yo what's up everybody Welcome to Hanoi
Hanoi is one of the food capitals of the
world and we're going to be eating at
plenty of delicious food spots but right
now we're here in Old Porter and we're
going to show you all around this place
and we're going to bring you guys some
of the top things to do when you're in
Hanoi let's start off with St Joseph as usual
now Hanoi old qu is really interesting
because you you can see how it's adopted
a blend of Chinese Vietnamese and French
influence like this Cathedral behind us
right one of the great things about old
quarter is that all the attractions are
very tightly knit together which makes
getting around very easy back in the day
old Porter had a bunch of different
streets and they were actually named
after the specific craft that they sold
so there was things like chicken Street
where they just sold chicken silk Street
and it looks like where we are right now
is bamboo Street where they sell a bunch
of different ladders and pipes made of [Music]
[Music]
bamboo another interesting thing to
check out in Old quarter is train Street
as you can see it's a super busy street
there's tons of tourists here and
there's a real live train track that
runs across the whole middle of this
place and along both sides you've got
people living there and you've also got
a whole bunch of different cafes and
things as well it's definitely a Vibe
out here the restaurants and CAF showed
a train timetable on the walls just note
that times do differ for weekends and
coming as you can see the train comes
right up in the slide so you want to
make sure you're safely off the track as
soon as the guys tell you to get [Music]
[Music]
off then a grab now H it over to the
Hanoi Night Market it's only open on
Friday Saturday and Sunday so it's lucky
that we're here on the weekend to catch
it this place is only open from 7:00
onwards the whole of H Street is blocked
off and it runs all the way to dong sh
Market down there a lot of the clothing
and souvenirs that you will find in the
old quarters during the daytime you'll
also find it in the night markets and
they look to be a little bit cheaper as
well but you can still bargain up to 50
to 70% off and if we come around here
you'll also see that there's a whole
bunch of street food being sold along
the side probably going to get a couple
of barbecue skewers let's try it out our
first purchase of the night we've got a
skewers oh that real
good real good this was only $10,000 for
a skirt it's got a lovely lemongrass
flavor it's
delicious getting ourselves a prawn
skewer now
too is actually a p it's like a fish
paste made to look like a br is it good
anything yeah definitely just like a
fres paste you got corn I did here I'm
going going to try what I think is ice
cream R free it's just the weirdest
taste ever why it's like you're chewing
into crunchy air that tastes like grape
cuz that one was
[Music]
one smoking out of your
nose crunchy
a and if you're wondering yes they do
have some Louis V and some Supreme
CS that wraps up our tour here at the
old quarter Yen and I are going to go
home get a little bit of sleep cuz
tomorrow we're going to get a little bit
of culture from the water Puppet
Theater another thing to do when here in
Hanoi is come check out the tong long
border Puppet Theater missing this
attraction has been described as if you
go to Paris and you don't go see the
Eiffel Tower so we're definitely Keen to
check this one out prices for tickets
here are split up into three tiers
200,000 for the seats that are closest
to the stage 150,000 for the middle tier
and for cheap seats it's 100,000 but
we've heard that all the seats are
pretty good anyway but one big tip for
you is don't buy these tickets online it
can be doubled or triple the price even
on tripet fisa definitely just come
early to the booth itself and get it
here so the performance is done in
Vietnamese but you can purchase an
additional audio guide here in almost
fore [Music]
[Music] spee
spee
Show's just finished it was about an
hour's long duration and definitely
recommend getting the audio guide so
that you can understand each of the
different stories that's happening
throughout it it was really cool to get
to see the Mastery of the puppeteers
that did the work especially when they
came out right at the end and it's just
a nice experience to get to see a
Vietnamese traditional puppet show here in
in
Hanoi another one of the places you're
definitely going to want to check out
when you're here in Hanoi is Juan King
Lake it cost 30,000 Dawn to go to the
temple however it's free to just walk
around this place is a a lot more
peaceful than the rest of the places
that you're going to see in Hanoi there
a good mix of local people as well as
tourists and they're all here chilling
out and also checking out a little bit
about the legend of the lake which I'm
going to get into right now back in the
day there used to be an emperor called
lelay Loy who came here with his friend
to do a little bit of fishing instead of
catching a fish they managed to capture
this massive metal rod instead of
throwing it back they took it home and
turned it into a sword you know as you
do back in those days once they turned
it into a sword two magical words
appeared on it the later on the emperor
found himself in the middle of a battle
with the neighboring country he took
that sword into battle with him and they
won came back into the lake and a
massive Turtle appeared from out of
nowhere and shouted at him returned the
sword to the dragon king and without any
hesitation Emperor leloy threw the sword
back the turtle took it Dove down deep
into water turned it to the dragon king
and that's how this Lake got its name
Lake of the return
sword you know just as we wrapped up on
King Lake we managed to find two little
turtles that's a sign of something I
don't know what but that's a
sign we're currently at the Vietnamese
Fine Arts Museum and as you can see it's
quite a Grand Place built by French
Colonial Elite for his daughter who came
all the way from IND China to Hanoi to
study just picked up our tickets and
it's $40,000 per adult or you can get a
guided group tour and that's 150,000 on
top there were three floors to this
Museum and it's open Monday to Friday
8:30 to 5:00 [Music]
[Music]
p.m. this part of the museum houses all
the ancient works so don't miss it when
you come to visit the gallery it's
situated right behind the monk
sculptures the artwork here at banga
depicts everything from everyday life to
royalty Vietnamese folklore and of
course the Vietnam War you can see all
the various materials that we use
throughout history and it's a very
comprehensive Art Gallery definitely
worth checking [Music]
[Music]
out right across the road from the
Vietnamese Finance Museum you'll find
the tickets here for the Temple of
literature are 30,000 Vietnamese do each for
for
adults the entrance to the temple is on
the back of the 100,000 Vietnamese Dong
note we are currently in the first
Courtyard called entrance to the way and
this is where students are taught to be
respectful knowledge comes later the
temple hosts the Imperial Academy
Vietnam's First National University
originally the university only accepted
aristocrats the elite and royal family
members before it opened its doors to
brighter commoners every year graduates
would get their names engraved on these
Stone steals set upon the stone Turtles
we've reached the final Courtyard and
this is where children of the royal
family and Senior officials will come to
study and even live together too and
literature another one of the things
that you should do in Hanoi Vietnam is
pay your respects to the founder of
modern day Vietnam President hosi Min
whose mummified body lies in that Mum
right behind me the significance of
having his body here is because this is
where he first declared the independence
of Vietnam in ban Square in 1945 there's
some strict rules to adhere to when
you're visiting coim min's mosum this
place is heavily guarded and they won't
hesitate to single you out if you aren't
following the one of them is that you
should be dressed appropriately to pay
your respects and that means no singlets
and no shorts another is that you should
always be following the line that you're
in keep up your walking pace and once
you're inside you definitely need to be
silent and keep moving along quickly
then too with camera gear that should
all be checked in into the mosum and you
can get a little key to pick it up once
you exit it's free to enter the MIM and
the presidential Palace area which is
where we're at right now and president
hoi never did move into the massive
Grand Palace instead he stayed in the
building right behind us you can also
walk around the still house he lived in
from 1958 to 69 so we just wrapped up
the tour of the presidential Palace and
hoi min's mosum it was a really unique
experience being able to see the embed
body of a national icon and if you are
coming here the hours vary between the
mornings and so we'll leave that in the
description below and that wraps up our
top things to do here in Hanoi it's been
a crazy experience here in Hanoi it's
like no other city that we've ever been
to it can get a little bit hectic at
times crazy but that's part of the charm
so guys if you want to support our
Channel we really appreciate if you give
us some thumbs up subscribe if you
haven't already definitely drop us a
comment but also don't forget to ring
that little notification Bell so you
never miss an episode from us yeah Yen
