0:01 hey guys it's Morgan welcome to my
0:03 channel if you're new here click the
0:05 Subscribe button down below today is
0:07 April 25th and I will be reading my udub
0:09 essays this has been a highly requested
0:11 video considering the amount of people
0:13 who watched my college decision video
0:14 thank you so much guys by the way for
0:16 the nice comment they're so sweet and
0:17 I'm just so thankful to have so much of
0:19 a support system on this platform I
0:21 decided I'll be splitting up my stats
0:22 into different videos so today's video
0:24 will be reading my essays but later I'll
0:26 have like teacher letter of Rex
0:28 extracurriculars GPA stuff like that so
0:30 without further Ado let's get into to
0:33 the essay reading oh God I have not read
0:36 these in like a while so for udub I
0:37 wrote two different essays one was
0:39 optional while the other was required so
0:40 I'm going to read the required one first
0:42 because that's shorter in short the
0:44 required prompt is describe the world
0:46 you come from and how you as a product
0:48 of it might add to that diversity of
0:51 udub and then this word count was 300 so
0:52 I'm going to read mine really quick and
0:54 then I'll explain after each homecoming
0:56 year I choreograph a dance called
0:58 mockrock which incorporates over 60
1:00 people from my grade through many
1:02 attempts I come to understand the most
1:03 effective way to create a successful
1:05 performance which is through student
1:07 input during the past 2 years I have
1:08 asked different groups of students to
1:10 help me choreograph and give music
1:12 suggestions I slit feedback by
1:14 face-to-face Communication in front of
1:15 the big group during rehearsals
1:17 motivating everybody to contribute to
1:20 the conversation simultaneously I'm
1:21 attentive to those who may be hesitant
1:23 to speak up leading me to individually
1:25 ask for input while recognizing the
1:28 value of each perspective furthermore I
1:29 organize smaller groups to practice
1:31 together together and even mix up
1:32 formations to bridge the gap between
1:35 unfamiliar faces within the small groups
1:36 choreographers encourage the
1:38 participants to self-manage their
1:40 interpretations of the dance providing
1:41 everybody a chance to give input and
1:43 feel part of the group by nurturing
1:45 inclusivity mockrock has grown to
1:48 contain over 100 participants and is
1:49 known for strongly tying our class
1:52 Community together at udub I hope to
1:53 make the same positive impact on the
1:55 student body by utilizing my peers ideas
1:59 and feedback via asuw I intend to
2:01 conduct Fair ious polls and distribute
2:02 Google forms to gather the preferences
2:04 of the student body regarding upcoming
2:06 events subsequently I will work in
2:09 collaboration with asuw to effectively
2:11 utilize the student input consistently
2:13 aiming to make the next event even
2:14 better than the last my ability to
2:16 actively listen and include others
2:18 perspectives will be advantagous to my
2:20 peers academic and personal experiences
2:22 at udub I strive to embrace various
2:24 viewpoints enabling me to maintain an
2:26 open mind and attempt to understand the
2:28 complexity of a wide range of new ideas
2:31 and Concepts okay so that was 1 not as
2:32 bad as I thought but definitely could
2:34 still use some work I think for context
2:37 asuw is udub student government and so
2:38 I've been involved in leadership for
2:40 like four years at my high school I
2:41 definitely want to continue that in
2:42 college here I use mockrock as my
2:44 example and it's good to note that class
2:46 officers aren't required to choreograph
2:47 the dance and can find someone else in
2:49 the grade to do it for them but because
2:50 I really wanted to be involved with the
2:52 like face to-face Communication in my
2:54 grade I decided to step up to the play
2:56 and take on the responsibility and it's
2:57 probably one of the best decisions of my
2:59 high school career but yeah I definitely
3:01 think this was such an impactful
3:03 activity in my years of high school so
3:04 really just write what you're genuinely
3:06 passionate about because it will shine
3:07 through moving on to the second essay
3:09 prompt that's optional it says tell a
3:11 story from your life describing an
3:12 experience that either demonstrates your
3:14 character or helped to shape it and the
3:17 maximum length is 650 Words which if you
3:19 don't know is basically the common up
3:20 essay Comm up essay is like a personal
3:23 statement of like just one big story
3:25 normally you focus in on one specific
3:26 topic and then you show how you grow
3:27 from it I would like to know the essay
3:29 I'm about to read was definitely edited
3:31 for my IVs and turned into like an
3:33 extended metaphor if that's going to
3:35 make sense later basically what I'm
3:36 trying to say is it's the same exact
3:39 concept but I did add like my grandpa
3:41 into it which was not added in before
3:42 technically I'm R the one that was
3:44 submitted to higher schools because I
3:46 got more time to work on it then but I'm
3:49 really really really proud of this essay
3:51 I just find so much joy in reading it so
3:53 I hope you guys like it and this took me
3:56 a long time like 20 30 drafts
3:59 exaggeration but basically it was a lot
4:01 the sound of tiles shuffled away into
4:03 piles feeds the anxiousness that lies in
4:06 our stomachs eyes quickly scrutinize the
4:08 table this is how I recall the
4:10 atmosphere of Majong a traditional
4:12 Chinese game that involves many
4:14 intricacies and strategies from playing
4:16 Majong with my grandparents many times
4:18 after dinner I've come to realize the
4:19 complexity of problem solving
4:21 adaptability and most importantly
4:23 leadership my grandpa was a man of few
4:25 words but observing his strategic towel
4:26 withdrawals revealed the careful
4:29 crafting logic and skill that existed
4:31 Within each move of such a fast-paced
4:33 game through planning major events for
4:34 the student body as freshman and
4:36 sophomore class president I felt the
4:38 same throw as bong however when my
4:40 junior year Focus turns toward my
4:42 academics I voluntarily ran for the
4:44 smaller role of class secretary
4:45 immediately I grew discouraged by the
4:47 Limited autonomy I perceived in my new
4:49 position the frustration of lacking
4:51 control brewed inside of me all summer
4:53 making it seem as if maang tiles were
4:55 crashing down and every right move had
4:58 transitioned into a wrong one or so I
5:01 thought I constantly questioned how
5:02 could I find purpose without being the
5:05 designated leader each time my grandpa
5:07 played maong he utilized a different
5:09 strategy nonetheless the willingness of
5:11 his actions made the most powerful
5:13 impact and I would quickly become aware
5:15 of such potency in my own life my
5:16 intense Focus while modering the tiles
5:18 in majang was similar to how I observed
5:20 the president who approached his role
5:22 uniquely despite lacking prior
5:24 leadership experience one day when our
5:26 officer team was organizing our class
5:28 bonding event the president proposed a
5:30 new idea distribut in Google forms and
5:32 conducting polls on social media this
5:34 strategy would enable our team to
5:36 connect with a broader range of students
5:38 Gathering different feedback by watching
5:39 the President successfully reach out to
5:41 my peers I found the significance of
5:43 looking Beyond simple steps to achieve
5:45 inclusion my curiosity about how the
5:47 president handled his new role mirrored
5:49 my contemplation of the various patterns
5:50 my grandpa employed through numerous
5:52 majon games the president's
5:54 resourcefulness led him to find success
5:57 instead of Leaning solely on rudimentary
5:59 leadership tactics the president showed
6:02 me the value of the side tiles in maang
6:04 I used to only play the most powerful
6:06 tile sequences similar to my leadership
6:08 style I believe the only way to be
6:10 effective was through bold tried and
6:13 tested ways yet I would lose day after
6:15 day to my grandpa his hands decisively
6:17 grabbed three tiles and exposed them on
6:20 the table pong my grandpa stated with
6:22 confidence he had won the willingness to
6:25 forge his own path ended up rewarding my
6:27 grandpa after exploring the new
6:28 president's strengths I've learned that
6:30 authentic leadership is not about
6:32 keeping the spotlight on yourself
6:34 instead effective leadership comes from
6:35 recognizing the value of your team's
6:38 diverse perspectives in my new role as
6:40 this year's ASB president I can approach
6:42 my new class officer team with a fresh
6:44 mindset I've implemented the successes I
6:46 saw from the junior class president I
6:48 now communicate more efficiently with my
6:50 four ASB officers through in-person
6:52 meetings individually reach out to
6:54 students outside of the class's typical
6:56 participants and gather input in Google
6:57 forms to present to the
6:59 administration with student feedback
7:01 back I've ensured that the leadership
7:03 class organizes events that work towards
7:05 equity and inclusion specifically I've
7:07 devised event planning projects
7:08 challenging leadership students to
7:10 create events that Foster Unity within
7:13 our school Community rhes the way I
7:15 utilize my grandpa maong plays resembles
7:17 my ability to learn from others today
7:19 when I've given a tile at the Majong
7:21 table I carry on my grandfather's
7:22 tradition of utilizing the least
7:25 powerful tiles and find myself saying pa
7:28 okay that was 635 worth out of the 650
7:30 allowed I definitely want to know that
7:31 like whatever your personal statement is
7:34 about make sure it's about you and make
7:36 it really unique for example I tie this
7:37 in with my culture and found a specific
7:40 thing within the culture to talk about
7:41 and then I further use that as an
7:43 extended metaphor to talk about my
7:44 reflection through my leadership process
7:46 and my junior year so yeah those are my
7:48 essays I really hope you guys enjoy it
7:50 big shout out to the junior class
7:52 president Darius who actually helped me
7:55 write this essay so grateful for him so
7:56 yeah I hope you guys enjoyed this Essie
7:59 reading video more to come for sure so
8:01 if you like this video give it a thumbs
