I came out of an abusive marriage. I had
gotten married really, really young. We
had three kids together. Through my
divorce process, I saw a lot that was
missing within the system. And I
thought, I think I can do this better.
My only problem is I had three kids
under the age of six and all I had was a
high school diploma. So, what are you
going to do? I decided at that point,
I'm going to go back to school and I'm
going to become an attorney and I'm
going to change how divorce is done. I'm
Heather Okconor. I own Okconor Finley
Law. We have offices throughout
Massachusetts. I became a Cleo customer
in 2017. What this firm fights for is
the underdog. It's the person who has
been being taken advantage of, who
doesn't have a voice and really needs
somebody to stand up for them. And with
lawyers, sometimes there's a lack of
empathy and understanding.
For us, client service is everything. We
have our empowerment coach who works
with everybody to help them start
building their postlitigation life
before they've even gotten there. And
so, we don't charge anything for it
because the way that I see it, a legal
result only gives you a piece of paper.
The coaching is what changes your life.
When a client has gone through our
empowerment coaching program, one of the
things that is so incredible to watch is
actually seeing them after and how they
have actually empowered themselves where
they now have a voice. And I think it's
been such a huge crucial part of our
success and our growth because we're
always looking at if I were as a client,
what would I want? If I were in those
shoes, how would I want to be treated?
Before I decided to become an attorney,
I had no money. And there were times
that I was literally eating the crust
from my children's peanut butter and
jelly sandwiches. And to be able to know
that I came from that of times having to
use food stamps to where we are now
where our payroll is over a million
dollars a year. That is something to me
that if I can do this, anybody can do this.
