in this history illustrated video i'm
going to cover
two words import and export the reason
why i'm covering two of them and this is
because they're directly related to one
another in fact they're opposites and if
you ever hear the word import or export
i want you to first and foremost think
of this word here
trade it has everything to do with
trading people have to get things they
don't need from other places that do
have them and if i
import something i want you to focus on
this because i have had a student or two
in class say that import sounds a lot
like in
and export let's focus on that over here
sounds a little bit like exit
so
if i import something i'm bringing
something in and if i export something i
am sending something out or it's exiting
all right so if you can keep that in
mind for a minute i'm going to give you
a little bit of an example here so let's
turn those off and let's look at our
country here here's the united states
the united states often has to
import things so it would have to
bring things in import
or it also exports things it has to send
things out so let's look at something
that the united states sends a lot of
out um we are a very big producer of
food so we make a lot of it we make way
more than we can ever really eat so we
send it out we export it so we export
food in the united states as one of our
biggest exports but we also have to
import many things and many students
will often point out that everything
they see says made in china so let's
look at china for example
china over here would trade with the
united states they would export things
they send things out
one of the things they are very well
known for is
manufacturing in general they make
things they have a lot of factories and
if they export something they would send
it out that means we're bringing it in
that means we import
their exports so
they are directly related i want you to
remember the import
sounds like in export has eggs on it
like the word exit and they're directly
related and they have everything to do
with trade
