning,
morning star. Hail, full moon, sacred
Empress of heaven, queen of our
souls, flower of the eternal garden, may
your light not be lacking to this humble herald,
glorious and blessed Virgin, Angels of my
heart, may your peace, your
star of infinite grace, not be lacking to this
Rosary that I pray, crying out for your charity. And
your sweet name in verse to weave
these words, all for you, feeling
returns to letters, your eyes, and the fruit
of your Tabernacle, your love, my divine,
powerful patronage, that mitigates this
Calvary where these pains of yours
hurt me fourfold, take me out of this
exile, I am imploring you from
the valley of this meadow where your
bitter face makes me burst into tears and
my voice wants to rise. Conception, under your
protection I beg you for mercy, refuge
for my sins, consolation for my
sorrows, always full of anguish, greater
pain unleashed by imposed solitudes.
Dew and our Hope, or the health that
has failed, that is why I ask you, mother, if
my reason should break, if my memory should forget
and my life should scorn your eyes, resignation, do
not leave me, lady, my heart is yours, in
you is my hope. Victory of the
Redeemer, Oh pious Mary, all purity and
sweetness, do not forget me, my mother, do not
abandon my favor in this glorious
moment, with all my heart open to
praise you and God And when
the time comes for us to meet face to face, you and I, the town
crier invokes you: do not leave me,
excellent and most reverend Lord
Bishop, Father Pastor of Huelva, most
illustrious Lady Mayoress of this
City of Light, the oldest in the
West, Lord Spiritual Director of the
Council, Lord President of the Council of
Brotherhoods, Lord Councilor of Culture and
Archaeological Heritage, Lord Secretary of the
of the
Council, dearest Lady Delegate of Brotherhoods, most
Brotherhoods, most
worthy civil and
military authorities, senior brothers,
governing boards, members of the brotherhoods, friends,
family, ladies and
gentlemen, they say that gratitude is a sign of good breeding,
and I am proud of the upbringing I
upbringing I
received. So I can only begin
by showing my most sincere
gratitude to all those who have made it
possible for me to be here today, fulfilling
this dream of mine and of so many who love me
dearly. Thanks especially to the President
of the Council for thinking of me and to his
board for accepting his proposal. Thank you,
Antonio, from the bottom of my heart, for this honor
entrusted to me, which is forever engraved in
the heraldry of a member of the brotherhood.
Thank you for your words of
introduction, and I hope that That affection and
trust that Tony, so
approachable, exudes does not diminish in the slightest the quality
and value of what you have infused into
our Holy Week, and may it soon be
rewarded with the recognition you
deserve. Thanks to the
Huelva Municipal Symphonic Band and its director, Don
Francisco de la Poza, and all its
members, because they are always there. And
how they are today! They have delighted us
with Dolores Saubens and Reina del Amor
because we wanted Huelva's music to resonate from
the very beginning, and it has done so masterfully.
masterfully.
Thanks always to all these people
who have shown me their unconditional support and affection
in these months. Thanks to
Sergio Cornejo for his ability to
paint emotions, and of course to my
family, to those who have been closest
to me, suffering and enjoying with me
every word written, every event that took place
in the making, every
stitch of this proclamation. In particular, to my
daughter Beatriz, words of gratitude
fall short, and I can only say that I
soul.
Finally, allow me to greet all those who
follow this event through the
media, whose work is
immeasurable and in a A very special
message to the mother whom the
inexorable circumstances of this life have forced
to stay home: know that I feel you just as
close. The days have passed, the moment has arrived,
and I still cannot understand how
that little boy who climbed an immense hill hand in
hand with his mother, encouraging his
brother, a bearer, under the love of a
canopy float, now has to replace
that "Come on, Carlos" with a "Come back."
The feeling is the same, without those
first memories of brotherhood that encouraged the
effort, the unity in a madness of a
group of people who intended to take that
delirium for their
Virgin of a single lift to the highest point. Today I come with the
same emotion to announce that the time
of preparation comes to an end, that a whole
year of incessant, almost daily work
reaches its peak and is about to sprout
with the imminent spring as the
highest expression of popular religiosity
in our city, as the greatest show
of devotion to the Son of God in his passion,
death, and resurrection and to his blessed
mother. Today I come to sing to you,
Huelva, I come to sing to you and your
excellencies because you are Holy Week, it
hurts... Whoever it pains, I come to
sing to you and to that Spring of yours that
door. Come in, come in, don't
miss my city and its grandeur when
Holy Week arrives. How beautiful Huelva becomes!
Come in, come in, for I have
come to tell you, exquisite Spring, that which
you have not experienced: How Lent has been
after such a hard year, of so
many sleepless nights, in such
long meetings, of projects that never materialize, of
money that never reaches, of fulfilling
rules, of remembering the poor, of
giving one's whole life. Now the
fruits are born, the festivities are getting underway. For this
world of brotherhoods, it is not easy to accomplish the
feat. Come in, come in, come in,
Spring! The services have been held, I have
drawn my ballot and I have my pointed hood
adjusted to my head, because these
mesh ones seem to even cool things down. The
cardboard ones from Padilla stay in the attics.
The tunic, already ironed, hangs
on the door. The bands have rehearsed,
how good the ones from Huelva are!
The equalizations have been done, the teams are
renewed, and in the brotherhood houses,
young people They come and go with their hands all
black from polishing the silver,
rubbing it together, breathing in
friendship in moments of shared experience. Come on, come on,
Spring, that's where the torrijas and
grandma's pestiños are made, all with
rich honey from the mountains and with
wine from the Condado region, sugar, cinnamon. Don't
be late, little girl, I'll offer you
a snack while you catch up
however you like, on the radio, on
TV, on those modern networks that keep you
informed in detail about the feelings of
our land. While they set up the
stands along Gran Vía and the little square, I want you to
see the churches, so that when they open
their doors, their aromas and yours are
a perfect blend. The church smells of
tradition, of essence, of wood, to
offer to the Lord who is the one who leaves his mark on us,
but I... I'm with one of the ones from the
melting pot, you don't know what I
'm talking about, you don't know the dinner, how
called the bearers, the
platform with its base and
perfectly arranged candles is put in, the pulleys are tied well,
someone holds the
ropes, it's raised to the canopy ceiling with
the valances tight, then the
poles are raised, the first masters, behind
them the rest are raised, 12 in total, which stay
stay
at the baldachin, everything is too little for her,
below the vent and skirts that already
hang covering the pedestal of the
Virgin who is my mistress, the lanterns and the
candelabra at the back. And then it's her turn for the
enchants me, child, open the box, make sure not a single
candle is missing, arrange them by size, the
Marias first, and the smoke begins to come out
of the pot of the infernillo so that
the wax melts, cousin, a little for the wall, a
little for the door, another little for the
Tabernacle. It's well
held there One after another, the big ones
and the small ones are being prepared,
along with the curly ones, so that they will illuminate
her face when she strolls through Huelva, pampered
by dressers with fingers and hands ready
to make her even more beautiful, with utmost
delicacy. Now only the florist is missing
for her to be complete. What you
are missing, my dear Spring! Come on, don't
delay any longer, our
wait is ending. We need your light, those longer
afternoons, the orange of your
sky that turns violet. We need to
have you and the flowers you leave us to
adorn our streets, the squares and the little plazas,
among the green of the parks,
flowerbeds and pots. Come bring us your good
fortune: the bougainvillea that climbs the sky and
the roses, the orchids and the calla lilies, the lilies
and the freesias, geraniums on
the balconies, the ivy geraniums, the hydrangeas, let me
not miss any, let someone
keep count. What are you doing in the hallway? Come on, come
in, don't miss
out, my dear Spring, on the most
beautiful thing. The greatest thing in the world is this
Huelva that gives itself to its Lord and its
Mother with open arms when the
moon appears, that moon that brings us fullness, symbol of
hope, life that is
renewed, seen on the horizon, clouds of
incense that fly among petals in the
wind, and a sigh for absence, the roll
of drums in the distance already resounds as one
hears silence to the rhythm of
chains, come on, come in, be a witness
to the faith of this people who venerate a
God who becomes man for the man of
this land and shares his pain and his
Mother's sorrow, come on, come in, the
city is adorned, its heart
races, and only you remain, exquisite
Spring, to show you its soul, to
complete its beauty,
only day is missing, my dear Spring,
come on, come in, let me
show you how beautiful Huelva becomes, the
most beautiful week, the most intense week, the most
sublime pairing, the circle that
closes, give me your hand, little girl, for the commotion is already
approaching, the brotherhood members on the pole,
Holy Week is underway, the African is
calling, let's go to heaven with a return visit [Applause]

seems so far away in the
year but
that day we talk about so much arrives when
the heat is on When the sun shines
high when the sky clears that
morning stroll that takes a deep breath and
thinks it's Palm Sunday
How much longer how much is
left and when you least expect it
Passion Sunday dawns we say goodbye to
Lent and you find yourself facing a
fleeting week that culminates in the days leading up to it
and you go to the colonies to see the Virgin
of Sorrows following the tradition and
you go to see the Virgin of Prado with that
childlike countenance walking through the land
where her roots are established And you see the
blessing there on the small island where
Jesus walks before Annas with a
lost gaze showing the patience of
the sure steps in the bosom of the
church how important it is to let
the seed rest to grow
strong and that same Saturday when The
Legion pays homage to the Christ of the
True Cross as a massive prelude to what is to
come, it brings its night, but it is not just any
night. You go to bed
impatient, you almost spend it awake because
the next morning, God willing, hand in
hand with your children as your parents
did, the suit, the shirt, the tie, the dress, the shoes, the wallet, the tunic, the sack, the
sash, the uniform, or
the bugle, that next morning something of
us is unveiled to dress our
faith in the best of
ways. It seems like it won't happen, but it arrives and you
look out the window, you look at the
sky, you take a deep breath, and it's Palm Sunday.
Sunday.
How my Huelva shines,
Huelva shines,
Dad, you're awake, you've raised your
blinds, you've opened the window. You've
seen how the sky is. It's
Palm Sunday and the sun seems to know it. How
is the morning? The churches are open.
Let's go to Palm Sunday Mass, I want to go to
El Olivo Nuevo. Come on, my love, come on, let's not
waste a moment. God appears, Santa
Fe, the Lord comes to meet you, riding
on a little donkey with a halter and little
bells that answers for Platero.
Come on! What is it? The Master comes surrounded by
Child, just like Lucero, with echoes of
joy, illusions, and longing,
marking from the beginning the hearts of my
brotherhood, her hand, her gaze, her
tranquility, blessing all of Huelva in her
mystery procession that brings a woman and two
children, Saint John, Saint James, Saint Peter, and a
very tall palm tree that sways with the
wind when the soul of God is sung by the
best of the Huelva singers. And look who's
coming behind to the sound of the bell ringer, it's
a young woman who attends to you
smiling without tears on her face and a
blush of caramel. Angels is her
name, my life, how much I love her, even
the sun goes looking for her among the mesh of the
roof, for her lips, for her eyes, for
that eternal Dew, for the rose of her hand,
for her delicate feature that makes
time stop. Angels is her name, she who
brings so many memories. Look at her, my
love, go on, throw her a kiss and let me get
emotional thinking to myself,
other years have passed, one year more and
one less, all of her returning with her children,
seeing the queen of heaven, and when the
canopy moves away, after catching our breath,
we run towards The point that
advances, reaching the center, a brotherhood
with tradition, with black and white habits,
as the supper enters with a
dusty breeze. Look how that step moves, how it
lengthens its side. Let us see
that Jesus is consecrating the bread we
need and the wine we drink
among friends, with brothers,
whose love is the best example of being a good Christian.
And while he makes his way little by little
to the convent, let's see the Virgin, who is already at
the monument, to make a
stop and look at herself in the mirror. There is no
face like that face, which is the Gate of
Heaven. Listen to that flute, darling, only
marshland sounds for the admirable mother, the
mother of good counsel, for the
Clement Virgin, with corals on her chest, cause of
our joy, coming from Tartessos.
Look, my love, how the heart leaps
when they enter Huelva. Rosario with a
dusty breeze, and now, Papa, where are we going again
to San Pedro, who come from the garden?
Paco, those who build a temple know how to
make a brotherhood and work with care. That
of making a
brotherhood, being a true church and a
parish by right, always following
Jesus, loaded with Her image of Madero and her
mother, Sweet Name, who is always
interceding, is redemption for Huelva,
the one caressed by the fingers of all
those who feel it even without seeing it. And
why does that Lord cry, the one who returns
again, sitting on a stone, praying
as I pray? He cries because he is also a
man and feels our contempt behind
his glass, peering out for that forsaken one
who only seeks solace. He is called
Precious Blood and comes in a gleaming procession,
imploring for our own. There is only
one left that appears on Puerto Street
after leaving the park, which is
more accurately depicted, and after going down the slope
where Jesus appears with his two
open arms. He wants to embrace the
world; he is the true refuge, the one who
never abandons you, the one who waits
serenely, the one who, wherever you see him,
faithfully conquers your discouragement because he is the
victory that offers himself entirely each day,
day,
each hour, with his two open arms.
Let us go see his mother and let us not remain
still, for the Virgin of Peace perfumes
even the incense when she walks through
Huelva, when they come swaying her. Look at the
white of her canopy. The fineness of her gesture,
the aroma of her flowers, the purity of her
appearance. Ask her for her peace, that she may make
good hearts in the world amidst the smoke,
for we started the war in the
small circle, and when the afternoon fades and the
day is ending, my soul rises up
listening to how much we have seen, Dad, what a
feast I have taken. Look at my ball of
wax, the one you started on, what a
marvel the dinner is! They sang to me about the little donkey,
what an example! Redemption
impresses me, mutilated, that canopy. I would follow it,
how right she was, it seems I have
dreamed it, how my Huelva shines every
Sunday of [Applause]
[Applause] [Music]
the city becomes one day more than
ever, the neighborhoods and their people move
to the heart of the city, traveling through its
arteries, pushed by the systole of their
fervor and the diastole of the pride of
belonging. We do not have in Huelva another
event that arouses such communion
of thousands of people, so many days with the
same purpose, also contributing in its
processional parades the splendor From
their bearing, the aroma of their tradition, the
sound of their soul, and the light of their faith—yes,
their faith—because in all this
local organization, in all this
sometimes frenetic activity that so
energizes our capital socially and economically,
in those rows of penitents that
color and illuminate our streets, we, the members of the brotherhood,
make a public profession of faith, of
our Catholic faith, giving
public witness to our faith in God in every
act, in every service, and now in
Holy Week, it is the sole reason for our
existence, without which nothing would make
sense. We, the members of the brotherhood, cannot be
captive to
cultural interests; we must always rise
each time we fall in life, however heavy
the cross we take up each
day, and forgive seventy times seven every affront
affront
we receive. Only in this way will we be good
followers of Christ; only in this way will we give
meaning to all that begins under
the light of the ninth hour each Holy Monday,
when the Son of God sets his eyes on
Huelva. Jesus looks towards the
estuary, descending through the Conquero, while Saint
John and Mary bear true witness to the pain
of that mother seeing her dead son.
Forgiving the world, even the stiff coward
who stabs you in the
back with dice for money.
Forgive me, too, I want to be a
good thief, I don't want to stay lost, I want your
straight path to meet you
on the finite road. Beyond the
conquero that you are, forgiveness for Huelva,
forgiveness for the whole world. Look also at the nursing home,
walking straight ahead to
whisper in your ear, "I too am captive
to all those grandfathers, captive to
loneliness, captive to contempt,
captive to diseases that erase all
memories." I want to walk beside you as
your entire neighborhood walks, being the rope in
your hands and the carnation you tread on, from
the hearth to the center, to feel your heartbeat
and marvel at your walk. I want to walk beside you,
captive of Holy Monday, captive of
my sleeplessness, and you look at Huelva at night
when they offer you the log, and you carry
our guilt, bearing the full weight
of the sins of all of us who fall
into the mud, full of envy and jealousy, without
any conscience, values, or respect.
Let me accompany you. Let it be. The
silence that envelops your slow, measured walk
as you go along the drying racks
is where you pour out mercy, and the
oboy says to the wind, "I want to be
Father Jesus of Calvary. Let me be
your breath, and also look at us, Mary,
amidst prayers and supplications, do not cry for me anymore, my
sorrows. The order is your Consolation that takes
care of you, that deima, being your handkerchief,
merciful love, from your
serene face, do not cry for me anymore, my sorrows. All of
Huelva is your Consolation. When you come down every
Monday, still smelling of new clothes, and you purify
the air with your fragrant perfume, give us your
mercy, take us out of captivity, for
that neighborhood that adores you rises up in a
flurry when it sees your canopy, already announcing
the moment you leave your chapel like
the sun through the sky. Intercede for our
sins, for without you we are prisoners, Mother
of Mercy, take us out of captivity and
soak yourself in the dew of hope that I
await when I see you pass by and only
the rustling that accompanies your rhythm and the
sound of the Silence. Oh Rocío and Esperanza,
who glimpses Leeward, how
the people love you, how they escort your lament. Give me your
love, my mother, for Monday is that day you
know I die for you. But there is a
gaze that pierces my soul, they are the
eyes of Jesus rising from the ground, in
the eyes of my
land, being very clear and
direct, one must always rise.
Even if this life we live seems like a desert,
sometimes in a sigh, in which we
always fall, I want to be that stone
where your body rests, and I want to be the
Veronica who seeks you without hesitation. I
want to always follow you, I want to be your Simon of Cyrene
to alleviate those sorrows that
make your body overcome and fall up to three
times for the return of my dream. I
want to always be yours, that not even
the wind touches you, I even want to be a Roman,
the one who goes close to you to share in your
suffering. Let me be a powder keg, let me
be the old quarter of this city that
surrenders, waiting for your lefts. Let me
be that slope, let me be the pavement that
takes you to Huerta Mena, my Jesus of
sorrows, feeling your coastal walk,
because I am yours always, because
My grandchildren will be yours because being from the Three
Falls is the greatest lineage. That is my
only inheritance. It is the best thing I have, it is
a grace from God, from my God Moreno. [Applause]
They say that there are many processions
that we members of the brotherhoods
make during the
year, but they don't count those extraordinary ones
that, without fulfilling anniversaries like the
many that are celebrated this
2024, become sadly ordinary because of what they
mean. That is why they are worthy of
living and seeing because it is also
our station of
penance. They are moments of a pang in the
the
stomach, that Messiah at the parish Caritas
or in the Patio of Love, that saeta at
Asproni or at the food bank, that
marvelous march at the Oblates, at the
Sisters of the Cross or at Princess
Ari, that altar boy parade at
educational projects and scholarships here or in the
Philippines, that silence in the broth of
cold nights and at
blood donations, at donations of
life, and there are our brotherhoods in
those extraordinary outings by
conviction, making the week Holy, without
any political gain except the
satisfaction of duty fulfilled to one's
neighbor and to
God. What you do to one of my
little brothers, you also do to
me. That is why we, the members of the brotherhood, combine
well the water for the thirsty with the
balm for the feet of the Lord who
remains among
us. How well the
Roca taught us. Many have
condemned us and enjoy drawing blood,
nailing their words to the depths of our
our
feelings, but they do not know the power of
of
Jesus' message. They do not know that Christ is our
eternity. Who dares to challenge you? Who dares to
say anything to you if you continue sailing rivers,
