Good afternoon everyone. Um I'm from
Pulsai 282 and I am Rafael T Mendula and
I'm going to discuss about the Cebu
railway station or the circa 1910 during
the American colonial period.
So let's start discussing everyone. So
the first picture that I provide which
is this one we will discuss about the
location and opening about this Cebu
railway station. So start by situating
the scene. Cebu city or on the island of
Cebu in the central Philippines or we
called it a a twin city of the south. So
during the American colonial era in the
early 20th century they established this
Cebu railway station. The sitting as
developing transport hub where steam
locomotives or we call it a
selfpropelled vehicles began begun
linking distant towns to urban center
here in Cebu. weaving a network from the
now which is in the north to south kaiu
argaw which in the south. So the
transportation of this ceu railway
station is vice versa. So the frame
central station as the heartbeat of the
system located at the junction where the
city life and rural production meet
enabling the movement of people
agricultur agricultural goods and raw
materials toward markets and ports.
So the second photo conceal that I will
discuss which is this picture um I'm
going to discuss about the process of
So we'll discuss it later. So this this
is the closest image of the railway
station in Cebu during the American
colonial. So as you can see there are
many people who are in line or
station. Um that's the first requirement
before you can ride a train or
self-powered vehicles. But did you
wonder how this built or how this
contributed to the Sibuanos during that
time? So the venture emerged after
Philippine Commission authorized railway
development in 1906. So they are
planning to build this during 1906 but
establish 1910 by the year of 1910. So
with a private and public actors
collaborating to extend extend a
statewide rail service on Cebu. The aim
was to integrate agricultural product
production like sugar, abaca, limestone
and timber with urban markets, ports and
administrative centers using stem
locomotion to move goods and travels
efficiently. The Cebu line was convinced
as a north south spine feeding the
island's economic life and regional
development. So, so in the third
picture, um I'm going to provide this
picture. So, we see that there are
several trains in the railway. So, it's
just because of the influence of the
Americans. But why the Americans build
Why does let them build this kind of structure?
So most powerful the American during the
time unlike some or the Filipinos. So
including corporate and elite leadership
tied to the Philippine railway company
and allied entities spearheaded the
project figures associated with
industrial and infra infrastructural
expansion in the period alongside
engineers, clerks and maintenance crews
played fibal roles in planning and
financing and operating the line. The
exact roster of individuals varied over
time but the broader group included the
engineer. So Americans
Americans helpipino
helpipino
or the Philippine railway company as uh
they are the allied entities of the
Americans. Now the fourth picture that I
will um that I will provide to you this
one in this fourth picture shows a
ownership of Americans.
So as you can see s picture um the flag
is above from the stations. It
symbolizes the circa in 1910 when a fled
gle island wide rail network connected
towns and supported both passenger and
flight traffic and the structure appears
to be a two-story station with a broad
veranda and arc openings which matches
common colonial railway architecture
that balance functionality with a touch
of local and western design. Such
buildings typically housed with waiting
area, ticket offices and staff rooms on
the ground floor with a elevated or
balcony spaces used for views and
ventilation on the upper level. So
railway station
waiting areas ticket offices comfortable.
comfortable. So
So
and the last photo console that I will
provide this one um it reflects the
station as a as a busy node where modern
rail technology met daily urban life
with passengers, vendors and horse drone
cars interacting on the platform and
surrounding tracks. The operation
supported both passenger travel and
fright movement reinforcing Cebu City's
position as a regional center during the
period. So what are the main goals of
Americans who build this kind of
structure? So the development of cord
under American colonial oversight with
invol involvement from the Philippine
railway company and associated colonial
era engineers and admin administrators.
So their objective was infrastructural
modernization improving connectivity and
supporting economic integration across
Cebu. So that is the main goal of the
American why they why they build this
