0:00 so you've decided to film yourself using
0:01 a smartphone which is a great choice
0:03 with the rise of social media filming
0:05 yourself with a smartphone has become
0:07 easier and it's also a popular way to
0:09 share content and connect with others
0:11 plus with high quality cameras on most
0:13 smartphones you don't need expensive
0:15 equipment to create professionall
0:17 looking videos in fact this talking head
0:19 video right now is shot on my iPhone and
0:22 if you're new to filming yourself it may
0:24 seem like a daunting task but don't
0:27 worry with the easy steps I'm about to
0:29 show you you'll be able to create
0:30 amazing content in no time so let's Dive
0:33 Right In so step number one is to plan
0:35 your content ahead the saying if you
0:37 fail to plan you plan to fail holds true
0:40 when planning your content before you
0:41 start filming ensure you have a clear
0:44 idea of what you want to achieve with
0:46 your video ask yourself what is the
0:48 purpose of my video who is my target
0:51 audience and what kind of message do I
0:53 want to convey by answering these
0:55 questions you will have a clear
0:57 Direction and structure for your video
1:00 making the filming process more
1:02 efficient as an example the purpose of
1:04 this video is to show you guys how to
1:06 film yourself on a smartphone and my
1:08 target audience is aspiring mobile video
1:11 creators and the message I want to
1:13 convey is that anyone can start making
1:15 high quality videos using the camera
1:17 they carry in their pocket so once you
1:19 have your purpose your audience and the
1:21 message in mind start writing your
1:23 script or use bullet points to guide you
1:26 through the video this way you don't
1:27 miss any important points or drift off
1:30 topic if you're looking for a
1:31 teleprompter to use with your phone I
1:33 will leave links in the video
1:35 description below to my top
1:36 recommendations step number two is to
1:38 find a good location the ideal spot
1:41 would be a well-lit quiet environment
1:44 now I decided to film this video at home
1:47 with natural light and artificial light
1:49 now if you do decide to film outside
1:51 it's important to avoid a background
1:53 noise such as traffic rivers or busy
1:56 streets now when filming at home like
1:58 I'm doing right now you can get the best
2:00 quality video with plenty of natural
2:03 light so choose a spot near a window if
2:06 possible ideally you want to position
2:08 yourself so that the sunlight hits your
2:10 face from the front or the side not from
2:13 behind so avoid having that bright light
2:16 source behind you otherwise you will
2:18 have lots of Shadow now I have a mixture
2:21 of sunlight with artificial light
2:23 because it is cloudy outside so I'm
2:26 using the artificial light just to
2:28 brighten myself up step number three is
2:30 to set up your equipment after choosing
2:32 your filming location it's time to set
2:34 up the equipment by the way I will leave
2:36 links to all products mentioned in the
2:38 video description below now my setup
2:40 includes the iPhone 15 Pro Max a tripod
2:43 phone clamp flip screen mirror wireless
2:46 mic artificial light and optional wide
2:48 angle lens now investing in quality
2:50 tools like these can significantly
2:52 improve the quality of your video and
2:54 make the filming process a lot easier
2:57 and you'll see why as we move forward
2:59 now don't stress if you don't have all
3:01 the gear amazing videos are still
3:03 possible with what you have now I just
3:05 find that these tools are useful for my
3:07 mobile content creation and if you're
3:10 serious about regularly making quality
3:13 videos investing in good equipment is
3:16 worthwhile now when setting up my
3:18 equipment I first mount my phone clamp
3:20 to the tripod and then secure my phone
3:23 onto the clamp Now using a tripod like
3:25 the one I'm using right now from small
3:27 rake I can easily achieve stable shots
3:29 and position the camera however I want
3:32 to and when positioning the camera I
3:34 place it away from the background to
3:37 have depth in my shot and enhance the
3:40 background blur and after that choosing
3:42 the video orientation is important based
3:44 on the platform to which you upload the
3:46 video to so it's horizontal if you
3:48 upload it to YouTube and vertical if
3:50 it's for Instagram and Tik Tok now to
3:52 frame yourself more easily you can use
3:54 the selfie camera however the rear
3:57 camera is recommended for the highest
3:59 quality now since I prefer to have the
4:01 highest quality and have time to set up
4:03 everything I choose to film myself with
4:05 the rear camera now since I can't see
4:08 myself really a great tool to have is
4:10 the flip screen mirror by ncy rig I've
4:13 mounted It On Top by sliding it into the
4:15 C Mount and adjusting the mirror to see
4:18 my phone screen now using a flip screen
4:20 mirror I can easily self-monitor and
4:23 frame myself without constantly walking
4:25 back and forth to check the shot now
4:27 this is optional but sometimes
4:29 especially for vlogging I like to use
4:31 the ultra wide angle lens on top of my
4:33 main lens to just fit in more in the
4:36 frame and also I like how the
4:38 perspective looks like right now I'm
4:40 just using the standard lens but if you
4:42 want to fit more in the frame this could
4:44 be a great option and what's cool is
4:46 that I can clip the wide angle lens onto
4:48 the main lens and you'll see I can now
4:50 fit in more in the frame now I could use
4:52 the ultra wide angle lens on my iPhone
4:54 15 Pro Max but for optimal quality
4:57 clipping a high quality wideangle lens
4:59 to the main lens ensures I get the best
5:02 image quality step number four is
5:04 framing yourself when framing yourself
5:05 properly it's best to use the rule of
5:07 thirds which divides the image into nine
5:10 equal parts to enable it head over to
5:13 your camera settings and turn on grids
5:15 on Android this might be different after
5:17 that position yourself in the center
5:19 with your eyes on the upper horizon line
5:22 for a balanced shot also ensure that the
5:25 camera is leveled and clear of any
5:27 distractions from the background step
5:30 number five is using the right camera
5:32 settings now that the framing is right
5:34 let's dial in the camera settings I
5:36 always choose the highest video quality
5:38 available on my smartphone so for the
5:41 iPhone 15 Pro Max that would be 4K if
5:43 your phone doesn't support 4K 1080p
5:46 works well and is suitable for social
5:48 media as for the frame rate I set it to
5:51 25 or 24 frames per second depending on
5:54 where you live and this great for normal
5:56 speed where you need to talk to the
5:58 camera and not slow down down the video
6:00 also ensure your phone is fully charged
6:02 and has enough storage for recording the
6:05 last thing you want is your phone to run
6:07 out of battery or storage during filming
6:09 now what is also important to check
6:10 which is often overlooked is cleaning
6:12 the camera lens a dirty lens can also
6:15 result in a blurry and distorted video
6:17 so make sure to wipe it with a clean
6:19 cloth before you start recording step
6:21 number six is to set up your microphone
6:24 audio quality is just as crucial as the
6:26 video quality if not more bad audio can
6:29 make viewers leave so investing in a
6:32 good microphone is worth it while the
6:34 built-in phone mics do an okay job an
6:36 external mic can significantly improve
6:39 the sound quality and there are various
6:41 types like lapel and shotgun mics but I
6:44 prefer a wireless mic as it allows me to
6:46 move freely while recording without any
6:49 wires getting in the way now I use the
6:51 DJI mic 2 it's super simple to use I can
6:54 just plug the receiver into my phone
6:56 clip on the mic and I'm ready to go now
6:59 I've also attached a lavalier mic to the
7:01 transmitter this also allows the
7:03 transmitter to be out of sight now
7:05 remember always do an audio test to
7:07 ensure everything works correctly before
7:09 recording now if you don't have any
7:11 external mic and decide to use the
7:13 built-in microphone be sure to be close
7:16 to the camera for the best audio quality
7:18 step number seven is to lock your
7:20 exposure and white balance locking the
7:23 exposure and wi balance is important to
7:25 keep a consistent look in your video now
7:27 inside the camera settings I I ensure
7:30 that wide balance lock is enabled to
7:32 avoid color shifts while recording after
7:35 that inside the default camera app I
7:37 lock the exposure by tap holding on my
7:40 face until AE and AF lock appears this
7:43 means your auto exposure and autofocus
7:45 are now locked now unfortunately you
7:47 can't separate the two to do so you will
7:49 need to use a Pro app like the
7:52 Blackmagic camera app now by simply
7:53 locking your exposure and wi balance you
7:55 are on the right track to getting a more
7:58 professional look for your videos number
8:00 eight is to switch to airplane mode this
8:02 step is often overlooked but is really
8:05 important switching to airplane mode
8:07 will disable incoming calls notification
8:09 while you're recording there's nothing
8:11 worse than getting a phone call from
8:13 your mom or notifications from your
8:15 ex-girlfriend which can ruin the entire
8:18 take step number nine is to record a
8:20 test video before you start your actual
8:22 recording doing a test video is always a
8:25 good idea this will give you the
8:26 opportunity to see how everything looks
8:28 and sounds on camera and make any
8:30 necessary adjustments it's also a good
8:32 way to check for any potential issues or
8:34 distractions in the background last step
8:37 number 10 is to start recording your
8:39 video now once you're satisfied with the
8:41 test video you can start recording your
8:44 actual content when talking to the
8:45 camera be sure to look at the lens and
8:48 not anywhere else this will create a
8:50 more engaging and direct connection with
8:52 your audience speak clearly and
8:54 confidently and try to stay natural and
8:57 relaxed now don't worry about being
8:59 perfect as some imperfections can add
9:01 authenticity to your video if you feel
9:03 uncomfortable talking to a camera try
9:06 imagining your having a conversation
9:08 with a friend remember that you can
9:10 always cut out the mistakes in the edit
9:12 now as a bonus tip after recording your
9:14 a-roll which is the main Talking part
9:16 add some buau to your footage these are
9:18 extra shots that visually enhance your
9:20 video like close-up shots of objects or
9:23 action shots of demonstrations Boll adds
9:26 a variety and makes your video more
9:28 engaging you you can see that I always
9:30 add b rolls in this video to keep you
9:33 visually engaged now be sure to grab my
