Hello everyone, and welcome to the new episode of They Never Logged Out, a Deadload creation.
This new chapter acts as the second part of episode three,
where we'll learn what one of the victims we saw previously discovers:
Kevin, the player controlling the RED Sniper.
But before continuing, let's remember the most important events of the previous episode.
In the previous chapter, we witnessed what happened to Rayan, Mark, and Kevin,
three friends who entered the server believing it would be
just another game of Team Fortress 2. But inside, something was waiting for them.
One by one, they began to disappear. The Sniper and the Soldier died,
and only Rayan managed to log out. However, when he logged out of the game,
he discovered that his friends had also died in real life.
Shortly after, he began receiving messages from them
saying they felt cold and why it was so dark where they were.
Their souls, somehow, had been trapped inside the server,
corrupted by the same entity that had hunted them.
Ultimately, Rayan was the next victim,
closing a cycle that proved that, in this digital world, dying doesn't mean escaping.
That said, and recommending you watch the original video first,
let's see how the plot continues.
The new episode is titled "Into the Flame," and its description reads:
"Deep within the TF2 servers, something terrifying still lives...
In They Never Logged Out 3, Episode 2: Into the Flame,
Kevin discovers a new horror hidden behind corrupted memories: a secret cult,
the burning souls of lost players, and a truth that was never meant to be revealed."
The video begins by showing Kevin playing as a Sniper, shortly after the moment when,
as we saw in the previous episode, he and his friends agreed to shoot at any threat.
The Sniper had separated from the group to approach the center of the map,
where, through the scope of his rifle,
he sees a BLU Soldier in the distance... staring back at him while laughing eerily.
Kevin decides to head back and look for his friends.
Upon meeting Mark, who is playing with the Soldier, he tells him he thought he was gone.
In response, he receives only silence,
while the soldier looks at him with the same sinister smile as the BLU Soldier from before,
understanding that the person in front of him is not his friend Mark, but someone hostile.
As he moves away from him, we see that
the Killstreak reveals that the real Mark died at the hands of someone else.
We see the moment when Kevin is visited and transported to the enigmatic world of the
corrupted server, more specifically to an ethereal space within it.
There, a gigantic creature can be seen in the distance,
barely visible through the digital fog. Nearby, there is a television with signal interference,
with Kevin approaching... and that is when what
the video description announced begins to come true: corrupted memories begin to manifest before him,
possibly fragments of the memories of lost players.
The phrases that appear in rapid succession are the following.
These phrases seem to describe a process of consciousness transfer.
The line that says “identity transfer successful” indicates that a dead player’s mind
was copied, or rewritten, within the server, while “New host detected”
suggests that the system is searching for new digital bodies to house those lost consciousnesses.
The line that asks if they see colors reflects the mental confusion of those who
have been corrupted, trapped between reality and the code, and “he still
burns” implies that one of them remains conscious, suffering within the system.
This means that the server seems to recycle the souls of fallen players,
turning them into part of the environment itself,
where pain and identity blend until they lose all human form.
A brief clip of the BLU base is then shown, where four medics surround the
lifeless body of a mercenary. The exact context of what they are doing is not specified,
but reversed audio is heard, seemingly warning of something disturbing.
The fact that this is mentioned suggests that the doctors are sheltering from a
considerable threat, something that still remains off-screen.
Shortly after, a silhouette of one of these doctors appears, addressing Kevin directly,
telling him that he shouldn't have seen that.
However, another line sneaks in: "He saw what you saw."
The doctor goes on to explain that one of their own was burned, and that during the act, the other screamed
his name. He reveals that he never truly escaped the game, clarifying that no one can abandon it.
He tells Kevin that his body is gone, but that his code still remembers the blood,
and mentions that it now belongs to the listeners,
who built the field. The purple light that once contained them is now inside Kevin.
The doctor also warns him that something, possibly the enemy entity, is nearby.
He tells him that the Soldier failed, and that Rayan is still resisting, tasking him with finishing
the game. At this point, it is briefly revealed that Mark was never alive.
Finally, the doctor asks him not to look for them, that he's already one of them, and orders him
to log back in, assuring him that they're waiting for him in his respawn room.
When he reveals that "his body is gone, but his code still remembers the blood," he makes it clear
that Kevin has already been absorbed into the server, and what remains of him is only a digital consciousness.
The "listeners" are the players who have already lost their humanity, trapped between
memory and code, able to perceive the real world but unable to return.
Immediately afterward, the Sniper turns away from the television and notices a pack of
corrupted entities beginning to chase him.
He reacts as anyone would: he
desperately tries to escape toward a door that, in theory, should lead him to safety.
The exact context of this sequence is unknown,
but considering the video description again, it's possible that what he witnessed
is still part of the fragmented memories of other players trapped inside the corrupted server.
The scene then shifts to a Scout, the same one we saw at the end of Chapter 2,
whom they were attempting to interview after an expedition in which only he returned alive.
However, it is now revealed that this Scout had been corrupted. As the Pyro points
his gun at him, a roar from outside shakes the place, setting off alarms.
It is confirmed that this Scout is Rayan, the protagonist of the previous episode,
who has now been completely absorbed by the server's corruption.
While others fight, the Scout is visited by two strange entities.
The doctor asks him if he remembers the fire,
which was meant to burn his name. His body remembers the pain,
but his soul remembers him, and then it sort of absorbs his being.
At this point, the episode ends.
I won't deny it, this episode has been more confusing than expected,
especially given what the doctor did to Ryan at the end,
and what exactly it meant when Kevin was told to end the game.
Still, despite the questions it leaves, this episode manages to broaden the scope of the plot,
revealing the existence of a cult—one of the methods of transferring
human consciousness into corrupted mercenaries—and the presence of trapped,
but not necessarily hostile, players known as "the listeners." They are, as far as
I can understand, seeking a way to break the cycle and resolve the conflict.
It's highly likely that in a future episode we'll be able to better understand what's happening.
