0:02 In today's video, I have a brand new
0:04 technique to teach you that will surely
0:07 change the way you approach your future
0:10 artwork. I'll show you how to combine a
0:13 few easy to get art supplies to create a
0:16 magical piece of art. So, sit back,
0:19 relax, my friend. We're about to make a
0:22 beautiful fantasy crushed crystal mirror.
0:38 Hello, my friend. Welcome back to
0:40 another video. So, what you're looking
0:43 at right here is a mirror that I bought
0:46 at Hobby Lobby. They always have their
0:48 mirrors marked 50% off. So, I got a
0:52 beautiful 18-in mirror with a beautiful
0:55 gold frame for 20 bucks, which I think
0:58 is a steal, to be honest. So, I've been
1:01 wanting to make a fantasy film and
1:04 crushed crystal project, and this is
1:08 going to work perfect for it. What I'm
1:10 going to do first is I'm going to get
1:12 out a chalk marker. a chalk marker, as
1:16 you know, you can wipe away right off of
1:17 a surface with a little damp paper
1:21 towel. So, my idea was to create this
1:24 mirror that had a border of beautiful
1:28 crushed crystals, uh, crushed glass,
1:30 some rhinestones,
1:34 and have a color shift effect to it. So,
1:38 the first thing I did was drew out um
1:43 almost like a center of an AGOT design
1:47 in the middle of this tracing that I'm
1:50 doing. We're going to leave that alone.
1:52 That's going to be the visible mirror at
1:55 the end. Of course, you can do whatever
1:58 kind of design you want. Uh you could do
2:01 just a small area on the edge. I wanted
2:04 a big beautiful sparkling mirror. So I
2:08 decided to go with this kind of design.
2:12 So once I put this marking down to
2:15 create the area of where I was going to
2:21 work, I pulled out some fantasy film or
2:25 Angelina film some call it. This is a
2:30 very fine film that is chameleon.
2:33 Uh it has a chameleon effect to it. So
2:37 it shifts from green like a hunter green
2:41 to a rose goldish copper color. It's
2:43 really really pretty and it comes in
2:45 different colors. Like that was just
2:48 mother of pearl that I showed you. And
2:49 coming up next week I'm going to show
2:51 you how you could turn this paper into
2:54 this design here. and we'll make
2:56 something fun with that. But anyway,
3:00 moving on. I wanted to put this on the
3:03 surface before I laid down my crystals
3:07 because I wanted to have my crystals
3:10 color shift. So, crystals are clear, as
3:14 you know, crushed glass is clear. Uh any
3:17 of the the sparkling things that we use
3:20 for geodess, they're usually clear.
3:23 you'll be able to see this underneath
3:25 them and it will reflect up through them
3:28 and create an amazing effect. Wait till
3:31 you see how beautiful this is. But
3:34 anyhow, what I did was I just kind of
3:37 laid it on the mirror and traced that
3:41 line that I had made, that outline, and
3:45 cut it so it fit in those areas on the
3:48 outside. It doesn't even need to be this
3:50 complicated. You could just cut pieces
3:53 of this and have it, you know, like
3:55 little squares or whatever and put it in
3:57 those areas. In the end, you're going to
4:00 see that I had a few open areas on the
4:03 mirror that I didn't cover. And that's
4:05 fine. It just adds to the effect. So,
4:07 the way I'm going to attach this
4:10 temporarily to hold it down so I could
4:13 work on it is to you use my UV resin.
4:16 You could also use something like glue.
4:18 This is just a temporary way to hold it
4:21 down until we get to the next step. So,
4:24 I took a little bit of my UV resin and I
4:27 just basted it onto the back of the
4:30 paper, the film, sorry. And then I laid
4:32 it on the mirror's surface and you
4:37 hovered my UV light over it until it was
4:39 set, which was about 30 seconds. And
4:42 that made it stick to that surface.
4:44 Again, we're going to be putting
4:47 crystals on top of this film. So, we're
4:50 just trying to get it to lay flat until
4:52 we have the weight of those on top of
4:55 it. So, I just put it down there after
5:00 pasting that uh UV resin on the surface
5:03 and hovered my light, as I said, for
5:05 about 30 seconds. It didn't take long at
5:08 all cuz it's just a very thin layer that
5:11 you're putting on that piece of film. So
5:13 now you're going to see it's attached
5:16 there. And I'm just going to do that in
5:19 a few areas of the film just to hold it
5:23 down flat so that I can get to the next
5:27 step. As I said, I have a link for you
5:29 in the description if you want to buy
5:32 this film. Believe it or not, it's
5:34 pretty inexpensive. It was for me when I
5:38 bought it anyway. And um yeah, I'm going
5:40 to show you next week how to do a
5:42 different technique with it that is
5:44 absolutely phenomenal. It is so
5:47 beautiful. It includes, you know, uh
5:50 using a heat gun to shrink this stuff
5:54 and turn it into just something
5:57 out of this world. It's so beautiful.
6:00 You guys know me. I love my sparkle and
6:04 I love my color shift. Anything that
6:07 creates that illusion for me makes me
6:11 happy. So, I'm going to continue to just
6:15 paste some UV resin on the back of this
6:19 film, put it down on the mirror, and get
6:21 it secured for now until we can move on
6:23 to the next step. I'm not going to show
6:26 you the entire uh mirror because it's
6:29 just the same thing over and over again.
6:31 Again though, if you want to use
6:33 something simple like some clear glue,
6:35 you can do that. You don't have to use
6:39 the UV resin. I just want results that
6:41 are instant. I don't want to have to
6:43 wait for things to dry. That's why I use
6:50 So, here it is. I have the whole outer
6:54 edge covered in the fantasy film. And
6:56 I'm going to now
7:00 go with a uh I'm going to take a Pebbio
7:05 fine liner uh CERN relief. Sorry.
7:07 You could also use gold acrylic paint to
7:09 do this if it's thick enough. I'm going
7:11 to take this outliner and I'm going to
7:15 outline the original chalk line that I
7:18 made. That's going to be my border. So,
7:21 I accidentally started and didn't hit
7:23 record. I apologize, but I'm just
7:24 showing you right now. I'm going over it
7:27 again. I did two layers of this stuff.
7:30 Just trace over the line. Very self-explanatory.
7:32 self-explanatory.
7:34 You're going to make just a little
7:37 barrier to contain your crystals to the
7:40 outer edge of the mirror. You don't want
7:42 them going to the inner area of the
7:44 mirror because that's where you want to
7:46 be able to look into the mirror and see
7:49 your beautiful face, right? So, we just
7:52 want a border to contain our crystals.
7:55 And I used the CERN relief to do that.
7:58 As you can see here,
8:00 this stuff dries pretty quick. I think
8:02 it took an hour and it was ready to go.
8:06 So, now I have some beautiful iridescent
8:10 pebbles I found at Hobby Lobby. Uh they
8:13 were five bucks a bag. I have some uh
8:15 larger size iridescent glass pebbles.
8:18 I'm going to show you. See, these are
8:20 bigger. These are like micro. The ones
8:23 in the bag are like a micro pebble. So,
8:25 I'm going to use both of those. I'm also
8:29 going to use some crushed glass. I have
8:33 some vase fillers from uh Michaels. That
8:37 is just like a little clear like chip of
8:40 glass. I think it's actually acrylic. I
8:41 don't think it's glass, but it looks
8:44 like it. And then I have these little uh
8:47 rhinestones. not rhinestones, little
8:50 acrylic diamonds that I got from Hobby
8:54 Lobby. I have diamond dust, which I'm
8:56 going to save to the end. You're going
8:59 to see I'll explain how to use this. And
9:02 then I also have a beautiful glitter
9:04 that I'm going to use at the end. I'm
9:08 not using that in this cup. So, the last
9:10 two things I showed you do not go in
9:13 this cup. Get a cup and make yourself a
9:16 brew of beautiful sparkling things. I
9:17 don't care what you have. As long as
9:21 they are clear like these crushed glass
9:24 and pebbles,
9:26 they will work. So, I'm just filling
9:29 those products up into the glass minus
9:33 the diamond dust and the glitter. And
9:38 I'm going to combine them into a Ziploc
9:41 bag just to mix them around.
9:43 because I filled the cup up obviously
9:45 too much. But look at this beautiful
9:48 parfait of sparkle. Huh? Isn't that
9:50 beautiful? So again, I just dumped them
9:54 in a ziploc bag just to mix them around
9:57 and then I poured half of the amount
10:00 into the cup because I just put too much
10:02 into that cup to work with it. But
10:05 anyway, so I filled the cup up halfway
10:10 and then what I did was I cleaned up all
10:13 the white chalk marks so that they're,
10:16 you know, not seen. You're not going to
10:18 see them anyway, even if you forget to
10:20 do this step because the crystals are
10:22 going to cover them. But I wanted to
10:25 make sure that I got as many as I could
10:28 off of there. And then I pulled out my
10:31 other resin. Now, there's a difference.
10:36 I used UV resin to tack down the paper.
10:40 That is an instant set resin. Now, I'm
10:43 using an art resin, which will take 24
10:48 hours to cure. So, I get out two cups.
10:50 When you use an art resin, usually it's
10:53 a two-part resin, which means you have a
10:57 part A and you have a part B, and you
11:00 need to use the same amount of both
11:04 bottles. Now, I don't have cups with
11:06 measurements on them, so I just use the
11:09 lines on this these plastic cups to do
11:12 the measuring for me. So, in each cup, I
11:16 filled up to the third line on the cup.
11:20 Part A, which is the resin, and part B,
11:24 which is the hardener. I combined the
11:29 part A into the part B, and I mixed them
11:31 together for 3 minutes. It's pretty
11:34 straightforward to use this stuff. Make
11:36 sure you have a mask and you're in a
11:39 well ventilated area when you do use it.
11:43 You can do this step with the UV resin
11:46 as long as you have enough UV resin. I
11:48 did not have enough UV resin, so I had
11:52 to switch over to my regular resin.
11:55 Now, you may say, why do you add part A
11:59 into part B? That is because part A is
12:01 the resin and it's much thicker than
12:04 part B, which is the hardener. So when
12:08 you go to mix them together, if you pour
12:11 the A into part B, you'll have an easier
12:14 time getting it off the sides and bottom
12:16 of the cup.
12:19 It's not impossible to mix the other way
12:21 around. It's just easier this way. So
12:23 what you want to do is just mix the two
12:26 together for 3 to 5 minutes. And you
12:28 want to make sure you scrape down the
12:31 sides of the cup and scrape off the
12:35 stick multiple times throughout the
12:38 mixing process throughout that 3
12:41 minutes. This way, any unmixed hardener
12:44 and or resin will be thoroughly
12:47 incorporated, and you'll be able to have
12:51 a nice solid hard resin finish when the
12:55 the project is complete.
12:57 Once it's cured, I mean, it'll be a nice
12:59 strong finish. You'll have no weak
13:03 spots. So, what I usually do when I mix
13:06 up a large amount of resin is I'll mix
13:08 it in the original cup and then I'll
13:11 dump it into a clean cup to make sure
13:14 that I have not missed any unmixed
13:16 areas. I want to just make sure it's
13:18 really, really mixed. Well, that's the
13:20 one thing you have to remember about
13:23 this stuff. But anyway, as I was saying,
13:26 you can use UV resin to do this part
13:28 right here. It's just that you're going
13:31 to have to have enough and I did not.
13:35 So, what I did was I poured some of that
13:37 resin just over the surface of the
13:40 crystals and started mixing it in. You
13:43 want to just coat them in it. You don't
13:45 want them floating in it. You just want
13:49 them to be sticky essentially. So, I
13:52 start with just covering the surface of
13:55 whatever's in the cup. And if it's not
13:58 enough, then I'll add a little bit more.
14:02 But it was enough. So now I took my
14:05 crystals and I filled in that entire
14:09 outer edge with this mixture. Be careful
14:12 when you do this. You don't want to
14:14 accidentally fling one of those crystals
14:16 onto the mirror surface that you're
14:19 going to be seeing your beautiful self
14:21 in. You want to make sure that stays
14:24 nice and clean. So, what I found to be
14:27 very helpful was I put the crystals down
14:30 closer to the rim of the mirror and
14:33 pushed them outwards towards that gold
14:36 outliner. This way, you know, I wasn't
14:39 throwing a big pile of these things
14:42 right up next to that border, taking the
14:44 the chance of them flying onto the
14:46 mirror area where I don't want them.
14:50 Okay. So once you fill in that entire
14:52 border, then you're going to come in
14:55 with the two products that we didn't add
14:57 into the cup and you're going to
15:01 sprinkle them on top. And here is why
15:05 you want to obtain, sorry, the maximum
15:08 amount of sparkle. If you add the
15:11 diamond dust into the resin mixture
15:14 that's in the cup, the crystal mixture,
15:16 I mean, the resin is going to coat it
15:19 and it's so fine you're barely going to
15:22 see it, if at all. If you just sprinkle
15:25 these two things on top of the wet
15:29 crystals in the end, you're going to get
15:32 so much sparkle out of this. So much
15:35 more sparkle. So, I saved a little bit
15:39 of those little clear uh diamonds
15:43 from Amazon, some of the glitter, and
15:46 the diamond dust, and just sprinkled
15:50 them on top very lightly. I find the
15:54 less you use, the more it sparkles. It's
15:56 really weird. You would think it would
15:59 be the opposite, but when it comes to to
16:00 something like this diamond dust and
16:04 glitter, just a very light dusting over
16:08 the entire surface will provide maximum
16:11 sparkle. I promise. So, we're going to
16:15 sprinkle these all around the border.
16:19 We're going to let it cure overnight.
16:21 When I come back, I'm going to clean off
16:25 the mirror surface and you're going to
16:29 see just how beautiful this is. I am in
16:34 love. I cannot believe the vision I was
16:36 seeing on my kitchen table when I was
16:39 done with this. It was glorious. By the
16:42 way, how to hang. It comes with its own
16:44 hanger, so we don't have to worry about
16:47 it. So, here we go. I took it outside,
16:50 but it was so sunny that I couldn't even
16:54 see where I was filming. I It was just a
16:56 nightmare. So, I left this little bit in
17:00 here for you to see. Um, it's very hard
17:02 to see the fantasy film out there. It's
17:05 just It was way too bright. Once we get
17:08 in the house, I will show you how that
17:11 fantasy film looks underneath. But this
17:14 is so beautiful. If you went to buy
17:16 something like a crushed crystal mirror
17:19 online or at a store, you'd be paying at
17:21 least $150.
17:23 And this is custom. We could design it
17:26 the way we want. And here we go. Now I'm
17:30 inside. Look at this beautiful rose gold
17:34 copperish hunter green underneath color
17:36 shifting. I wish you could see it in
17:39 person because it's even a 100 times
17:42 better. It's absolutely breathtaking.
17:44 breathtaking.
17:46 I really hope you run out and get
17:50 yourself a dollar a dollar a $20 mirror
17:52 and uh really try to do something like
17:54 this. Again, I'll put the links in the
17:56 description for you. I still have to go
17:59 in and clean the mirror surface, which
18:01 you know I didn't do at this point yet.
18:03 There's still a little chalk marker line
18:06 I got to get rid of. And yeah, I was
18:08 just excited to show you how beautiful
18:10 this is. again,
18:11 again,
18:14 please try it. Even if you do just a
18:16 small little mirror, as long as you can
18:19 find one with a rim, it will definitely
18:23 work. So again, my friends, very easy
18:25 project to complete. I'm going to put
18:28 all the links down in the description. I
18:30 want to thank you so so very much for
18:33 joining me today. And until next Sunday,
18:36 3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, happy creating.
