Hello! My name is Valeria.
I am twenty years old and I am from Peru.
I live in Spain now and study at the university.
I study civil engineering.
My university is in a big city.
It's different from my city in Peru.
There are many streets and many people.
I like living here, but sometimes I miss my country.
I miss my family and I miss the food from home.
Today is Friday and the weekend starts now.
I feel happy, but I also feel tired.
This week I had a lot of classes.
I had long assignments and I had to read a lot.
Now I want to rest and enjoy my time.
It's six in the evening when I leave the university.
I walk slowly down the street.
The sky is a little dark and the city lights shine.
It's a little cold, so I put on my jacket.
I walk towards my apartment.
I live in a small apartment, but it's comfortable.
I share it with two friends.
They are also students.
One is from Colombia and the other is from Spain.
We get along well and talk a lot.
When I arrive home, I listen to music in my room and sit on the bed.
I take a deep breath and think: "Finally, it's Friday."
I wake up late.
It's Saturday and I don't have classes.
I look at the clock and it's nine thirty.
Normally I get up at seven, but today I want to rest more.
I stay in bed for a few minutes.
I listen to the sound of the street.
There are cars and people talking.
I think about my family in Peru.
Today I want to talk to them.
I take my phone and video call my mom.
She greets me with a smile.
She asks me how I am.
I tell her about my classes and my friends.
She tells me about my younger brother and about my grandmother.
We also talk about food.
My mom tells me that yesterday she made ají de gallina.
I smile because I love that dish.
After the call, I go to the kitchen.
My friends are still sleeping.
I open the window and fresh air comes in.
I prepare coffee and bread with butter.
I also put a fruit on the table.
I like to eat slowly on weekends.
I drink my coffee and look out the window.
The street is quiet now.
When I finish breakfast, I put on some music.
I like to listen to songs in Spanish and English.
I sing a little while washing the cup and plate.
I think about what I want to do today.
I have many ideas, but I don't want to rush.
It's the weekend and I want to enjoy every moment.
After having breakfast and listening to music, I decide to leave the house.
I want to buy food.
I also want to walk around the city a little.
It's noon and the sun is high.
I put on a light jacket and take my purse.
I leave the apartment and walk down the street.
The city is more alive now.
There are people coming and going.
Some walk fast.
Others stroll slowly.
I see families with children and couples holding hands.
I hear the sound of footsteps, voices, and bicycles.
I arrive at a small store.
I like this store because it has fresh fruit.
I enter and greet the man who works there.
He smiles at me and says "hello."
I walk between the shelves and see red tomatoes, bananas, oranges, and apples.
There is also freshly made bread.
The smell is very good.
I take a basket and put bread, tomatoes, onions, and a little garlic inside.
I also take bananas and oranges.
Afterwards I go to the meat section.
Today I want to cook lomo saltado.
It's one of my favorite dishes from Peru.
I buy meat and also a little rice.
I pay for my purchases and leave the store.
I walk carefully because my bag is full.
The sun shines and I feel happy.
I pass by a bakery and see cakes.
I stop and buy a small chocolate cake.
It's to eat later.
When I get home, my friends are in the living room.
They ask me what I bought.
I show them the fruit and the meat.
One of them says that lomo saltado smells very good when it's cooked.
I tell them they can eat with me if they want.
They smile and say yes.
I go to the kitchen and start preparing the food.
I cut the meat into small pieces.
Then I cut onions and tomatoes.
I put oil in a pan and heat it.
The sound of the oil is loud when I put the meat in.
The smell starts to fill the kitchen.
I add the vegetables and stir everything with a spoon.
While the meat cooks, I put water on to boil for the rice.
My friends come to the kitchen and help me.
One cuts more tomatoes and the other sets the table.
We talk about the university, classes, and professors.
We laugh at some stories.
When the food is ready, we put it on plates.
The lomo saltado has meat, onion, tomato, and fried potatoes.
The white rice is on the side.
We sit at the table and start eating.
The flavor is delicious.
My friends say they like it a lot.
I feel happy because I can share a dish from my country.
After eating, we wash the dishes.
I don't like leaving the kitchen dirty.
We put the leftover food in the fridge.
I drink a glass of water and rest a little on the sofa.
I look at the clock and see that it's four in the afternoon.
I think it's a good time to go study at a café.
I take my purse again and put my notebook, pencil case, and laptop inside.
I walk to a café near my house.
It's a small but nice place.
It has wooden tables and plants in the corners.
The smell of coffee is strong and pleasant.
I enter and order a coffee with milk.
The waiter brings it to me in a large cup.
I sit at a table by the window.
I open my notebook and start reviewing university notes.
I read sentences and write down ideas.
From time to time, I look out the window and see people walking.
Some enter the café, others continue down the street.
I study for an hour.
The atmosphere is calm and I can concentrate well.
When I finish, I close the notebook and take the last sips of coffee.
Leaving the café, I decide to go to the park.
The park is a ten-minute walk away.
I like going there because there are trees, flowers, and benches to sit on.
When I arrive, I see children playing and people walking dogs.
The air is fresh and the sun is still shining.
I walk along the paths and listen to the birds singing.
I sit on a bench and take a deep breath.
I look at the green leaves and the colorful flowers.
I take my book out of my purse and read a little.
It's a book in Spanish that helps me improve my vocabulary.
I read slowly and try to understand each word.
I like learning like this, in a calm and beautiful place.
I stay in the park for almost an hour.
I see the sun starting to go down.
The light becomes softer.
I put the book away and get up.
I walk back home thinking about the evening.
I know I'm going out with my friends for tapas dinner.
I arrive home from the park and sit on the sofa.
My friends are in the living room.
They are talking about the evening.
One says she wants to eat tapas.
The other says she wants to listen to live music.
I smile.
I like the idea.
We can do both things.
It's almost eight in the evening.
We go to change clothes.
I go to my room and open the closet.
I think about what to wear.
I want comfortable clothes, but also nice ones.
I choose black pants and a light blouse.
I put on my favorite shoes.
I also put on a little perfume.
When I come out of the room, my friends are already ready.
One is wearing a blue dress and the other is wearing jeans and a red t-shirt.
We all laugh because we are happy.
We take our purses and leave the apartment.
The street is full of people.
It's Saturday and the city is alive.
There are groups walking, couples talking, families with children.
Lights from shops and restaurants illuminate the street.
We walk to a tapas bar we like.
We enter and the place has soft music.
There is a smell of bread and cheese.
We look for a table and sit down.
The waiter comes and gives us the menu.
We order several tapas to share.
We order tortilla de patatas, croquettes, bread with tomato, and fried calamari.
We also order a pitcher of sangria.
When the food arrives, everything looks delicious.
We take pictures of the table.
We try the tortilla and it's soft and hot.
The croquettes are crispy.
The calamari have lemon and salt.
We talk and laugh while we eat.
I like this moment because I can try food from Spain and talk with my friends.
I tell them a little about the food in Peru.
They say that one day they want to try more Peruvian dishes.
I tell them yes, that I can cook for them.
We finish eating and pay the bill.
It's almost ten at night.
We decide to walk around downtown a little.
There are lights on the streets and some people play guitar or sing.
We stop for a moment to listen to a boy singing on the corner.
He sings a well-known song and several people stop to watch.
Afterwards, we go to a place where there is live music.
It's a small bar with a stage.
A group plays guitar and sings songs in Spanish.
We sit near the stage and order drinks.
The music is cheerful.
Some people dance near the tables.
I listen and move my feet to the rhythm.
I like the energy of the place.
My friends are also happy.
We take pictures and record short videos.
The singer smiles at us because we sing some phrases with him.
We stay there for almost an hour.
Afterwards, we decide to go to a disco.
We want to dance more.
We walk down the street to a place with colored lights at the entrance.
There is loud music from outside.
We wait in line for a few minutes and then enter.
Inside there are many people.
The music is fast and the dance floor is full.
We leave our purses in a safe place and go to dance.
The light changes colors and the sound of the music fills the whole space.
We dance songs in Spanish and also in English.
Sometimes we sing while we dance.
My friends take my hands and we spin together.
We laugh and jump.
We don't think about the university or the assignments.
We just enjoy the moment.
After dancing a lot, we go to the bar and order water.
We talk a little and rest.
Then we go back to the dance floor for another song.
I like seeing people from many countries here.
Some dance very well, others just move a little, but everyone is happy.
The night passes quickly.
When I look at the clock, it's almost three in the morning.
My friends say it's time to go home.
We leave the disco and the street air is cool.
We walk slowly towards the apartment.
The streets are emptier now, but there are still some groups of people.
We arrive home tired but happy.
I take off my shoes and sit on the bed.
I think about the day and the night.
It was a Saturday full of food, music, and dance.
I turn off the light and fall asleep quickly.
I wake up late.
Last night I arrived very tired.
I danced a lot and walked quite a bit.
I open my eyes and see the light coming through the window.
I look at the clock and it's almost ten.
Normally I don't get up so late, but today is Sunday and I'm not in a hurry.
I stay in bed for a few more minutes.
I think about what I did yesterday.
I remember the food, the live music, and the disco.
I smile alone.
I feel happy to have friends with whom I can share those moments.
Finally, I get up.
I walk to the kitchen.
The house is silent.
My friends are still sleeping.
I put some water on to heat and prepare tea.
Today I don't want coffee, I want something softer.
I take a cup and drink slowly.
After the tea, I decide to wash my clothes.
My laundry basket is full.
I gather everything and take it to the laundry room.
I put the clothes in the washing machine and add soap.
I press the button and listen to the sound of the machine.
While the clothes wash, I tidy my room.
I fold some clean clothes and put the shoes in their place.
I open the window to let fresh air in.
I like to smell the morning air.
When the washing machine finishes, I take out the clothes and hang them on a clothesline.
I fold the large towels and hang them well.
The sun helps dry everything faster.
I look at my clothes hanging and feel satisfied.
I like when the clothes smell clean.
It's almost eleven thirty.
I decide to watch something on Netflix.
I sit on the sofa with a blanket.
I look for a series in Spanish to practice the language.
I find one I already know and put on an episode.
The story is simple and fun.
While I watch the series, I eat some fruit.
I ate a lot yesterday, so today I want something light in the morning.
I like oranges and bananas.
Peeling the orange reminds me of my mom, because she always prepared fruit for breakfast in Peru.
The series lasts forty minutes.
I laugh at some scenes.
I also learn new words.
I pause the episode sometimes to read the subtitles and repeat phrases quietly.
I like studying like this, in a relaxed way.
When the episode ends, I think it's a good time to exercise.
I don't want to go to the gym today, but I can move at home.
I change clothes and put on sportswear.
I also put on fast-paced music to motivate myself.
I start with stretches.
I move my arms and legs.
Then I do squats and gentle jumps.
I feel my heart beating faster.
I take deep breaths.
I exercise for twenty minutes.
It's not much, but it helps me feel active.
Afterwards, I lie on a mat and do some abdominal exercises.
I get tired, but I feel good.
When I finish, I drink water and take a quick shower.
The hot water relaxes me.
I put on comfortable clothes and return to the living room.
My friends have already woken up.
One is making coffee and the other is checking her phone.
I tell them I already exercised and washed my clothes.
They tell me they want to go out for a while this afternoon.
I like the idea.
We can go to a café or a store.
But first I want to study a little and maybe write in my notebook.
Sunday morning passes slowly.
Everything is calm.
Outside there is less noise than yesterday.
The streets seem to rest too.
I like these kinds of days because I can do simple things and feel good.
After having a light lunch, I prepare my purse.
Today I have a study group with two classmates.
We are going to review a math topic.
I like studying in a group because I can ask questions and also help other people.
I leave home and walk to the university library.
The walk is peaceful.
The sky is a bit cloudy, but it's not raining.
I like the fresh air.
When I arrive, my classmates are already at a table with their books and notebooks.
I say "hello" to them and sit with them.
We take out notes and start reviewing.
One of them explains an exercise.
I listen and write everything down.
Afterwards, I explain another problem.
I like it when we can understand together.
If someone doesn't understand something, we repeat it several times.
That helps a lot.
We study for almost an hour and a half.
We talk a little about next week.
We have an important assignment due and we want to organize ourselves.
We put dates and tasks on a paper.
I feel calmer when I know we have a plan.
When we finish, I put my things away and we leave together.
They go home, but I want to walk a little more.
I pass by a street with many small stores.
I like looking at the shop windows.
I see a clothing store.
I enter and walk between the racks.
There are colorful dresses, jackets, and shoes.
I touch a soft scarf, but I don't buy it.
I prefer to save money this month.
Afterwards, I pass by a bookstore.
I love this place.
It smells like new paper.
I walk through the aisles and see books in Spanish and English.
I find a small book with photos of cities in Spain.
I look at it and think it would be a good souvenir, but today I just want to look.
I keep walking and see a souvenir shop.
There are postcards, keychains, and mugs with the city's name.
I think about buying something for my family in Peru, but my trip is still a ways off.
I prefer to wait.
When I leave the store, the sun reappears between the clouds.
The air is warmer.
I decide to go back home.
I feel a little tired, but happy.
Upon arriving, I make myself a cup of tea and sit in my room.
I take out my personal notebook.
It's a notebook where I write about my life here.
I like writing because it helps me remember important moments.
I start writing about this weekend.
I write about Saturday in the park, the Peruvian food I cooked, and the night at the disco.
I also write about today: the study group, the stores, and the walk around the city.
I use simple and clear sentences.
Sometimes I draw something small in the margin.
Today I draw a coffee cup and some musical notes to remember the live music.
Writing makes me feel calm.
I think that someday, when I return to Peru, I will read this notebook and remember everything fondly.
I close the notebook and put it on my desk.
I look out the window and see that it's starting to get dark.
The afternoon goes quickly.
Soon it will be time for dinner and to prepare for the week.
After writing in my notebook, I go to the kitchen.
I prepare a simple dinner.
Today I'm not very hungry.
I just heat up soup and cut a little bread.
I like to eat something hot when night begins.
While I eat, I think about next week.
I also think about the holidays coming in a month.
I would love to travel to another city in Spain.
Maybe I can go with my friends.
I finish dinner and go to my room with my computer.
I open a travel website.
I type the name of several cities I want to visit.
I see photos of Seville, Valencia, and Granada.
They all look beautiful.
I look at train and bus prices.
Some are cheap if I buy early.
I take notes on a paper.
I write down possible dates, prices, and travel times.
I also look for places to visit in those cities.
I see photos of plazas, old streets, and famous buildings.
I imagine myself walking down those streets with a camera in my hand.
While I'm planning, I get a message on my phone.
It's from a university volunteer group.
Today they have an online meeting to organize an activity.
I decide to join.
I put on my headphones and enter the video call.
In the meeting, they talk about an event to help foreign students.
They want to do an afternoon language exchange.
I like the idea.
I can teach a little Spanish and also learn words in other languages.
I raise my hand and say I want to participate.
The meeting lasts about forty minutes.
When it ends, I feel happy.
I like helping and meeting new people.
I close the computer and stretch in the chair.
It's almost time to sleep, but first I want a moment for myself.
I go to the bathroom and put a face mask on.
I also prepare a cup of chamomile tea.
I take the tea to my room and sit on the bed.
I put on soft music.
I close my eyes for a few seconds and take a deep breath.
I think about everything I did this weekend.
I cooked food from my country, studied with friends, walked around the city, danced, planned trips, and participated in a volunteer meeting.
It was a full weekend, but also calm.
I feel grateful to be here.
It's not always easy to live far from home, but every day I learn something new.
I learn at the university, I learn on the street, and I learn from the people I meet.
I drink the last sip of tea.
I remove the face mask and turn off the light.
I look at my phone one last time.
I send a quick message to my mom to wish her good night.
She responds with a heart.
I get under the blankets and close my eyes.
The sound of the city is softer now.
I feel my body relaxed.
Tomorrow will be Monday and another week starts, but now I just want to sleep.
In conclusion, this weekend was very nice.
I rested, studied, cooked, and spent time with my friends.
I also thought about my family and my country.
Although I miss them, I am happy here.
Every day I learn new things and enjoy the simple moments.
Now I feel ready to start a new week.
