I don't I don't think you and I ever
covered this because this came out when
we started doing the podcast this is old
news but somehow it's making the rounds
again uh so a couple weeks ago someone
um posted
uh let me see here let me grab it real quick

yeah so apparently uh uh George R Martin
they posted this this title George R
Martin delayed The Winds of Winter by
accidentally killing an important Game
of Thrones character have you heard
about this I have I have
so not long ago Diana I don't know if
you I don't know if you know this person
in his orbit Diana gabadlan author of
The Outlander series and a friend of
Martin revealed some interesting details
about a conversation she had with the
author over lunch in the conversation
Martin shared a problem he's been facing
while writing which has left fans
speculating about what this could mean
for the future of the franchise
apparently they had a problem where
George Goes I'm having all kinds of
trouble he said you ever killed somebody
off that you later realized you you knew
you needed and she's like no George
that's never happened to me and we
talked further and he said I just
painted myself into a corner
so this is from like five years ago yeah yeah
yeah
so a lot of people just I've I've heard
some people discussing on like who this
who this character could be but um
um
um but then there's a lot of issues of like
like
why is it painted into a character why
is it not why is it
not reversible so
so a lot of people say oh maybe he's
talking about Quentin that he killed Quentin
Quentin
um no did he kill them in the Winds of
Winter does he kill them in A Dance with
Dragons but like um
um
if he's talking about Quentin uh
uh
Quentin very clearly there's an out like
it's very clearly ambiguous on what
happens to Quentin so should he want to
reverse himself had he killed Quentin
and then wants to undo it there's no
reason he can't undo it it's so easy to
undo Quentin so it it's no way it's Quentin

um and then I'm trying to think of like
anybody else that like died in A Dance
with Dragons um
um
can you think of anybody that died to
Dance with Dragons uh I wanna say it
can't be it can't be uh may surprise cell
cell
um right because anybody else like Loris
like Loris we don't know what can undo
right isn't he just like badly burned
well and even yeah even that like you
can undo that I mean Giles rosby like
you know you could pick like but I
thought they said it was there was like
a major character
so like I don't know if he said major
character but like off the top of my
head uh so John is most likely dead
bring me the quote again he said he said

quote goes into detail so I'm thinking
of who it could be so who died in dance
and Dragons uh like major that's like
that's the thing if George doesn't
really kill people very much so this
whole like joke that George kills kills
character kills your favorite character
it's the dumbest Trope because it's just
like it's just not true like he doesn't
kill people that much
we're having a conversation I asked him
how's it going newest book and he said I
haven't always kind of troubles you ever
kill somebody off that you later realize
that you needed and I said No George has
never happened to me we talked further I
just and he said I just painted myself
into a corner
um so we don't know when the character
was killed and we don't know so we don't
know if the if he's talking about the
character being killed in wins or the
character being killed previously in
another book
um and
so I'm trying to think of like
characters who have died
definitively where you've panned
yourself into a corner okay

bad unless he's unless he's talking
about like it can't be one of the uh the
[ __ ] um the spear wives that go to
help out Theon because I know one again
ambiguous you know man's ambiguous
everybody see all these people are
ambiguous and he can just go back and
change it and rewrite it I mean um
um
the series I mean like how many Ned uh
there's so many Tywin
no no in order for like cersei's story
to advance Tywin can't be there because
he's kind of a roadblock to her makes
him so fundamental so like then the
character like why would you need a
character why would you need a character
and so like I could see
someone like Eamon because Eamon has a
lot of knowledge and a lot of
information and you kind of want that
knowledge and information but why can't
that be like
supplied by marwin or Gilly like I can't
think of a single thing that Eamon said
or did that like I could not switch to
marwin you know so it's just I don't
I want to say Kevin Lannister because I
feel like Kevin had a lot to offer in
King's Landing still to cersei's story
but at the same time it does make the
King's Landing pot a bit more chaotic
because is it one of the reasons why
Varys kills him is because he's he was
kind of like too good at his job at
being uh so so I I will say this
um I've been thinking so I've I've spent
a lot of time thinking about each of the
plots and um and
moving moving things forward and how um
and I will say that the King's Landing
plot was Cersei there is an interesting
little rub that I haven't quite figured
out how it work how it would work um
um
but after after Kevin dies um
um
they're supposed to have cersei's trial
pretty soon
however like
what Lannister is there to really take
control because Kevin kind of says like
no one's going to give power back to
Cersei and cersei's on trial
and so it seems like it would be nothing
but tyrell's running things
in King's Landing until I would say
Jenna Lannister would come to to arrive
as Regent okay so you you need you need
a Lannister Regent to come in
at some point right
right
um and but the problem is that like Jenna
Jenna
is at River Run
and that's going to take like a good two
weeks for her to get to King's Landing
to take over and I think it's real I
mean I think Jenna Lannister becoming
Regent is really interesting like really
interesting like idea because all of a
sudden that pits the crown favoring
um Emin Frey versus other phrase and
like the phrase Civil War and like what
they want because remember like it's us
all established in Feast what Jenna
Lannister wants with regards to Dairy
and everything you know
um and how she's upset and the fact that
like she is going to probably become Regent
Regent
um because Cersei can't be Regent
Tyrion can't be Regent Jamie's missing
Kevin's dad tywin's dad who like Ty you
know Ty gets dead tyraq is missing
garions missing you know like the only
the onlybody left the only person that's
left is Jenna Lannister
what about Davin Lannister
so then we're good that's the other so
that's like on the other side so that's
Joanna Lannister's like like side right
so so on Joanna's side we've got uh
Davin Lannister who is like the son of
Joanna's brother Stafford and
and um
um
so you get these other Lannisters like
Damon Lannister and stuff like that
but varicastly Rock and that still takes
like a good two or three weeks to get to
King's Landing um
um so
I think I mean I don't know if this is
this is the case because obviously
there's there's literally 2 000
characters in in ice and fire but I will
I will say that I think you're right
that like Kevin killing Kevin creates a
lot of problems narratively speaking
because how do you go forward with
cersei's trial without a Lannister there
and Jenna is weeks away
so yeah um
um
I mean I'm not saying that that's the
answer but it could be the answer
who else died and and Dancer dragons
that would have a huge impact on the
not one of the free kids in the in in
Winterfell like what are they gonna do
he's sitting there lamenting the story
because big Walder because Little Walter
it's like [ __ ] [ __ ] I killed I killed
Amy's Fray damn it damn it
no breaker rigor free okay pull him out
of the pie no no Amy's friend is
definitely dead but like little Walder
Frey he's like I needed little older
phrase key he's key to everything um
um
no I I think I think so my yeah my vote
theory is not my my theory is that it's
Kevin Lannister that you create you
create a real political [ __ ] in
King's Landing because they're
specifically like oh yeah the the trial
needs to happen
but you're gonna you're gonna you're not
gonna put a Lannister on trial without a
Lannister in King's Landing
the only one the only laddison that's in
and lancel's not gonna be Regent
Regent
It's gotta be Jenna
are you forming your ideas now for the
fanfic as we speak I mean this is
something I've been sort of thinking
about but
um I don't yeah I mean it's something
because I've I've been delaying the the
Cersei thing the Cersei chapter because
it's trying to hard trying to figure out
like who's running things
um in the fanfic we put that like oh man
mace tyrella's hand is like running
things but obviously the Lannisters are
going to be upset about that they need
to send somebody to be
to be Regent and um
the uh it's got yeah the only the only person
person
you could pick some dude you could pick
some random Lannister from Castle Rock
or you could pick Jenna Lannister but no
matter who you pick
they're they're too far away and um
um
the only Lannister that's there
that could be that could
that could be recent as Lancel who's
nutso and a little young
right so
yeah that's it
you know I think we figured it out it's
[ __ ] it's Kevin [Music]

uh I uh I really liked uh Jenna in her
interactions with Jamie
I really I really when she um when she
says uh uh was the thing she said about
bacteria it was really tywin's son yeah
it's a um it's a great quote the Gen the
Jenna the Jenna Jamie interaction is
and I don't even know what it is but
like and maybe I'm just I'm also like
projecting of the way Roy Detroit's kind
of read it but it's one of the few
situations where you actually have that
kind of family feeling you know like
he's talking to his aunt and like
they're cruel with each other they love
each other
you know
as family will do and they kind of have
that kind of like um
um interaction
interaction
um you know like warm but cruel and you
just don't get that like even in the
scenes between you know in the very
beginning of Game of Thrones with with
Tyrion Jimmy and Cersei you don't kind
of get that you certainly don't get it
with any Tywin scene you certainly don't
get it with even the Kevin scenes like
between Cersei and Kevin are so like
cold and distant you know the cousin
scenes between like Jamie and and and
and Lancel are weird it's the only it's
the only interaction where it really
feels like family talking to each other
you know by the way the quote is uh you
smile like jiren you fight like TIG and
there's some of Kevin in you else wise
you would not wear the else you would
not wear the cloak but Tyrion is tywin's
son not you I [ __ ] love that so yeah
I kind of agree with you in fact if I
would say I would love to see gemma's
interactions with Cersei
yeah absolutely absolutely especially
because they're both women and like how
they're how they're approaching the
patriarchy and like how they how they're
maneuvering through it because it's not
like Jenna's
um it's not like Jen is the submissive
character you know uh but she's you know
she's handling things differently than
Cersei you know so
um but yeah
you know I mean it's certainly in the
fanfic Jenna's Jenna's region it's just
too it's too [ __ ] interesting it's
too [ __ ] interesting not to have Jen
as we as Regent
so I think it's um
so but yeah I do think that uh George
[ __ ] up George [ __ ] up with by
killing Kevin
um too soon or something or he needed to
well he can he he can recoup it if he
like puts Jenna down there or at least
Devin some some other words he could
I mean he needs to delay he needs to
delay cersei's trial but at the same time
time um
um
that's gonna affect like John
connington's March it's going to affect
the mercy chapter that he's already
written where like cersei's been
reinstated uh and then you know sending
people off to to the bank of braavos and
stuff like that
um like Swift and stuff and such like
there's a lot of like moving pieces that
get disrupted by the fact that like you
need to have Jenna in King's Landing now
now you know
by the way you were mentioning earlier
how he made some characters death
ambiguous on that note someone asked a
great question uh do any of you guys
think George might try to end wins on an
ambiguous note like maybe in the way
that could it be seen as an ending
acknowledging the fact that we'll
probably never see dream hmm
I mean I guess I guess there's a chance
of that it's um
but it's also is how delusional is
George about his own mortality
and stuff like that I always hate having
this conversation because like it is
kind of like douchey to have about this
this man being this old and but at the
same time it is like you do have to yeah he
he
yeah it's not he's not Brian Sanderson
in terms of health
um but uh Brandon centers yeah is it
Brandon Sanderson I'm sorry Brandon
Sanderson sorry confusing it because
it's Brian Brian Herbert I think you're
uh but no uh the person who said this
yeah I could see George kind of doing
that but there's so many stories he has
to wrap up I don't think that's possible
I I still you said this years ago and I
still agree with it there's no way he
could end it in dream there's gonna have
to be one more
there's no way he could end it and dream [Laughter]

I think some people could end it I think
some people have the talent to do that
but I don't think he can I think he's
created too many stories he's he's never
he has not yet have shown the ability to
