0:18 um let me introduce myself a little that
0:21 I am Ika kurana I am a therapist and a
0:23 psychologist uh which means I help
0:26 people with their thoughts and emotions
0:28 and apart from this I am also a
0:30 published researcher uh I work in
0:32 different hospitals I take one-on-one
0:36 sessions and um you can also catch me up
0:38 on the TV show called
0:41 un and um on the top of that I make
0:44 content on Instagram regarding mental
0:47 health uh because I want to reach out to
0:51 as many people as I can because um uh
0:53 when I was in my teens I had my own
0:56 mental health issues so um let me tell
0:59 you something that uh yesterday when I
1:01 was getting getting ready I was
1:03 organizing my clothes packing my bags
1:05 and then I realized that I checked my
1:08 phone 8 to nine times in between and I
1:11 think it's not just me because as per
1:13 Times of India report the study
1:15 conducted by an IM am aabad Professor
1:17 states that on average users spent
1:21 around 150 194 minutes on social media
1:25 44 minutes on OT and 46 minutes on online
1:26 online
1:30 gaming constant screen but
1:33 we humans are very curious creature we
1:35 always want to know more about what we
1:37 see hear or feel let's take an example
1:48 imagine so what is the most human thing
1:51 we do is we get curious we want to know
1:53 more about them compare with them or
1:55 just want to be friends with them
1:58 because we see them Daily Now imagine
2:01 having thousands and thousands of pares
2:03 is like watching paint dry it's not
2:07 worth your time but but our smartphones
2:09 are always with us ready to capture and
2:11 share every movement without even
2:14 realizing it because I'm constant social
2:19 media say validation seek but in filters
2:22 deep you know how quickly we change our
2:24 perception one moment we feel confident
2:26 and content but with a quick scroll
2:29 through social media boom those feelings
2:33 can and vanish so um let me tell you one
2:35 more thing that uh when I was in my
2:39 college I had a breakup and u i remember
2:41 I was scrolling through my ex's new
2:43 girlfriend profile you know stalking
2:46 skills so her hair looked perfect while
2:49 mine was messy her skin seemed Flawless
2:52 while mine had some imperfection and the
2:55 most important thing that her fancy bag
2:57 was so different from my old backpack
3:00 and what really hurt was seeing their
3:02 happy photos together from vacation and
3:05 Diwali and I thought why I couldn't be
3:07 like them they looked so perfect
3:10 together U
3:12 but because of the constant comparison
3:16 and stress uh I had some physical issues
3:19 as well like
3:39 something little bit of R&D and then a
3:41 mutual friend told me that all Glitters
3:45 are not gold so do you think that the
3:47 old ETA and you are in the same
3:51 boat of course maybe but a mutual friend
3:53 told me that their relationship was not
4:23 realize and after that all of the all of
4:25 these things then I realize ke um even
4:27 today in my therapy session that
4:29 influencers are struggling with their
4:32 real life challenges behind their online
4:36 Persona so um after um the My breakup
4:40 happened I joined dating app and wah I
4:42 have experienced Paradox of choice
4:44 firsthand it's like every Swip brought
4:47 me closer to the ideal choice and with
4:50 with the lots of apprehension anxieties
4:51 it's like when you are looking for a
4:54 blue shirt online but because of the social
4:55 social
4:57 media because of the artificial
5:01 intelligence psychology crack
5:03 option you add one to your card and then
5:06 you see next and then next and then next
5:09 and you feel overwhelmed and end up with
5:14 none because uh there's no wonder that
5:17 loneliness according to W in 2023
5:19 loneliness has been declared the next
5:23 Global Health thread because we want to
5:25 connect with many that we end up
5:26 disconnecting with
5:32 everyone uh so do you think uh uh social
5:36 media p yeah uh whenever we feel lonely
5:39 whenever we feel lonely or maybe um in a
5:42 group of many people we end up uh
5:44 scrolling through our social media of
5:51 friend so we end up start scrolling
5:54 through our friendship or we feel only
5:56 because we already have a best friend
5:59 you decide but is social media doing
6:01 yeah for AI technology doing all wrong
6:03 to us let's understand so according to
6:08 the study by an inhance um latest study
6:11 man states that around 150 million
6:15 people are in need of mental health 30
6:18 million because there are not enough
6:20 number of mental health
6:26 professionals L 0.75 psychiat
6:30 available the shortage is serious
6:34 and and then AI comes into the picture
6:37 because awareness there are so many
6:38 people who still hesitate to seek
6:40 professional help because of the fear of
6:43 discrimination and judgment yeah there
6:46 are so many people umco fast
6:50 help they are not able to afford it but
6:53 um we have seen that AI chat boards has
6:56 been used Snapchat has been used for
6:58 mental health it's like they your
7:00 digital friend uh best friends so
7:02 whenever you need help or you need or
7:04 you want to share something they are
7:07 always available for you um and not just
7:15 well how you use your phone what you see
7:18 what you post what you
7:20 write that if someone is struggling with
7:22 their mental health
7:24 condition and psychiatrist and
7:27 psychologist be help to know their
7:29 client in a better way by using scales
7:32 and um
7:36 questionnaires and as for the study U by
7:39 psychologist Jessica states that AI can
7:41 also predict suicide attempts by the
7:44 accuracy of 80 to
7:54 92% before the attempt especially among hospital
8:01 patients but do you think
8:04 um every do you think that every rose
8:08 has its thorns J AI can exess to
8:10 accessibility and availability it can
8:14 lack the genuine human component that is
8:23 empathy
8:27 so um as we uh so today we have talked
8:29 about how how AI sometimes
8:33 you know Lift us up and bring us down so
8:35 as we wrap up here just a little food of
8:37 thought that in a world you can be
8:41 anything be kind sprinkle kindness
8:43 wherever you go because remember behind
8:46 every profile picture there's a real
8:50 human being with real feelings so let's
8:52 be more than just like share and comment
8:55 let's be genuine
8:58 friends so today I want to challenge you
9:00 that when whenever you find yourself
9:02 endlessly scrolling through social media
9:05 just go and sit with your family or call
9:08 your friend I challenge you to set
9:11 timings on your Tech and unfollow some
9:13 accounts that are not serving you
9:15 anything and mindfully follow some
9:18 account I challenge you to use
9:20 technology for your mental health by
9:23 downloading apps that are helping you
9:25 for example meditation app Stress
9:28 Management app mood trackers and
9:29 whenever you feel over
9:43 said so let me just post Instagram story
9:45 about this dead talk on my Instagram
9:46 thank you [Applause]
