0:00 hi everyone it's been quite a long time
0:02 I am just fully going to do a channel
0:05 pivot here I got a sewing machine for
0:07 Christmas I've been sewing regularly for
0:09 about a month now and I love it it is
0:13 like a hobby that I just am so in love
0:16 with probably my favorite hobby I've
0:18 ever had and for a while now like since
0:21 over the summer I've been super into
0:23 going to estate sales and I have really
0:25 missed being on YouTube and filming
0:27 videos and honestly throughout my
0:30 Journey I've just kind of felt like
0:32 there is so much that I've been wanting
0:33 to talk about and also teach other new
0:37 seers like I have a background in
0:39 teaching and it just feels really
0:41 natural to me and I really miss the
0:43 community here but I'll be honest I just
0:46 don't miss Beauty at all so yeah if like
0:49 sewing and estate sales and upcycling
0:52 and the rifting and all that sort of
0:54 stuff is interesting to you I really
0:58 look forward to taking on this journey
1:00 and hopefully you come along with me but
1:04 today I am waiting outside right now for
1:06 an estate sale to open up and
1:09 specifically I'm interested in some of
1:11 like the Linens and the Fabrics at this
1:14 estate sale there is a small bin of
1:16 fabrics and thankfully like I've noticed
1:20 that a lot of times Fabrics don't get
1:22 taken up when a state Sals happen the
1:24 first day it's all full price sometimes
1:27 you can haggle but the next day day to
1:30 of an estate sale it is usually all 50%
1:33 off sometimes if the sale is good I'll
1:35 go both days but I'm just coming in on
1:39 half day and hopefully we get some good
1:42 fabric but people are getting ready to
1:43 go outside of the house and I'm going to
1:47 go wait outside with them so these are
1:48 all the Fabrics I got from the first
1:50 sale this really cute star pattern one
1:52 this was actually a baby blanket and it
1:55 was a little pricier than the other
1:56 Fabrics but it was super cute very soft
1:59 a couple couple of really cute floral
2:01 patterns I love a vintage style kind of
2:06 striped Floral Pattern like this a
2:08 couple of solid Fabrics I feel like I
2:11 can never have enough solids and I was
2:13 definitely lacking yellow and then I was
2:16 lacking red as well so picked up three
2:21 solids these really gorgeous purple
2:24 satins a small amount of this yellow
2:27 gangam gangam is like one those prints I
2:30 feel like you can pair with any print
2:32 like why would that be cute you know
2:34 what I mean and then I got this star
2:37 patterned one and then I also got this
2:40 container for thread to hold thread but
2:43 all this fabric I want you to guess how
2:46 much I got it for four bucks four buaron
2:50 these were the four zippers I got one
2:52 kind of off-white one three red zippers
2:56 I got some singer needles and and then I
3:00 got a larger seam ripper I wasn't sure
3:02 if I was going to go to other sales
3:04 today but one thing on my list was a
3:07 small gift bag for my little Nanny kid I
3:11 nanny a couple times a week it's his
3:13 birthday party today and I made him I
3:15 cannot wait to get home and show you
3:16 guys I made him the cutest little I'm
3:21 calling it The William collection
3:23 because I made him a little hat a
3:25 crossbody and a little keychain I asked
3:28 if there was something that I can make
3:30 him for his birthday and he requested a
3:31 blue fuzzy hat and when I tell you I
3:34 nailed it like I nailed the blue fuzzy
3:36 hat I thrifted a blue fleece jacket and
3:40 I had some leftover fabric at the end so
3:43 I made him a little crossbody and the
3:44 little keychain so yeah I am going to go
3:46 to two other estate sales they're a
3:48 little further away from here but they
3:51 they're not closer to my house but like
3:53 they're closer to my house from here so
3:56 it's fine like I'll just go ahead and go
3:59 I'm walking up to the third house now I
4:01 just finished up at the second house and
4:03 there wasn't anything I probably
4:05 wouldn't have come to the third one if I
4:07 found things at the second house but I
4:10 found nothing at the second house so at
4:12 the third one now there was a lot of
4:14 stuff and this is actually a demo house
4:16 so they're going to demolish it so like
4:19 every single thing is on sale I feel
4:23 like if I find things I like I probably
4:25 could get even more of a discount than
4:27 50% off so we'll see

5:10 when there's like unfinished projects
5:13 makes me
5:15 sad I just don't know about the red and
5:17 green it's giving Christmas I got a very
5:19 small amount of fabric this one and then
5:22 also just like another very small amount
5:24 of that one and then I took home her
5:28 incomplete projects so we have like this
5:31 quilting panel that she was going to
5:33 work on and then we have this one that
5:38 was priced at $4 some of the things were
5:41 ridiculously priced in there but that's
5:43 a super cute panel I think that would be
5:45 like adorable on a quilted tote and then
5:48 I got this basket it was originally 18
5:52 and I almost stepped away from it but I
5:54 was just thinking about how much I liked
5:55 it I think I'm going to put my quilting
5:58 squares in this like I need to start
6:01 being better about collecting my scraps
6:04 and making quilting squares and
6:06 stitching them together and storing them
6:08 and I think that having this cute little
6:11 basket to put them in it's ceramic
6:13 adorable I got all that for $10 I asked
6:16 if she would do 10 for everything and
6:18 she accepted having all this fabric
6:21 technically be a do is so expensive
6:26 compared to what I got at that first
6:29 sale for 4 bucks estate sales are really
6:32 different depending on who's running
6:34 them there are some companies that I
6:38 won't even bother going to because I
6:39 know that they're going to be
6:40 ridiculously priced and not interested
6:42 in haggling and I just don't have time
6:45 or the money for that and good luck to
6:48 them like good luck to them but yeah I'm
6:53 just not interested in that I did not
6:54 find a little bag for my nanny kid I
6:58 think I'm just going to to try and wrap
7:01 it up with something that I have at home
7:03 my office has just become a huge huge
7:07 mess it truly is always a mess this is
7:09 my sewing machine singer heavy duty I
7:13 turned this little Ikea cart that was
7:15 holding just like random art supplies I
7:18 turned it into exclusively sewing stuff
7:22 my desk is like a crazy crazy mess I do
7:26 want to get this room a bit in order
7:28 this is going to be really chaotic for a
7:29 minute but I just need to get this all
7:31 sorted out on Facebook Marketplace I
7:34 picked up a lot of like four huge bags
7:39 of fabric for 40 bucks and it resulted
7:43 in a lot of great great Fabrics but it
7:45 also resulted in just having an
7:48 abundance of fabrics that like I don't
7:51 know if I can really imagine using and I
7:53 have used some stuff like this floral
7:57 fabric right here I turned into a floor
7:59 pillow because I am working on the floor
8:01 a lot I was noticing like it's really
8:03 uncomfortable and I made a floor pillow
8:06 actually out of a mattress pad that I
8:09 got at an estate sale on a half off day
8:12 that was in the bag like it hadn't been
8:14 used and I cut it up into the square and
8:17 then I made a floor pillow I need to
8:20 stitch it up to finish it but you know
8:22 it's usable and like this floral fabric
8:25 is pretty but it's super super dated
8:28 like I could could really
8:30 imagine doing like a clothing piece with
8:33 it this one again it's like super dated
8:36 this fabric is pretty cute actually but
8:38 I do just have a lot of it and then
8:40 these Fabrics I haven't attempted to use
8:44 yet yeah I think like these would make
8:47 really pretty curtains I bet like this
8:51 could honestly end up being like a
8:52 really pretty dress or skirt as a
8:54 beginner sewer I do have a ton a ton of
8:58 fabric and and I am getting more of it
9:01 pretty frequently honestly because I do
9:04 go to estate sales I got all these at an
9:06 estate sale and these are adorable but
9:09 like the big lot that I picked up from
9:11 Facebook I did get a lot of good Fabrics
9:13 like this one I think is really cute I
9:15 got this adorable Cherry patterned one
9:19 that is so so cute I think like this is
9:23 gorgeous with the peirs on it like I a
9:26 lot of really great stuff came out of
9:28 that big Facebook lot but also I got a
9:31 lot of stuff that I probably wouldn't
9:32 use like
9:34 this like I don't really know if I like
9:37 that very much I don't have much of this
9:39 fabric but how stunning is
9:42 that I actually passed this up on day
9:46 one of an estate sale but I went back
9:48 the next day because there were a few
9:50 things that I wanted but like just not
9:51 full price and it was still there and it
9:54 is so pretty I cannot believe I passed
9:56 it up the first time but I got it half
9:58 off so it was meant to be this is where
10:00 I'm at so far I'm making a lot of
10:02 progress I feel like it always looks
10:04 like I have way more fabric than I do
10:06 when it's a mess and just like when you
10:09 organize everything it looks so much
10:10 more tidy and neat I've still got a lot
10:13 more work to do so I'm going to continue
10:17 getting things organized but that is
10:19 what I'm working with right
10:23 [Music]
10:27 now all right I've reached a point where
10:29 I have to stop but I'm really happy with
10:33 all the progress I've made the desk is
10:35 like my next part that I need to do and
10:38 then this section over here but I'm
10:40 getting this corkboard up tomorrow when
10:43 we got a drill and I think that will
10:45 help a lot as well I have like some
10:47 random things I would want to put on
10:48 there before I wrap this up I wanted to
10:50 show you all the little hat that I made
10:53 and it is also
10:56 reversible with like another blue fabric
10:59 that I thrifted here's the little
11:01 keychain I ended up making like two long
11:05 strips like this and I was going to use
11:06 them as the straps for the bag but it
11:09 ended up being way too thick for the
11:11 needle to go through like on my sewing
11:13 machine so I ended up turning that strap
11:15 into a keychain and then I went with
11:19 this for the bag it's just like a little
11:23 8x8 square that I did and it ended up
11:27 looking like this and then I used the
11:29 same fabric from the hat for the lining
11:31 of the bag and also the strap but it is
11:35 so stinking adorable I cannot wait to
11:37 give it to him this is the panel that I
11:39 bought yesterday in the wash some of the
11:41 red dye started bleeding but I think
11:44 it's okay I think it still looks pretty
11:47 cute this is an
11:49 alisso iron it's their small mini
11:53 project iron I actually bought this on
11:56 Facebook Marketplace I really really try
11:59 and stay committed to not buying new
12:02 things although it is kind
12:06 of
12:08 unavoidable I think like if you had a
12:12 lot of time to really commit it doesn't
12:14 need to be unavoidable but like for
12:17 example I just purchased new bobbins
12:20 like empty bobbins from Amazon I really
12:25 wanted this weekend to be a good weekend
12:28 to find some but none of the houses that
12:30 I went to this weekend had bobbins I
12:33 needed to buy some I just felt like it
12:36 was a better option for me than just
12:39 continuing to cut out the thread from
12:43 the four bobbins that I have but overall
12:46 I do really try and commit to purchasing
12:50 secondhand and this was a secondhand
12:57 iron
13:27 is
13:30 this is the finished board I love how
13:32 organized this looks and just how this
13:36 is keeping things off of the floor off
13:39 of my desk off of this off of this cart
13:42 that was already overflowing I think I'm
13:46 going to utilize this little basket as
13:48 like a little trash bin for any fabric
13:51 scraps and thread that I just went off
13:54 of the table this just gets so messy
13:57 after like a few hours like a few
14:00 minutes of sewing this just gets so
14:01 messy I usually do all my cutting on the
14:04 floor but this is the first time I'm
14:05 going to be doing it
14:07 on the desk and
14:10 [Music]
14:16 [Applause]
14:27 standing
14:45 that was honestly a lot
14:47 nicer not cutting on the floor to do
14:50 like a lot of maneuvering
14:53 and sometimes everything doesn't come
14:55 out great but yeah honestly my desk has
14:57 just not been clean enough like I just
15:00 haven't had the room this is for
15:01 Justin's Mom it is a Stephanie Joe
15:05 sewing pattern it's a hanging pod I will
15:08 leave a link to it down below this was
15:10 like one of the first sewing projects I
15:12 did and one that I was like super proud
15:15 of it is super super beginner friendly
15:18 in my opinion and obviously super handy
15:21 Justin's mom wanted one she wanted one
15:23 in this green
15:25 pineapple pattern that I have this was a
15:28 fabric that I got from that Facebook
15:30 Marketplace lot but you just cut it at a
15:34 fold so that it comes out like that I'm
15:36 going to sew it along this line that's
15:39 not at the fold and then this down
15:57 here
16:08 [Laughter]
16:17 I just did the same thing to the lining
16:20 this is why a seam roller is important I
16:24 also thrifted this I got this out an
16:26 estate sale with some amazing sewing
16:30 finds like that was such a good sale but
16:33 this way you get really nice crisp seams
16:35 without having to iron flot and putting
16:39 new like ironing folds in a rounded part
16:44 you know what I
16:57 mean
17:04 I forgot that I needed a strap so I'm
17:07 just going to iron a scrap piece of the
17:10 grain fabric some of these Fabrics have
17:13 been just in storage for like I said
17:16 decades but I have put a ton of them
17:19 through the wash they just have like
17:22 these crazy like almost permanent
17:26 creases there are some some downfalls of
17:31 thrifting Fabric and not getting new one
17:34 of which is like the condition that the
17:37 fabric is going to be in sometimes you
17:38 just aren't like totally sure it's
17:40 obviously not going to be new and then
17:43 another thing is also you don't 100%
17:47 know what the fabric is exactly I feel
17:50 like you know it's easy to tell like
17:52 cotton I think like these Fabrics are
17:55 cotton but some of the other stuff like
17:58 the shiny stuff the satiny stuff I just
18:01 am not totally sure especially with me
18:04 being pretty inexperienced so that's
18:06 just another thing is like you can't be
18:10 100% sure of like what the fabric is and
18:13 what the care of the fabric is going to
18:15 be but whenever I do Thrift a fabric it
18:19 does just go like straight into the wash
18:22 that big face bur Marketplace like lot
18:25 that I did I went into the woman's home
18:28 and I spoke to her and her daughter for
18:30 a little while and I didn't get around
18:32 to washing all that fabric like it was
18:35 so much of it at once and I also was
18:37 very new and I was worried about washing
18:39 it I didn't know like what to expect but
18:42 the first time I thrifted fabric from an
18:45 estate sale I got home and the fabric
18:47 smelled really weird and I was like okay
18:50 I just have to like risk it and throw
18:52 this on the wash so I washed that and it
18:53 was totally fine like the edges got a
18:57 little KN it up but it was like stuff
19:00 that I would have cut off anyway but
19:01 after I washed that fabric I felt
19:03 comfortable washing everything else and
19:06 I've gotten around to washing mostly
19:10 everything and yeah just don't be afraid
19:13 to wash your thrifted fabric I highly
19:16 recommend you do
19:18 so I just added a little extra length to
19:20 the hook part because this is a little
19:23 bit too small like once it gets folded
19:25 up it's a little bit too small for like
19:27 most areas I also like want there to not
19:31 be stigma around thrifted Fabrics
19:33 because also the amount of ironing you
19:36 do on your projects like no germs are
19:42 surviving the amount of ironing and
19:44 steaming and everything like that that
19:48 you're doing the bacteria just has no
19:51 chance it just has no chance for this
19:53 next part you just line up the seams the
19:57 directions say to kind of like slightly
20:01 offline the seams but I cannot do that
20:06 the reason why you don't completely line
20:07 up the seams is just so it like lays a
20:09 little
20:10 flatter but I don't have that problem
20:14 you're going to sew down here you're
20:15 going to sew down
20:20 [Applause]
20:27 here
20:31 so you're going to flip the bag right
20:33 side out the lining is going to stay the
20:37 way that it is with like the seams out
20:40 and you're going to
20:42 tuck the facing fabric
20:47 inside sorry I'll have to work on like a
20:49 better angle to film all these in you
20:52 want to align your seams and there are
20:56 little notches that you can put inside
20:58 of the bag I really recommend not to
21:01 like skip out on those I am guilty and I
21:05 actually have one project that I have
21:07 completely abandoned because of the
21:10 notches like I didn't do them and I
21:12 really should have and I think I do want
21:14 to actually want to do a video on that
21:16 of just like revisiting that particular
21:19 abandoned project and your straps are
21:22 going to go in between the two Fabrics
21:26 I'm remembering as I'm going you tuck it
21:29 inside sorry if I was out of focus that
21:31 whole time it has to be tucked
21:34 inside because when you flip the bag
21:37 out everything will be all good so now
21:41 we're going to sew all
21:44 around always back stitch especially
21:48 when you're like on the last part and
21:51 you're going to need to pull it out
21:52 because if you don't back
21:54 stitch the seam will come totally out
21:57 when you're trying to like pull the bag
22:01 out I put my camera on the charger for
22:03 like 2 seconds just cuz it was going to
22:06 die and I put the battery back in
22:09 because this is the best
22:10 part I don't know if I left a big enough
22:13 hole there's not like a ton going on
22:16 with this project so felt like the hole
22:19 didn't need to be that big it might just
22:23 be kind of like a struggle and I might
22:25 need to iron it a little bit but
22:29 this is the best part of anything that
22:33 you
22:34 do with
22:36 sewing yeah this is a really really tiny
22:41 hole that I've left myself but it is
22:44 okay it
22:46 will oh my God okay
22:51 well it's all right we just we have to
22:54 keep
22:56 going
22:58 we're we're getting
23:03 there oh goodness okay look it's just
23:08 going to need a good iron it's so
23:09 wrinkled now I'm going to put a button
23:11 there I'm going to iron this I'm going
23:13 to top Stitch it and it'll be good to go
23:18 I'm absolutely going to leave this
23:19 pattern down below and you guys should
23:20 totally make it if you were new to
23:22 sewing or if you're not new to sewing
23:23 it's just a really good handy little
23:25 piece and the best thing about sewing is
23:28 when you can use it and this is very
23:31 usable I just finished making a bigger
23:34 hat for my nanny kid we went to his
23:36 birthday party it was super cute and he
23:39 loved the hat in the bag that I made him
23:42 we were the first people at the party
23:43 and he opened up his gift before anyone
23:45 got there and he wore the hat in the bag
23:48 the entire night it was the cutest thing
23:51 but the Hat was a little too small which
23:55 I mean it did not bother him one bit but
23:58 I had to make him another hat I had the
24:01 exact amount of fabric left from that
24:03 jacket that I thrifted to make him
24:06 another I will leave the pattern that I
24:08 used down below it's a free pattern just
24:12 um one that you can download for free
24:15 but if you are making it for a kid I
24:17 mean this kid just turned six and the
24:19 children's size of the Hat was too small
24:23 so they have baby children teenager
24:27 adult and then like a larger adult size
24:30 so I just made him the teenager one I
24:32 think this is fine too like it even if
24:34 it's a little too big for him let me try
24:37 it on yeah I think that'll fit him cuz I
24:40 think I would do then like the adult
24:43 size and this seems like it would fit
24:47 him well it definitely looks handmade
24:51 but I'm going
24:53 to top Stitch around the edge just so
24:56 that all this lays a little flat but I
24:58 hope that he likes this bigger size and
25:00 maybe he can use the smaller size for
25:03 his stuffy immediately after coming home
25:06 from the party I took out the scraps I
25:09 had left from the jacket and I started
25:11 like measuring everything to make sure
25:14 that I had enough because I knew
25:16 immediately I needed to make him a
25:18 burger one the hat is finished this is
25:21 the inside but it's a reversible bucket
25:24 hat so you can wear it this way too yeah
25:27 I did a top stitching here and then I
25:29 have a top stitching going all around to
25:31 connect them I am getting a bit better
25:35 at my top stitching it's definitely
25:37 something that I'm working on but if I
25:40 can get the two ends to meet up like
25:43 where I started and where I'm finishing
25:45 if I can get them to meet up that is a
25:47 success we never talked about my updated
25:49 fabric situation so solids here I have
25:54 some of the printed like plaid and Ganga
25:58 prints over here and then also some
26:00 eyelet Fabrics I have my larger amount
26:04 of printed Fabrics folded up in this
26:07 area and then in this basket I decided
26:09 to put Fabrics that I it's not like
26:13 technically scrap Fabrics I would have
26:15 enough for like one or two smaller
26:18 projects it is so annoying when like
26:20 these Fabrics are folded up among some
26:22 of these larger amounts of fabrics and
26:25 then I'm like Ying them out to get these
26:29 like very tiny amounts here are some of
26:32 the Fabrics that I picked up at the
26:33 estate sales the other day I haven't
26:36 made surprisingly a tote bag yet I feel
26:38 like I should make my first tote bag
26:39 with this one and then maybe like the
26:42 light blue fabric or or I could do a
26:45 pink because there's some pink in there
26:47 or red I'm really happy to have a solid
26:50 red we picked this up at the estate sale
26:52 the other day because I have this
26:54 adorable Cherry printed fabric and I've
26:58 been waiting for a solid red fabric to
27:00 do something with this I'm thinking an
27:03 apron of some sort for my sister and
27:06 then up here I have some Fabrics that
27:09 are like satiny silky I don't really
27:12 think I have any silks in here but these
27:15 Fabrics I am not confident enough to use
27:19 just yet these are something that I
27:21 definitely want to use eventually
27:23 especially when I get into making
27:25 clothes and then this is just the best
27:27 thing I'm so glad that we have this I've
27:29 already been utilizing it so much and it
27:31 is way easier for me to clean up because
27:34 these things actually have places to go
27:36 now I'm going to wrap up today's video
27:38 here though thank you all so much for
27:40 watching I hope that you enjoyed seeing
27:41 some new content of just something that
27:45 I have been loving lately and just feels
27:48 like way more true to myself I would
27:50 also love to know your relationship to
27:53 sewing whether you do it or you grew up
27:55 with family members that did it or even
27:58 if it's something that you are
27:59 interested in doing but you haven't you
28:01 know taken the steps to do so I would
28:03 just love to know your relationship to
28:06 sewing it felt really good to be back
28:09 filming and just talking about something
28:12 that I really care about at the moment
28:14 and I'm really excited to film other
28:17 videos in the future I already have some
28:19 more ideas of sewing related and just
28:21 kind of like estate sale related
28:23 thrifting related upcycling all those
28:27 sorts of things I already have so many
28:29 ideas that I want to just get out there
28:32 but yeah thank you so much for watching
28:33 today's video I really hope that you
28:34 enjoyed it if you aren't already
28:36 subscribed definitely go ahead and do so
28:38 and hopefully I will see you next time
