just getting started with the first

bouts of the finals here from the juniors

and what an entrance this is dean this

has been a fantastic tournament so far

and the finals only seem to be popping

all the excitement we've seen so far the

question on everybody's lips is who will

win junior gold in abu dhabi the 18 to

20 year olds will walk to the cage in

this lovely platform the pyrotechnics is

beautiful the crowd is ready sebastian i

can't wait oh absolutely the atmosphere

has been electric and i expect that it

will only be top in the two coming days

of finals after all this is what matters

this is for all the marbles this is for

the gold

and here we have a young russian neutral athlete

the finals they consistently do

year and it is just a true pleasure to

to the ongoing worldwide situation but

top athletes

and this should definitely be a good one

could you have imagined being a couple

before the imaps amateurs getting this

kind of treatment

a largely to thank the abu dhabi sports

council on the host nation of abu dhabi

making sure they put out all the stops

versus kazakhstan we've seen

kazakhstan's rise in the imf tournament

so far their wrestling's got

exceptionally good and their boxing is

excellent but they're very very tough

this should be a good fight

spectacular and it's

just a fantastic opportunity for these

young athletes to build experience that

they never would have had before

this is what can capture two champions

and collecting a gold medal is not just

something for bragging rights i mean

this has been one of the toughest

tournaments in sports

several days of tough competition

these young athletes making work their

way through the brackets the

quarterfinals semi-finals and now here

some of these exchanges i knew that

something was going to happen but i

don't think any of us expected that such

an early knock yeah like you said dean

usually you don't see that kind of

knockout power in the lighter weight

classes but i guess valeria tepesheva is

here to change that as she captures a

and i think it can't have been much more

and gentlemen the referee sheriff who

cost up the action at one minute and

five seconds of round number one

a minute and five seconds with all that ballerina

just a little over a minute was all that

valeria shiva needed take a look at the

replay here i think it was potentially

perfectly as mixed martial arts athletes

absolutely there is no replacement for

experience and what we are getting here

is just a

plenty of challenges to get here so yeah

like you said they may should talk it up

they should be proud just getting here

seen so many crazy fights just in this

tournament alone with three derek hickey

difficult one to score given that they

somewhat easier to score i'd say perhaps

on account of shotgun bay gaining that

top position getting the takedowns

world would you say dean yeah he

dominated from the takedown perspective

and what i like he close the distance a

little bit more and use circular motion

as we see here from the replay this is

some of the ground and pound i like the

way he fired the hammer fist straight

down the side people traditionally

expect punches to come in a certain

angle but those hammer fists can go

straight through the guard and do damage

and just another testament to the ever

evolving mma game

the kazakhstani fans well the mexican

fans have truly been something else as

well all week they have brought an

energy about them that has been nothing

short of fantastic

excellent wrestling and they bring the

combative spirit to the cage and it's

feel like we've seen that all week as well

and once again i mean the support on

the mexico bringing a lot of new faces a

huge squad of 19 athletes as well always

bring character in a heart and really

spiced up our tournaments with his songs

and chants

and there is something beside again the

heart because some of these mexican

athletes had some

horrible just straight up horrible

travel issues to get here some were

traveling for about 22 hours plus and

despite that they never lost their

morale they kept spirits up the whole

time singing dancing

and i mean there's evidence of that in

the building here today

of course yesterday we saw gomez get a

split decision over kazakhstan's ayalum

oolong day four of competition

where she again just did not want to

back down for some of those striking

striking exchanges

go miss with a beautiful jab

she slips her head off with the jab

which is nice she's going to be careful

about leaning to the right side there

for fear of that lead switch kick

euler with a nice right hand very crisp

boxing down the pipe great footwork as

well she moves immediately out of range

oh that was a nice left hand collected

kind of dropping her guard a little bit

when she throws those leg kicks she's

coming straight forward as well she

doesn't move off the center line not too

much left there's a nice bit of footwork

that's what she's got to do after she

going in for the finish here

interesting to see her back off she

definitely had gomez rocked

wilma seems to be doing well now though

um perhaps just a really good poke face

and recover she's going to use the jab

to use the left hook she'll move from

side to side just give yourself a little

bit more time that's high fighter iq and

some mind games there from the russian

neutral athlete sticking her tongue out

at her opponent

perhaps trying to

entice some of these striking changes

again that was a hard

body kick for that landed for

there's that spinning back because she's

doing that

because her opponent and gomez is

leaning to the right side she isn't

throwing the switch kick she's throwing

the spin in backwards which is equally beautiful

beautiful

that was a nice right hand connected

there too for yulia gomez wearing some

damage on the face now a little bit of

blood seeping from the nose largely due

julia was a nice crisp box in here you

can see the hands down from gomez she's

gotta address that if she wants to stay

away from the spinning backfist

well that was an exciting first round

some fun striking exchanges there [Applause]

imagine that

hard punches and kicks where if you

it definitely helps but you know what

when you're in there it's kind of like

when you're you kind of have to block

everything out and listen to your

coaches and other skill set and mix

martial arts between the rounds

sometimes you can hear the crowd

you're chanting your name and whatnot

and it can definitely help scoot the

home court advantage if you're in your

hometown but to have fans here they can

boost your morale for certain and give

you kind of a little bit of a more

motivation to pull the trigger

and there really has been an explosion

of popularity for mma in mexico over the

past couple years

of course the likes of former ufc

champion brandon moreno helped boost his popularity

some heavy hands there from the russian julia

julia

and ulla has done a great job of

building the narrative she's building

the story of mixed martial arts which is

striking and grappling now she's selling

the grappling oh and i switched by gomez

but she's selling the level change she's

selling the graph and what she's trying

to do is make gomez think about what's

coming next and if gomez is thinking

she's not going to be able to play a

game of catch-up it's going to set up

the striking for ulya

and it looked like gomez was trying to

go for a trip there but not successful

with it oh looks like there's an injury

potentially to the

and it's all over i'd love to see the

replay maybe a body shot

oh my goodness i didn't even really see

what happened oh she's saying it's a low blow

that's a smart play look like she weighs

the fight off which is usually final but

this is such an interesting and a great

matchup and it's for the finals it's for

the silver and the gold it has to be

finished definitively

absolutely we do not want any

uncertainty when gold hangs in the balance

lulia was starting to build the story of

changing levels there's the right hand

but that's what she wants to disguise

she wants a disguise to strike him she

wants to make gomez think about

everything out of the box so she's

are a good way as well

but also combinations always finishing

needs to do pull the trigger with nice

combinations and throw on the

separations as well and the dead space

between the two throw a leg kick

gives your opponent an opportunity to

recover whether that's from a hard shot

or cardiovascular system wise

has done a great job of sticking to the
