Hombale Films has rapidly become a dominant force in the Indian film industry within a decade by strategically investing in pan-Indian content, prioritizing quality and authenticity, and balancing high-budget spectacles with compelling mid-budget narratives.
Hello everyone and welcome to Pombali Films,
before talking about it, I want to say one thing. Do
you know how much Bhaiya Kantara's first week worldwide collections were? 509 crores. It will
touch 600 crores this weekend
. The top four of the top five highest
grossing Kannada films
are Hombale. They also have five films in the top 10
. Also in Telugu,
there is a movie called Salar with 700 plus crores. After this,
there is also a three-movie deal with Prabhas. There is a movie with Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan
. There is also KGF Chapter 3
. They are also the ones who presented the highest-grossing Indian
animated film, Maha Avatar Narasimha
. Do you
know how long it took them to complete such a hugely successful journey? It was only 10 years
. Who are these people? How are they able to achieve collections that stun the
Indian film industry every time in such a short time?
What is their strategy? What are their three goals?
Let's talk about how risky the model they are following is in today's video
. Hombale Films is a
production house started by Vijay Kiragandur and
Chaluvey Gowda. Okay, you might ask, why are we talking about Hombali
in particular when there are so many producers in India
? Because
these successful films in their filmography are
not just banner successes, they have made the
entire film industry in India
look towards Kannada films for a moment. In a way,
Hubale's journey can be
said to be a case study in the passion, risk-taking, clarity, and strategy that a production house needs. First,
what was the point of spending so much money on KGF in a Kannada industry that doesn't have a proper market?
To answer this question, we have to mention the first of their three goals
. Makepan Indian Kannada
Films entered the industry
with the approach of taking the Kannada industry to the next level
. That's why the first film was
n't something simple, but a
movie called Ninnindale with Puneeth. It was the
first Kannada movie to be shot in the United States for 35 days
. Now, you have to understand
what kind of mindset they
entered with. Even though the first film
didn't work that well, the third film
made the entire Rajakumara industry feel like it. It was such a huge
success that it was the highest-grossing movie in the Kannada film industry up to that point,
and the real revolution began from there
. That's KGF Chapter One, the
turning point for the Kannada film
industry, actually KGF narration.
Just then, Neel uncle said that this subject requires a lot of
budget and it's not feasible to make it,
but Vijay did
n't listen and said, "Let's do it." I
told you that Rajkumar is the highest-collecting Kannada film, but the budget needed to
produce KGF is higher than the collections of that movie
. 80
crores, 80 crores,
no one had ever invested that much budget in Kannada until then. I have
never seen or heard of such collections after the budget. So
starting KGF was not
only risky, but Hombale did not back down
. The movie was produced.
Hombale and Prashanth Nil decided that
the only thing they could do was to make the whole Indian cinema so that the
audience would turn their eyes towards Kannada
cinema. This is how they became mentally fixed .
.
Do you know what their belief is to take such a crazy risk? Content
plus scale plus emotion equals
universal appeal. This is their success
strategy. And they are
still following this strategy. Now
SS Rajamoula enters the scene. He
encouraged the KGF team to release the first part of KGF, an eight-minute show reel, and then did a Telugu release
with Sai Korrapati of Varahi Productions. Thus, KGF was released in Kannada
as well as Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi
. Those dialogues and BGM
gave goosebumps to the audience in Elevations theaters. The film has collected nearly 250
crores. Thus, the Hombale
people achieved their first goal of making a Kannada pan-India film
. Here, we should
talk about the Hombales production values in the case of KGF. They don't
treat KGF like a Kannada movie.
From shooting to release, the
plan was made with a pan-India mindset.
It is very important for every audience to take a film seriously. The
Hombale people never give up on this matter.
Later, there was a lot of hype for KJF 2 as well .
.
That movie collected 1200 plus crores. This time, the
whole of India was shocked by those numbers.
Because crossing 1000 crores at that time was
not that easy. Until then,
Dangal and Baahubali 2 had crossed these movies
. Among them, the movie Dangal also
crossed the 1000 crore mark with its China release after 3 months. So, the 1000
crore mark is a very rare feat. For a
single Kannada film to cross that mark is the
biggest achievement for
them. Hombali proved one thing with these KGF films .
.
Especially Neil Mama, who
said that a pan-India film is not just about the budget, but also about vision and execution, is very important. Next Face Usually, many
production houses,
after blockbusters like KGF, mostly try to repeat the same style and formula
formula
. But Hombale didn't do that. In fact,
many people have raised their hands to make it KGF style.
They have a clear plan in Humbaya,
not to repeat but to reinvent.
That's how Kantara came about.
Another thing to appreciate about Humbaya is the super-fast
execution. Any producer should have a clarity on which
film has universal appeal and which
film should be limited to the regional market
. Even if that
clarity comes late, execution
should be super fast. They did the same to Kantara
. Initially, this movie was
planned as just a Kannada film. But when the
response to the premiere show was in a different range, it was
decided that this film should also be released pan India, and in just two weeks,
Kantara completed all the language dubbing
works and business related work and
released it pan India. The
connections she had during KGF One and Two helped Kantara a lot. The
producers' gut feeling came true.
Kantara, which was made with just 16 crores,
collected 400 crores. It
became a blockbuster. So if the execution is super fast, the
result will be in this range.
Hambale also proves another point with Kantara
. The same local stories can go
global. So far, no one outside Kannada has had
any idea about this booth. But there is
only one reason why people across the nation are connected to this movie.
Authenticity. That's what made everyone love this movie, it
created magic.
One time it may be considered luck, the second time it may be
considered fluke, but if it happens again and again, it
means that they are clearly planning and then pulling it off. If their concept is simple, the story is
authentic, and the scale is grand, then
they have the feeling that every Indian can connect and every Indian is connecting and is
becoming so. KGF
has ambition plus emotion in the type of rags to riches. Devotion and
emotion in Kantara, the same
devotion plus emotion in Mahavatar Narasimha is their
concept. Their second goal for Next is to
bring 140 crore people in India to theaters. To
talk about this, we need to talk about their business vision
. There are 33,000 theaters in the US
. But we only have 9000
. They say another 5,000 will arrive in the future
. And they are planning to invest
nearly 3000 crores in this entertainment field in the next five years
. Do you understand that
3000 crores will be invested, 500 to 600 crores every year?
Accordingly, he made films in Kannada as well as
Telugu. Next,
including Salar, he is doing three films with Prabhas
. In Bollywood,
there is also a film with Hrithik Roshan, a boxing film called Tyson with Prithviraj Sukumaran, Rakshit Shetty's most anticipated film with Richard Antony. And there will be
Mahaavatar movies in the mythological universe
. They are slowly
covering all industries. So
I don't know if the second goal will be achieved or not,
but the plan is solid. And
this is not like they're just going to make a movie for a few years and then
leave. This is
pure long-term thinking. If you look at the
release date of the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe movies,
you will understand it clearly.
If there are a total of seven films from this universe, they have plans for the last film to be released in 2037, which means another 12 years
years
. And
what about this animation VFX? That's where
Hombale comes in. They're not just making films, they're
building systems
together with Perpetual Capital and have launched Astra Studios, a
VFX generative AI and animation
related company
. This gives them control over these VFX and
animation-related complex projects
projects
. Look at how much planning they had behind them
and why did Hombale click so
fast? This is the most interesting question of all.
How did they become an India Stop production house in just a decade? Because there
was a clarity for them from day one. With confidence in the content,
the content
should be mesmerizing on the screen without any fear, which means delivering the best product without
compromising on what is required, how much is required, and without
fear of anything. The
recent Kantara is the
best example. The
visuals and sets on the big screen are stunning.
For that massive war sequence that everyone was talking about in Kantara, the Hombale people
shot in almost 25 plus acres
. For that single sequence, they shot for nearly 50 days with 500
professional fighters and 3000 extra artists
artists
. Producer Vijay
says their goal is to reach a wider audience with these culturally rooted stories
. So, no matter how authentic and rooted the
stories are, the visual
standards are never
compromised. This is also the reason why Prabhas
signed three films with Hombali
. Our Prabhas said that Vijay sir
always says quality is most
important for my films, that's why I
wanted to work with him. If
you give a director and
actor comfort and freedom,
without compromising on quality, and
take the risk of breaking the path every now and then, exploring new markets every time, then
both success and stars will
be with them. Their third
goal should also be mentioned here, which is the final goal of
taking Indian cinema to the world. We'll have to
see when this happens. But for
any banner that makes such huge budget movies, the
stakes are too high for one flop to go down the drain. That's why the
Hombale people are making
high-budget movies on one side, making movies like Salar KGF, and on
the other side, they are balancing it with
mid-budget movies like Kantara Part 1, Mahavatar, Bhagira Raghuthata .
.
They are creating a sensation with such movies too. If you've already
seen Kantara and Mahavatara, you can say that they are the pioneers in Indian cinema in a way,
in the animated film mission
. Now everyone is showing
interest in producing animated films
. Recently, there was an announcement that
they are also going into distribution in Telugu and making
movies like You Know That and The Goat Life Empuraan Mira
. So they are balancing high
budget films with mid-budget
content. They came to the industry with the dream of finally taking the Kannada industry
to the next level and not only
fulfilled that dream
but also changed the entire Kannada cinema
landscape. Today, all of them have
given such a bold inspiration to the young talent in the Kannada industry to think confidently and big, and
it is definitely the people of Hombale Films. Do you know what's
beautiful about this homeboy's approach
? They give
equal importance to the soul in the story along with our members
. In a way, they
don't just make commercial
films, they make emotional spectacles, and that
emotion is not to be missed. And the main reason why Hambale
Hambale
has reached this level in such a short time is due to perfect strategy and
planning as well as that emotion. So that's it
