0:01 blender is really hard you guys and this
0:04 is my attempt at making the easiest
0:08 blender tutorial ever ever ever wow that
0:09 was really epic with the Echo and
0:11 everything I made a whole video about
0:14 how I finally managed to learn Blender
0:16 at least parts of it by focusing on just
0:18 some of the core features and how a lot
0:20 of the tutorials out there just kind of
0:22 lost me when I was starting out because
0:25 they covered way too much ground blender
0:27 can't get the best of
0:30 me I was not ready I'm fine by the way
0:32 thanks for asking my recovery it's going
0:34 well so while blender does a lot of
0:36 different things from realistic textures
0:39 and rendering to animation and sculpting
0:41 I'm going to start with 3D modeling
0:43 today because we can accomplish a lot
0:46 with just a handful of tools also it's
0:47 kind of fun more than kind of fun it's
0:49 really fun once you get a little
0:51 comfortable in blender it's like Legos
0:53 for adults I should know I'm a fully
0:55 grown adult let's imagine you've never
0:57 opened blender before this is your first
0:59 time wait what no that's not a cube you
1:01 don't see a cube you're not ready for
1:05 cube you're ready for Mouse M Mouse the
1:07 scroll wheel is super important in
1:08 blender pressing it down will let you
1:10 pivot around in 3D space and then
1:12 holding down the shift key while
1:13 clicking that middle Mouse button is
1:15 going to let you pan around from side to
1:17 side also I wrote down all of the
1:18 shortcut keys we're going to be using
1:20 today into one worksheet so they're all
1:22 right there this is not all the
1:23 shortcuts and blender if you look those
1:25 up those are crazy those are wild you
1:27 can't handle that I can't handle that
1:29 this is just the shortcuts we are using
1:30 today the core ones that we need for
1:32 this tutorial just to keep it simple you
1:34 can download that in the free section of
1:36 my website Brads Arts school.com oh yeah
1:37 I also added the blender source file up
1:39 there too if you want to play around
1:40 with that it's right under my learn to
1:42 draw in 60 days course you should also
1:44 check that out save that for the end
1:45 right right save the promotion for the
1:48 later got it okay now y'all are ready
1:50 for cube we are going to start with this
1:52 shape so I'm going to click on it to
1:53 select it and I'm going to hit the
1:55 letter s for scale and that's going to
1:57 let us grow this thing or Shrink this
2:00 thing down now this is a 3D face so we
2:04 have axes this red line here represents
2:07 the x axis the the green line represents
2:09 the Y AIS and you can't see it but
2:11 there's a z-axis as well for up and down
2:13 so for example I want this only to grow
2:15 on the Y AIS so I'm going to hit the
2:17 letter Y and we're just going to grow
2:18 this thing out a little bit and I'm
2:20 going to click now I want this to be
2:22 narrower so I'm going to hit s for scale
2:24 again this time on the z-axis hit the
2:26 letter Z and I'm going to scale that
2:28 down till it looks about right that
2:31 looks good maybe I scale it again on my
2:33 y AIS to make it a little bit shorter
2:35 but that looks that looks about right I
2:37 think that's what I'm going for now this
2:39 is a good time to talk about modes let's
2:41 look up here in the upper leftand corner
2:43 we have the object mode but if I use
2:45 this drop down we have more we're going
2:47 to be bouncing between object mode and
2:50 edit mode a lot so if we're in object
2:52 mode I'm going to use one color on the
2:53 screen if we're in edit mode I'm going
2:56 to use another color so go ahead and
2:58 click on edit mode edit mode lets you
3:01 edit points so so I can click on any
3:02 point here and then I'm going to grab my
3:05 move tool on the left hand side and then
3:07 I could just drag this point wherever I
3:09 want it to be just doing this is going
3:12 to really let us modify all of our
3:14 shapes I want to start by adding more
3:16 points to the shape so I need to select
3:17 our entire shape I'm going to hit the
3:20 letter A for all to do that then I'm
3:22 going to hit controlr for something
3:24 called a loop cut and you can see here
3:26 this yellow line is where I'm going to
3:29 cut this shape in half if I use my mouse
3:30 scroll wheel to scroll up I could
3:32 actually add as many Cuts as I want to
3:34 this shape I only need two so that's
3:36 what I'm going to go for now I click to
3:38 do my Loop cut and then I can move my
3:41 mouse back and forth to decide where I
3:43 want these shapes to go I actually want
3:45 this to be a little wider in the middle
3:47 than it is right now I need to see all
3:48 the points of my object better so let's
3:51 look in the upper right hand corner here
3:54 there's four little icons here right now
3:57 I'm in solid mode the icon next to it is
3:59 wireframe mode I'm going to click that
4:01 and now I can see the points behind my
4:03 object so what I can do with my mouse is
4:05 I can select the points I want if I want
4:07 more than one point I hold down shift
4:09 and I click that point as well and I can
4:12 grab these four points and I can move
4:14 them back kind of like that in fact
4:16 while I'm here I'm just going to click
4:18 and drag on these points and I'm just
4:20 going to drag them back a little bit as
4:23 well kind of like that that looks pretty
4:26 good now next to edit mode there's an
4:29 option to grab a whole line so I can
4:30 click click on a line and I'm going to
4:33 grab that entire thing which will save
4:35 you time from having to just grab one
4:37 point at a time or you can grab planes
4:39 this is really helpful so I can grab
4:41 just the plane that I'm looking to
4:43 modify now what I want to do is I want
4:45 to take this plane and I want to like
4:48 extrude it upwards there's a shortcut
4:50 for that the letter e and with that I
4:53 just pull my mouse up and there we go I
4:55 have added kind of the top section of
4:58 our car here so I'm going to grab these
5:00 two front points and I to use this
5:03 little green arrow to just drag that
5:05 back on our y AIS to kind of make my
5:08 front windshield tilt back just a little
5:10 bit going to scroll around and I'm going
5:12 to do the same thing on the back uh
5:14 probably not going to do it quite as
5:15 much as the front but just just give it
5:17 a little bit of an angle I'm going to go
5:20 back to my solid mode I'm going to
5:22 rotate around because the next thing I
5:24 want to do is I want to add a windshield
5:27 to this so let's select that front face
5:29 and we're going to use something called insect
5:30 insect
5:33 letter I and now when I move my mouse in
5:36 it's going to inset that shape and then
5:38 I could use the letter e ex screwed to
5:40 go in to inset our windshield I don't
5:42 like it how do we not do that all right
5:43 so this is where blender gets a little
5:45 technical we got to explain some stuff
5:48 so if we have a boring Cube and we inset
5:51 it it works perfectly the tops and the
5:53 sides are the same width so when we
5:56 extrude it just works but then when I
5:58 hit s to scale it say I scale it on the
6:01 x axis what happens it gets kind of
6:03 stretchy on the sides so what we need to
6:05 do is we need to Kit tab to go back to
6:08 our object mode and we have to apply the
6:11 transform hit controll a for apply and
6:13 I'm just going to apply all of the
6:16 transforms this kind of resets the shape
6:18 a little bit and I can hit tab to go
6:21 back to my edit mode and then let's take
6:22 a look at what happens to this when we
6:25 hit I for inset oh look at that it's
6:28 perfect now extrude it extrudes exactly
6:30 the way we want it all of those sides
6:32 are equal and that's what we need to do
6:34 with our car body as well so let's hit
6:38 tab to go to object mode contrl a to
6:40 apply our transforms and we're going to
6:42 apply all transforms we should be good
6:44 now so I'm going to hit tab to go back
6:46 to edit mode going to make sure that
6:49 windshield is selected I for inset and
6:50 then I'm just going to scale it in just
6:53 a tiny bit oh that is perfect hit e for
6:55 extrude and I'm just going to pull it a
6:57 little bit I love it that's good that's
6:59 good now I can select this side do the
7:02 same thing I for inset I'm just going to
7:03 try to make it the same size as the
7:05 other one e for extrude I'm just going
7:07 to try to pull it in a little bit like
7:10 the other one going to rotate around
7:14 grab this I scale it in E just going to
7:16 push that in a little bit one more guys
7:20 select it I for inset e for extrude and
7:23 there we go we got our car windshields
7:25 set and looking pretty decent right
7:27 there okay I'm happy with that so with
7:29 our base car in place it's time to add
7:31 some wheels so we're going to leave edit
7:34 mode with a tab back to object mode and
7:36 we're going to add a cylinder which is
7:39 going to become our tire so shift a for
7:41 ADD and we can add a whole bunch of
7:43 stuff here but what I'm looking for is
7:47 mesh and in mesh we have cubes circles
7:49 cylinders all sorts of stuff so let's
7:51 grab that cylinder I'm just going to
7:52 grab this little red arrow on that
7:54 doohickey and move it on out and then
7:56 I'm going to scale it cuz it's too big
7:58 we don't need it that big we just need a
8:00 tire size and then I'm also going to
8:03 scale it and hit Z on my Z axis so I can
8:06 also make it about the width of a tire
8:07 too now we're not done with this I mean
8:09 I I guess we could be but I want to add
8:11 a little bit more detail to that tire so
8:13 let's go ahead and do that by hitting
8:15 tab to go into edit mode I'm going to
8:18 click on that front face to select it
8:20 I'm going to hit the letter i for inset
8:22 again and we're going to move in oh that
8:24 looks about right and then we're going
8:25 to hit e for extrude and we're just
8:26 going to pull it in a little bit then
8:28 we're going to hit I for inset again
8:30 we're going to move it in that looks
8:32 about right e for extrude and I'm going
8:34 to pull it up a little bit up and out
8:36 just to give it a little texture and
8:38 there we go I think for now that's
8:39 that's going to work for the wheel that
8:41 I want to create so since that wheel is
8:43 done we're going to go back to object
8:45 mode with a tab and now I need to rotate
8:48 this thing the letter R rotates but I
8:50 this is not going to work well like
8:52 getting this tire lined up I mean you
8:54 could make it look like it's in the
8:57 right angle but once you move around it
9:00 is totally not going to be a the proper
9:02 angle so let's undo that now our Gizmo
9:04 up here at the top is going to let us
9:08 see just like a side view of the car or
9:10 a top view of the car I want a front
9:12 view of the car there we go that looks
9:13 pretty good now I'm going to hit the
9:15 letter R and when I rotate it's only
9:17 going to rotate on that one axis which
9:19 makes my life a whole lot easier now
9:20 it's still kind of hard to get it
9:23 perfectly lined up so what I could do is
9:24 hold down the control key so it's going
9:27 to kind of click in little like 5 degree
9:29 increments that looks about right and
9:31 there we go it looks like our tire is is
9:32 kind of looking like it's in the right
9:34 spot if we want to double check our work
9:36 let's go look at this right hand panel a
9:39 lot of stuff over here it can get
9:41 overwhelming I get it but don't panic
9:43 I'm not panicking you don't see me
9:45 panicking so at the top what we have
9:47 here is our collections these kind of
9:50 work like layers in a drawing app each
9:52 shape you draw will be located here so
9:53 we have our cylinder and if I wanted to
9:55 I could double click on it and I could
9:58 just say this is a wheel I'm going to
10:02 rename it that our cube is our car body
10:03 you don't have to do that but it's a
10:05 nice way to keep this clean so with our
10:07 wheel selected I'm going to look at the
10:09 next section of our sidebar which has
10:11 all of these little icons there's a lot
10:13 of little icons here but we want this
10:16 orange one called object properties in
10:18 here I can see rotation it's already set
10:21 at 90° cuz I rotated it but if you just
10:23 want to go in here and type in 90 that
10:25 might be a way to save you time so let's
10:28 position this tire uh in a place that
10:30 looks like a place a Tire we go on a car
10:33 so I'm just going to move it here and
10:34 then I'll rotate it around okay that's
10:37 too high let's move it down I kind of
10:38 want it to be
10:40 halfway uh I got to got to move it
10:42 forward a little bit so that looks like
10:45 where the wheel would go but here here's
10:47 the problem with this uh I want some
10:49 space around the tire right that's
10:51 that's kind of how cars are so let's cut
10:54 a shape out of our main car here let's
10:56 move this tire out of the way that'll
10:58 make our lives easier and what we're
10:59 going to do is we're going to create
11:00 create a cylinder and then we're going
11:02 to take that cylinder and we're going to
11:05 cut it out of where the wheel will go in
11:08 our car shape okay follow me on this
11:09 yeah we got this don't panic it's easy
11:11 you just got to do it once or twice
11:13 shift a to add a shape we're going to go
11:15 to mesh and then we're going to go to
11:17 cylinder I'm going to go ahead and drag
11:18 that out of there I'm also going to
11:21 scale it down to about the size I need I
11:22 might scale it again we need to rotate
11:24 it I already know what I'm doing so I'm
11:26 just going to go to my y- AIS type 90
11:28 and hit enter to rotate it now what I
11:32 want is a side view of this car so I can
11:34 actually like line up all of these
11:35 different things my cylinder and my
11:37 wheel I want them to kind of line up a
11:38 little bit so I'm going to go ahead and
11:40 do that and now I can see this nice side
11:42 view and it's going to let me move this
11:45 cylinder over and I can see that kind of
11:47 looks okay but I need to move it down
11:50 I'm going to move it a little bit over
11:52 maybe it's a little too big so I hit s
11:55 to scale down that a little bit that
11:57 looks about right to me okay let's see
11:58 how that's looking cool and now I'm
12:00 going to move Mo this into the center of
12:02 the car I'm going to hit s for scale
12:04 again but we're just going to scale it
12:08 on the X AIS so that it spans the entire
12:10 width of the car this is the shape we're
12:12 going to cut out of the car okay you
12:14 guys ready for this I think you're ready
12:15 for this I'm ready for this cuz this is
12:17 where blender gets really excited we are
12:19 going to use modifiers see this little
12:21 wrench on the right hand side that is
12:22 modifiers we're going to click it I'm
12:24 going to select my car and we're going
12:27 to add a modifier to our car and what
12:29 this lets us do is all all sorts of
12:32 fancy things after clicking add modifier
12:34 I have generate and what we're looking
12:36 for right now is something called
12:39 Boolean it's the third one from the top
12:40 once you add your modifier it's going to
12:43 have a whole bunch of stuff over here
12:44 that you can look at some of it may be a
12:47 little confusing but just bear with me
12:49 Boolean is going to ask you what object
12:51 do you want to trim out of your shape
12:53 and there's a little eye dropper here if
12:55 I click on that eye dropper I can go
12:57 here and I can say I want this cylinder
13:00 cut out of it and you can see with this
13:02 orange line that outlines the shape of
13:04 our car it has done that it is going
13:06 around the curve of that cylinder
13:08 there's only one problem you'd think oh
13:10 I'll move my cylinder out now where did
13:13 my cut go I wanted that there don't
13:15 worry we can fix this if we want the cut
13:17 to stay there even if the object moves
13:19 we have to apply the modifier basically
13:22 like flattening a layer in Photoshop so
13:24 if I click on this Arrow here one of my
13:27 options is apply I'm going to click that
13:29 now when I move that cylinder ER let's
13:32 move it back look at that look at that I
13:33 told you this was exciting I'm excited
13:35 so I'm going to move this cylinder over
13:37 to where I think the other Tire will go
13:39 probably about there I'm going to click
13:41 on the car I'm going to add another
13:43 modifier I'm going to go to generate and
13:44 I'm going to go to Boolean again we're
13:46 going to do the same exact thing so we
13:48 grab our eyedropper tool what do we want
13:50 to cut out this cylinder and then we go
13:52 to this arrow and we're going to apply
13:55 it and there we go now I'm going to
13:57 select this cylinder I'm going to hit X
13:59 to delete it hit okay and and there we
14:02 go we have cut that shape out of this
14:06 car pretty darn cool now I can take this
14:09 wheel and I could just slide it into
14:13 place that looks about right oh yeah
14:15 we've got a wheel in a car perfectly
14:17 placed so what we could do is just hit
14:20 shift d and duplicate this tire and move
14:23 it all around but no no no we got to use
14:25 more modifiers because the more you
14:27 learn about modifiers the cooler blender
14:28 gets so we're going to use a modifier
14:31 called array so let's click add modifier
14:34 go to generate and then click array now
14:36 you can see it's added a second Tire
14:39 under our main tire so what array does
14:41 is it allows us to add how many of
14:43 something we want to reproduce over and
14:45 over again so this is six of them I
14:47 don't need six I only need two tires for
14:49 now right now it's on the x axis I'm
14:51 going to set that to zero cuz I want
14:54 this on my y AIS let's set that to one
14:56 and there you can see the tire is now
14:58 appearing uh behind the main Tire I need
15:00 to to move that back to the other Tire
15:03 well and so we're going to do that by
15:06 looking at this little field here where
15:07 we could type in numbers I'm going to
15:09 hit three where does that put us that
15:12 puts us pretty darn close let's click on
15:14 our Gizmo so we can see this a little
15:17 bit better I going say
15:20 3.2 that was too much let's go
15:22 3.09 now your car is going to be a
15:23 little different so you're going to have
15:25 to kind of go in there and fudge it a
15:27 little bit but that's that's pretty much
15:29 how you do it there we go we got wheel
15:32 there we are done with our car okay we
15:34 need to put wheels on the other side too
15:36 that's not cool well the wheels on that
15:38 side look good so let's go ahead and
15:40 apply that transform little arrow down
15:43 here apply just like we did with the
15:45 Boolean now let's select those tires
15:46 again we're going to use another
15:49 modifier this one is in generate and
15:50 it's called mirror and it's going to
15:52 mirror our tires now if you first
15:54 selected you can't really see anything
15:55 and it depends on the axis that you're
15:59 using so for example if I select the y a
16:00 you can see a tire appeared over here on
16:03 the left hand side I'm going to unselect
16:05 the xaxis so what our tire is trying to
16:08 figure out is where it should mirror to
16:10 right now it's mirroring on itself we
16:12 want it to mirror on the car so see this
16:15 little field here mirror object we're
16:17 going to grab our eyedropper tool and
16:19 we're going to select the car to say we
16:20 want it to mirror to that then we're
16:21 going to make sure it's on the right
16:24 Axis I'm going to hit X there we go and
16:27 we have wheels look at that we got
16:29 wheels so what we have here is is the
16:31 core of our car and it's time to add
16:33 some details I want to add some rearview
16:34 mirrors maybe a bumper so let's go ahead
16:37 and do that shift a to add a shape we're
16:38 going to go to mesh and then we're going
16:40 to go down to a cube now let's start
16:41 with a bumper so I'm just going to pull
16:43 this out to the front it's an okay width
16:45 so we're going to hit scale and then Z
16:47 and let's make it a bumper height and
16:49 we'll just kind of guess it here hit X
16:51 to scale it again then we're going to
16:53 hit Y and we're just going to make it a
16:56 lot lot shorter maybe kind of like that
16:58 there we go and I'm going to make a a
17:01 touch wide s x and we'll just pull it
17:03 out a little bit and now I'm going to
17:05 move it into place we'll see how that
17:08 looks and I'm going to just kind of Pull
17:10 It in like that and maybe I put it down
17:13 here closer to the bottom of the car
17:15 kind of like that now I want that bumper
17:17 to be a little closer to that wheel so
17:18 I'm going to pull it in and then I'm
17:20 going to hit s again we're going to
17:22 scale it on the Y I'm going to pull it
17:25 out just a tiny bit kind of like that
17:27 maybe I push it out there we go this is
17:29 where it gets fiddly and modeling is
17:32 kind of fun we just move things around
17:34 try different sizes I'm going to hit
17:35 shift d on that shape I'm just going to
17:37 click so it stays in place then grab my
17:39 green arrow to just pull it all the way
17:41 back and this will also serve as our
17:43 back bumper as well I also want to add
17:44 some rearview mirrors so let's go ahead
17:46 and hit shift a to add a shape we go to
17:48 mesh and we're just going to start again
17:51 with a cube let's pull this out and hit
17:52 s for scale and we're just going to make
17:55 it really tiny maybe we hit s again and
17:57 uh on our z-axis cuz I want it to be a
17:59 skinnier Cube maybe we also change our y
18:02 so we hit s and we change our y AIS a
18:04 little bit and that looks rear view
18:07 mirror is so let's kind of move it close
18:09 to the side of our car this is a low
18:11 poly car so I'm okay with it being kind
18:14 of boxy but I don't want it to be just a
18:16 box so let's hit tab to go into edit
18:19 mode I'm going to just grab these two
18:20 points and I'm going to pull that back a
18:23 little bit maybe I grab these two points
18:25 and I pull them up a little bit to make
18:27 this thing a little bit aerodynamic I'm
18:28 going to grab these two points and move
18:30 them down a little bit you kind of see
18:31 where I'm going with this I'm trying to
18:34 make this a little less boxy in fact I
18:36 think it sticks out a little bore that I
18:38 want it to so this is just the area
18:40 where I like to fiddle and I like to
18:41 figure out what looks good with the
18:43 model now I also want to attach this to
18:44 the car to do that I'm just going to use
18:46 another Cube now I am still in edit mode
18:48 one of the cool things is if I hit shift
18:51 a go ahead and add a cube in edit mode
18:53 and then we'll move it out here hit s to
18:57 scale this cube is now part of the same
18:59 shape what does that mean well if I have
19:01 Tab and I go back to object mode now you
19:03 can see this is just one shape both of
19:05 those Cubes at the same time I'm going
19:08 to tab back into edit mode and I'm just
19:12 going to move this into place maybe get
19:15 it there maybe move it back and now I
19:18 can mirror that on the other side the
19:20 same way that I did with the wheels now
19:23 I'm in object mode I go over here to add
19:25 modifier generate mirror I use my little
19:28 eyedropper tool and I select the car
19:29 that's what I want it mirrored to and
19:31 there we go it just mirrors because X is
19:33 already selected over here on the side
19:35 what else do I want to add I'm going to
19:37 just add some simple door handle shift a
19:40 cuz this is just going to start with a
19:43 mesh then a cube move the cube out scale
19:46 it on down so it's teeny tiny there we
19:48 go I want it to be wider so we're going
19:51 to scale it on the Y AIS to be a little
19:54 bit wider kind of door handle with there
19:55 we go and then we just move it into
19:57 place Boop on the side of our car so it
19:59 just sticks out a little bit and there
20:02 we go move it up here move it up here
20:03 there we go that kind of looks like a
20:06 door handle position there's a one door
20:07 car and then we're going to add a
20:09 modifier here too we select it add
20:11 modifier generate go to mirror ey
20:13 dropper tools select the car and guess
20:15 what we got a door handle on the other
20:17 side too same location so that is
20:20 looking pretty close to good I still
20:22 want to fiddle with the shape a little
20:24 bit I'm going to tab into edit mode for
20:25 my car and I'm just going to make a
20:28 couple quick tweaks for example I want
20:29 this to go down a little bit you see
20:31 that on cars they kind of slant maybe I
20:33 pull this back a little bit make it look
20:35 like an 80s car maybe I grab the entire
20:38 front plate and I say I for inset and
20:41 then I zoom in a little bit and then we
20:43 extrude and we pull in a little bit
20:45 sweet now I maybe want to add some
20:47 blocks that I'm going to use headlights
20:50 shift a mesh Cube insert pull it on out
20:53 of there s for scale let's knock that
20:54 thing down there we go we're going to
20:56 move it over to the side maybe we scale
20:59 it down again maybe something like that
21:02 for our headlight maybe we scale X to
21:04 make it a little bit wider and then
21:06 maybe we push it way in this is kind of
21:08 sitting under the bumper a little bit
21:10 but it's kind of sticking out that's
21:12 cool add modifier generate mirror ey
21:15 dropper to select the object select our
21:17 car and it just goes into place
21:19 beautiful that looking good okay so
21:21 let's take a quick break and go back to
21:23 these little icons in the upper right
21:25 hand corner of our screen we already
21:27 talked about the wireframe icon that
21:29 lets us see all our lines we're using
21:31 the solid version here there's also this
21:33 this is viewport shading which is just
21:34 going to show you your colors so if you
21:36 just want to see flat colors on your
21:38 object you can do that we have no colors
21:39 so we're just white but then we have
21:42 this third one here and this is your
21:44 rendered View and this is actually using
21:47 a renderer to show you what your car is
21:49 going to look like so one of the things
21:52 I love about blender is that like clay
21:54 looking feel that you get with some of
21:55 just the basic renders so let's go to
21:57 our options here one of this is our
22:00 render tab which is this little camera
22:02 icon it's like the back of a camera icon
22:04 our default rendering engine in this
22:07 drop down is Eevee and that's cool but
22:09 my favorite one is Cycles I just think
22:11 Cycles looks a lot better the problem
22:14 with Cycles as you pan around is if
22:16 you're on a laptop or computer that
22:18 doesn't have really great Hardware is
22:19 you're going to hear the fan in your
22:21 computer spit up pretty fast this is
22:23 really processor intense I have a GPU in
22:25 my computer so I'm going to select this
22:27 drop down and I'm going to go from my
22:29 CPU to my GPU you don't have to do that
22:32 but that if you do have a gaming
22:33 computer or something with a graphics
22:35 card that's going to help you I also am
22:36 going to add something to this I'm going
22:38 to hit shift a going to go to mesh and
22:40 we're going to add a plane now you can't
22:42 really see it cuz it's inside our car so
22:45 we'll hit s to scale and we'll just grow
22:46 it up really big and you can see it's
22:48 snack dab in the middle of our car
22:51 that's fine if I scroll out there's some
22:54 other things that come with every new
22:56 blender file that you create there is a
22:59 camera and there is this little thing
23:02 this is a light now your basic light
23:04 source is not that exciting but we can
23:05 move it around just like we could move
23:06 anything else and you're going to see
23:08 your shadows move and you guessed it on
23:11 the right hand side there is a tab it's
23:13 called data and it's going to let us
23:16 choose what features we want our light
23:19 to have so right now it it is a point of
23:21 Light which is fine but I like area
23:23 lights so I'm going to hit on area in my
23:26 tab and here I can select the direction
23:27 that area light is going in I'm just
23:29 going to have it face straight down and
23:34 then maybe for my size I set it to 10 by
23:36 10 and that gives me this nice soft
23:38 color look that I think looks really
23:40 really good I'm going to take that plane
23:42 I'm going to move it down so that my car
23:45 just kind of sitting on it yeah this is
23:47 this is what I was going for I'm going
23:49 to go ahead and scale that plane up even
23:52 more so now we have that nice clay model
23:54 build now blender has a section with
23:56 nodes and all sorts of rendering options
23:58 really really cool stuff but that that
23:59 section can start to overwhelm you so
24:02 we're going to keep it dead simple I'm
24:05 going to change my view here to material
24:06 preview I'm going to select that plane
24:09 my car is sitting on and on my sidebar
24:10 I'm going to go to this little world
24:13 icon that says material we're going to
24:15 just do some barebone basic materials
24:17 but you can do a lot here so first of
24:19 all there's no material assigned to this
24:21 right now so I'm going to click on new
24:22 and see here we can change our base
24:24 color and we can change a whole bunch of
24:26 stuff about it we're just going to color
24:27 some things so I'm going to have this
24:29 sit on grass so so I'm going to select
24:30 like a greenish color and then I'm going
24:33 to move down uh the brightness of this
24:35 on the side a little bit and I'm going
24:37 to do this with all my objects I'm going
24:39 to grab my tires I'm going to click new
24:40 going to grab that color and I want a
24:43 gray so I'm just going to drag down on
24:45 that brightness slider a little bit to
24:47 get those to be gray I'm going to grab
24:49 the car itself we're going to make that
24:51 blue I'm going to tap on the color I'm
24:53 going to move this over to Blue going to
24:55 drag the slider down a little bit to
24:57 make it a little bit darker of a blue
25:00 maybe kind of towards here and the thing
25:02 about materials like our layers we can
25:06 tap on that and I can call this car blue
25:08 so if I want to use that Elsewhere for
25:10 example these rearview mirrors I want to
25:12 be the same blue what I can do is
25:14 instead of hitting new I can click on
25:16 this little drop down menu next to New
25:17 and I could just grab one of the
25:19 materials that already exists like my
25:21 car blue and then if I change that blue
25:24 anywhere it's going to change everywhere
25:26 let's go back to our render image and we
25:28 can see how this is starting to look
25:30 it's starting to look kind of cool I'm
25:32 going to click on my car again and we're
25:34 going to play around a little bit cuz
25:36 that's just changing the base color and
25:37 we can do some neat things with that but
25:39 you're going to see some of the options
25:40 for example underneath base color it
25:43 says metallic if I scrub that up I can
25:46 make that car look kind of shiny I can
25:48 also do reduce the roughness which makes
25:52 it super shiny probably too shiny so
25:54 we'll kind of move the roughness up
25:55 because if you think about it cars have
25:58 Flex inside the paint also our car is
26:00 one object and we want different parts
26:03 of the car to be different colors I
26:05 don't want the windshield to be the same
26:07 shade of blue so I'm going to hit tab to
26:09 go to edit mode I'm going to select a
26:11 face for example I'll select that face
26:13 and this gets a little bit tricky but I
26:15 think you got this so where it says car
26:18 blue if we change just that face to say
26:19 green it's going to change the whole
26:21 thing that is not what we want so let's
26:23 go back to car blue what we want is we
26:25 want to click this plus button that's
26:27 going to let us add more than one
26:30 material to this object I'm going to
26:31 click new and now I'm just going to
26:35 select a dark gray for my windshield and
26:36 uh I'm going to move the roughness way
26:38 down cuz I I want it to be kind of shiny
26:40 like glass while I'm here I'm going to
26:43 go and call that wind shield and the
26:44 next thing I want to do is there's a
26:46 button here called assign and that will
26:49 assign this color to this plane so I'll
26:51 click that now when I click off you can
26:53 see that it's a different color if I
26:56 grab this plane select windshield over
26:58 on the right hand side click assign
27:01 I've assigned it there back windshield
27:03 click that color hit assign this side
27:05 window over here click the right color
27:07 hit assign and you can see from this
27:09 angle we even are getting a little bit
27:11 of reflection sometimes of the rear viw
27:14 mirror of the hood of the car I'm really
27:15 digging that I'm going to leave this
27:17 area there's one more color I want to do
27:18 which is the bumper let's go ahead and
27:20 hit new this is metallic so I'm going to
27:22 go ahead and scrub that up and then this
27:23 is just going to be a light gray so
27:25 we'll just go with a light gray you know
27:28 metal bumper that looks all right I'm
27:30 also going to select our door handles
27:31 and instead of creating a new thing I'm
27:33 just going to go here and I'm going to
27:35 grab the material I made for our bumper
27:37 another tab over here on the side is
27:40 world and our background is gray you see
27:43 that here in the surface panel so if I
27:44 tap on that I can actually make the
27:46 world lighter by Rising that up and what
27:48 that's going to do is that's actually
27:49 going to change all the lighting for the
27:51 whole scene so maybe you don't want it
27:53 lit all the way up but I do like to turn
27:55 that up a little bit just to add a
27:57 little bit more light to the world since
28:00 our car is done I'm going to stop here
28:01 even though we could just keep going and
28:03 keep going and keep going but just by
28:05 adding objects changing their shape
28:08 changing their size extruding parts of
28:10 them you can do all sorts of things
28:12 here's a sample car I made for this
28:14 tutorial to walk you through it and I
28:16 built a whole scene and basically if you
28:19 look at this stuff this tree is just a
28:20 cylinder I added some Loop cuts to the
28:22 middle and then I scaled it and moved
28:24 around the points a little bit that's a
28:26 trunk the trees themselves what the heck
28:28 are those if I hit shift a and go down
28:30 here to mesh there's something called an
28:32 icosphere this is what an icosphere
28:34 looks like that's it I'll scale it up
28:37 there we go that is what my tree is made
28:39 of my rocks and everything and then I
28:42 added some iOS speres in the front of my
28:44 camera so that when we actually rendered
28:46 out this scene there'd be some
28:47 foreground elements some background
28:50 elements I added this blue pane in the
28:52 sky and I put a light on it to add like
28:55 a little gradient in there all of this
28:57 is dead simple but if you can do this
28:59 with dead simple objects just imagine
29:01 what you could do with blender when you
29:03 start diving in and learning the other
29:05 elements I hope this helped I tried to
29:07 make it as simple as possible let me
29:08 know in the comments what would make
29:10 this easier or if this helped you at all
29:12 and I'd like to thank the members and
29:14 patreon supporters who make this channel
29:16 possible is a bit of an experiment for
29:17 me making more videos for this channel
29:19 trying to make it work and so that
29:21 support is huge also I want to shout out
29:23 my course learn to draw in 60 days
29:24 that's another way I support this
29:26 channel so if you're looking to get into
29:28 art and illustration that is a
29:30 beginner's course that I would recommend
29:31 there's links for that Below in the
29:32 description thank you all for watching
