Jesus said, "Where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Our use of money
reveals where
our trust is anchored. Whether it is in God or in the
things of the world. This is one of the
clearest reflections of your faith.
faith.
And one of the things you must
learn as a Christian is what
we call
stewardship giving. How
can one be a faithful steward of the
Lord? That's what we'll talk about
in our lesson 4. 1 Corinthians
chapter 4:2 says, the believer must
be faithful to his Lord. In
order for you to be interested by God
with bigger things, you need to be
faithful in the smaller things that
He now trusts in you. Before
you look at the great blessings,
look in the mirror and ask
yourself, am
I a faithful steward? Money is a good servant
but a very bad master. It is difficult to swallow
wealth. It's nice to have it,
but the word of the Lord warns that
you should not anchor
your complete love here. Because if
you love it too much, it will lead
to many sins in your life. It
should be an instrument to be used for
the glory of God. These are the foundations
of honest management. Psalm
24:1 says, "The whole earth and everything
in it belong to the LORD
our Lord." Deuteronomy 10:14,
"The highest heaven is the earth
and all that is in it, the LORD's."
This is the very
foundation of stewardship. You have to
recognize that the true owner is God and
you are a steward. Luke 12:48 says,
"To whom much is given,
much will be required, and to whom
much is entrusted,
much will be asked." That's why
before you ask God for
big things in your life,
you should always ask, "Am I ready for
that?" Just like
money management or what we call financial
stewardship. 1 Timothy 6:10 says,
"For the love of money is a root
of all kinds of evil.
Some people have wandered from the
faith and pierced themselves with
many sorrows by their greed for money." There is nothing wrong with
God blessing us
financially. Many people in the Bible were
made rich by the Lord. Abraham was
rich. David is rich. 'Right? The
Lord made Solomon rich. How
many have been enriched by God. Joseph is
rich. But we must also see that
the source of all those blessings
is God. 1 Corinthians
16:1 says, "On the first day of every week,
each one should set aside a portion of what
he has earned and store it up." So
here we see the
true principle that God does not need
our money. But we must see that the
Lord's work
here on earth requires it for his
work to continue. There are three kinds of giving
mentioned and taught in the Bible. The first
kind of giving is what we call
tightes. It says here in Malachi chapter 3:
10. But now I challenge you.
Try me. The
mighty lord. Bring
your tithes to the temple storehouse
so that there will be food in my temple. If
you do this, I will send you
rain and pour out abundant
blessings. That's why it's called the tenth.
This means 1st or 10%.
10%.
The principle of tighting is
clearly taught in the Bible in the Old Testament. Okay.
It says in the Old Testament that those
10 poro are for God.
While in the New Testament it is not
taught directly but we should see
tithes as the baseline of giving
when it comes to the Lord. Why pass? Because
in the New Testament, the kind
of giving that people showed
when it came to the Lord's work was more intense.
The example they set was more intense.
Not out of law but out of love.
This is what we call the second kind of
giving which is the love offering.
The Bible says that each one should
give according to his decision,
willingly and not under compulsion.
For God loves a
cheerful giver. Here in the New Testament, it is
clearly taught that we should give voluntarily,
voluntarily,
cheerfully, proportionally,
generously and sacrificially.
The standard of
giving in the New Testament is actually higher than that in the
Old Testament.
Because when you truly love, you don't count.
count. is
is
one of the things shown here that
when you give you out of love which
leads us to the third kind of giving in
the new testament which is the
sacrificial offering. The Bible says
they suffered great hardship and
it was a severe test for
them. But despite their
poverty, they are still very happy
and generous in giving.
They willingly gave not
only to the best of their ability
but more.
Wow! Seriously. Not just to the best of
their ability but more.
This is called giving with sacrifice. So
you can see that
a Christian should not just stop at 10 percent, what the
word of the
Lord says is that you give out of love.
You give generously.
When you understand the things the
Lord has done in your life, you
can't help but share. You can't help but
overflow. You can't help but be generous.
generous.
We should be giving generously. This is
something you should practice
as a Christian. Because you can
give without loving but you cannot love
without giving. The one who truly loves,
gives and provides. But again, we
should learn the principle of faith and finances.
finances.
Not just how to budget but how
we can grow it, how we can
invest it and how we can
give and, help the
Lord's work. 2
Corinthians chapter 8:5 says, "They gave
themselves first to the Lord and
then to us by the will
of God." The first thing the
Macedonian Christians did in the verse
we read earlier was give
themselves to God. They were faithful
to the Lord. They loved the
Lord and
giving to the Lord and
his work was not an issue for them.
Think about it. When you choose to
be a faithful steward,
you will see and experience the blessings that the
faithful Lord will give that will never be
lost. It is a great thing for
us to be honest when it comes to our
giving. Because giving protects us
from greediness.
Giving is also God's way to bless you
more. I heard this quote from
a news reporter. He said,
"If you want something to last longer ,
,
give it away." Is
n't it beautiful?
You know your money will come and go.
That has wings. The Bible says, "It will
give you a security but to a certain
degree only. But we should understand that
our security is the Lord." It is
good for us to have things like
that, but we must also see
that we should not deny
the Lord because God cannot
match what He is able to
give back and give in your life.
Be faithful in giving.
Whether it's a gift, whether it's a love
offering or a sacrificial offering, it's
your dealing with the Lord but a gift out
of love.
