hi everyone it's been quite a long time
I am just fully going to do a channel
pivot here I got a sewing machine for
Christmas I've been sewing regularly for
about a month now and I love it it is
like a hobby that I just am so in love
with probably my favorite hobby I've
ever had and for a while now like since
over the summer I've been super into
going to estate sales and I have really
missed being on YouTube and filming
videos and honestly throughout my
Journey I've just kind of felt like
there is so much that I've been wanting
to talk about and also teach other new
seers like I have a background in
teaching and it just feels really
natural to me and I really miss the
community here but I'll be honest I just
don't miss Beauty at all so yeah if like
sewing and estate sales and upcycling
and the rifting and all that sort of
stuff is interesting to you I really
look forward to taking on this journey
and hopefully you come along with me but
today I am waiting outside right now for
an estate sale to open up and
specifically I'm interested in some of
like the Linens and the Fabrics at this
estate sale there is a small bin of
fabrics and thankfully like I've noticed
that a lot of times Fabrics don't get
taken up when a state Sals happen the
first day it's all full price sometimes
you can haggle but the next day day to
of an estate sale it is usually all 50%
off sometimes if the sale is good I'll
go both days but I'm just coming in on
half day and hopefully we get some good
fabric but people are getting ready to
go outside of the house and I'm going to
go wait outside with them so these are
all the Fabrics I got from the first
sale this really cute star pattern one
this was actually a baby blanket and it
was a little pricier than the other
Fabrics but it was super cute very soft
a couple couple of really cute floral
patterns I love a vintage style kind of
striped Floral Pattern like this a
couple of solid Fabrics I feel like I
can never have enough solids and I was
definitely lacking yellow and then I was
lacking red as well so picked up three
solids these really gorgeous purple
satins a small amount of this yellow
gangam gangam is like one those prints I
feel like you can pair with any print
like why would that be cute you know
what I mean and then I got this star
patterned one and then I also got this
container for thread to hold thread but
all this fabric I want you to guess how
much I got it for four bucks four buaron
these were the four zippers I got one
kind of off-white one three red zippers
I got some singer needles and and then I
got a larger seam ripper I wasn't sure
if I was going to go to other sales
today but one thing on my list was a
small gift bag for my little Nanny kid I
nanny a couple times a week it's his
birthday party today and I made him I
cannot wait to get home and show you
guys I made him the cutest little I'm
calling it The William collection
because I made him a little hat a
crossbody and a little keychain I asked
if there was something that I can make
him for his birthday and he requested a
blue fuzzy hat and when I tell you I
nailed it like I nailed the blue fuzzy
hat I thrifted a blue fleece jacket and
I had some leftover fabric at the end so
I made him a little crossbody and the
little keychain so yeah I am going to go
to two other estate sales they're a
little further away from here but they
they're not closer to my house but like
they're closer to my house from here so
it's fine like I'll just go ahead and go
I'm walking up to the third house now I
just finished up at the second house and
there wasn't anything I probably
wouldn't have come to the third one if I
found things at the second house but I
found nothing at the second house so at
the third one now there was a lot of
stuff and this is actually a demo house
so they're going to demolish it so like
every single thing is on sale I feel
like if I find things I like I probably
could get even more of a discount than
50% off so we'll see

when there's like unfinished projects
makes me
sad I just don't know about the red and
green it's giving Christmas I got a very
small amount of fabric this one and then
also just like another very small amount
of that one and then I took home her
incomplete projects so we have like this
quilting panel that she was going to
work on and then we have this one that
was priced at $4 some of the things were
ridiculously priced in there but that's
a super cute panel I think that would be
like adorable on a quilted tote and then
I got this basket it was originally 18
and I almost stepped away from it but I
was just thinking about how much I liked
it I think I'm going to put my quilting
squares in this like I need to start
being better about collecting my scraps
and making quilting squares and
stitching them together and storing them
and I think that having this cute little
basket to put them in it's ceramic
adorable I got all that for $10 I asked
if she would do 10 for everything and
she accepted having all this fabric
technically be a do is so expensive
compared to what I got at that first
sale for 4 bucks estate sales are really
different depending on who's running
them there are some companies that I
won't even bother going to because I
know that they're going to be
ridiculously priced and not interested
in haggling and I just don't have time
or the money for that and good luck to
them like good luck to them but yeah I'm
just not interested in that I did not
find a little bag for my nanny kid I
think I'm just going to to try and wrap
it up with something that I have at home
my office has just become a huge huge
mess it truly is always a mess this is
my sewing machine singer heavy duty I
turned this little Ikea cart that was
holding just like random art supplies I
turned it into exclusively sewing stuff
my desk is like a crazy crazy mess I do
want to get this room a bit in order
this is going to be really chaotic for a
minute but I just need to get this all
sorted out on Facebook Marketplace I
picked up a lot of like four huge bags
of fabric for 40 bucks and it resulted
in a lot of great great Fabrics but it
also resulted in just having an
abundance of fabrics that like I don't
know if I can really imagine using and I
have used some stuff like this floral
fabric right here I turned into a floor
pillow because I am working on the floor
a lot I was noticing like it's really
uncomfortable and I made a floor pillow
actually out of a mattress pad that I
got at an estate sale on a half off day
that was in the bag like it hadn't been
used and I cut it up into the square and
then I made a floor pillow I need to
stitch it up to finish it but you know
it's usable and like this floral fabric
is pretty but it's super super dated
like I could could really
imagine doing like a clothing piece with
it this one again it's like super dated
this fabric is pretty cute actually but
I do just have a lot of it and then
these Fabrics I haven't attempted to use
yet yeah I think like these would make
really pretty curtains I bet like this
could honestly end up being like a
really pretty dress or skirt as a
beginner sewer I do have a ton a ton of
fabric and and I am getting more of it
pretty frequently honestly because I do
go to estate sales I got all these at an
estate sale and these are adorable but
like the big lot that I picked up from
Facebook I did get a lot of good Fabrics
like this one I think is really cute I
got this adorable Cherry patterned one
that is so so cute I think like this is
gorgeous with the peirs on it like I a
lot of really great stuff came out of
that big Facebook lot but also I got a
lot of stuff that I probably wouldn't
use like
this like I don't really know if I like
that very much I don't have much of this
fabric but how stunning is
that I actually passed this up on day
one of an estate sale but I went back
the next day because there were a few
things that I wanted but like just not
full price and it was still there and it
is so pretty I cannot believe I passed
it up the first time but I got it half
off so it was meant to be this is where
I'm at so far I'm making a lot of
progress I feel like it always looks
like I have way more fabric than I do
when it's a mess and just like when you
organize everything it looks so much
more tidy and neat I've still got a lot
more work to do so I'm going to continue
getting things organized but that is
what I'm working with right
[Music]
now all right I've reached a point where
I have to stop but I'm really happy with
all the progress I've made the desk is
like my next part that I need to do and
then this section over here but I'm
getting this corkboard up tomorrow when
we got a drill and I think that will
help a lot as well I have like some
random things I would want to put on
there before I wrap this up I wanted to
show you all the little hat that I made
and it is also
reversible with like another blue fabric
that I thrifted here's the little
keychain I ended up making like two long
strips like this and I was going to use
them as the straps for the bag but it
ended up being way too thick for the
needle to go through like on my sewing
machine so I ended up turning that strap
into a keychain and then I went with
this for the bag it's just like a little
8x8 square that I did and it ended up
looking like this and then I used the
same fabric from the hat for the lining
of the bag and also the strap but it is
so stinking adorable I cannot wait to
give it to him this is the panel that I
bought yesterday in the wash some of the
red dye started bleeding but I think
it's okay I think it still looks pretty
cute this is an
alisso iron it's their small mini
project iron I actually bought this on
Facebook Marketplace I really really try
and stay committed to not buying new
things although it is kind
of
unavoidable I think like if you had a
lot of time to really commit it doesn't
need to be unavoidable but like for
example I just purchased new bobbins
like empty bobbins from Amazon I really
wanted this weekend to be a good weekend
to find some but none of the houses that
I went to this weekend had bobbins I
needed to buy some I just felt like it
was a better option for me than just
continuing to cut out the thread from
the four bobbins that I have but overall
I do really try and commit to purchasing
secondhand and this was a secondhand
iron
is
this is the finished board I love how
organized this looks and just how this
is keeping things off of the floor off
of my desk off of this off of this cart
that was already overflowing I think I'm
going to utilize this little basket as
like a little trash bin for any fabric
scraps and thread that I just went off
of the table this just gets so messy
after like a few hours like a few
minutes of sewing this just gets so
messy I usually do all my cutting on the
floor but this is the first time I'm
going to be doing it
on the desk and
[Music]
[Applause]
standing
that was honestly a lot
nicer not cutting on the floor to do
like a lot of maneuvering
and sometimes everything doesn't come
out great but yeah honestly my desk has
just not been clean enough like I just
haven't had the room this is for
Justin's Mom it is a Stephanie Joe
sewing pattern it's a hanging pod I will
leave a link to it down below this was
like one of the first sewing projects I
did and one that I was like super proud
of it is super super beginner friendly
in my opinion and obviously super handy
Justin's mom wanted one she wanted one
in this green
pineapple pattern that I have this was a
fabric that I got from that Facebook
Marketplace lot but you just cut it at a
fold so that it comes out like that I'm
going to sew it along this line that's
not at the fold and then this down
here
[Laughter]
I just did the same thing to the lining
this is why a seam roller is important I
also thrifted this I got this out an
estate sale with some amazing sewing
finds like that was such a good sale but
this way you get really nice crisp seams
without having to iron flot and putting
new like ironing folds in a rounded part
you know what I
mean
I forgot that I needed a strap so I'm
just going to iron a scrap piece of the
grain fabric some of these Fabrics have
been just in storage for like I said
decades but I have put a ton of them
through the wash they just have like
these crazy like almost permanent
creases there are some some downfalls of
thrifting Fabric and not getting new one
of which is like the condition that the
fabric is going to be in sometimes you
just aren't like totally sure it's
obviously not going to be new and then
another thing is also you don't 100%
know what the fabric is exactly I feel
like you know it's easy to tell like
cotton I think like these Fabrics are
cotton but some of the other stuff like
the shiny stuff the satiny stuff I just
am not totally sure especially with me
being pretty inexperienced so that's
just another thing is like you can't be
100% sure of like what the fabric is and
what the care of the fabric is going to
be but whenever I do Thrift a fabric it
does just go like straight into the wash
that big face bur Marketplace like lot
that I did I went into the woman's home
and I spoke to her and her daughter for
a little while and I didn't get around
to washing all that fabric like it was
so much of it at once and I also was
very new and I was worried about washing
it I didn't know like what to expect but
the first time I thrifted fabric from an
estate sale I got home and the fabric
smelled really weird and I was like okay
I just have to like risk it and throw
this on the wash so I washed that and it
was totally fine like the edges got a
little KN it up but it was like stuff
that I would have cut off anyway but
after I washed that fabric I felt
comfortable washing everything else and
I've gotten around to washing mostly
everything and yeah just don't be afraid
to wash your thrifted fabric I highly
recommend you do
so I just added a little extra length to
the hook part because this is a little
bit too small like once it gets folded
up it's a little bit too small for like
most areas I also like want there to not
be stigma around thrifted Fabrics
because also the amount of ironing you
do on your projects like no germs are
surviving the amount of ironing and
steaming and everything like that that
you're doing the bacteria just has no
chance it just has no chance for this
next part you just line up the seams the
directions say to kind of like slightly
offline the seams but I cannot do that
the reason why you don't completely line
up the seams is just so it like lays a
little
flatter but I don't have that problem
you're going to sew down here you're
going to sew down
[Applause]
here
so you're going to flip the bag right
side out the lining is going to stay the
way that it is with like the seams out
and you're going to
tuck the facing fabric
inside sorry I'll have to work on like a
better angle to film all these in you
want to align your seams and there are
little notches that you can put inside
of the bag I really recommend not to
like skip out on those I am guilty and I
actually have one project that I have
completely abandoned because of the
notches like I didn't do them and I
really should have and I think I do want
to actually want to do a video on that
of just like revisiting that particular
abandoned project and your straps are
going to go in between the two Fabrics
I'm remembering as I'm going you tuck it
inside sorry if I was out of focus that
whole time it has to be tucked
inside because when you flip the bag
out everything will be all good so now
we're going to sew all
around always back stitch especially
when you're like on the last part and
you're going to need to pull it out
because if you don't back
stitch the seam will come totally out
when you're trying to like pull the bag
out I put my camera on the charger for
like 2 seconds just cuz it was going to
die and I put the battery back in
because this is the best
part I don't know if I left a big enough
hole there's not like a ton going on
with this project so felt like the hole
didn't need to be that big it might just
be kind of like a struggle and I might
need to iron it a little bit but
this is the best part of anything that
you
do with
sewing yeah this is a really really tiny
hole that I've left myself but it is
okay it
will oh my God okay
well it's all right we just we have to
keep
going
we're we're getting
there oh goodness okay look it's just
going to need a good iron it's so
wrinkled now I'm going to put a button
there I'm going to iron this I'm going
to top Stitch it and it'll be good to go
I'm absolutely going to leave this
pattern down below and you guys should
totally make it if you were new to
sewing or if you're not new to sewing
it's just a really good handy little
piece and the best thing about sewing is
when you can use it and this is very
usable I just finished making a bigger
hat for my nanny kid we went to his
birthday party it was super cute and he
loved the hat in the bag that I made him
we were the first people at the party
and he opened up his gift before anyone
got there and he wore the hat in the bag
the entire night it was the cutest thing
but the Hat was a little too small which
I mean it did not bother him one bit but
I had to make him another hat I had the
exact amount of fabric left from that
jacket that I thrifted to make him
another I will leave the pattern that I
used down below it's a free pattern just
um one that you can download for free
but if you are making it for a kid I
mean this kid just turned six and the
children's size of the Hat was too small
so they have baby children teenager
adult and then like a larger adult size
so I just made him the teenager one I
think this is fine too like it even if
it's a little too big for him let me try
it on yeah I think that'll fit him cuz I
think I would do then like the adult
size and this seems like it would fit
him well it definitely looks handmade
but I'm going
to top Stitch around the edge just so
that all this lays a little flat but I
hope that he likes this bigger size and
maybe he can use the smaller size for
his stuffy immediately after coming home
from the party I took out the scraps I
had left from the jacket and I started
like measuring everything to make sure
that I had enough because I knew
immediately I needed to make him a
burger one the hat is finished this is
the inside but it's a reversible bucket
hat so you can wear it this way too yeah
I did a top stitching here and then I
have a top stitching going all around to
connect them I am getting a bit better
at my top stitching it's definitely
something that I'm working on but if I
can get the two ends to meet up like
where I started and where I'm finishing
if I can get them to meet up that is a
success we never talked about my updated
fabric situation so solids here I have
some of the printed like plaid and Ganga
prints over here and then also some
eyelet Fabrics I have my larger amount
of printed Fabrics folded up in this
area and then in this basket I decided
to put Fabrics that I it's not like
technically scrap Fabrics I would have
enough for like one or two smaller
projects it is so annoying when like
these Fabrics are folded up among some
of these larger amounts of fabrics and
then I'm like Ying them out to get these
like very tiny amounts here are some of
the Fabrics that I picked up at the
estate sales the other day I haven't
made surprisingly a tote bag yet I feel
like I should make my first tote bag
with this one and then maybe like the
light blue fabric or or I could do a
pink because there's some pink in there
or red I'm really happy to have a solid
red we picked this up at the estate sale
the other day because I have this
adorable Cherry printed fabric and I've
been waiting for a solid red fabric to
do something with this I'm thinking an
apron of some sort for my sister and
then up here I have some Fabrics that
are like satiny silky I don't really
think I have any silks in here but these
Fabrics I am not confident enough to use
just yet these are something that I
definitely want to use eventually
especially when I get into making
clothes and then this is just the best
thing I'm so glad that we have this I've
already been utilizing it so much and it
is way easier for me to clean up because
these things actually have places to go
now I'm going to wrap up today's video
here though thank you all so much for
watching I hope that you enjoyed seeing
some new content of just something that
I have been loving lately and just feels
like way more true to myself I would
also love to know your relationship to
sewing whether you do it or you grew up
with family members that did it or even
if it's something that you are
interested in doing but you haven't you
know taken the steps to do so I would
just love to know your relationship to
sewing it felt really good to be back
filming and just talking about something
that I really care about at the moment
and I'm really excited to film other
videos in the future I already have some
more ideas of sewing related and just
kind of like estate sale related
thrifting related upcycling all those
sorts of things I already have so many
ideas that I want to just get out there
but yeah thank you so much for watching
today's video I really hope that you
enjoyed it if you aren't already
subscribed definitely go ahead and do so
and hopefully I will see you next time
