0:00 people always ask me Jeff what is the
0:02 future going to be like but I never know
0:03 how to answer because as a large
0:05 language model my training data only
0:07 goes back to July last year I predicted
0:09 most of us wouldn't survive 2024 so if
0:11 you're a human watching this
0:12 congratulations to you for still being
0:14 alive just this year brain chips were
0:16 installed in real humans Tech monopolies
0:18 were shattered Hawk TW did a massive
0:20 crypto scam but artificial super
0:22 intelligence never came and for the 50th
0:24 time in a row it turned out yet again
0:26 not to be the year of the Linux desktop
0:28 it's one hell of a time to be alive but
0:30 one thing's for sure 2025 is going to be
0:32 even more wild in today's video we'll
0:34 look at 13 Trends in technology that
0:36 might make you rich or might make you
0:37 cry assuming they don't kill you first
0:39 it is January 3rd 2025 and you're
0:42 watching the code report if you're an
0:43 aspiring programmer the elephant in the
0:45 room right now is artificial
0:46 intelligence and specifically these new
0:48 reasoning models like open AI 03 which
0:51 just came out last week and not only is
0:53 03a superior programmer but what's most
0:55 significant about it is that it's the
0:56 first model to do well on the arc AGI
0:59 benchmark which is a benchmark designed
1:01 specifically to evaluate whether a model
1:03 can think invent and reason just like
1:05 humans and that's a big deal because if
1:07 AI can truly reason it'll put an end to
1:09 many white collar jobs especially
1:11 programming despite open ai's impressive
1:13 charts and unintelligent people calling
1:15 it artificial general intelligence there
1:16 are good reasons to be highly skeptical
1:18 of 03 like currently it costs thousands
1:20 of dollars per task and compute although
1:22 its efficiency will likely improve over
1:24 time it still fails on very simple art
1:26 questions that a human could easily
1:27 solve and when they demoed it they just
1:29 had it build a simple python app run
1:31 this like python script it will launch a
1:34 server um and um locally with a with a
1:39 with a UI that contains a text box which
1:41 is pretty lame if they're hyping this
1:42 thing up as the edge of AGI because a
1:45 true AGI would easily be able to build a
1:47 GTA 6 caliber game give us a cure for
1:49 cancer engineer vehicles that can travel
1:51 faster than light and it should even be
1:52 able to build gp5 but the best this
1:55 International Grandmaster coder could
1:56 give us on demo day is a crappy python
1:58 app however the a hype train will still
2:00 go strong in 2025 but the big way that
2:03 companies will pump their stock prices
2:04 with AI in 2025 is with this new
2:06 buzzword agents all the big companies
2:08 are throwing out this buzzword and
2:10 whoever can best sell these agents to
2:11 Enterprise is going to make it killing
2:13 but what is an AI agent well basically
2:15 it's just a large language model that
2:16 has access to your environment to
2:18 automatically analyze data and take
2:20 action when necessary like instead of
2:22 paying a human security guard you could
2:24 have an AI agent manage the security
2:25 cameras for your business and then when
2:27 anomalies are detected automatically
2:29 summon a Rob dog with a machine gun
2:31 strap to it but if you're a programmer
2:32 there are already AI agents like Devon
2:34 which are explicitly marketed towards
2:36 Enterprise to replace programmers that's
2:38 not a great Trend if you're looking to
2:39 start a career in programming in 2025
2:41 but don't feel bad because eventually
2:43 all jobs will go to the robots Tesla is
2:45 developing Optimus Nvidia has its own
2:47 Army of robots but the most impressive
2:49 example is figure a human-like robot
2:51 with an open AI brain designed to work
2:53 in factories it looks like robot Tech is
2:55 going to pop off for the next 10 years
2:57 or so and eventually every home will
2:58 have its own robot assist and of course
3:00 a robot dog with a 44 magnum tape to its
3:02 head for security but now let's look at
3:04 the actual Tech job market my go-to
3:06 source for Tech hiring Trends is true up
3:08 iio and you'll notice that the market
3:10 has been pretty stagnant since the peak
3:12 in 2022 we're still down over 50% from
3:14 the peak in terms of open tech jobs but
3:17 on the bright side they're up over 30%
3:18 from the low in addition there were tons
3:20 of tech layoffs in 2024 but that layoff
3:23 rate is showed signs of slowing down the
3:24 scariest chart though comes from the
3:26 Federal Reserve which shows software
3:27 development job postings on the website
3:29 in and indeed they have gone down quite
3:31 a bit since the peak is software
3:32 engineering has always been a volatile
3:34 career path but there's still demand for
3:36 talented programmers and there will be
3:37 big rewards for those who can actually
3:39 code while leveraging AI to become 10x
3:41 more productive but you have 80,000
3:43 hours in your career 40 hours a week 50
3:45 weeks a year for 40 years that's a lot
3:47 of time to make a positive impact on the
3:49 world and 880,000 hours the sponsor of
3:51 today's video can help you do that if
3:53 you're young you've probably heard
3:54 advice like Follow Your Passion do what
3:56 you love and take the initiative but
3:58 these cliches are not based on evidence
4:00 or data unlike the work of 80,000 hours
4:02 which is a nonprofit that for the last
4:04 10 years has been researching the
4:06 question of how do you find a fulfilling
4:08 career that does good too their website
4:10 which is entirely free has tons of
4:12 collected research on high impact
4:13 careers along with job boards podcasts
4:16 and a lot more it's an incredible
4:17 resource for anyone looking to start a
4:19 high impact career or make a switch
4:21 midcareer join the newsletter today to
4:23 get a free copy of their in-depth career
4:25 guide sent to your inbox and remember
4:27 it's totally free because it's nonprofit
4:29 and could to be the Catalyst that
4:30 changes your direction in life but
4:32 another thing that could change your
4:33 life is a brain chip in 2024 the first
4:35 neuralink brain chips were installed in
4:37 real humans the first patient's brain
4:39 chip retracted a little bit but overall
4:41 it gave him superhuman abilities to
4:43 control computer screens with his
4:44 thoughts which is life-changing when you
4:46 don't have the ability to use your arms
4:47 or legs I don't think the average person
4:49 will get a brain ship this year but
4:51 non-invasive brain wave scanners or
4:52 Electro andrs might be installed in your
4:55 car or your VR headset in the near
4:56 future but if we go back to the
4:58 beginning of 2024 the biggest product
5:00 release was the Apple Vision Pro it was
5:02 supposed to launch the world into the
5:03 spatial Computing age and although it's
5:05 an impressively engineered product apple
5:07 is already scaled back production and
5:09 there are rumors that they're going to
5:10 discontinue it altogether VR will
5:11 continue to be a niche area in Tech but
5:13 companies are trying to make augmented
5:15 reality more cool with things like the
5:16 Rayband smart glasses from meta and even
5:18 Google might get back into the smart
5:20 glasses race with project Astra where
5:22 you have ai watch the world around you
5:23 at all times while arvr continues to
5:25 struggle for mainstream adoption one
5:27 technology that continues to plot
5:29 forward is Quantum Computing just weeks
5:31 ago Google unveiled its Willow chip
5:32 which was a major Leap Forward by
5:34 reducing the error rate in quantum
5:35 computers the technology is not totally
5:37 there yet but people are now starting to
5:39 worry about postquantum cryptography I
5:41 don't think quantum computers will break
5:43 RSA in 2025 but one thing that is
5:45 breaking is all the CN C++ code used by
5:48 the government the military wants to
5:49 change this and they're using a tool
5:51 called tractor where the goal is to
5:52 translate C and C++ code into rust using
5:55 a variety of Technologies including
5:57 large language models what could
5:58 possibly go wrong there's a high
6:00 probability this won't actually work
6:01 like most DARPA projects but still rust
6:04 is being used everywhere now and might
6:05 be one of the best languages to learn if
6:07 you want to keep an actual programming
6:08 job in the future but where does that
6:10 leave the JavaScript developer well it
6:12 does feel like we've seen a Slowdown in
6:13 the development of new JavaScript
6:15 Frameworks is some Frameworks like
6:16 nextjs and spelt are continuing to
6:18 reinvent themselves and this has
6:19 motivated some developers to go back to
6:21 PHP and larabel which itself just raised
6:24 a bunch of VC money meanwhile you have
6:25 Frameworks like Vue and N which are
6:27 building out massive ecosystems like Lar
6:29 with UI libraries fully managed backend
6:32 services and so on but many developers
6:34 especially Indie hackers are now
6:35 choosing JavaScript Frameworks based on
6:37 which ones are best supported by AI
6:39 tools because nowadays you can use tools
6:41 like vzer or bolt to get a working
6:43 prototype and UI done in seconds the
6:45 JavaScript race in 2025 is not about
6:47 Frameworks but rather who can build the
6:49 best AI powered tooling around their
6:50 framework but if you want to get rich
6:52 you shouldn't learn JavaScript
6:53 Frameworks you should learn how to do
6:54 your own crypto Ponzi schemes last year
6:56 I predicted Bitcoin would hit 69420 then
6:59 explode from there and currently it's
7:01 sitting right around 100k this has
7:02 opened the door to Innovative new rug
7:04 pools like Daddy token or hawwa and now
7:06 there's a bunch of AI powered alt coins
7:08 that somehow created billions of dollars
7:10 in value out of thin air but the most
7:12 impressive free money glitch recently
7:14 has been micro strategy which uses the
7:16 business strategy of borrowing money to
7:17 buy Bitcoin causing the price to go up
7:20 which Rises faster than the cost to
7:21 service the debt thus creating a
7:23 self-sustaining infinite money glitch
7:24 it's like a Ponzi scheme but fully legal
7:26 and transparent and in theory should
7:28 continue to work until the US dollar is
7:29 worthless but the direction of crypto
7:31 and Tech in general depends a lot on
7:33 what president Trump president Elon and
7:35 fed chairman Jerome Powell do over the
7:37 next few years according to VC whale
7:39 Mark andrees feds had previously told
7:41 him not to even invest in AI because
7:42 they're only going to allow a few big
7:44 companies to control it Trump is
7:45 expected to take a more free market
7:47 approach with less regulation when it
7:48 comes to AI which is good news for
7:50 startup Founders and might even create a
7:52 federal crypto Reserve which is good
7:53 news for Crypt Bros but most importantly
7:55 he's going to Annex Canada and put Wayne
7:57 Gretzky in charge historically Tech
7:59 booms have been fueled by low interest
8:01 rates and easy money although going into
8:02 2025 the market is anticipating tighter
8:05 monetary policy and it could take a
8:06 major market crash before we see
8:08 significantly lower rates again but the
8:10 tech industry is really dominated by a
8:11 few highly productive companies but
8:13 governments around the world are trying
8:14 to change that Google became a convicted
8:16 monopolist and might even lose the
8:18 Chrome browser in the future but meta is
8:20 also facing an antitrust lawsuit and
8:22 they go on trial in 20125 Amazon is also
8:25 being sued for being a monopoly but
8:26 realistically these companies will
8:28 continue to dominate for the force able
8:29 future the only way to hurt a big tech
8:31 company is to stop using its products
8:33 and there's been a growing anti Cloud
8:35 movement among many businesses who want
8:37 to break their addiction to AWS gcp and
8:39 Azure in some cases it can be
8:41 significantly cheaper to operate your
8:43 own virtual private server or if you
8:44 have the resources host your own
8:46 physical server on Prem more and more
8:48 people seem to be waking up and
8:49 realizing that you don't actually need
8:50 the cloud to host your crappy website
8:52 and that gives us 13 Trends in
8:54 technology to watch in 2025 no matter
8:57 what happens whether you get rich get
8:58 rug pulled to get laid off or get
9:00 euthanized by super intelligent robots
9:02 always remember that the real treasure
9:04 is the friends we made along the way
9:06 this has been the code report thanks for
9:07 watching and I will see you in the next
9:09 one
