0:04 soon that's drunk
0:06 one of the really cool things about how
0:08 the gaming industry has evolved over the
0:10 years is that we're now at the point
0:11 where gaming is a family thing parents
0:13 play video games with their kids all the
0:15 time now but in the 80s and 90s when I
0:17 was growing up that was not the case my
0:19 dad had zero interest in anything gaming
0:21 related my mom to her credit did give it
0:23 the old College Try by getting Family
0:26 Feud for SNES she played it like twice
0:28 but there were still other parents I
0:30 knew of that played video games sort of
0:32 barely one other family on our block had
0:34 a Super Nintendo I remember they had a
0:36 few good games but the dad only played
0:38 Pebble Beach true golf Classics my
0:40 friend's dad had a Game Boy but he only
0:42 had Tetris and golf he said that was all
0:44 he needed because he only played Game
0:45 Boy when he was on the toilet and that
0:48 brings me to side pocket which was just
0:49 added to the Nintendo switch online
0:52 service about a week ago side pocket is
0:54 a dad game it's pool that's all it is
0:56 and we might be in a bit of trouble if
0:57 Nintendo is already down to adding dad
1:00 games to their online service next we're
1:01 gonna see stuff like super Caesar's
1:03 Palace on there so let's go over the the
1:05 game itself in case you're interested
1:06 you start it up an immediately you're
1:08 greeted by one of the women from Wilson
1:10 Phillips gotta hold on one more day for
1:12 those giant hoop earrings I guess
1:14 there's a few different game modes the
1:16 single player campaign has you earning
1:18 points with each ball you pocket and you
1:19 have to pass a certain points threshold
1:22 to advance to the next table you earn
1:23 points by pocketing balls either in
1:25 order by number or just consecutively
1:27 regardless of the number you can see
1:29 which number is which by pressing the Y
1:32 button there's also a two-player Pocket
1:34 game it goes five rounds and the player
1:36 with the most points wins although if
1:37 you miss three shots in a row at any
1:40 point you lose there's a two-player nine
1:42 ball game where you can go best of three
1:45 best of seven or best of 15. Bear in
1:46 mind however in nine ball you gotta hit
1:48 the lower numbered ball that's still on
1:49 the table before hitting any other ball
1:52 and there's also a trick shot mode which
1:54 I actually kind of appreciate because it
1:55 functions as a reward for spending time
1:57 with this game there's 19 different
1:59 trick shot scenarios but in order to
2:01 consider a shot completed you have to
2:03 pocket every ball on the table in one
2:06 shot the controls are very simple the B
2:07 button regulates the power of your shot
2:09 and you can change the spin with the Y
2:11 button while using the d-pad to move
2:13 your Q placement around you can also use
2:16 the l r buttons to fine tune your aim
2:17 which is nice and you can even pop up
2:19 the cue ball if you need to get around
2:22 another ball in your way and uh yeah
2:24 that's pretty much the game I will say
2:26 at least this game does have some pretty
2:33 foreign [Music]
2:42 I should mention that side pocket was
2:44 originally an arcade game made by Data
2:46 East all the way back in 1986 it got
2:48 ports to the NES and Game Boy before
2:50 getting a bit of a facelift when it was
2:52 released for Sega Genesis Game Gear and
2:54 Super Nintendo and for what it's worth
2:56 it also received a Wonder Swan Port so
2:58 hooray for that but yeah that's all
3:00 there really is to say about this one
3:02 side pocket is a total dad game I'm
3:04 willing to bet that if you somehow owned
3:06 this cartridge as a kid your dad or
3:07 parent or guardian or whoever would play
3:09 this like twice a year for a combined 20
3:11 minutes while the rest of the time it
3:12 sat there Gathering dust that doesn't
3:14 mean it's a bad game the physics here
3:16 are actually pretty good and reliably
3:17 consistent and they did get the music
3:19 right which is absolutely crucial in
3:21 games like this but ultimately you're
3:23 playing pool on a 16-bit system so if
3:25 you're into that then here you go [Music]
3:26 [Music]
3:27 all right I want to thank you for
3:29 watching and I hope you have a great
3:30 rest of your day [Music]
