1:02 well we've discovered if nothing else
1:05 this week that there's more involved in
1:08 prayer than most of us
1:11 realize prayer is at the same time the
1:13 greatest privilege a great privilege of
1:16 worshiping God talking to
1:19 God it's also a solemn responsibility He
1:21 commands us to
1:24 pray he says when you
1:28 pray prayer involves relationship Our
1:30 Father in heaven
1:33 Heaven prayer involves
1:36 worship Hallowed Be Your
1:39 Name it involves kingship because we
1:41 come to the throne of
1:45 grace your kingdom come it involves
1:48 partnership your will be done on Earth
1:50 as it is in heaven we are partners with
1:53 him remember when we pray we must be
1:56 willing to be a part of the
1:59 answer he may not ask us to be but we
2:05 prayer involves stewardship give us this
2:08 day our daily bread whatever God gives we're
2:09 we're
2:12 stewards we don't own it we simply
2:14 manage it and we have to manage it to please
2:16 please
2:21 him prayer involves Fellowship forgive
2:24 us our debts as we forgive our debtors
2:27 but prayer also involves
2:31 hardship verse 13 of Matthew
2:35 6 and do not lead us into
2:38 temptation but Deliver Us from the evil
2:41 one I don't know who it was who first
2:43 invented the lie that the longer you
2:46 walk with the Lord the easier it
2:49 gets it must have been Satan because he
2:50 is the father of
2:53 Lies now the longer we walk with the
2:56 Lord the easier some things do become
3:01 but the harder other things become our
3:02 our
3:05 standards become better our ideals are
3:08 higher our desire for christlikeness is
3:12 deeper and so we aren't
3:14 satisfied unless we're becoming more and
3:16 more like the Lord Jesus and that's what
3:19 prayer is all about now when our lord
3:23 gave this prayer the Jewish people
3:27 recognized the sequence in verses 11 and
3:30 12 and 13 give us this day our daily
3:32 bread reminded them of the Mana that
3:35 fell in the wilderness oh yes Daily
3:37 Bread we understand that and forgive us
3:39 our debts as we forgive our debtors
3:42 reminded them of the sabatical year
3:45 every seven years the Jews had to
3:47 forgive the debts and remit them and
3:50 then every 50th year the Year of
3:53 Jubilee uh everything economically went
3:55 back to where it was this was God's way
3:57 of taking care of the
4:00 land and so they understood that yeah we
4:01 know about
4:04 that and then when our lord said and do
4:06 not lead us into temptation but Deliver
4:07 Us from the evil one they said we know
4:11 about that too we've read Exodus and
4:14 Leviticus in numbers and Deuteronomy and
4:18 we've seen how our ancestors
4:21 acted when they tempted
4:24 God so this was not new to them but the
4:26 expression of it reminded them of their own
4:27 own
4:30 history but it also reminds us of
4:32 something now notice the
4:34 sequence in verses
4:37 11-13 these are the petitions that we
4:40 give you'll recall the first part of the
4:43 prayer Our petitions
4:44 concern the
4:49 father his name his kingdom his will and
4:51 after we have settled that then we can
4:54 come with our petitions because as I've
4:58 said so many times the purpose of
5:01 prayer is not to get our will done in
5:03 heaven but to get God's will done on
5:07 Earth it's not to glorify our names but
5:10 to glorify his name it's not to extend
5:14 our influence and our kingdom but his
5:17 kingdom but notice the
5:19 sequence give us this day our daily
5:23 bread that deals with things bread here
5:26 is a symbol of everything I need your
5:28 father in Heaven knows that you have
5:31 need of these things things God knows we
5:34 need things God made
5:38 things and God wants us to put him first
5:40 that all these things may be added to us
5:43 the things that the world is coveting
5:47 and chasing and paying so dearly for are
5:49 for the Christian fringe
5:52 benefits seek first the kingdom of God
5:55 and his righteousness and all these
5:57 things shall be added unto you that's
6:00 why we first pray
6:04 Our Father your name your kingdom your
6:08 will so verse 11
6:11 things now verse 12 forgive us our debts
6:18 people and verse 13 deals with
6:20 circumstances do not lead us into
6:23 temptation Deliver Us from the evil
6:27 one here my dear friends are the sources
6:31 of blessing and burden in life
6:32 life people
6:34 people circumstances
6:40 things I don't know what you're worrying
6:42 about and fretting about today but my
6:46 guess is that whatever it is can be
6:48 classified in one of these three
6:49 categories some of you are
6:53 being beset by people there are people
6:55 in your life they're bothering
6:58 you it may be a family member it may be
7:01 a neighbor I don't know maybe a fellow
7:04 winter worker I don't
7:06 know circumstances if only we could change
7:14 circumstances I heard about a man who um
7:18 talked only about his farm in Michigan
7:19 now he didn't live in Michigan he lived
7:22 in a big city somewhere and at lunch
7:24 he'd say oh boy I remember that farm I
7:26 grew up on in
7:29 Michigan and the stream and the barn and
7:32 the fields and the trees oh I remember
7:33 that it's all he talked
7:36 about finally retirement came around and
7:37 someone said well why don't you just go
7:41 back there he said I think I will so he
7:45 did but before long he was back in the
7:47 city again and somebody said well did
7:50 you go to Michigan yeah was a farm there
7:53 yeah was a barn there sure the stream it
7:59 was there the fields yeah the tree yeah
8:00 if they were all there why didn't you
8:09 there circumstances change don't they
8:11 and we're always dreaming of those ideal
8:13 circumstances I have news for you you
8:16 not have them here on
8:19 Earth so people and circumstances and
8:22 things make us worry somebody's worrying
8:25 about things that they don't
8:28 have um we in the older generation in
8:31 the United States are concerned about things
8:33 things
8:36 medical how are we going to take care of
8:38 ourselves and
8:41 others is the next Generation going to
8:44 be saddled with our
8:47 debts and so these three requests which
8:49 go together you notice the
8:52 and give us this day our daily bread
8:56 and forgive us our debts and do not lead
8:59 us into temptation these three requests
9:01 deal with the three sources of both
9:04 blessing and burden in my life
9:07 circumstances people and
9:10 things by the way that's what worry
9:13 is according to Philippians chapter 4
9:16 worry is wrong thinking and wrong
9:20 feeling about circumstances people and
9:24 things and so when I pray this prayer
9:28 daily I am saying father you take care
9:31 of circumstan and guide me and you take
9:33 care of people and help me to forgive
9:36 and you take care of things make me a good
9:37 good
9:40 Steward and you know what he
9:48 does and do not lead us into temptation
9:51 but Deliver Us from the evil one now
9:54 this particular request deals with the
9:57 circumstances of
10:00 life and how Satan can use the
10:03 circumstances of life or people or
10:07 things to create problems for us please
10:15 control Satan is not running this world
10:18 This Is My Father's
10:21 World now he's not to blame for what we
10:23 do he's not to blame for what nations do
10:26 he's not to blame for what leaders do or
10:29 even what churches do
10:32 but he's in control and why he allows
10:33 certain things to happen I don't know
10:40 know let's talk about circumstances lead
10:45 us and do not lead us into temptation
10:47 now we all know that God does not tempt
10:49 anybody you know that because you've
10:51 read James chapter
10:57 1 in James chapter 1 he says this let no
10:59 one say when he is tempt that I tempted
11:03 by God for God cannot be tempted by
11:07 evil now that means his nature is
11:10 perfect nor does he himself tempt anyone
11:15 a perfect God cannot tempt
11:17 anybody but each one is tempted when he
11:21 is drawn away by his own desires and
11:23 enticed that's an interesting word
11:27 entice the it's a picture of a fisherman
11:31 baiting a hook to catch a fish it's a
11:33 picture of a hunter baiting a trap to
11:35 catch an
11:38 animal temptation is the devil's
11:42 bait he's offering us something that he
11:44 says is better than what God gives
11:49 us temptation is the opportunity to
11:54 achieve a good thing in a bad way
11:55 there's certainly nothing wrong with
11:57 passing and examination that's good to
12:00 cheat to pass is
12:02 wrong there's nothing wrong with paying
12:06 our income tax that's good to lie to do
12:07 it is
12:11 wrong so Satan always gives us the
12:15 opportunity of something good he says to Eve
12:17 Eve
12:19 um here's the
12:22 fruit it's
12:25 good and she took it but you see Satan's
12:28 temptation is an opportunity to achieve
12:37 way now in verse 15 he changes the image
12:39 he's not talking about bait anymore he's
12:43 talking about birth then when desire has
12:47 conceived each one of us has within him
12:49 or her a
12:52 womb called the
12:54 imagination the imagination is a
12:57 marvelous thing it's a gift of God our
12:59 God is a great God with a great
13:02 imagination every snowflake is different
13:03 every flower is different every person
13:07 is different we live in dull routines
13:09 not so with God now God gave you an
13:11 imagination you're you're made in the
13:13 image of God some people have turned
13:20 sewer and their thoughts are dirty and
13:22 corrupt and
13:26 rotten and if they were projected on a
13:28 screen those people would sneak out of
13:31 the the room before the lights came on
13:33 some people have turned their
13:35 imagination into a glacier it's just
13:37 rigid and cold and it doesn't produce
13:39 anything the imagination is supposed to
13:43 be a beautiful stream that brings life
13:44 and it's in the imagination that we
13:47 conceive this building it's in the
13:49 imagination that we conceive the new
13:51 dormatory it's in the imagination that
13:54 you women plan a meal and it's in the
13:56 imagination that a preacher prepares a
14:00 sermon the Holy Spirit uses the
14:03 womb of the imagination to
14:10 things but James says if you aren't
14:12 careful your lustful desires will
14:14 impregnate that
14:17 imagination and it's going to give birth to
14:19 to
14:22 sin because sin begins in the
14:24 imagination Eve looked at the tree and
14:27 said my that'll make me
14:35 God it gives birth to sin but the sin grows
14:37 grows
14:40 up ogan Nash has a cute little poem of
14:41 two lines he liked to write two line
14:43 poems one of them said when called by a
14:46 panther don't
14:49 answer but the one I like is the trouble
14:51 with a kitten is that it will grow up
14:53 and be a
14:57 cat fine you you conceive in your
14:59 imagination that you're going to be
15:03 helped or Satisfied by some sin so you
15:06 give birth to that sin but that sin's
15:07 going to grow
15:10 up he says and when it's full of grown
15:16 death so God doesn't tempt anybody God
15:18 is not in the Temptation business well
15:20 then why do we pray lead us not into
15:22 temptation because the word temptation
15:26 here carries two meanings to it number
15:34 myself number two I can tempt
15:37 God those are the two aspects of
15:39 Temptation that he's talking about you
15:43 see when I face a
15:46 circumstance a difficult
15:49 circumstance a painful
15:52 circumstance my response to that
15:55 circumstance will determine whether it
15:58 will be a trial that'll bring out the
16:01 best in me or a Temptation that'll bring
16:03 out the worst in
16:09 choice now we couldn't grow without
16:11 trials if all of our circumstances were
16:13 easy we'd never
16:16 mature people are looking for the easy
16:18 life I've met some people who have easy
16:20 lives I want to tell you a secret about
16:27 stiff you see well I got some things in
16:30 my life I could afford to do without so
16:34 why but God knows I need
16:37 him god holds the key of all unknown
16:39 says an old hymn that we don't sing
16:41 anymore and I'm
16:44 glad for if another held the key or if
16:47 he trusted it to me I might be
16:49 sad if I planned my
16:54 life perfectly and God let it
16:57 happen I'd be miserable he wouldn't be
17:04 like anything else in life the Christian
17:07 Life requires the flexing of
17:09 muscles you don't become a great swimmer
17:17 Olympics you don't become a good cook
17:20 merely by watching Julia Child on
17:27 Gourmet you don't become a soul winner
17:29 by reading books on Soul winning you
17:34 have to do something and so God creates
17:37 circumstances that will cause me to
17:40 trust him let's take this first aspect
17:44 of it in the circumstances of life we
17:53 overconfidence like Peter our Lord
17:55 warned Peter several times Peter you're
17:57 going to fall he said to all the
18:00 disciples it's says back in Zechariah
18:02 they're going to Smite the shepherd and
18:04 the Sheep should be scattered now get
18:06 out of here I've heard eloquent sermons
18:09 and I've read eloquent sermons on that
18:11 text and Peter followed a far off and
18:13 they criticized Peter for following a
18:14 far off dear friends Peter wasn't
18:16 supposed to follow it
18:18 all a far off near or otherwise he was
18:20 supposed to get out of there our Lord
18:22 warned Peter get out get out he didn't
18:25 do it he's confident though everybody
18:28 else may forsake you not Peter I'll go
18:30 to death
18:32 huh overconfidence that's what we're
18:36 praying lead us not into temptation oh
18:39 Lord today whatever circumstances come
18:42 to my life don't let me get so
18:47 overconfident that that trial turns into
18:50 a Temptation because I'm trusting myself
18:51 and not trusting
18:56 you it is a plea to walk softly before God
19:05 keep your place in Matthew chapter 6 and
19:19 depths verse three if you Lord should
19:22 Mark iniquities oh Lord who could stand
19:23 well the answer is
19:27 nobody but there is forgiveness with you
19:29 that you may be feared here now notice
19:33 the sequence forgive us our debts and do
19:36 not lead us into temptation God forgives
19:42 careless following forgiveness there
19:46 ought to be fear there is forgiveness
19:49 with you that you may be feared now this
19:52 particular prayer is expressing a fear
19:59 myself overcome
20:07 myself but now there's another aspect of
20:09 this we can tempt
20:12 God lead us not into temptation also
20:14 means father when
20:18 circumstances come that are difficult
20:21 don't let me tempt you now I can tempt
20:23 myself with overc confidence and fall
20:25 flat on my face and bring disgrace to
20:31 God oh I can handle this we get like um
20:34 Samson who when he woke up said I will
20:37 use my muscles like I used to use my
20:39 muscles and that little parenthesis says
20:48 him but we can also tempt God how do we do
20:49 do that
20:50 that
20:54 resisting complaining and daring him to
21:03 Israel is delivered from Egypt in Exodus
21:05 1213 and
21:08 14 marvelous thing in the full sight of
21:10 everybody while they're digging the
21:12 graves while the Egyptians are digging
21:20 out and when the Jews turn around and
21:23 look the Egyptian Army has been drowned
21:25 Pharaoh had drowned the Jewish boys and
21:28 so now God drowns the Jewish the the Egyptian
21:29 Egyptian
21:38 s and then they sing the first hymn of
21:41 praise of God's people Exodus chapter
21:45 15 oh it's a great hym of
21:48 Praise the Lord is our strength and our
21:51 song He's become our Salvation the Lord
21:55 is a man of war the Egyptians sank into
21:59 the water like lead
22:00 that's chapter 15 you know what they're
22:03 doing in Exodus chapter 16
22:06 16
22:08 griping you know it's easy to join the
22:10 choir and sing a song of Praise then walk
22:11 walk
22:15 out and
22:18 complain and they started tempting God
22:21 by their unbelief we don't have any food
22:25 to eat so he sent him Mana we don't have
22:27 any water so he gave him water can the
22:29 Lord prepare a able in the wilderness
22:32 when I start doubting God questioning
22:35 God and rebelling against God and
22:39 complaining to God I am tempting
22:41 God to do
22:49 me now he knows our frame he remembers
22:51 that we're dust and he knows we're a
22:52 bunch of
22:54 complainers complaining is the chief
22:56 Indoor Sport of most
22:58 Saints people who would not Comm
23:00 adultery who would not cheat on their
23:02 income tax who would not Park in a No
23:06 Parking Place will
23:09 complain that's dangerous turn to 1
23:20 10 moreover Brethren I do not want you
23:22 to be unaware that all our fathers were
23:25 under the cloud that means when
23:29 they uh marched from place to place all
23:31 passed through the
23:35 sea on The Exodus all were baptized unto
23:37 Moses in the cloud and in the
23:41 sea they were identified with him all
23:44 ate the same spiritual food the Mana all
23:46 drank the same spiritual drink the water
23:48 for they drank of that spiritual rock
23:51 that followed them and that rock was
23:55 Christ picture of Jesus
23:59 but notice the all all all all all but with
23:59 with
24:03 most of them God was not well pleased
24:05 for their bodies were scattered in the
24:08 wilderness a whole generation
24:11 died as they marched through the
24:14 Wilderness now these things became our
24:16 examples that's why we read the Old
24:19 Testament folks when I was on the radio
24:21 regularly I'd get mail from people
24:22 saying why are you teaching the Old
24:26 Testament the Old Testament is Shadows
24:27 why don't you just teach the New
24:29 Testament and I right back and say did
24:30 you ever stop to think that the only
24:32 Bible the church had at the beginning
24:33 was the Old
24:36 Testament the only Bible Jesus had was
24:38 the Old Testament and if you don't know
24:40 the Old Testament you don't know the New
24:44 Testament it's for our good these things
24:46 happen to them as
24:49 examples to the intent that we should
24:52 not lust after evil things oh we want
25:01 they remembered the diet in Egypt but
25:10 Egypt and do not become idolators as
25:12 were some of them as it is written the
25:13 people sat down to eat and drank and
25:16 Rose up to play that means immorality
25:19 nor let us commit sexual immorality as
25:23 some of them did and in one day 23,000
25:34 Christ as some of them also tempted and
25:36 were destroyed by
25:40 serpents how they tempt by complaining nor
25:42 nor
25:45 complain as some of them also complained
25:47 and were destroyed by the Destroyer now
25:48 all these things happened to them as
25:50 examples for
25:53 us and they were written for our
25:56 admonition our
25:58 warning now look at verse 12
26:02 therefore let him who thinks he stands
26:05 take heed lest he fall David was not a
26:08 little college boy when he committed
26:11 adultery Jonah was not an unseasoned
26:12 Prophet when he rebelled against God
26:15 almost lost his life Peter was not an
26:18 untrained Apostle when he denied the
26:21 Lord three times and about the time I
26:25 face some circumstances and say well you
26:28 know I can handle this down I go or
26:30 I look at these circumstances and
26:33 instead of tempting myself I tempt God I
26:36 complain why should this happen to
26:39 me and I don't believe that God can do
26:42 anything about it I can just see those
26:43 Jews in the wilderness when they were
26:45 hungry for
26:48 meat well God can't prepare a table in
26:51 the wilderness you know God can't set up
26:54 a butcher shop here God says you think I
26:56 can I'll show
26:58 you he sent them enough meat and while
27:00 they were eating it what
27:02 happened down they
27:06 went down they went he gave them their
27:07 request and he sent leanness to their
27:11 soul so that when we pray father I don't
27:14 know what this day holds here are the
27:16 circumstances now I
27:20 pray lead me not into temptation which
27:23 means don't let me get overconfident and
27:27 tempt myself like Peter and don't let me
27:31 get complaining and rebelling and
27:33 unbelieving and tempt
27:36 you we tempt God when we put ourselves
27:37 in a
27:40 circumstance where he has to rescue us
27:42 or discipline
27:52 God and so here are trials that come and
27:53 they keep
27:55 coming you think you've come to the
27:56 point where you won't have any more
27:57 trial that can new you're going to have trial
28:02 I've read all the books on the Victoria
28:03 not all of them but many of the books on
28:05 the Victorious Christian life I've
28:07 spoken in Victorious Christian Life
28:10 conferences I praise God for the truth
28:13 of Romans 567 and 8 but nowhere does it
28:15 say you're not going to have
28:17 trials Alexander white said it's a
28:21 battle to the Gates of Glory and it is
28:27 battle I can start the day saying now father
28:28 father
28:30 I've got to talk to you about
28:33 things give me my daily bread I've got
28:36 to talk to you about
28:40 people forgive me forgive us our debts
28:42 as we forgive our debtors I got to talk
28:44 to you about circumstances as
28:47 circumstances come to me today don't let
28:50 me by my overconfidence turn a trial
28:53 into a Temptation don't let me by my
28:56 overconfidence turn a trial into
29:06 choice by the
29:08 way the first half of the book of
29:14 that if you were to ask me what I think
29:16 is the most important verse in the Old
29:19 Testament you know what I think it
29:23 is the just shall live by
29:25 faith that verse is so important the
29:27 Holy Spirit wrote three books to explain
29:31 it Romans Galatians and Hebrews it's
29:33 quoted in each of those each of those
29:36 books Romans talks about the just
29:38 Galatians tells how they shall live and
29:44 faith it's rather interesting that the
29:46 verse is quoted at the beginning of
29:48 Romans in the middle of Galatians and at
29:54 Hebrews book of Hebrews says we live by
29:57 faith looking unto
30:00 Jesus and the illustration it uses is
30:04 Israel in the wilderness it says today
30:05 when you hear his voice that's where
30:08 faith comes from faith comes by hearing
30:10 the word of God today when you hear his
30:12 voice don't Harden your hearts as did
30:14 the Jews in the
30:16 wilderness and in their unbelief they
30:28 God now the last part of this request
30:38 one lead us not into temptation that's
30:41 Direction Deliver Us from the evil one that's
30:49 Deliverance because Satan can use people
30:52 circumstances and
30:55 things to defeat us he can't do it
30:58 unless we let him
31:08 one this evil one is Satan Satan means
31:15 adversary we have an enemy be sober be
31:19 vigilant your adversary the
31:22 devil goes about as a roaring Lon
31:23 seeking whom he may
31:26 devour Satan sometimes comes as a
31:28 serpent to deceive he sometimes s comes
31:35 devour our our world is being taken over
31:38 by the
31:40 occult one of the little things I do
31:43 from time to time is check secular
31:45 bookstores not Christian bookstores secular
31:46 secular
31:51 bookstores to see what is
31:53 selling and I recall years ago in the
31:55 60s I'd walk into secular bookstores and
31:58 notice that month by month the section
32:01 on the occult was
32:10 enough now we have a a regular
32:13 flood of the occult in America
32:17 today would frighten us if we knew what
32:25 secret then I began to notice that the
32:28 secular bookstores were in increasing in
32:30 their titles dealing with addiction I
32:33 said aha that's the next Trend and sure
32:36 enough today we have over a half a
32:39 million support
32:43 groups people meeting week by week
32:45 somewhere between 10 and 15 million
32:47 people meeting in these support
32:50 groups to get help with addiction and
32:52 and not just narcotics addiction
32:55 substance addiction alcohol or gambling
33:08 one well what does the evil one want to
33:15 Deliverance when I was save Jesus Christ
33:19 translated me out of the kingdom of
33:22 darkness into the kingdom of his dear
33:25 son God the Father translated me the word
33:26 word
33:29 translate transfer means to pick up
33:31 prisoners of war and take them to a new
33:34 land they Babylonians took the Jews out
33:36 of Judah and took them off to Babylon
33:39 that's the word I used to be a citizen
33:41 of the kingdom of darkness but when I
33:44 was saved the father translated me
33:46 picked me up I was a prisoner of war
33:48 thank God I was God's prisoner and he
33:50 put me into the kingdom of his dear son
33:52 but the devil didn't like
33:55 that the God of this age did not like
34:01 I don't want to get into any technical
34:04 arguments with anybody because I don't
34:06 like to argue I do not personally
34:10 believe that a truly Born Again believer
34:12 can be
34:14 inhabited by
34:18 demons I believe they can be obsessed
34:25 influenced and I do believe that there
34:29 are subtle demonic forces is at work in
34:34 Christians if it happened to Peter it
34:40 me our Lord heard from Peter you are the
34:42 Christ of God then Jesus said I'm going
34:44 to go to the cross and die and Peter
34:46 said far be that from you Lord and Jesus
34:51 said get behind me Satan one minute
34:53 Peter speaking for God the next minute
34:55 he's speaking for the
35:02 careful but I also believe that if my
35:05 body and my mind and my will and my
35:08 heart are committed to Christ every day
35:10 that's the first thing I do in the
35:13 morning practice Romans 121 and2 Lord
35:14 here's my
35:17 body and here's my mind and I reach for
35:19 the Bible and I let the word of God
35:22 renew my mind and here's my will I pray
35:25 your will be done here's my heart I
35:28 worship him and then I put on the
35:30 armor I want to recommend to you you put
35:33 on the whole armor of God every day just
35:35 do it by faith that's what we sing in
35:38 one of our songs put on the gospel armor
35:42 each piece put on with
35:44 prayer and so I start from head to foot

36:21 in the Old Testament you find Satan at

36:30 test who had a direct confrontation with the
36:35 devil we can't go into the detail but
36:37 I'd like to look at them quickly if

37:00 now the serpent was more cunning than
37:01 any beast of the field which the Lord

37:29 I'm not quite sure how to read that
37:32 statement I don't know if it should be
37:35 you shall not surely die meaning why
37:37 you're the first woman and your
37:39 husband's the first man God wouldn't
37:42 kill the first people he made or you
37:45 will not surely die or you will not
37:48 surely die maybe all
37:50 three for God knows that in the day you
37:53 eat of it your eyes will be opened and
37:56 you will be like God knowing Good and Evil

38:00 you know the rest of the story now
38:03 you'll notice that what Satan did was

38:10 mind did you know that in fact the old
38:14 the New Testament backs that up in um 2

38:48 attack my mind what weapon does he use
38:51 lies if the devil can get you to believe
38:54 a lie he gets a beach head in your life
38:56 and that beach head could turn into
38:59 bondage and

39:04 trouble Satan wants to attack my mind with

39:07 lies notice how he does it first he
39:10 questions God's word has God
39:14 said then he denies God's word you will
39:16 not surely die then he substitutes his
39:19 own promise you will be like God every
39:22 cult operates that
39:24 way and some of the heresies in the church
39:30 by the way Eve didn't do too well with
39:32 her Bible memory
39:35 work in verse three she adds to God's
39:36 word we don't find any place where he
39:38 said you shouldn't touch it he may have
39:40 said that he may have said
39:43 that then she says lest you die he
39:44 didn't say lest you die he said you're
39:48 going to die and so she changed God's
39:50 word and she added to God's word and
39:52 before long she quit believing God's
39:55 word now this is why every day God's
39:58 people read the word of God
40:00 we read the word of God because the word of
40:01 of
40:06 God is the only weapon that helps us
40:13 minds Satan attacks the mind with
40:17 lies and our defense is the inspired
40:20 word of God therefore when I
40:24 pray deliver me from the evil one I'm
40:27 also going to reach for my Bible because
40:30 it implies father teach me the word of
40:41 me I've been studying God's word since
40:43 confirmation class when I was 15 years
40:46 old it's a long time and the more I read
40:54 feel but I learn this that sword of the
41:01 now the second person who had a
41:04 confrontation with Satan was job now you
41:11 and2 and there Satan didn't come as a
41:14 serpent he came as a lion to devour he

41:28 job is not why why do the righteous

42:31 now what's the answer to that the grace of

42:42 similar experience to job he had the
42:50 him and that messenger was not one of Paul's

42:54 critics it wasn't the problems in a
42:58 church it was a physical affliction
43:01 that Satan was permitted to give to Paul
43:03 he buffeted
43:05 him and Paul did what I would have done
43:07 he said take it away take it away take
43:09 it away like Jesus in the garden three
43:13 times take away God didn't now sometimes
43:16 God does sometimes God takes it away but
43:18 sometimes he adds something God said
43:20 Paul my grace is sufficient for you what

43:29 at the end of The Book of Job God does

43:35 says hey you better get right you ask
43:38 job to pray for you and I'll forgive
43:42 you don't be too hard on job if I had

43:51 love and I was sitting there listening

43:57 friends such friends criticizing me and condemning
43:59 condemning
44:02 me I I think I'd say a few things
44:05 that maybe later on I'd be ashamed of
44:08 you know what job never
44:11 said that he was going to deny God
44:13 God
44:15 never he says though he slay me I'll trust
44:22 him so sometimes Satan uses lies in my
44:25 mind and sometimes he uses circumstances
44:28 and suffering in my body
44:29 when he comes with lies I need the
44:31 inspired word of God when he comes with
44:34 suffering I need the imparted grace of
44:36 God my grace is sufficient my grace is
44:39 sufficient he giveth more
44:43 grace when the burdens grow
44:46 greater he sendeth more strength when
44:48 the labors increase to added Affliction
44:52 he added his Mercy to Multiplied
44:55 trials his multiplied
44:58 peace when we have exhausted our store
45:01 of endurance when our strength is failed
45:03 there the
45:06 day is half done when we have used up
45:09 all our hoarded resources our father's
45:12 full giving is only begun his love knows
45:14 no limit his grace knows no measure his
45:17 power knows no boundary known unto men

47:57 church and oh what a tragedy

50:13 meeting with the Devil is found in

50:23 the high priest the Jews had gone from
50:25 Babylon back to the land they built
50:27 their Temple and they were in b
50:31 shape and my Bible says that Zechariah

52:16 fire then he answered and spoke to those

52:23 Old Testament version of The Prodigal
52:25 Son and he said to him see I have
52:27 removed your your iniquity from you and
52:30 I will clothe you with Rich robes and
52:31 then the prophet spoke up he got so
52:33 interesting he spoke up and said let
52:35 them put a clean turban on his head
52:36 because the high priest wore a turban on
52:38 the front of that turban was a gold
52:41 plate that said Holiness unto the Lord
52:43 and he had to wear
52:46 that they put a clean turban on
52:50 him you see the the Jews had sinned and
52:52 Satan was saying to God they're they're
52:56 dirty you you got to kill them and God
52:57 said no I'm going to cleanse
53:00 him well then you better put him on
53:02 probation for 20 years no no notice what
53:06 he says in verse 7 God says to Joshua if
53:08 you will walk in my ways and if you will
53:10 keep my command then you shall also
53:13 judge my house and likewise have charge
53:16 of my courts I will give you places to
53:18 walk among those who stand here you see
53:21 Joshua went back to
53:24 work God forgave Joshua went back to
53:26 walk in the light and serve the Lord
53:29 Lord this is the Old Testament version
53:30 of 1 John
53:33 1:9 and so when I pray deliver me from
53:36 the evil one I'm saying father in the
53:38 circumstances of Life today he's going
53:40 to throw his fiery darts at me he's
53:43 going to accuse me and I I'm I'm going
53:46 to listen perhaps please deliver me from his
53:54 accusation now when he attacks my mind
53:57 my Deliverance is the inspired word of
54:02 God when he attacks my body it's the
54:05 imparted grace of God when he attacks my
54:06 will with
54:09 pride it's the indwelling spirit of God
54:12 who works in me to Humble me and to help
54:16 me but when he attacks my heart my
54:18 conscience with these accusations you
54:21 know what my resource is the interceding
54:24 Son of God here's Joshua standing Before

54:30 here's the prosecuting attorney saying kill

54:34 him then Jesus steps
54:37 up the Lord Jesus steps up and all he
54:40 has to do is hold up his

54:48 him why is the Lord Jesus interceding in
54:50 heaven for us not because the father
54:53 hates us and and the son has to calm him
54:54 down no
54:57 way why does Jesus intercede for me in
54:59 heaven because
55:03 constantly as he watches me I get into
55:06 circumstances and sometimes those
55:15 me these things we write to you said
55:17 John that you sin not but if anyone sins
55:24 lawyer we have an advocate in heaven
55:27 Jesus Christ the righteous one if we
55:30 confess our sins he's faithful and just
55:36 sins and so when I pray deliver me from
55:38 the evil
55:42 one I'm saying oh Father I need the
55:46 interceding Son of God I need the
55:50 imparted grace of God I need the the
55:53 indwelling spirit of God to help me I
55:56 need the inspired word of God now
55:58 deliver me from the evil one no matter
56:01 where he attacks my mind my body my will
56:05 my heart deliver me no wonder this
56:12 for that's an
56:14 argument that's an argument he's saying
56:19 hey you do this because for yours is the
56:23 kingdom hey you're the king Satan has to
56:25 do what you tell him you're the king
56:29 you're is the power you have the power
56:31 yours is the glory the only reason I
56:33 want this father is that you might be
56:35 glorified and so the prayer ends where
56:44 name that's why I recommend that you
56:47 start your day with the Lord's
56:53 everything every one of these requests
56:56 is a category into which we can drop our
56:58 our burdens and our needs and our
57:01 concerns and the best thing about this
57:03 prayer is that Jesus taught it to us
57:05 therefore we know God has to answer
57:08 it doesn't have to answer all my prayers
57:10 but he has to answer his son's
57:13 prayers father I know that you hear me
57:16 but you always hear me he said in John
