0:34 Good everybody. Welcome to the show.
0:36 Lovely to have you with us. Very special
0:38 weekend everybody. Coming up is the
0:40 front bar here for How Good. It is a
0:43 very, very special weekend. The 10th
0:45 anniversary of Doug Nichols round. We
0:46 can't wait. Two of the greats are going
0:48 to join us behind the bar tonight. Dale
0:50 and Derek Kick
0:52 this as we celebrate a really special
0:55 round of footy and a man who is
0:57 profoundly responsible for the footy
0:59 club that Jalong has become. Cameron
1:01 Ling also
1:04 join fantastic. It's well it's
1:07 fantastic. Why I just I just say uh I
1:10 can't think of a better way to celebrate
1:12 Sir Doug Nichols round than having Dale
1:15 kick it, Derek kick it. Yep. And Cameron
1:18 Ling.
1:20 I think that's No, I I think we've
1:22 nailed it here at the front bar. The
1:24 best way to pay homage to the indigenous
1:26 contribution is to have a white guy with
1:28 freckles and red hair on the program.
1:31 So, well done to our our producers.
1:33 Nailed it. Really nailed it. Nailed it.
1:36 And it is the Doug Nichols round. We're
1:38 looking forward to it over the next
1:39 Fortnite enormously. What a round last
1:42 week. I mean, extraordinary since 1970
1:44 thanks to Swamp. uh the the tightest
1:47 round of uh average margins that the
1:50 game seen since 1970. It was super super
1:52 tight. Amazing stuff, of course. And uh
1:55 finished, of course, with North
1:56 Melbourne having a draw. Having a draw.
1:58 Well, that didn't come as a surprise to
2:00 me. I mean, did North Melbourne have a
2:01 very very talented list and it was only
2:03 a matter of time before they almost won
2:05 a
2:07 game. That that was not a massive, you
2:09 know, it was a big weekend for What
2:11 about the Tigers?
2:14 Tigers. The preseason expectations
2:17 weren't great, but you get your third
2:18 win on the board. So, third win on the
2:20 board for the Tigers. Guys, settle down,
2:22 though. We're just We're trying to keep
2:23 a lid on it. We're We don't want to get
2:25 ahead of ourselves. You are trying to
2:26 keep a lid on it. I It's hard to say
2:27 you're keeping a lid on it when if you
2:29 have a look at these scenes from Swan
2:31 Street after the game. Like, they they
2:33 are not Mickey, you're not keeping a lid
2:36 on it.
2:40 The idea is it's up there with all our
2:42 premiership wins when you come over the
2:43 top of West Coast and you get them like
2:46 that juggernaut. They are punchy. Well,
2:48 they're unstoppable. Particularly when
2:50 some of you young BS are doing the
2:51 things that Tom Brown did late in this
2:53 game. I mean, this was remarkable. This
2:54 is the tackle heard round the world.
2:57 This is the tackle that stops a nation.
2:59 Bang. Show me a single person who didn't
3:02 love this tackle. Not who's this
3:05 egghhead. That was Tom Gross. Oh, he got
3:07 caught. Everyone would have loved it.
3:08 Not one person Oh, hang
3:12 on. Didn't love that tackle. The tackle
3:15 that stops the nation. People will be
3:16 asking themselves, "Where were you when
3:18 Tom Brown laid that tackle?" Where were
3:20 you? When was it? Sunday. I tell you
3:22 what I wasn't doing. Celebrating
3:24 Mother's
3:25 Day. Oh,
3:30 more trouble. Glad I asked. Mate, mate,
3:33 she's a lovely woman. She owes me a lot
3:34 of money.
3:37 Hey, you got to draw a line, sir.
3:38 Absolutely. You can't just keep handing
3:40 out all the time your way. It was a big
3:43 tackle. No, it was a great It was a
3:45 great tackle. Why don't we have a Why
3:47 don't we have a tackle of the year? We
3:48 have a mark of the year. We have a goal
3:50 of the year. Why don't we have a tackle
3:51 of the year? And at the end of the year,
3:53 we go, that's the best tackle. Oh, I
3:54 think that's a worthy worthy um
3:56 suggestion. Yeah. Why can't you You're a
3:58 man of I reckon it was a sling tackle,
4:00 but I don't want to I don't want to run
4:01 on your again. They said the chase down
4:03 tackle from behind was dead and proof
4:05 that it is not dead. So I haven't seen a
4:06 rundown like that since that lawyer
4:08 tried to issue you with a
4:10 subpoena. What he's trying to get you
4:12 that was we get through sorry winless
4:15 eagle. The Eagles. Yeah, of course get
4:16 through round nine. They over again the
4:18 poor eagles. So they are winless but the
4:19 players still have plenty to celebrate
4:22 in particular Tom Cole their defender
4:25 with this unbelievable spoil. Look at
4:27 this. And I'm saying look why wouldn't
4:29 you celebrate? Do you know what I mean?
4:30 Have a look at it. It's the He's not
4:32 done yet either, by the way. Yes. Come
4:35 on.
4:37 That's the That's the spoil that stopped
4:39 the
4:41 nation. There was a spoiler heard around
4:43 the world. There's going to be a reunion
4:45 for that spoil someday cuz it's the
4:47 greatest thing that's happened at West
4:48 Coast. The whole team's getting tattoos.
4:53 Spoil tattoos. Spoil tattoos. You got to
4:55 celebrate the little things. Hey, I'm
4:56 pouring's been in the uh the uh in the
4:59 crosshairs the last couple of couple of
5:01 weeks I should say of course and
5:04 particularly after the cosy picket
5:05 decision. I mean, this was extraordinary
5:07 that this was kind of mixed and it just
5:09 shone the light on it, didn't it? It
5:12 created awesome conversation. I don't
5:14 know. Jury's out. Is that It's I don't
5:17 know. Is that to touchwood? Should have
5:20 got a week for kicking his hand.
5:23 The the How do you miss that, mate? The
5:25 AFL's had a fair bit on his plate the
5:27 last couple of weeks, but has been
5:29 relatively quiet on the picket incident.
5:31 Uh well, until this evening, this is I'm
5:33 real. They have actually released a
5:35 statement from the AFL. Uh, yep. [ __ ]
5:38 decision. What? That's fact. That's what
5:40 it says. [ __ ] decision. AFL.
5:50 There are I I do I don't say this often,
5:52 but I feel for the umpires who are under
5:54 a bit of pressure. They are right now.
5:56 And if you want to know exactly how much
5:58 pressure, check this umpire out from the
6:01 Julon GWS game.
6:04 Leave outside five. Move outside five.
6:10 You tell me that's not that's not a
6:12 bloke on the edge. That's not a bloke
6:15 about to crack. He's definitely feeling
6:16 the pinch. Yeah. But it's not just it's
6:19 not just umpires who who feel the
6:21 pressure that this game brings. No. If
6:23 if on a football show in 2025 we are
6:26 talking about the greatest voice breaks
6:28 of all time. Um we are that umpire was
6:31 was great. But I tell you what, back in
6:33 1969, commentator Jack Edwards had one
6:35 for the ages. Yes, he did. Trying to get
6:37 a score for his team calling. Oh, it's a
6:40 beautiful kick. It's a beauty there.
6:46 How good. How good.
6:51 That was magnificent, Sam. That was the
6:53 voice break that stopped the nation. Can
6:56 I just say that was Len Thompson. What a
6:57 thing for the for the young kids in the
6:59 crowd. That's called That was what we
7:00 used to call a dropkick. That was a drop
7:02 kick Thompson. That was absolutely
7:04 superb. One of the other big talking
7:06 points that's given us day upon day upon
7:08 day of Fer has been this one. Jordan
7:10 Clark's hit on Locky Schultz. Of course,
7:12 he went into that spasm reaction. He was
7:14 clearly uh unconscious or knocked out uh
7:17 via the contact of course and all sorts
7:20 of conversation about why the game
7:21 wasn't. It hasn't been covered enough
7:23 for Mike. No. No. When one of those
7:25 football shows going to talk about I
7:27 reckon there's another 24 hours in this
7:29 hand. But but it has been there's been
7:31 all sorts of back and forth between
7:32 Collingwood statements memos
7:36 everything's flying to try and get to
7:37 the bottom of that incident. Yum. I
7:40 think I'm with you Mickey. It's been
7:41 tough time for the umpires. I think
7:42 we're being a bit too hard on them in
7:43 this occasion too cuz injured players
7:45 can recover at different speeds. Example
7:48 round three 985. Carlton's Bruce Reed
7:51 here. He's hurt in this contest bottom
7:53 of the screen. He's going back and he
7:54 you can see he's clearly hit right. You
7:56 can see he's on the ground. And there he
7:58 is there. Season over. Stretcher will be
8:01 out in a minute. He's not coming back
8:02 from that. Yeah. Don't overdo it. The
8:05 thing
8:07 But you're right, M. It doesn't look
8:09 good, does it? Didn't look good at all,
8:10 sir. And uh bring out the screens. I
8:12 think so, too.
8:14 Honestly, looks like he's in trouble.
8:16 And he's in you see him in the hands of
8:17 the trainers, right? And look, moments
8:20 later, let's have a look how it played
8:21 out. Bruce Reed's in the hand of the
8:24 trainers. cuz I don't think he'll be
8:25 continuing Jack behind the play. He
8:27 looks sick. North Melbourne leading
8:28 carton by three points. It's kicked
8:30 toward Reed and there he is again. He's
8:32 come out of the hands of his trainers
8:34 and said you very
8:36 much see back. You can go too early. You
8:39 can't call it too early. You can't trust
8:41 those players. That's the resurrection.
8:44 The trainer was giving a shepherd at one
8:45 stake. It was unbelievable. Good point.
8:46 I know a lot of other footy shows around
8:48 the place have dropped off the Tazzy
8:49 story, but we're all over it here. We
8:51 will not take our focus off what's going
8:52 on down there. It's crunch time. As it's
8:55 about to go through parliament. If they
8:56 don't get through the upper house,
8:57 they're cooked. This is This is It's
8:58 about You always say this. They don't
9:00 get a stadium. They're in real trouble.
9:01 Well, they It's Well, in the eyes of
9:03 many, it won't happen without the new
9:04 stadium building. There's going to be
9:06 all sorts of legislation rewritten down
9:08 there just to let the thing The problem
9:09 is there's a very vocal minority of of
9:13 local. I don't know if it's minority or
9:14 not, but there's a a vocal amount of
9:16 locals down there who do not want it.
9:18 And we first heard them come out in full
9:20 voice back in 2023 when they protested
9:23 with this catchy tune.
9:27 Your
9:30 stadium stadium up your bum.
9:37 It's powerful in song. One of the great
9:39 protest songs ever written. How many
9:41 roads must a man walk down and you can
9:44 stick it up your bum.
9:46 stick a stadium up your bum. Well, as
9:48 with the music industry, we know and
9:49 protest, it has to evolve and keep
9:51 moving. So, that uh vocal group have
9:55 come out with the same song. Uh but it's
9:57 an extended mix now with musical support
10:01 and extended lyrics.
10:04 Shake your stadium. Shake your stadium.
10:08 Shake your stadium all the way up
10:13 your messy receipt.
10:16 See what they're doing now?
10:19 That's even angrier. That's angry. Now
10:22 the stadium's getting a prostate check.
10:24 I don't know. I don't know where this
10:26 all ends. It only did. What happened to
10:28 the female vocalist that was part of the
10:29 original crew? Who? Yoko.
10:32 She's gone. She's gone.
10:34 Don't go anywhere. We're here for Han.
10:36 How good on the other side of this Doug
10:37 Nichols round starts this weekend. Derek
10:40 and Dale kicking to join us on the other
10:41 side.
11:03 We
11:07 fight for the naughty door for you too
11:09 much. We We tore that joint apart one
11:11 night uh with our state-ofthe-art
11:14 comedy. We looked a bit overdressed. We
11:16 We sang You can stick your stadium up
11:18 your bum for two
11:20 hours and the Han flows freely there. Of
11:22 course, getting involved with the
11:24 program via our social media platforms.
11:25 Cameron Ling not too far away from
11:28 joining us of course and part of the
11:29 commentary team now. Cameron Ling part
11:31 of the commentary fraternity and again
11:33 you keep a very very keen eye. Keen eye
11:36 you do and um you know those signs on
11:39 the boundary line we always see that
11:40 they hold them up and there's a cryptic
11:42 meaning. No one's really sure. GWS and
11:45 Jalong on the weekend they had one there
11:47 and um well first Joel Cwood he had a go
11:50 at it and then Nick Rewalt had a go at
11:53 it too and could not scramble it. I
11:54 don't think they could. Would you have a
11:55 look? Joel, you're probably one to
11:58 answer what that might have been. No, no
12:00 idea what that means. No idea. Anything
12:02 for us, Ruie? Well, I don't know. Maybe
12:04 some sort of killer mode. I don't know.
12:06 Kill the game.
12:10 Wow. Channel 7's still happy with their
12:12 decision to grab Nick from Fox, do you
12:14 reckon? I'm sure he's on the show in a
12:17 couple of weeks. You can ask him. I will
12:19 ask him. Kill a whale. That's a It's an
12:22 It's an Orca. Yeah. So, I've got no idea
12:24 what it means. Okay. But, um, uh, and
12:28 neither did, by the way, neither did
12:30 Joel. We need one of them right now. I
12:33 see going to kill a whale. Listen, I've
12:35 got I was I did have a point. I did have
12:37 a point. What's your point? There was an
12:39 image on the There was another image on
12:41 the weekend down on the boundary line
12:42 that, you know, not as cryptic. Not as
12:44 cryptic. And Cameron Ling, our guest
12:46 coming up, he was uh he was all over it.
12:50 I know what that one means.
12:52 BT that means 2 minutes to go.
12:56 No, thank you. Absolutely.
13:00 One of the best. One of the best in the
13:02 business. Well, if you've done year 10
13:05 in Jalong, you've you know number two.
13:07 So, hey, it's a very special time of the
13:09 season, of course, for the for the 10th
13:11 time. Seduct is upon us over the next uh
13:15 Fortnite. We've got so much to
13:16 celebrate. It's always an honor to
13:18 welcome those who have given us so much
13:20 joy to the show at this time of the
13:22 year. And please do that with us
13:23 tonight. Derek, kick it, everybody.
13:31 Derry, it's it's it's great to have you
13:35 back for what I think is it five your
13:37 fifth appearance. I think that's as as
13:40 many as we've had. We love checking in
13:41 with you on this round. You brought a
13:43 guest with you uh today. Who have you
13:45 got there? Dale spotted me.
13:48 I did. I I couldn't find Nikki, so I
13:50 don't know where he's going. But who
13:51 have you got? I got nephew Dale.
14:00 I've been on five times. Who's got Who's
14:02 got the most? Lee Matthews has got six.
14:05 I need to come back on. Oh, you'll be
14:08 Come back next week if you want. Hey
14:10 Dale, thanks for coming on the show. We
14:12 really appreciate it. Thanks for having
14:13 us. It's a joy. There's a lot to talk to
14:15 you about through it. An amazing career.
14:18 What we want to do is roll because we've
14:20 shown plenty of Derek's highlights when
14:21 he's We'll get to some more later. So,
14:23 we're going to show the highlights of
14:24 Dale Kick It. Now, Dale, I think you're
14:26 a pretty humble champion, so you're not
14:27 going to mention stuff about yourself.
14:28 Derek, when you watch the highlights of
14:31 Dale, tell us about the footballer that
14:33 you see.
14:35 I see a
14:37 young another young original boy coming
14:40 from a small country town called Tannon.
14:42 Yep. Which is where I come from. So, and
14:45 to see somebody else coming after me was
14:48 great to see. And, you know, I hope that
14:50 I inspired him when I was playing footy.
14:53 Um, you know, he's gone on to play at
14:54 Clmont as well where I played footy at
14:56 Clemont. So, it's good. you know, he's
14:58 played a few AFL games and I think what
15:01 stands out for me about Dale is that he
15:03 puts in the hard work and he's been to a
15:06 few clubs, but the last club he played
15:08 for was Freemale Dockers and he's one of
15:11 best in Ferris after being from other
15:13 clubs, you know, so to and that's
15:16 dedication for hard work. Derek, what
15:19 you know I love about that tribute was a
15:20 lot of nice words about Dale, but also
15:22 you managed to slip yourself in a couple
15:23 of times.
15:25 It's
15:26 always a
15:31 I couldn't give too much about Dale
15:32 because he's he's not a left footer.
15:34 Yeah, I know. You're a bit biased. This
15:36 is your last game, Dale. If I think I'm
15:39 right in saying you'd been injured
15:40 earlier in the year and they gave you at
15:41 the tribute game against Port Adelaide
15:43 and I reckon it's a mark of respect when
15:45 the opposition team get around and
15:48 farewell an opponent. Did that that must
15:50 have meant a lot to you that night? Oh,
15:52 definitely. Um, uh, Port were, uh, I
15:55 think they made, they made the grand
15:56 final that year. Anyway, they, um,
15:59 uh, it was good to get that last game
16:01 from, um, uh, I think Chris was coaching
16:04 us at the time, Connelly. Um, uh,
16:06 firstly, and then, uh, for those B to
16:09 all get around and for a lot of, uh, uh,
16:12 my family in Perth, because there's a
16:14 lot of them as well. [ __ ] los.
16:16 Um, sorry about that. Um yeah, so for
16:20 for all those people to hang around,
16:21 particularly the Port Adelaide um boys,
16:23 uh it was great. So we we're looking at
16:25 the highlights there and the thing that
16:26 stood out is you played for five
16:28 different clubs over the journey. There
16:31 you are in your five different jerseys.
16:32 Did you did you ever during a game
16:34 forget who you were playing
16:37 for just handball at the opposition and
16:40 go, "Oh, I don't play with them
16:41 anymore." Yeah, there were five AFL
16:43 clubs. There was about 20 other
16:45 clubs. Didn't end there. Who Dale, who
16:48 had who had the best theme song out of
16:49 the five?
16:51 Oh, definitely. Definitely wasn't the
16:54 Dockers.
16:56 I think we can all agree agree on that,
16:58 Derek. Yeah. My favorite song was the
17:00 the club that I didn't play for was was
17:02 uh Richmond's cuz
17:06 you know what, Dale? If you'd only tried
17:08 harder, you could have got six.
17:10 Well, only there's only three BS who
17:12 have played for five clubs in the
17:13 history of the game. So, it's quite
17:14 something. When Plugger was on in your
17:15 time at Sincer, when Plugger was on the
17:17 lead, there was a piece of the
17:18 highlights there. Did you feel under any
17:20 extra pressure to make sure that you hit
17:21 him lace out? Uh, kicking towards him
17:25 was much easier than uh wondering where
17:28 he was if you were, you know, in front
17:29 of him. Yeah, I bet cuz I see him I've
17:33 seen him nearly
17:36 killed even his own players.
17:39 It's better to have him on your side.
17:41 Uh, tell us about your first early
17:43 memories. You say you come from the same
17:44 little town and growing up and this
17:46 bloke standing beside you must have been
17:49 a mentor. What are your first memories
17:51 of watching Derek go about the business?
17:53 Um, yeah. Well, Derek was from a long
17:56 line of uh uh our family that, you know,
17:59 played footy for Tam. And um um I
18:02 suppose uh if we weren't to be um uh but
18:08 you know we were going to be
18:10 footballers. Yeah. Yes. And and uh wheat
18:13 farmers and cheerers and [ __ ] like that.
18:15 So
18:16 So I had to be I had to be a uh I had to
18:21 be a footballer cuz um um Sherim was
18:25 bloody hardworking.
18:27 But what do you remember of him? What do
18:29 you remember of him? Was it what was it
18:30 about his game that you loved going to
18:32 watch down? Oh, yeah. Um, well, Tamman
18:35 Footy Oil is one of the biggest ones in
18:36 the in in the AAN League. Um, and uh,
18:41 probably torpedoes. Oh, yes. Well, funny
18:43 you mention that. Well, I love the
18:46 torpedo. I just wish there was a way to
18:47 get it back into the game. And we've
18:49 managed to cobble cobble together,
18:50 Derek, some of your favorite. Uh, that
18:54 one. Uh, boom shaka lacker. This is as
18:57 good as it gets. Uh, this one turned up
19:01 on
19:02 radar. Look at that. That was one of the
19:04 best. This one here, off two steps.
19:08 That caused a diplomatic incident.
19:11 Here we go. Uh, this one here burned up
19:13 on re-entry. That is as good as on the
19:16 run. And you a bork to do it. This is
19:20 just insane, mate. Well, with with the
19:22 last name kick it. Yeah. You know, we
19:24 had to play footy. What about this one?
19:26 I couldn't play net ball or on the on
19:28 the run. On the run and a ball. That's
19:31 Did you have a Did you have a favorite?
19:33 You know, did what was it? One step,
19:34 three steps on the run. Just a one or
19:36 two step. Yeah, that was the one. Dale,
19:38 could you kick the top the way Derek
19:40 could? Look at this. Um, no. But I I did
19:45 win a comp in we used to play at a
19:47 original carnival in Jerton at the end
19:49 of the year one. And um uh I think that
19:53 was the only time I might have beaten in
19:55 the tor. We we Yeah, I won the torp
19:59 comp. D, why would you why would you
20:01 bother with torps? Because because
20:03 there's torps that's fine, but mate,
20:04 high marks is is another another thing
20:07 that's getting lost in the game. And
20:08 before we show some vision, I just want
20:09 to show you a couple of your um uh a
20:13 couple of photos of you going up here.
20:15 That's that's it's incredible. Yeah. Do
20:17 you remember that? Who you playing for
20:18 there, mate? Clen, that's uh Nisham
20:22 number 11 there. Stand on his head.
20:25 You can take that one. Do you remember?
20:26 That was Captain Coach, probably. Can't
20:29 remember. Are you standing on your
20:30 captain coach? That was a good thing.
20:32 Look at this one here, mate. Look at
20:33 that. Beautiful. Is that Clmont again?
20:35 Uh yeah, it's Clmont Swans. um Tony
20:37 Evans and Greg Walker, but those black
20:39 shiny little fellas, so
20:42 so it wasn't really a still it's a you
20:44 know it's it's an amazing you know um by
20:47 the way it's no there's no cameras there
20:49 to capture uh the vision so we have to
20:52 take your word for it that you
20:56 mate when you bring them in like you
20:58 brought your talks in we'll play
20:59 them the um I'm going to say though we
21:02 saw some still photos of Dale No moving
21:05 no moving to which is a shame, but even
21:07 even having cameras at the ground uh
21:10 doesn't doesn't necessarily guarantee
21:12 that we're going to see the see the
21:13 mark. And here you go. This is for you,
21:15 Derek. This is the greatest mark you
21:16 ever took. Please enjoy it. I'm courtesy
21:19 of Channel 7's director.
21:30 Oh, this is wonderful.
21:36 I was I was standing on his shoulders.
21:38 Well,
21:40 how good was it? It was good. I was
21:42 stand on his shoulders. Well, that was
21:45 I'm sure it was great, but we did get a
21:46 a chance to see it. Gary, I did a I did
21:49 a I did a somersault in the air while
21:52 calm down, Derek. Here's a few of your
21:54 best ones. We love these. Talk us
21:56 through them. Uh, this is a one for the
21:59 ages.
22:01 An absolute ripper.
22:03 One of the Oh, Dale, how you didn't hurt
22:06 yourself when you landed in is beyond.
22:09 This is a beautiful mark here, D too.
22:12 There it is. Everything you need in the
22:15 one mark. And this is my favorite. And
22:18 I'll There he is. Why is that? Was that
22:20 over Lingy? Yeah. No, it wasn't over
22:22 Lingy. But why is that your favorite?
22:23 It's my favorite because you were
22:25 playing in the back pocket at the time.
22:28 So, have a look again. It is Julong.
22:30 They they put the ball in you. Now,
22:32 you're supposed to go the punch here and
22:34 No,
22:39 that is just outrageous, babe. What did
22:41 she say when he lucky he said lucky you
22:44 took that mark?
22:47 Now, there's there's some dispute about
22:49 you definitely played a game a game of
22:51 footy together 1994. We played the
22:53 Allstars game up in Darwin against
22:55 Collingwood. Do you remember much about
22:56 this game? What are your memories of
22:58 this afternoon up in the top end?
23:02 Um,
23:04 well the the number of people that come
23:06 from all over Australia to see it, you
23:09 know, there were a lot of our relatives
23:11 there as well. Um because it was a game
23:15 that probably
23:18 um we you know we we never we didn't
23:21 know that we we we would do it again.
23:23 Yep. Um you know 10 years later or 20
23:25 years later or the one just recently.
23:27 Yeah. So um uh yeah it was it was a bit
23:31 bit of an honor to play with some of the
23:32 BS that I played with there.
23:34 Unfortunately um uh Nick and uh and
23:38 Longie missed that game through injury
23:40 and and whatever else. Yeah. It's always
23:42 a pleasure to see the Allstar team go
23:44 around together. It's a rare treat. But
23:47 um strangely that's not my strongest
23:50 memory of that game. There's one that
23:52 stands out above it and it's the goal
23:54 umpire. See if you can pick it. And
24:00 hello girls. Dinner's on. Look at that.
24:04 In his defense, he just come straight
24:06 from October Fest.
24:08 October Fest.
24:10 I see a man who's helping police with
24:12 their inquiry.
24:15 That is one hell of a thing. A get up. I
24:18 know you're always excited. Well, you
24:20 know, I I I I am always excited to see,
24:23 you know, I love you. I've always You're
24:24 my favorite player even though I worked
24:26 for Carlton. I'll give you 100 bucks
24:27 later. Yeah, you were my favorite
24:29 player. I first time I met you, I told
24:31 that. And I wanted to say to everyone
24:33 loves you your appreciates your football
24:35 career. I just want to say this with a
24:37 complete he history of uh staunch
24:41 heterosexuality. You are a handsome
24:44 man. And by the way, in your prime in
24:48 your prime, have a you are just
24:50 stunning, mate. Have a look at you. You
24:52 are
24:53 just the hair,
24:58 mate. You look you're just you're magn
25:00 The hair is unbelievable. And and
25:02 holding on only the gray spot here. I I
25:05 hear what you're saying, Sam. Derrick's
25:07 got the got everyone covered. I think
25:08 Dale's got Derek covered. Hello, Dale.
25:11 Look at that.
25:13 What kind of mullet is that? Hey, that's
25:16 that's that's party at the front and
25:17 party at the back. That one. That That's
25:20 a mullet freakoff.
25:22 That That is
25:25 massive. Was it a sad day when you had
25:27 to get rid of the mullet, D? Uh yeah.
25:30 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A special round, of
25:33 course, the Doug Nichols round. Um, we
25:34 get the chance to say thank you to all
25:36 the indigenous players who have given us
25:38 so much and there's so much great
25:40 storytelling associated with the round
25:42 nowadays and we're all better for it.
25:43 The jumpers are a representation of
25:45 that. And I know you've got I think you
25:47 might have the Sydney one with you,
25:48 Derek, but Darl, have you got the
25:49 Freemantle jumper there? And do you have
25:51 any sort of basic idea what the what the
25:54 story of this year's jumper might be?
25:56 Hold up and just show us. Yeah, this one
25:58 is uh by Jeff Farmer and uh the wizard.
26:01 There is only one wizard. um uh and his
26:04 and his father. Um and you know the
26:08 story is uh well he originally played um
26:11 in the uh the original colors um you
26:14 know the um chevrons uh the uh green,
26:18 white and red. Um there's a story about
26:20 the Chitty Chitties. Um uh I'm not too
26:24 sure about that, but and and it's got
26:25 the um the um notified biscuits on here,
26:29 which is uh uh originally from the um uh
26:32 Kimbley's um uh that you know represents
26:35 um sorry day for uh us as a as a mob.
26:39 And he he also put you know um the most
26:42 uh originalinal blacks that was in the
26:44 free metal team in um uh which is seven
26:47 and the traditional bank west
26:51 I
26:53 still don't know whether you know the
26:55 full story of the Swanies jumper but but
26:57 you've got another family member who's
26:59 performing over Sir Doug Nichols around
27:01 somewhere aren't you don't you? Yeah,
27:02 this is um done by an artist uh from the
27:05 La Peruse La Peruse community in New
27:08 South Wales uh Jordan Adler. So it's a I
27:11 think it's a story about the Sydney
27:13 Swans headquarters. So great work there.
27:15 Thanks for bringing it in in my
27:17 size. So appreciate that. Yeah. So it's
27:21 um you know to celebrate Nadok
27:23 indigenous round with with our mob. It's
27:25 it's great you know and our players look
27:27 forward to that. They look look forward
27:29 to representing our community, our mob.
27:31 Um but even our you know our community
27:33 people all around the community love to
27:34 come and watch these indigenous round
27:37 games and yeah my grandson um plays he's
27:41 not a footballer but he's uh he's a
27:43 singer. So he's he's um singing at the
27:46 half the game of Western Bulldogs and
27:48 the Essen game on Saturday night and his
27:50 name is Sadric Kickot and he's 19 years
27:52 of age and he's just bringing out his
27:54 deboo single. So, it's called uh Shock
27:56 Waves. And so, you know, everybody
27:58 there.
28:02 Hey, um and talking about talking about
28:06 grandsons, I've got three grandsons that
28:08 are playing in the AFL at the moment,
28:09 which is Liam Henry for St. Kilder. Yes.
28:12 Uh Cosie Pigot and
28:15 uh Quinton Knuckle. So, there you go.
28:18 Amazing legacy.
28:20 your um the combined contribution from
28:23 you two uh speaks for itself. We love
28:26 this weekend here on this show. Um and
28:28 we thank you for everything you've done
28:30 for our great game.
28:38 Um yeah, before we go uh um the you know
28:43 from where we come from um uh I like to
28:47 acknowledge you know our our whole
28:49 community and in our footy club there
28:50 and and you know uh where my um fathers
28:54 and uncles and grandfathers and and and
28:57 nephews and and they still play footy.
29:00 Um I brought in um um a jumper of teen's
29:04 now amalgamated with Keller Baron and
29:06 Derek played in the premiership there in
29:07 98 and I played in one in 2004 when I
29:09 when I retired and uh and I I got a
29:13 little bit of pressure from the boys and
29:14 I thought I had to bring it in to show
29:15 it. Perfect.
29:17 That
29:22 is that'll mean that'll mean the world
29:24 to them and at least you went and got
29:26 your premiership after all this the
29:28 really serious stuff was done, mate. So
29:29 well done you. I'll see you at the
29:30 doodly
29:32 tablet. Everybody don't go
29:48 anywhere. Welcome back to the
29:51 show. How good are our next guest
29:53 tonight? a three-time premiership
29:55 player, premiership captain, uh all
29:57 Australian, best and fairest winner at
29:59 his footy club, but more than all of
30:01 that, heart and soul and help build the
30:03 foundation of what's become one of the
30:05 great football clubs in the competition.
30:07 Please make him welcome Cameron Ling.
30:12 Thank you, Andy. That's very kind of
30:14 you, Ly. You're a humble. You've always
30:16 been a humble and modest man and you'd
30:18 never ever um say that about yourself,
30:20 but it takes people like you who are
30:22 selfless and put team first, which you
30:24 did throughout your entire career to
30:26 help build the sort of team that
30:27 Jalong's become. So, no, that that means
30:29 a lot to me. It's great to hear it.
30:31 Hopefully, my kids have stayed up late
30:32 to watch it and listen to it. Thanks so
30:34 much for having me. No, it's a joy to
30:36 have a bit of early for a eulogy, isn't
30:38 it? He's just our guest. He's actually
30:42 did have a bit of
30:44 contribution. It didn't mean to come
30:46 out. Here we go. So, the highlights
30:48 speak for themselves. I want to ask you,
30:50 you're born in Jalong, be grew up a
30:52 Jalong supporter, went to those painful
30:55 Jalong grand finals before you started
30:57 playing as a fan. Then you get to play
30:59 for your footy club and you do what you
31:01 did in 2007 and beyond, which we'll get
31:03 to. When you reflect on this, is it
31:06 dream is it actually dream come true
31:08 stuff? Yeah, it genuinely is, Andy. Um,
31:11 I was, as you mentioned, crazy cats fan.
31:13 I went to that ground so many times. Oh,
31:16 I actually got off the ground there.
31:18 That's great. Um, and all I all I ever
31:22 dreamed of really honestly uh was seeing
31:25 the Cats win a premiership. I never for
31:27 one truly one second truly thought that
31:30 I would be out there on that day. Um, so
31:32 to see this this vision and to reminisce
31:36 a little bit. Uh, it it is an amazing
31:38 feeling. I enjoyed that moment
31:40 especially. I bet you did. That was the
31:42 last one. I did carry on like an idiot
31:44 after it, but uh yeah, that was
31:46 beautiful. A great time. Yeah, I bet it
31:47 was. Yeah. Well, listen, we're here. You
31:49 got off the ground. You did get off the
31:51 ground for one. It was um I'm a little I
31:54 find it a little uncomfortable seeing
31:56 those highlights after having just
31:57 watched Dale and Derek's highlight. Um I
32:01 appreciate you making me follow them.
32:02 Lingy, mate, that's that's very humble
32:04 of you to say, but and and and spot on,
32:07 by the way.
32:10 I just You know what? Thanks for
32:12 mentioning it. You know, for those
32:13 viewers at home, just who may have uh
32:16 drifted off during Lingies. No, you may
32:19 have just lost a bit of interest during
32:21 Lingy's highlights. Um, let's go. Let's
32:24 play some more Derek and D.Y.
32:34 Oh, wow. Okay. That was similar to my
32:37 mom.
32:39 What's he doing? I used to get around
32:40 players like that.
32:43 Um, could you have t could you have
32:44 tagged either of those blades? Yeah. No,
32:46 cuz they would have sat on my head and
32:48 taken hangers. Um, there wasn't many
32:50 people at that crowd at that last. All
32:52 right, now you're just getting bit.
32:55 So, part of your ascent to the Jalong
32:58 team was through the mighty Jalong
32:59 Falcons, which been such a rich
33:01 recruiting ground for the Jalong Footy
33:03 Club. There you are, full forward leader
33:05 of that team under 18. It was in the TAC
33:07 in the um TAC cup. You were full
33:10 forward. The bloke who was your center
33:12 half forward is in the next row, three
33:14 from the right. Yes, the great Jonathan
33:17 Brown. Um I got to play with him. He was
33:19 incredible. What a player. He he
33:21 completely dominated uh in that under 18
33:24 year. We we made a grand final together
33:26 as 17 year olds. Uh we lost it
33:28 unfortunately and then the following
33:30 year we made the finals and Brownie just
33:32 completely took over the comp. He was
33:34 phenomenal. So you were he was a center
33:36 forward and you were a full ford. Yeah,
33:37 I was a bit of a decoy Sam. No, no, he
33:41 keep you know I asked I asked Brownie
33:43 about what you know about memories of
33:45 playing with you in the under8s and his
33:48 greatest memory is that your mother had
33:50 the best toasted
33:53 sandwiches that that's that's true. What
33:55 was the secret to to Mrs. Ling's toasted
33:57 sandwich? Uh probably the fact that was
33:59 occurring at about 2:00 in the morning
34:01 right would often stay at our house and
34:04 we'd try and hush him like just just be
34:06 quiet. Let's just get to bed. Let's not
34:08 wake up mom and dad. And he would carry
34:10 on and mom would come down and cook him
34:12 up pretty much an entire loaf of toasted
34:15 sandwiches and he'd be chatting away. Uh
34:18 he loved staying at our place for that
34:19 reason only. I might need to see some ID
34:22 though and with the under 18s team. Look
34:24 at
34:25 the the bloke next to you is clearly
34:28 fudging it
34:30 and a bloke on there who could have
34:32 spent 8 to 10 years in the
34:34 pen. This is
34:37 Stickers for the rules down there. Under
34:40 18s are under 58.
34:43 That's unbelievable. One of those is
34:44 former Bulldogs player Brian Cy. He was
34:46 our coach. Oh, there you go. Yeah, great
34:48 guy. So, full forward at the elite
34:50 junior level, nextep AFL. And you become
34:54 one of the game's most feared and
34:56 revered taggers. How did that transition
35:00 come about? Uh, well, I got to play
35:02 under the the great Mark Thompson, the
35:04 brilliant coach. And he um said to me
35:06 after about my first season, he said,
35:08 "You need a few more strings to your
35:09 bow. You need to um be able to play
35:12 maybe up through the middle of the
35:13 ground." I was never quite going to be
35:14 tall enough to be a key position
35:16 forward. Maybe not going to be quick
35:17 enough to be a small, medium forward.
35:20 So, he said, "Learn how to play as a
35:21 midfielder. Learn how to play on some of
35:23 the best players in the game." Look at
35:25 that highlights, P. You've played on
35:27 some of the best players to ever play
35:28 the game. Is is there one you who was
35:31 particularly tough for you? That's a bit
35:32 That's a bit drip tray, mate. What's
35:35 going on? Sam, can I What are you doing?
35:37 Don't Sam, can I like Excalibur? Can I
35:41 just quickly say your drip tray um has
35:44 really given me a massive boost to my
35:45 ego because when you've asked Simon
35:47 Black and Ben Cousins and Dan Swan who
35:49 their hardest opponent is um they have
35:52 very kindly sent me. Um, we now play
35:54 that on radio
35:58 and I play it to my kids all the time.
36:00 Who was it? Who was it for you? Who was
36:02 it? Um, oh, early early days. So, when I
36:04 was really young, um, Shane Crawford
36:06 towed me up the worst I've ever been
36:07 towed up. I was petrified playing on
36:10 Herie because he'd take me forward and
36:13 he could take a hanger on me. Adam Goods
36:15 was tough to stop cuz he was so big as
36:17 well as so athletic. Um, and then I
36:20 could I could have clubbed Simon Black
36:22 over the head with a baseball bat and he
36:24 still would have kept getting the foot
36:25 in. He was just phenomenal. Yeah, I
36:27 think you are in the conversation for
36:29 the greatest tagger of all time on and
36:30 off the field. Even as a boundary rider,
36:32 you used to like to tag players.
36:35 One of my biggest strengths the
36:37 last does go
36:42 on a few
36:43 times. Another big one you're creating
36:46 with Jack Crisp. Can I say you kept Jack
36:49 Crisp to no
36:51 possession as he he went to the boundary
36:53 line there. I got yelled at by the
36:55 cameraman that day. So cuz he's running
36:57 backwards the whole time doing that.
36:59 He's don't ever do that again. So you
37:02 get to 2007 Lingy. We know the backstory
37:04 of you now kid growing up a Jalong
37:06 supporter and you're part of this day.
37:08 44 years been a real drought. Is you
37:10 kicking the ceiler?
37:12 No. Well, it was a what a day. I mean,
37:14 you must have known so far out that it
37:16 was yours. And to see what this meant to
37:18 so all your heroes, those guys that you
37:20 went and watched. Yeah, absolutely. I
37:21 think you said before I went to ' 89,
37:23 92, 94, 95. I was one of those tortured
37:27 Cats fans who just wanted to see a
37:29 premiership. So that people often ask
37:31 me, you know, was that game kind of
37:32 boring? You know, did it just blew out
37:34 so much? I'm like, no, it's still the
37:36 greatest day I've ever been involved in
37:38 because it was great footy for us. It
37:40 was fun footie, but it meant the world
37:42 to so many people. and number of people
37:44 afterwards who were just in tears um
37:47 having finally experienced that
37:48 premiership. It was brilliant. There was
37:50 great scenes after the game of course
37:51 with your very loyal fan base and you
37:53 guys were straight over to the boundary
37:54 line to share this moment with your
37:57 fans. Here's a fan you're meeting uh for
38:00 the first
38:07 time. I've
38:09 got that's I've got to say you you
38:13 really give 110% with the fan
38:15 engagement. Can I ask if you have you
38:18 ever She just wanted She just wanted a
38:19 selfie, Nick. Unbelievable. Have you
38:21 ever seen that girl since? Uh I am happy
38:24 to say, Mick, that is my wife.
38:27 That is your wife. Three kids later.
38:30 Yeah. All right. Well, she may be your
38:32 wife, but I'm I'm surprised she still is
38:35 your wife after you made these comments
38:37 at a function.
38:40 That's still the greatest day ever.
38:41 Sorry, Doddy, when we got married and
38:43 having the kids and all that,
38:46 but the 07 grand final. Nothing will
38:48 ever top that.
38:51 Wow.
38:54 Do you want to walk that back at all?
38:56 Uh, yeah. We managed to work our way
38:57 through that. Well, you work through
38:59 that, but I don't know how you work
39:02 through this when she walked in and had
39:04 to witness this.
39:06 I
39:08 mean, what is going on there? And you in
39:11 a premiership cup in a compromising
39:12 position.
39:14 Busted, wasn't I? You were busted. Uh,
39:16 that was after my last game, that one.
39:18 That's a 2011. And being the captain, I
39:20 got to take the cup home with me. So,
39:22 that was nice. I didn't mind getting
39:24 busted with that one. So, an amazing
39:26 one. You mentioned 2011, so 7 911.
39:29 You're part of them all. You're the
39:30 skipper in 2011. It goes on to be your
39:33 last game. I'll talk to you about Chris
39:35 in a minute, but you must have known
39:37 going in that that was going to be your
39:39 last game. Not really, Andy. It's funny.
39:41 Um, I was pretty good at being able to
39:43 compartmentalize things and I just
39:45 pushed it aside as far as making a
39:47 decision. If you'd forced me and sat me
39:50 down and said, "You must tell me now.
39:51 Your life depends on it." Probably. But
39:54 I kind of just wanted to see how it
39:55 went. And it wasn't until the next day,
39:57 the Sunday, we're we're at one of the
39:58 local pubs and I was just sitting
40:00 quietly with Chris Scott and I just
40:02 said, "Uh, I'm done, mate. That that'll
40:04 do me." And he very kindly um and I love
40:07 him for this. Said, "Can I try and talk
40:09 you out of it?" And I said, "No, mate.
40:11 I'm I'm finished. I'm I'm at peace. I'm
40:13 I'm completely my body's cooked
40:15 mentally. I'm cooked. Um we've done it
40:18 and let's get on with enjoying the day."
40:19 So, it was the next day when I just
40:21 fully said, "Yep." after night with a
40:23 premiership cup. You were physically
40:24 cooked as well.
40:29 You took over for as um you took over
40:31 from Billy Brownless as the as the king
40:33 of Jalong or the mayor of Jalong. You
40:35 are absolutely um just loved down there.
40:38 And nothing proves that more than when
40:40 you are making Richo, our great mate
40:44 Richo. Speaking of beloved, no one more
40:46 beloved than Richo. Well, except you
40:48 because you make him look
40:49 like there at
40:52 all. It's just tough to watch, Mari. But
40:55 um you know the best thing about you
40:56 Lies, you're always think you're always
40:59 thinking of others and you got Richo
41:00 involved.
41:09 Rich has no idea, but he's probably
41:11 handling stolen goods
41:13 there. You don't go anywhere. There's
41:15 plenty more to talk to you about on the
41:16 other side of the road. Cameron
41:32 L. Spoke to Sam Mitchell the other day.
41:34 He said Josh Morris's nickname is Tank.
41:38 Not because of his build, Tank Morris.
41:41 because I think it was one of the
41:43 recruiters had a last name Morris and
41:45 his name nickname was Tank and he picked
41:48 this kid up so they gave him Tank
41:50 Morris.
41:58 Can we can we not play that? Is that we
42:01 can look forward to on Krock every
42:03 morning out there in Jalong is there.
42:06 I'm taking you on in the bre out of me
42:08 mate and you'll know it. I'll tell you
42:12 Krock it's what hours you doing? I'm uh
42:15 I'm doing 7 till 9 Monday to Thursday
42:18 because I'm inspired by some of the
42:21 great and who else is on the show? Uh
42:23 Tom and Logy
42:26 house household names
42:29 where everybody tune in tomorrow morning
42:31 and give them a good old listen. I
42:32 reckon tomorrow
42:36 can I just can I just point out Tom? Oh,
42:38 I don't care for logging. That's all I'm
42:40 saying. Can I just say one thing? That
42:42 anecdote was uh how would I how would I
42:45 say this? Brutal. Um and just in case
42:48 for those watching at home, if we've
42:49 lost you, um here's another Derek Ken
42:52 highlight. I just want to have a look at
42:55 this, mate.
43:02 Oh my god. There you go. You got your
43:04 back. Whatever makes Whatever makes a
43:06 man think that he can do that.
43:08 Same same thing that makes a man think
43:10 he can tell an anecdote.
43:12 Well, your time has come to be exposed
43:15 to one of the great segments on
43:16 Australian television. It's time now for
43:19 Sam's Trip Train.
43:26 Heavy heavy tonight. Loaded. I doubt
43:29 you'll be loaded. Doubt you'll be
43:30 replaying any of this on tomorrow's
43:32 show.
43:34 You know how drip tray works. Yes.
43:36 Punchy answers. You can you can pass if
43:38 you want. We're just here to just try to
43:39 find out things that we've somehow
43:41 you've mentioned your toughest opponent.
43:42 Or did you? No, I avoided that one. Oh,
43:45 well, who was it? No, you mentioned a
43:48 few. Yeah, you mentioned a few. Passing
43:50 on your toughest opponent.
43:52 Well, this is going to be
43:55 We're Have you got to do it? Kick it
43:58 hard. Kick it hard. There we go.
44:08 No way. How can this be?
44:16 How did he? He's got to be cleaner than
44:18 that. Pick it up first time.
44:21 All right. Listen. Remember punchy.
44:22 Yeah. Start the clock.
44:25 Going to start the alarm clock. That's
44:27 what I would suggest. Best player you
44:29 ever seen? Gary Albert senior. All
44:31 right. Uh Bomber Thompson was your coach
44:34 for most of your career. Can you
44:35 remember a single thing he ever said to
44:37 you? Uh yeah, a few sprays. Few big
44:41 sprays. Yeah. Any anecdotes?
44:44 Um here's one for you. What what you
44:46 know Jalong uh Jalong cop a little bit
44:49 of flack from time to time? What suburb
44:52 do people from Jalong hang [ __ ] on? Oh,
44:55 wow. I've got to walk down some of these
44:57 streets, but
44:59 some of the some of the northern suburbs
45:01 come a little bit behind. All right,
45:03 cool. Um, f favorite favorite redhead in
45:07 history.
45:09 There's Ralph Mouth, there's Ginger
45:10 Megs. You know who's your favorite? Um,
45:12 anyone you have one? Prince Harry.
45:13 Prince Harry until we stuff things up.
45:18 First car, Cameron Link, it was a VL
45:20 Holden Commodore tinted windows.
45:26 stolen if I shout out to dodgy. Favorite
45:30 food? Ice cream.
45:33 Well, that's you're it's like you're an
45:35 8-year-old child. What about something
45:38 savory? What's your like a meal? I love
45:40 a good steak. Okay. Great steak. How do
45:42 you have it? Medium rare. Nice. What's
45:44 your favorite cut? Uh porter house. Well
45:47 done. Choice sauce. Is that the best?
45:49 That's the correct choice of sauce. Uh
45:51 just a like a simple gravy. Okay. Right.
45:54 I would have thought it been a red wine
45:56 jew.
45:57 Anyway, favorite drink?
46:00 Uh freshlysqueezed orange juice.
46:10 That's a good answer.
46:14 Goes with the hair. What about the pulp?
46:17 Yeah, love the pulp. Leave the pulp in.
46:19 Do you do you squeeze it yourself? Yeah.
46:23 Favorite TV show growing up? Oh, growing
46:26 up, um,
46:29 I loved Succession recently. I'm trying
46:31 to think when you're growing up.
46:33 The Simpsons. Love The Simpsons. Okay,
46:35 cool. Favorite movie. In the Name of the
46:37 Father. Oh, strong. Daniel D. Lewis.
46:40 Yeah. Yeah. It's a real chickflick.
46:43 That's a real great
46:46 poss. But anyway, great soundtrack.
46:49 Favorite band? The Beatles.
46:52 Wow. It's some topical references there.
46:55 Ling. All
46:56 right. Chuterie boards are very big at
46:58 the moment. You know that, don't you?
46:59 You know that all the little nibbly food
47:02 stuff. You're putting I'm coming over
47:03 for dinner, but I've requested a
47:05 chuterie board. What are you What's your
47:07 big three? What are you definitely going
47:08 with? Cheese.
47:12 Bickies. Yeah. Cheese and bickies. And
47:14 some dip.
47:16 I I'd go I' I'd throw a little pickle in
47:18 there. Okay. Just a little a little one.
47:20 Just no. No meats. Any cured meats?
47:24 Yeah, sure.
47:28 I'm I'm going to suggest that you're
47:29 probably close to your last question.
47:32 Is that fair? Just when I was getting
47:33 going. Yeah. Well, we saw your wife
47:36 earlier. Yes. Best wedding present you
47:38 received? Uh cash.
47:43 That's it. All right. Two quick ones to
47:44 finish. Favorite color? Blue. Oh, that's
47:47 controversial.
47:50 And this is the big finish. Yeah.
47:52 Favorite vegetable
47:56 potato.
47:58 Very versatile. It is chips, mash,
48:00 roast, fries. Were you expecting I was
48:04 expecting carrot, but don't worry about
48:07 And that
48:08 was onion.
48:17 No one would pass on your toughest
48:19 opponent. You say, "Hey, he was a really
48:21 tough player." Because if you get people
48:24 on here in future, I still want them to
48:26 keep saying me, so I don't want to
48:27 exclude them. Oh, yeah. Okay. Hey, we we
48:30 love having you on, Le, and we
48:31 congratulations to you and your your
48:33 great football club. Well, they're
48:35 sometimes the envy of every other club
48:36 because you've got your own home ground,
48:38 your own place, and what I love is you
48:41 stick together. You lot. You really are
48:43 thick as thieves down there in Jalong.
48:48 There he is. He rates himself a little
48:51 bit. Uh, very nice, Stevie.
48:54 Congratulations. Five and five after 10.
48:56 Be pretty happy with that. Thanks for
48:58 joining us. Yeah, no worries. Thanks,
48:59 boys. Steve Johnson down in the rooms
49:01 and get the feeling Lingy trying to slip
49:03 one into him right now.
49:16 Can you
49:18 confirm that again? Why do he stays with
49:22 you? I don't know. Cameron, thanks for
49:24 coming on,
49:27 mate. Thank you so
49:29 much. Very
49:34 special up next.
49:45 is unfiltered. This club means
49:47 everything to me and it's where I want
49:48 to be for the rest of my life.
49:50 Unfiltered tonight on 7 and 7 plus.
49:58 Welcome back to the front bar for Han.
50:00 How good a joy to have them as part of
50:02 the show this year. Congratulations on
50:04 Daraban getting your Falcons getting up
50:06 two in a row.
50:08 A thumping.
50:10 Absolute thumping. A 10 goal thumping.
50:13 Who did you We No, we beat Wallen who
50:16 were very very good, great hosts and our
50:18 team played all right. So we're going
50:20 play all right. 10 goals up. You were
50:21 saying it could have been a lot bigger.
50:24 No, you said you won't be defeated this
50:25 season. No, we've already lost one so I
50:27 wouldn't have said that.
50:29 Well, there's a grading game anyway.
50:31 What are you doing? We're going. Okay.
50:33 Uh we'll see this week. They're going to
50:34 be tough. Uh round 10, of course, the uh
50:37 the real stuff that we've got to look
50:38 forward to. The big the big time stuff
50:40 starts tomorrow night. Going to be a
50:41 great game up there in Darwin. Gold
50:44 Coast are proving unbeatable up there.
50:46 The great Sir Doug Nichols round
50:47 indigenous names of the clubs and the
50:49 jumpers are such a great part of this
50:51 week and next week. A lot to look
50:52 forward to. Gee, that's a big game.
50:54 Richmond North Melbourne, isn't it? Big
50:56 game. It is. Could be another big win
50:59 for for the Tigers. Again, keeping a lid
51:01 on it. keeping keeping a little the
51:03 other big story for is the is the
51:05 injuries in this round and there's none
51:07 bigger than the one guy Sebastian's
51:09 carrying after the weekend. Uh ruptured
51:12 the Achilles ended up having to leave
51:14 the ground early.
51:17 I haven't seen this since Nikki
51:19 Webster's shoulder popped out during the
51:21 anthem
51:24 at the 2000 Olympics. Do you remember
51:26 that? I remember it. I mean that was
51:27 harrowing but this one's right up there.
51:29 I was once at a Kylie Manoke concert
51:31 that she cut short because of a torn
51:32 meniscus.
51:34 Yeah. Well, I always remember that
51:36 horrific head clash between the
51:37 Veronicus and
51:40 it's
51:41 just all the time. Kate Sabrano sang the
51:44 national anthem with with a severe
51:46 corking.
51:49 This is up there. Keith Keith Urban had
51:52 to leave leave a concert with osteitis
51:53 pubis once. You know that he did, mate.
51:56 It's an overuse injury. You know that,
51:58 don't you? Anyway,
52:02 time now for the multi.
52:10 Here we go. This could be a multi for
52:13 the ages. Get on board is my suggestion.
52:15 First up, and a nice touch by the Jalong
52:18 players on the weekend. These are
52:20 beautiful pictures as they gifted their
52:23 moms with flowers. So beautiful as they
52:26 ran out through the banner on Mother's
52:28 Day, each with a bouquet. And this is
52:31 what it's all about. And there's the
52:33 moms so proud of their sons. And there's
52:36 uh the flowers. And it's just great to
52:38 see. Um I'd like to wager all those
52:41 flowers were stolen from the Jalong
52:43 cemetery.
52:46 No. No. On the way to the ground. No,
52:48 you can't. No, you can't have it. No,
52:51 you can't have it.
52:52 Take the Giants at the line. I'll give
52:54 you $1.90 for that. What do you reckon?
52:56 Uh, I'll take it. Uh, here we go. Second
52:59 leg. Now, this car fan found out the
53:02 hard way that uh you got to be careful
53:03 where you sit. You can get too close to
53:06 the action. Here we go. And bang.
53:10 Oh, right in the head. That's why I go
53:13 to the footy.
53:15 Bang. There's the guy. I'd like to wage
53:18 that. That's the last time Bruce D sits
53:20 behind the girls.
53:23 See, it does. Yeah, I saw Bruce. That
53:26 was Bruce D.
53:29 You don't see him in public. No, you
53:30 don't. That's true. You can't have it.
53:32 But how about you take Nai Wangon Miller
53:34 who did the punching in that ball to
53:35 have over 26 and a half and you have a
53:37 $186. All right. I love it. Third leg.
53:40 Now, I think this aquarium worker is
53:42 taking the job of looking after the
53:43 animals a little too seriously. Here he
53:45 is. and
53:49 east. It's It's like an aquatic Dancing
53:52 with the Stars or something this one.
53:55 There it is just dancing up a storm hit
53:59 the aquarium. Um
54:04 Oh, what do you got? I'd like to I'll
54:06 get you out of this. Whatever happens,
54:07 I'll get you out of this. I'd like to
54:10 wager. I had no idea that the latest
54:12 Jaws movie was a chickflick.
54:15 Jaws seems to soften off. No. Well, I'd
54:19 also like to suggest guys, wait a
54:21 spoiler alert, but at the end I think
54:23 she gets her gills out.
54:33 It gets really It gets really uh at the
54:38 end it's it's it turns a bit 50 Shades
54:41 of Grayness.
54:44 You know what you're trying? No, hold
54:46 on. He can't have it. Can we have Can I
54:48 have another Derek Kicker?
54:52 Highlight. Well, look at that. Cheering
54:55 the multi.
54:58 We're going to run out of kick and
54:59 highlights. That's something I thought
55:00 I'd never say. You can't have it. But
55:02 how about you say, "Will Ashcraftoft
55:03 have over 25 and a half and you have 189
55:06 for that." All right, let's boot this
55:08 baby home. Huge news this week. as Ver
55:10 Coley and that's in retirement from the
55:12 test arena after 14 years and have been
55:15 so many magical moments. How do you pick
55:16 just one? Um this is my favorite
55:19 highlight from his stunning career.
55:26 Feeling all
55:27 cool look.
55:31 Hey man, you're all set for tonight.
55:34 When the town red says so. But before
55:37 you step out here, bro, that pimples.
55:48 Well, no need for the hotspot technology
55:50 to see the people. That's very clear.
55:52 I'd like to wager that's very good, but
55:54 stolen from an advertising campaign that
55:57 we did here on this show.
56:03 You've done a look, you're going to
56:06 rule. Hey man, you're all set for
56:09 tonight. When the turn red says so. But
56:13 before you step out here, bro, that
56:15 pimples
56:26 Jesus.
56:31 I can't remember. A lot of effort went
56:33 into that, but you can't have it. No,
56:35 you can't. But how about you take the
56:36 Tigers to beat the Kangas in 246? What
56:38 do you reckon? I reckon we might need to
56:40 get Derek kicking out of your life. If
56:42 you like the look of that and you just
56:45 on your own now pile it all up together.
56:47 There it is. 1643. Jump onto the feed.
56:50 Follow uh mix multi via the sports bet
56:53 app. Uh and of course place your bet.
56:55 Good luck. The last shout's coming up
56:57 next. Imagine what you could be buying
56:59 instead. For free and confidential
57:00 support, call the number on the screen
57:02 or visit the website.
57:12 Uh it's been great fun to be part of it
57:13 again tonight. Of course, looking
57:14 forward to the weekend's footage
57:16 starting tomorrow night. You're going to
57:17 see so many of the jumpers being worn
57:19 for Sir Doug Nichols round. Uh all the
57:21 clubs have gone to work. They've got
57:22 their stories to tell each of them. And
57:25 uh if you go to the club websites, you
57:26 can find out more about them. They do
57:28 such a great job of uh getting people
57:30 involved with their footy clubs to
57:32 contribute to the jumpers being worn uh
57:35 of course during the uh this magnificent
57:37 round
57:38 and it's obvious, isn't it? The carton
57:40 the Carlton version is the best of a lot
57:42 of them, isn't it? Without
57:44 any I would have thought so. Uh so it's
57:47 a great round of footy. We're going to
57:48 continue honoring those who have given
57:50 us so that's the last we'll see of that
57:51 one. Look at that. This is this is his
57:54 signature move. They'll be driving
57:56 without anyone in the premiers cup. If
57:58 anyone If anyone lingerie if anyone at
58:02 the footy club expects this to be coming
58:04 back, no chance. Uh front bar next
58:07 weekend. Uh what about what about this
58:09 cosy picket, Bobby Hill, Winston Abraham
58:13 and Steven Michael all the show next
58:15 week. That is going to be ridiculous.
58:17 That's insane. That is absolutely nuts.
58:20 Uh thanks to Derek and Dale Kicker for
58:22 being on the show tonight. Thanks to
58:23 Lingy. It's been a blast. Thanks to
58:26 Thanks for watching. See you.
