0:06 dream M3 only problem is they're super

0:09 $150,000 and I don't have that kind of
0:13 money yet so I decided to make my own M3
0:15 CSL at home in my garage for a fraction
0:17 of the price by starting with a used
0:20 regular M3 and after days of hard work
0:22 and a couple heart attacks well we've
0:24 got all the maintenance handled and
0:26 we've got some suspension and handling
0:28 stuff handled then we went to the dyno
0:43 horsepower uh yeah so today we're going
0:45 to improve on that by installing a new
0:48 intake a new tune and a new exhaust
0:49 we're also going to finish up the
0:52 aesthetic upgrades on this car and get
0:55 this thing completed as my version of a
0:57 CSL then we'll go back to the dyno and
0:58 make sure that we're making more power

1:04 all right the first thing we're going to
1:07 do is install that beautiful new intake
1:09 which means I need to remove the ugly
1:10 old intake now we got to take off the strut
1:17 brace now disconnect them M take out the
1:22 housing okay now we'll take some of this

2:09 fun all right after just a few minutes
2:11 popping off some hose clamps this should
2:21 not oh I played the curve Perfect all
2:23 right this is our stock air box nothing
2:25 special this is what came on the M3 the
2:27 regular one we're going to be replacing
2:29 it with something much nicer this is
2:32 turn Sports CSL replica carbon fiber
2:35 intake uh it looks a lot like the intake
2:37 that came on the CSL the carbon fiber
2:39 unit which flows better than the factory
2:41 airbox for more power this flows 20%
2:43 more than the stock airbox and it even
2:45 flows more than the original CSL intake
2:48 more flow more air more power it also
2:50 looks pretty good and it's going to
2:52 sound really good this is going to free
2:54 up a lot of sound from the itbs which is
2:56 very exciting the other thing that this
2:59 intake does is removes the use of a MAF
3:01 sensor so we'll no longer be using mass
3:03 airf flow sensor we're going to be using
3:05 a map sensor and uh what's called an
3:09 alpha end tune so we got to tune this
3:11 thing which will also let us make more
3:12 power all right let's quit talking and start

6:53 exhaust off and valonic sent Joby a uh
6:57 exhaust for his E46 and it's always nice

7:06 yeah okay so what we have here is a
7:09 stainless steel setup now valve tronic
7:11 is they got their name because there's a
7:13 valve in there you can go full race car
7:15 setting and open it up so it sounds
7:17 pretty sick or you can be a little bit
7:19 more reasonable and close the valve and
7:22 it uh diverts some of the exhaust all
7:24 this is is just a little air pump so you
7:28 put rubber hose on one side of it and
7:31 then the hose run runs to the valve here
7:32 hit the
7:36 button boom valve in there opens
7:45 closes Nifty so that works that's very
7:47 cool and very good now I need to go
7:50 install it with just two exhaust hangers
7:52 going to sound so good job you're going
7:56 to crumb I think I will look B okay well
8:05 okay we'll clean that up replace that
8:08 little bucket there and uh put a couple
8:18 Rod all right that'll give me a little more

8:23 room hey look at that thing that's not a
8:26 factory it's pretty nice let's clean it
8:29 up replace that wonky bushing
8:33 tighten things up a bit Yeah suers loose
8:35 this is the shift carrier so this is
8:37 where the shifter actually mounts to so
8:39 the ball goes right in here you shift
8:41 here and then down here is your selector
8:43 Rod which goes from the bottom of the
8:46 shifter over to the transmission so the
8:48 one that was in the car is a single
8:50 Shear basically it has a bar with two
8:52 pins that stick off either side that
8:55 connect the shifter to the transmission
8:57 we're going with Turner's dual Shear
8:59 shift selector Rod so basically it is
9:02 like a tuning fork on either side takes
9:04 away a lot of slop tightens the feel up
9:05 and uh looks nice [Music]
9:19 too give it just a little bit of Grease [Music]
9:46 all right after a hardfought battle with
9:48 the shifter bits all the installs
9:50 complete and the shifter feels great all
9:52 the play has been removed and I'm
9:55 excited to row through these gears so I
9:56 got to finish buttoning this up throw
9:58 the shift boot back on and then we're
10:02 done here move on to some aesthetic bits

10:48 you know one of my fatal flaws is trying

10:59 get the exhaust and drive shaft out but
11:01 that probably cost me 3 hours leaving

11:18 noname carbon fiber front lip from eBay
11:20 um was kind of Unsure how it would fit
11:21 and honestly overall it's pretty good
11:23 just got to file down a little bit of
11:25 these things are a little too big better

11:29 a little off so all in all pretty happy
11:29 with it
11:31 uh these are kind of tough to find so
11:42 it all right that was quick and easy I'd
11:44 say overall the fitment is pretty good
11:47 it's not quite perfect in here and out

14:22 to switch the stock trunk out with the
14:24 CSL trunk that I got it's freshly

18:13 this little area in the trunk here this
18:24 reinflates thing down uh using this
18:27 velcro strap that used to strap down
18:29 Tire thingy and I've also got my remote
18:31 wire to the amp running right here so
18:33 that's nice key on power that I'll be
18:35 able to pull from for this we'll ground
18:37 over here run the vacuum line out and
18:45 cake all right with the wiring and the
18:47 vacuum stuff done we can put the icing

20:18 trunk uh wet sanded and buffed it's got

20:21 moment so I'm going to wait to put those
20:24 on until I have that done so now with
20:25 that done I'm going to move into the
20:27 cockpit and we're going to put a tune on
20:29 this thing okay for the tune I hit up
20:31 the guys over at arcade tunes and uh
20:34 Jordan sent me over a tune for the car
20:35 and the mods that I've done to it
20:38 including the intake and the exhaust uh
20:41 so it should be pretty simple to install
20:42 they sent a cable and there's some
20:45 software that I downloaded uh so I'll
20:47 pretty much just pop the file on and
20:49 we'll be good should just take a couple
20:51 minutes okay the car's on the dyno coach
20:52 is in the driver's seat so here's the
20:54 plan first we're going to do two runs
20:56 with the exhaust valves closed see how
20:58 much power we make then we'll open the
21:00 exhaust valves and see how much power we
21:02 make I'm guessing there'll probably be
21:04 like a 15ish horsepower difference
21:06 between valves closed and open and I'm
21:10 hoping we make around 260 all said and
21:13 done actually I have no hopes anything's fine

21:40 big difference because we actually lost
21:42 horsepower overall with the valve closed
21:45 it's only making 225 horsepower now I

21:52 quickly so it's not great for flow it
21:54 just quiets it down so I hope valve open

23:43 that uh we didn't make the horsepower

23:48 therapist says that I need to address my
23:50 failures and not move the goalpost to
23:53 make everything a success and uh I think
23:55 that's true so really has me thinking
23:58 about whether or not my original goals
24:01 were good goals you know uh horsepower
24:04 CSL I mean well intentioned and all but
24:06 is that what really matters I'm not sure
24:09 I think I think there might be something
24:10 more intangible you know that we're
24:13 really after so I think we got to get
24:16 out of the the dirty dinno dungeon and
24:18 out into the sunlight and see if this

26:02 horsepower wouldn't make a difference at
26:05 all so I'm pretty happy with how things
