0:03 welcome to my digital presentation on
0:06 science I would like to acknowledge and
0:08 pay my respects to the traditional
0:10 owners of the land on which I walked
0:12 upon the W wonderer people of the cooler
0:14 Nation I acknowledge and respect the
0:16 Deep connection to the land and Waters
0:19 the traditional owners hold and their
0:21 ongoing role of caring for
0:24 country for my nature walk I visited the
0:26 leder state park located on the
0:29 outskirts of bakas marsh the Mackenzie
0:31 flat picnic area area also known as the
0:34 ler River Heritage River allows visitors
0:36 to explore the park through self-guided
0:38 walks along the tracks through the ler
0:40 Gorge while exploring the river along
0:43 the way the park is the perfect place to
0:46 explore nature and all it has to offer
0:48 as I headed off on my walk I was
0:50 instantly drawn to the river I noticed
0:52 the water was clear and I could see the
0:54 rocks on the bottom I could hear the
0:56 water trickling over and around the
0:59 Rocks like a small waterfall I could
1:01 hear birds chering in the trees and
1:04 bushes as I explored the river I noticed
1:05 a young boy throwing rocks into the
1:07 river while his dad was skimming them
1:10 across a top he was having fun as an
1:12 educator I could see this as an
1:15 opportunity to Foster his learning the
1:18 River Rocks wildlife and the surrounding
1:19 bushes and trees provide endless
1:22 opportunities to introduce stem to young children
1:43 science is all around us it provides
1:45 endless opportunities and children are
1:47 able to become confident and involved
1:49 Learners while children are naturally
1:52 curious and explorative the potential
1:54 for learning about the natural world
1:56 through inquiry and scientific Concepts
1:58 can be deepened through the guidance of
2:00 Educators who provide environments to
2:04 Foster this curiosity Cohen and wa stansky
2:05 stansky
2:08 2019 by providing children with the
2:10 opportunity to explore the natural
2:13 environment they will become scientists
2:14 as the natural environment always
2:17 provides children opportunity to make
2:20 new discoveries as a natural environment
2:23 is forever changing weedo Linsky
2:26 2019 they will be able to explore
2:29 observe ask questions and experiment worth
2:37 2019 as I explored the area I noticed
2:39 the opportunities for science including
2:43 floating and sinking forces and gravity
2:53 cycles the Aboriginal people were
2:55 Australia's first scientists their deep
2:57 association with the land and Waters
2:59 meant they developed a rich
3:00 understanding and skills in
3:03 Environmental Management my walk through
3:06 loed allowed me to see the many ways to
3:08 incorporate Aboriginal perspectives into
3:12 Children's Learning hoga 2020 the clear
3:13 waters made me think of floating and
3:16 sinking this scientific concept provides
3:18 opportunity to introduce the idea of
3:22 Aboriginal watercraft by using different
3:24 materials the children could explore the
3:27 concept of floating and sinking and as a
3:29 facilitator I could extend on their
3:32 learning about canoes and rafts hoga
3:35 2020 a sign about the Platypus provides
3:37 inspiration to engage children in
3:40 discussion about caring for country and
3:42 the importance of keeping our waterways
3:44 clean this provocation for learning will
3:46 invite children to make predictions
3:48 about the environment and the natural
3:52 world these discussions observations and
3:54 what the children notice will allow
3:56 extension of the children's learning an
3:59 opportunity to introduce the Aboriginal season
