Floretic has developed a novel, rapid, growth-free diagnostic platform called "Verified" that enables veterinarians to quickly identify bacterial pathogens and their antibiotic susceptibility directly from patient samples, aiming to improve evidence-based antibiotic prescribing in veterinary medicine.

Can you hear me? Okay, great.
Right. So, hi everyone. Uh, this
afternoon I'll be talking to you about
our verified platform which will help
with um effectively bringing us closer
to evidence-based uh antibiotic
prescribing. As a starting point, a
little bit about us at Floretic. We're a
spin out of the University of Bristol.
Um and our focus is on the grow
development of rapid growth-free point
of care tests for effective diagnosis of
bacterial infections. We've got a
growing IP portfolio and recognition
from um various bodies. But probably
what we're most proud about is that
we've developed this technology like the
business from the ground up.
In terms of our team, we've got a
assembler team with uh research,
development, and commercialization
experience. And um we're still proudly
founder led led. I'm one of three
founders of the business and we are well
supported by a group of industry professionals.
professionals.
So we've been known for the last few
years as a UTI focused company and the
problem as it sits within the veterary
context is that data shows 14% of dogs
and up to 45% of older cats will get UTI
at some point. And the key challenge for
vets is can I get this pet on the right
antibiotic prescription or the right
antibiotic before the infection becomes
either persistent or untreatable. And
the key reason for that is getting from
symptom to the right treatment today you
need to go for a multi-day lab test.
What's really needed actually is a test
that allows the vets to match the
infection to the right treatment in the
first consultation. And I think the
previous speaker mentioned that and
that's exactly what we do. So our
verified platform enables the
identification of the the causitive
pathogen within just 15 minutes direct
from sample. And our sci-fi platform
does the antibiotic susceptibility test
within just 30 minutes as well. And
what's unique about these platforms is
that they achieve this. They're
phenotypic, but they achieve this
without the need to grow bacteria, which
makes them scalable to multiple types of
infection. So, today I'll talk mostly
about our verify platform. Um, and
verify vet will be our first product.
That's the MVP version of it, not the
production one. And it's a 15-minute um
UTI test direct from sample. And it's
based on our Nanoplex technology
platform. So,
I knew the music was going to come.
There we go. Just in case you were
falling asleep. So, um,
effectively the way it works is it uses
functionalized uh, latex beads. So, glycans,
glycans,
um, synthetic glycans mimic the
interaction between bacteria and
epithelial tissue. And so, by having a
library of glycans, we can target
different types of bacteria direct from
sample. And in the process what happens
is our probes get introduced to the
sample and they attach kind of like
velcro forming these structures that you
see on the left. So where the target
species is present you get these
lomerates or clusters that are analyzed
using computer vision and therefore
allow us to be able to identify and
quantify the bacteria in the sample. The
workflow itself is pretty
straightforward. um so much so that
we've enabled we've trained um vet care
assistants to be able to do it
reproducibly and we're quite proud of
that. And now I'm just going to share
with you um a bit of an output from our
collaboration with CVS and Axiom Labs.
So earlier in the year we collected
samples from cats and dogs urine samples
and tested those um for the most common
pathogens and this data was also present
presented at ECVIM in Mastri. So if
you're there, apologies, you're hearing
the talk twice. So the protocol, the
sensitivity protocol involves 69
isolates. And we say isolates because
those samples had to be tested at the
lab first. And in order to maintain the
integrity of the pathogen, they were
plated and then sent to us and then
reconstituted in urine for us to test.
So the key pathogens were E.coli,
Klepsiali, Proteius Morabilis. And as
you can see in terms of the split
between canine and feline, 3/4ers of the
samples were actually canine. And they
were collected across a range of
sampling techniques. And that's really
important because that really affects
the um the potential for contamination
etc that could happen. And uh just to
give you the summary of it, we achieved
overall sensitivity of 91% testing
across these species and across sampling
techniques. And likewise um for
specificity we received 203 samples most
of which were um canine um and again
across free catch systo and catheterized
most of them we did not get the data on
how they were collected so um it was
pretty much open to that of these we
kept 30 just around 34 of them I think
for actual pre-validation of the the the
or QC of the the um instrument and then
went through with 169 of these culture
negative urines. So these were actual
urines sent through directly from the
lab and um overall we had uh specificity
of 92% regardless of the sampling
technique or the um potential for any of
these pathogens. And what I'd like to
round off with is that the next step for
us really is placing these um the
verified system within vets. So we have
a limited number of spaces left for
veterinary practices who are innovative
and are looking to access um these new
technologies to be part of our
technology access partnership. So
there's a QR code on screen. If you are
part of one of these practices or you
think you know someone who might be
interested, please do scan through and
register interest. On that note, I will
>> There's a question over there. >> Yeah.
>> Okay. So, the current cost is actually
on par with culture and sensitivity. So
effectively there's no uplift for the
So we tested at the threshold. So uh the
10^ the 5 that included 10 to the 5 CFP
per mill. So below that is um not
considered an active infection in that
case. So this is representative of sort
