0:09 yo what's up everybody Welcome to Hanoi
0:11 Hanoi is one of the food capitals of the
0:12 world and we're going to be eating at
0:15 plenty of delicious food spots but right
0:17 now we're here in Old Porter and we're
0:18 going to show you all around this place
0:20 and we're going to bring you guys some
0:21 of the top things to do when you're in
0:24 Hanoi let's start off with St Joseph as usual
0:29 now Hanoi old qu is really interesting
0:31 because you you can see how it's adopted
0:33 a blend of Chinese Vietnamese and French
0:35 influence like this Cathedral behind us
0:41 right one of the great things about old
0:43 quarter is that all the attractions are
0:45 very tightly knit together which makes
0:47 getting around very easy back in the day
0:48 old Porter had a bunch of different
0:50 streets and they were actually named
0:52 after the specific craft that they sold
0:53 so there was things like chicken Street
0:56 where they just sold chicken silk Street
0:58 and it looks like where we are right now
0:59 is bamboo Street where they sell a bunch
1:02 of different ladders and pipes made of [Music]
1:03 [Music]
1:05 bamboo another interesting thing to
1:07 check out in Old quarter is train Street
1:09 as you can see it's a super busy street
1:11 there's tons of tourists here and
1:13 there's a real live train track that
1:14 runs across the whole middle of this
1:16 place and along both sides you've got
1:18 people living there and you've also got
1:19 a whole bunch of different cafes and
1:21 things as well it's definitely a Vibe
1:24 out here the restaurants and CAF showed
1:26 a train timetable on the walls just note
1:28 that times do differ for weekends and
1:36 coming as you can see the train comes
1:38 right up in the slide so you want to
1:40 make sure you're safely off the track as
1:41 soon as the guys tell you to get [Music]
1:43 [Music]
1:45 off then a grab now H it over to the
1:48 Hanoi Night Market it's only open on
1:49 Friday Saturday and Sunday so it's lucky
1:51 that we're here on the weekend to catch
1:53 it this place is only open from 7:00
1:55 onwards the whole of H Street is blocked
1:57 off and it runs all the way to dong sh
1:59 Market down there a lot of the clothing
2:01 and souvenirs that you will find in the
2:03 old quarters during the daytime you'll
2:05 also find it in the night markets and
2:07 they look to be a little bit cheaper as
2:09 well but you can still bargain up to 50
2:11 to 70% off and if we come around here
2:13 you'll also see that there's a whole
2:16 bunch of street food being sold along
2:17 the side probably going to get a couple
2:20 of barbecue skewers let's try it out our
2:21 first purchase of the night we've got a
2:28 skewers oh that real
2:33 good real good this was only $10,000 for
2:34 a skirt it's got a lovely lemongrass
2:37 flavor it's
2:39 delicious getting ourselves a prawn
2:41 skewer now
2:45 too is actually a p it's like a fish
2:48 paste made to look like a br is it good
2:55 anything yeah definitely just like a
2:59 fres paste you got corn I did here I'm
3:02 going going to try what I think is ice
3:05 cream R free it's just the weirdest
3:09 taste ever why it's like you're chewing
3:13 into crunchy air that tastes like grape
3:15 cuz that one was
3:22 [Music]
3:24 one smoking out of your
3:27 nose crunchy
3:30 a and if you're wondering yes they do
3:31 have some Louis V and some Supreme
3:38 CS that wraps up our tour here at the
3:40 old quarter Yen and I are going to go
3:42 home get a little bit of sleep cuz
3:43 tomorrow we're going to get a little bit
3:45 of culture from the water Puppet
3:48 Theater another thing to do when here in
3:49 Hanoi is come check out the tong long
3:51 border Puppet Theater missing this
3:53 attraction has been described as if you
3:55 go to Paris and you don't go see the
3:57 Eiffel Tower so we're definitely Keen to
3:58 check this one out prices for tickets
4:01 here are split up into three tiers
4:02 200,000 for the seats that are closest
4:05 to the stage 150,000 for the middle tier
4:07 and for cheap seats it's 100,000 but
4:08 we've heard that all the seats are
4:10 pretty good anyway but one big tip for
4:12 you is don't buy these tickets online it
4:14 can be doubled or triple the price even
4:16 on tripet fisa definitely just come
4:18 early to the booth itself and get it
4:20 here so the performance is done in
4:22 Vietnamese but you can purchase an
4:24 additional audio guide here in almost
4:35 fore [Music]
4:58 [Music] spee
5:00 spee
5:01 Show's just finished it was about an
5:03 hour's long duration and definitely
5:05 recommend getting the audio guide so
5:06 that you can understand each of the
5:07 different stories that's happening
5:09 throughout it it was really cool to get
5:11 to see the Mastery of the puppeteers
5:12 that did the work especially when they
5:14 came out right at the end and it's just
5:16 a nice experience to get to see a
5:17 Vietnamese traditional puppet show here in
5:19 in
5:21 Hanoi another one of the places you're
5:22 definitely going to want to check out
5:24 when you're here in Hanoi is Juan King
5:26 Lake it cost 30,000 Dawn to go to the
5:28 temple however it's free to just walk
5:30 around this place is a a lot more
5:31 peaceful than the rest of the places
5:33 that you're going to see in Hanoi there
5:35 a good mix of local people as well as
5:36 tourists and they're all here chilling
5:38 out and also checking out a little bit
5:40 about the legend of the lake which I'm
5:42 going to get into right now back in the
5:43 day there used to be an emperor called
5:45 lelay Loy who came here with his friend
5:47 to do a little bit of fishing instead of
5:49 catching a fish they managed to capture
5:50 this massive metal rod instead of
5:52 throwing it back they took it home and
5:54 turned it into a sword you know as you
5:56 do back in those days once they turned
5:58 it into a sword two magical words
6:00 appeared on it the later on the emperor
6:01 found himself in the middle of a battle
6:03 with the neighboring country he took
6:05 that sword into battle with him and they
6:07 won came back into the lake and a
6:08 massive Turtle appeared from out of
6:10 nowhere and shouted at him returned the
6:13 sword to the dragon king and without any
6:15 hesitation Emperor leloy threw the sword
6:17 back the turtle took it Dove down deep
6:19 into water turned it to the dragon king
6:21 and that's how this Lake got its name
6:22 Lake of the return
6:25 sword you know just as we wrapped up on
6:26 King Lake we managed to find two little
6:28 turtles that's a sign of something I
6:30 don't know what but that's a
6:33 sign we're currently at the Vietnamese
6:35 Fine Arts Museum and as you can see it's
6:37 quite a Grand Place built by French
6:39 Colonial Elite for his daughter who came
6:41 all the way from IND China to Hanoi to
6:43 study just picked up our tickets and
6:46 it's $40,000 per adult or you can get a
6:49 guided group tour and that's 150,000 on
6:51 top there were three floors to this
6:53 Museum and it's open Monday to Friday
6:55 8:30 to 5:00 [Music]
6:58 [Music]
7:01 p.m. this part of the museum houses all
7:03 the ancient works so don't miss it when
7:04 you come to visit the gallery it's
7:06 situated right behind the monk
7:09 sculptures the artwork here at banga
7:11 depicts everything from everyday life to
7:13 royalty Vietnamese folklore and of
7:16 course the Vietnam War you can see all
7:17 the various materials that we use
7:19 throughout history and it's a very
7:21 comprehensive Art Gallery definitely
7:22 worth checking [Music]
7:24 [Music]
7:26 out right across the road from the
7:28 Vietnamese Finance Museum you'll find
7:33 the tickets here for the Temple of
7:35 literature are 30,000 Vietnamese do each for
7:36 for
7:39 adults the entrance to the temple is on
7:41 the back of the 100,000 Vietnamese Dong
7:43 note we are currently in the first
7:45 Courtyard called entrance to the way and
7:47 this is where students are taught to be
7:50 respectful knowledge comes later the
7:52 temple hosts the Imperial Academy
7:55 Vietnam's First National University
7:57 originally the university only accepted
7:59 aristocrats the elite and royal family
8:00 members before it opened its doors to
8:03 brighter commoners every year graduates
8:04 would get their names engraved on these
8:07 Stone steals set upon the stone Turtles
8:08 we've reached the final Courtyard and
8:10 this is where children of the royal
8:12 family and Senior officials will come to
8:14 study and even live together too and
8:20 literature another one of the things
8:22 that you should do in Hanoi Vietnam is
8:24 pay your respects to the founder of
8:26 modern day Vietnam President hosi Min
8:30 whose mummified body lies in that Mum
8:31 right behind me the significance of
8:33 having his body here is because this is
8:35 where he first declared the independence
8:37 of Vietnam in ban Square in 1945 there's
8:39 some strict rules to adhere to when
8:41 you're visiting coim min's mosum this
8:43 place is heavily guarded and they won't
8:45 hesitate to single you out if you aren't
8:47 following the one of them is that you
8:48 should be dressed appropriately to pay
8:51 your respects and that means no singlets
8:53 and no shorts another is that you should
8:55 always be following the line that you're
8:57 in keep up your walking pace and once
8:59 you're inside you definitely need to be
9:01 silent and keep moving along quickly
9:03 then too with camera gear that should
9:06 all be checked in into the mosum and you
9:08 can get a little key to pick it up once
9:11 you exit it's free to enter the MIM and
9:12 the presidential Palace area which is
9:14 where we're at right now and president
9:17 hoi never did move into the massive
9:19 Grand Palace instead he stayed in the
9:22 building right behind us you can also
9:24 walk around the still house he lived in
9:27 from 1958 to 69 so we just wrapped up
9:29 the tour of the presidential Palace and
9:32 hoi min's mosum it was a really unique
9:34 experience being able to see the embed
9:36 body of a national icon and if you are
9:38 coming here the hours vary between the
9:40 mornings and so we'll leave that in the
9:42 description below and that wraps up our
9:44 top things to do here in Hanoi it's been
9:46 a crazy experience here in Hanoi it's
9:48 like no other city that we've ever been
9:50 to it can get a little bit hectic at
9:54 times crazy but that's part of the charm
9:56 so guys if you want to support our
