0:04 hi welcome back our next session is all
0:07 about brainstorming brainstorming is one
0:09 of the most fundamental tool that we use
0:12 inside Lean Six Sigma set of tools and
0:15 techniques brainstorming is a technique
0:18 used to generate ideas from a group of
0:20 individuals in any stage of any
0:22 problem-solving activity it is a means
0:25 of getting a large number of ideas from
0:28 a group of people in a short time the
0:30 more alternative choices we have the
0:34 better our decision is now this tool is
0:37 the fundamental and basic tool that we
0:39 will use in our root cause analysis
0:43 there are two known methods when we do
0:46 brainstorming first the structured and
0:48 the second one the unstructured let's go
0:51 first with the structured structured
0:54 brainstorming is wherein participants go
0:57 in turns one idea per turn until all
1:01 ideas are exhausted meaning this is a
1:04 method wherein you can get all of the
1:07 ideas from all the participants who are
1:09 attending the session when is the best
1:11 time to use the structured approach it
1:15 is best used when you have a new team
1:18 form because you don't know yet the
1:21 dynamics of the team and also to hedge
1:23 against the risk of highly active
1:26 participants that might dominate the
1:29 brainstorming session and structured
1:31 approach is the second method of
1:34 brainstorming this is where participants
1:37 will give their idea by raising their
1:40 hands and in no specific turn of order
1:43 so this is more of a free way of
1:45 brainstorming method and this is used
1:48 more often than the structured approach
1:50 because this is more of a freewheeling
1:52 approach now when is the best time to
1:54 use the unstructured method of
1:57 brainstorming this is suggested to be
1:59 used when you have the team dynamics
2:01 already so these are the two
2:03 brainstorming methods that are available
2:06 for our consumption most of the time
2:08 what we suggest is that to use the
2:10 structured approach so that we can get
2:12 all of the ideas coming from all the members
2:13 members
2:16 now here are some rules when we are
2:20 doing brainstorming number one give
2:22 participants a time to think about the
2:24 topic to be discussed don't just say
2:25 that it's your turn
2:28 give them the ample time to think about
2:31 the topic of the session next nokey
2:33 their face and notepad ideas
2:36 we don't entertain by us in
2:39 brainstorming activities so please
2:42 refrain from using killer faces like no
2:44 that will not work or no it's not a good idea
2:45 idea
2:48 and don't use pet phrases like that's a
2:49 good idea
2:51 I think that will work because it will
2:53 kill the creativity inside the
2:56 brainstorming session number three crazy
2:59 ideas are welcome because any ideas are
3:02 welcome so crazy ideas are also welcome
3:05 there are some instances the twist ideas
3:09 saved the day for build up on ideas
3:11 previously Reese are you having hard
3:15 time in thinking of your own idea why
3:17 not check on others idea and then
3:20 improve it or add something new in this
3:23 way you can create a new idea number
3:26 five the more ideas the better during
3:28 the brainstorming session first what we
3:31 want to get is the number of ideas
3:34 coming in quality will come after we
3:36 have to make the ideas visual when
3:38 you're doing a typical brainstorming
3:41 activity you have to prepare post-it
3:44 notes and markers so that anyone who has
3:46 an idea can simply write their ideas on
3:49 the proceeds and post it to the wall and
3:52 later on this will be summarized and
3:54 combined if necessary
3:56 so these are the rules when you're doing
3:59 a brainstorming activity moving forward
4:01 you will use this concept and this
4:03 mindset as we go along to the next
4:06 phases of the analyze phase which talks
