0:01 in this lesson i want to explore the
0:02 benefits and usage of azure advisor
0:06 and this is a service it's free that's
0:08 just built into azure really designed to
0:10 give you guidance about certain key
0:13 aspects of azure usage i can access it
0:16 through the portal or through the api to
0:19 get the various recommendations and this
0:21 is probably easier to understand just by
0:24 seeing it so if we jump over to the
0:26 portal
0:27 and we're going to scroll down and go to
0:29 down here
0:31 advisor
0:33 and what it's going to do is break down
0:34 these recommendations into five areas
0:38 we can see we have areas related to cost
0:41 i.e we have a certain resource
0:43 provisioned and maybe we should be
0:45 shutting it down maybe it should be a
0:46 different size maybe it should be a
0:48 different sku
0:50 things about security maybe we've got
0:51 public facing ip addresses that aren't
0:54 secured
0:55 things about
0:56 reliability maybe we can do things to
1:00 better ensure the continuity and
1:02 availability of our services
1:05 just following best practices around
1:07 operational excellence and then
1:09 performance what can we do to speed up
1:11 our actual applications
1:14 and what i would recommend is maybe once
1:16 a week we can go and check in on these
1:17 things so i have nothing around cost
1:20 right now
1:21 i can go to security so this is actually
1:24 integrating things like azure security
1:26 center which uses azure policy with a
1:29 predefined list of things it's looking
1:31 for
1:32 and it's telling me things that i should
1:35 do to improve the security of my
1:37 environment
1:38 likewise reliability hey we see you're
1:41 using a standard disk we recommend you
1:43 use premium disk which have a higher sla
1:47 therefore would improve my reliability
1:50 and operational excellence don't have
1:52 anything there
1:53 likewise performance
1:55 but you'll notice it's giving me a link
1:57 down here see a list of all of the
1:59 possible recommendations so if we jump
2:02 over to that
2:03 here we can see the things it might tell
2:06 us
2:07 about performance
2:09 things it might tell us about
2:10 reliability
2:13 things it will tell us about security
2:17 and this is again coming from azure
2:18 security center so that's going to be a
2:20 lot more focused around integrating with
2:22 azure security center
2:24 things about operational excellence
2:27 things about cost optimization so we can
2:29 actually go and see all the different
2:31 recommendations it may actually give
2:34 and so it really is a great place to
2:37 just go and check into and i can see all
2:39 my recommendations
2:40 i could even create alerts
2:42 about certain things i can have a
2:44 recommendation digest which is a report
2:47 that will summarize all of the active
2:50 recommendations available
2:52 there's even an advisor score which
2:55 based on all of the different
2:56 recommendations and what ones i have
2:58 addressed i get a certain score to say
3:01 well how good am i doing
3:03 following those various recommendations
3:05 so this is just something i would use
3:08 to hey get some azure guidance on those
3:12 different aspects of the environment
3:14 to try and make sure i'm being as
3:16 optimal as possible
