0:00 what's up guys justin here with the
0:03 cg essentials.com back with another
0:05 blender animation tutorial for you today
0:08 so in today's video we're going to talk
0:09 about a way you can create an animation
0:11 where all the different parts and pieces
0:13 of something kind of fly apart and then
0:15 they fly
0:16 back together so we're going to call
0:17 this the exploded view
0:19 animation and let's go ahead and just
0:20 jump into it all right so this is
0:22 actually a model that i've downloaded
0:23 from the sketchup
0:25 3d warehouse so um you can download that
0:28 inside of sketchup
0:29 and the model is called the wooden clock
0:31 with digital indication
0:33 and it is by oleg chipetko
0:36 so you can download that model in the
0:38 sketchup warehouse
0:39 and then i've imported it using the
0:42 sketchup importer extension
0:44 i will link to a video about that in the
0:45 notes down below but the reason i like
0:47 this is because when you bring this in
0:50 these different parts and pieces come in
0:52 as separate
0:53 groups right so there's separate
0:55 geometry in here so i don't need to do
0:56 like a separate by loose parts or
0:58 anything like that
0:59 um and if you have any questions about
1:00 that leave a comment down below but you
1:02 are going to want something where all
1:04 the different parts and pieces
1:05 are in here as separate objects that
1:08 show up as separate objects over here in
1:09 your outliner
1:11 so now i've imported that but what i
1:13 want to do is i want to create an
1:15 animation where these parts
1:16 kind of fly forward and fly back
1:19 like we were taking this apart and
1:21 looking at the way the different pieces
1:23 come together this can be a little bit
1:25 tricky so we could just tap the a key
1:27 and select everything and scale it right
1:29 but the problem with scaling it
1:31 is all that's doing is it's stretching
1:33 the pieces out but they're still
1:35 um connected to each other that's a
1:37 little bit of a problem because we want
1:38 the pieces to actually fly
1:40 apart right and so the cool thing about
1:42 this is each one of these because
1:43 they're individual objects has its own
1:45 origin
1:46 in here which is going to help us out
1:48 and so what we want to do
1:50 is we want to tap the a key to select
1:53 everything but we're going to go
1:54 into our active tool and workspace
1:56 settings and you're going to look
1:58 for the option for transform and we're
2:01 going to select the option for effect
2:02 only
2:03 locations and so what that does is that
2:05 means that if we were to come in here
2:06 and scale this
2:08 this is only going to scale these based
2:10 on their locations in the 3d space
2:12 so if i tap the s key for example notice
2:15 how now
2:16 when i scale these the different parts
2:18 and pieces are flying apart
2:21 right and so what that means is that
2:23 means that gives us an easy way to have
2:25 all of our parts and pieces come apart
2:27 inside of blender so one thing i'm going
2:30 to do
2:30 is instead of just tapping the s key i'm
2:32 going to tap the s key
2:34 and then i'm going to tap the y key
2:36 because what that's going to do is
2:37 that's just going to scale things along
2:39 this green
2:39 axis and so before the
2:43 before we do this there's something that
2:44 we're going to want to do right and what
2:46 we're going to want to do
2:47 is we're going to want to start by
2:48 keyframing our start
2:50 and end points so the way that we're
2:52 going to do that
2:53 is we're just going to select this whole
2:55 thing and we're going to start by
2:56 tapping the i
2:57 key and we're going to keyframe the
3:00 object location
3:01 so i'm going to click in here and
3:02 keyframe the location
3:04 well now what that's done is that's
3:06 created a start point where everything
3:08 is
3:09 in place and so there's a little trick
3:11 here and maybe one of you knows
3:12 why this is so you would think that the
3:15 next thing we want to do
3:16 is pick a point halfway into our
3:18 animation and then keyframe the
3:20 locations again
3:21 right so you'd want to come in here
3:23 keyframe this and keyframe the location
3:26 and then maybe just copy this original
3:30 keyframe
3:31 and then paste it and our final point
3:34 well the problem with that
3:35 and i think it has something to do with
3:37 the applying of the rotation and scale
3:40 the problem with that is for some reason
3:42 if you do it this way
3:43 these pieces all come back together but
3:45 their rotations are all messed up
3:48 and so that's a little bit of a problem
3:49 that's not necessarily what we want
3:51 so what we're going to do instead is
3:53 we're just going to before we keyframe
3:55 this middle point
3:56 we're just going to keyframe our end so
3:58 we're just going to go back here
4:00 and so i basically just undid this and
4:02 so i'm just going to add a keyframe
4:04 at frame 100 so i'm just going to type
4:06 the i key and i'm going to keyframe
4:08 the location again and so now
4:11 we have two points in here that are
4:14 going to act as our start and our
4:15 end well now what i want to do is i want
4:17 to scale this
4:19 on the y-axis like this right
4:22 so i'm on keyframe 50 and i want to
4:24 scale this right here
4:26 and then i just want to insert a
4:27 keyframe for location
4:29 and so you can see how what that did is
4:30 that added a keyframe
4:32 right here well now if you come in here
4:35 and click play
4:36 what that's going to do is that's going
4:37 to keyframe this moving out and it's
4:39 going to keyframe it moving back
4:40 in so it basically gives you this
4:42 animation in here
4:44 that you can use in order to create this
4:46 exploded view
4:47 and so then there's a few other things
4:49 we could do like for example we could
4:50 add a camera
4:51 so maybe just do a shift a right here
4:55 and hit the zero key make sure that you
4:58 have locked your camera
4:59 to your view
5:06 like this then now
5:10 we have a camera that's looking at this
5:12 exploded view
5:13 and so one thing we might want to do is
5:15 we might want to have this camera kind
5:16 of fly around
5:17 this exploded view so to do that we're
5:20 just going to set our keyframe to zero
5:22 with our camera selected we're going to
5:24 insert a keyframe
5:25 that includes our location and rotation
5:28 so i'm going to click right here
5:29 in order to do that the keyframe 50
5:35 i'm going to orbit my camera around
5:38 like this so that my camera is over here
5:41 then i'll just
5:42 insert by typing i another location
5:46 and rotation keyframe and so what that's
5:48 going to do
5:49 is that's going to set this up so that
5:51 our camera flies around this object
5:54 as we go and so for this one i think
5:56 that you probably could come in here and
5:57 just select this
5:59 and just copy and then paste this
6:02 keyframe
6:03 so what that's going to do is that's
6:04 just gonna take your camera back right
6:06 so your camera's gonna fly over here as
6:08 a part of that animation
6:09 and back over here and so you could do
6:11 that however you want
6:12 you might just delete this keyframe as
6:14 well so not really that big of a deal
6:16 one way or the other
6:17 um you might even take this keyframe
6:19 select it and then just tap the g
6:21 key and just move it to keyframe 100
6:24 like this so then you'll have your
6:26 camera flying across across here
6:28 but it's going to be a lot slower and so
6:31 then from there you could render
6:33 your animation or export your animation
6:35 so what i might do
6:36 i'm gonna hit the zero key in order to
6:38 get out of my camera view
6:39 but what i might do is i might add a
6:41 couple lights or something like that
6:43 so that when this renders out it's gonna
6:45 look nice then we can just set our clip
6:49 up so that it has a length of 100 and
6:52 for now
6:52 i'm just going to set this as an ev
6:54 render because that way it's going to
6:56 render in real time
6:57 then we can just go down to our render
7:00 settings
7:01 set this so that we're exporting to i'm
7:03 just going to do an avi jpeg
7:05 i'll go ahead and set my folder and then
7:07 we'll just set this to render so we'll
7:09 just click on render animation
7:10 and it's going to go through and it's
7:11 going to render out all those different
7:14 frames
7:16 so you can see how when we do this in
7:18 evie
7:19 it's going to render a lot faster but
7:21 we're not going to get the same
7:24 quality of image as we would inside of
7:26 cycles
7:28 and then we'll just go open up our
7:29 render result and so if we open that
7:31 render file up
7:32 you can see that it's going to look
7:33 something like this and so from here
7:35 there's a lot of different things you
7:36 could do to adjust this to make it
7:38 faster
7:38 or slower or other things like that but
7:40 in general this is going to let you
7:42 create a real easy exploded view
7:44 animation inside of blender
7:46 so that's from in this video leave a
7:48 comment below and let me know what you
7:49 thought have you done anything like this
7:50 do you have any tips for this kind of
7:52 animation
