0:04 Windows 10 fortunately there are simple
0:06 tweaks that you can perform to speed up
0:08 your internet I'll show you step by step
0:09 starting out with the easier tips and
0:11 ending with those for advanced users

0:22 before making any changes you'll want to
0:25 check the current status of your
0:26 internet there are many websites for
0:28 testing your internet speed one of the
0:30 most popular is speed test I'm using
0:33 their app from the Microsoft Store but
0:35 you can also go to their website which
0:37 is speedtest.net to run a test the ping
0:40 measured in milliseconds will let you
0:41 know how fast you get a response after
0:43 you send out a request the lower the
0:45 number the better a fast ping means a
0:48 more responsive connection it will also
0:50 test your download speed which is how
0:51 fast you can pull data from the server
0:53 to your computer and your upload speed
0:55 is how fast your data is sent from your
0:57 computer to others whether you use speed
0:59 test or another internet speed testing
1:01 site or app it's always a good idea to
1:03 check it periodically to make sure that
1:04 you're getting the advertised speeds
1:06 from your internet service provider
1:09 first we'll modify the DNS servers DNS
1:13 stands for domain name system quite
1:15 simply it's a process that translates
1:17 domain names into IP addresses using DNS
1:21 servers not assigned by your ISP
1:23 can make your internet faster to change
1:26 your DNS server go to the search box and
1:28 type control panel click on it find
1:33 Network and sharing Center and selected
1:36 on the left side of this window click on
1:39 change adapter settings right click on
1:44 the internet you're using and select
1:46 properties go down to Internet Protocol
1:50 version 4 select it to highlight it make
1:53 sure that's checked and select
1:55 properties in the bottom half of this
1:59 new window click on use the following
2:01 DNS server addresses in this example
2:05 we'll use Google's own public DNS for
2:09 preferred DNS server enter 8 8 8 8 and
2:13 for alternate DNS server enter 8 8 4 4
2:18 when you're done click on ok that's all
2:22 there is to it if you want to try out
2:24 other DNS servers I'll put a link in the
2:27 description to a site with an updated
2:29 list of other free DNS providers others
2:32 I'd recommend from this list
2:33 our Open DNS and CloudFlare this next
2:38 one is overlooked by most people but can
2:40 have an impact on your internet speed
2:42 turn off any apps or services that can
2:45 run in the background even if you're not
2:47 using them left click on the Start menu
2:49 and select settings click on privacy in
2:55 the left pane scroll down and find
2:58 background apps and select it now just
3:04 go through the apps listed and turn off
3:06 the ones that you don't want running in
3:07 the background tying up system resources
3:09 and feeding off your internet while
3:13 we're in the settings menu let's turn
3:14 off peer-to-peer updates click on home
3:18 in the upper left select update and
3:22 security now click on Advanced Options
3:27 then click on delivery optimization down
3:32 here where it says allow downloads from
3:34 other pcs toggle to switch off with this
3:38 turned off you don't need to worry about
3:40 others in your household or strangers
3:42 using your valuable Internet resources
3:44 when I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple
3:47 years back this was turned on by default
3:49 shame on you Microsoft turning off the
3:54 automatic updates for Windows is not a
3:56 long-term fix but can be useful for
3:58 those times you need your internet
4:00 speeds to be at their peak go to the
4:03 search bar and type services click on it
4:08 scroll all the way down and double-click
4:11 on Windows Update if the service status
4:15 says running click on stop then change
4:19 the startup type from automatic to
4:21 disable then hit apply or ok to save
4:25 your changes
4:25 just remember to turn it back on you
4:28 wouldn't want to miss all the great new
4:30 updates that might delete your files or
4:32 could possibly give you the blue screen
4:33 of death some of you know what I'm
4:35 talking about if your only means of
4:39 connecting to the Internet is via Wi-Fi
4:41 it may benefit you to change the
4:43 wireless channel on your router if you
4:46 have multiple users on
4:47 same Wi-Fi channel that can slow down
4:49 the internet for everyone on that
4:50 channel this is common in apartment
4:52 buildings or tightly packed
4:54 neighborhoods to find out which channels
4:56 have the least congestion go to the
4:58 Windows Store and install Wi-Fi analyzer
5:01 open it up and select the analyze tab
5:05 this graph shows the Wi-Fi strength in
5:08 your area I'm currently on the
5:10 recommended channel which is 11 but if I
5:13 were on channel 4 or 5 I would want to
5:15 change the channel to 11 in the router
5:17 settings at this time I won't do a full
5:21 tutorial on how to access your wireless
5:22 settings which can vary depending on
5:24 which router you own you just need to
5:27 find the option to change the channel
5:28 and switch it to the recommended Channel
5:31 if your previously on a congested
5:34 Channel after making the switch you
5:36 should notice an improvement to your
5:37 internet speed lso which stands for
5:42 large send off load is a technique of
5:44 improving network performance while at
5:46 the same time reducing CPU overhead in
5:49 theory it sounds great in practice it
5:52 has been known to cause performance and
5:54 slowdown issues to disable it in the
5:57 search bar type device manager and
6:00 selected go down to network adapters and
6:04 click the arrow to expand it in the list
6:07 double click on your network card if you
6:10 connect via ethernet select Ethernet
6:13 controller you can connect via Wi-Fi
6:15 select wireless adapter in this example
6:18 I'll select Ethernet controller go to
6:22 the advanced tab in the list select
6:25 large send off load V to ipv4 and set
6:29 the value to disabled if you have large
6:34 send off load V to ipv6 set that value
6:37 to disabled as well when you're done
6:40 click OK if you experience any issues
6:43 you can re-enable it at any time windows
6:48 10 by default
6:50 keeps away 20% of your internet
6:52 bandwidth for its operating system and
6:54 other related tasks which means you only
6:57 have 80 percent of your bandwidth that
6:59 you can actually use
7:00 here are the steps to get that 20% back
7:02 for you to use you will need to access
7:05 the group policy editor for this one
7:07 which is only available by default for
7:10 the pro edition of Windows 10 if you're
7:12 using the Home Edition your first step
7:14 is to enable the group policy editor
7:16 I've put a link in the description but
7:18 the steps needed to enable it to get
7:21 started open the run window by selecting
7:24 the Windows key + R on your keyboard or
7:27 you could right click on the Start menu
7:29 icon and select run in the search box
7:33 type gpedit.msc hit enter on your
7:38 keyboard or click on ok be careful in
7:42 this window this is how IT
7:44 administrators keep you locked out of
7:45 programs and keep you from making
7:47 certain changes in the left pane click
7:50 on computer configuration double click
7:54 on administrative templates double click
7:58 Network then double click QoS packet
8:02 scheduler where it says limit reservable
8:05 bandwidth double click on it to open a
8:08 new window choose enabled then change
8:11 the bandwidth limit to 0 when you're
8:15 done making the changes click on apply
8:17 then ok to exit other than changing your
8:20 DNS server the tip I just showed you in
8:22 my experience is the most useful in this
8:25 video for increasing the overall speed
