0:01 hi this is aj and it's time for secret
0:05 or rule number two
0:08 for excellent english speaking now this
0:10 one i think
0:12 is going to be your favorite i think
0:14 this is going to be your favorite secret
0:16 because
0:17 most of our subscribers most of our
0:20 students tell us this is the one they
0:22 love that they loved hearing this
0:25 that it set them free
0:27 so what is it
0:29 what is secret number two
0:32 secret number two is this
0:35 never
0:37 again
0:39 study grammar rules
0:42 you're finished with grammar
0:44 no more
0:46 never study grammar rules
0:50 now i know this may be a big surprise
0:53 this is a surprise for a lot of people
0:55 for a lot of our students a lot of our
0:57 subscribers a lot of our members
0:59 when they first hear this rule they're
1:02 they're shocked they're surprised and
1:04 they think
1:05 well
1:06 is is that true could that be possible
1:11 maybe you're feeling a little unsure
1:13 about this particular secret or rule
1:17 well that's natural
1:19 the reason it seems shocking or
1:21 surprising is that
1:23 all your
1:24 life that you have been learning english
1:29 your teachers have been telling you
1:32 study grammar study grammar study
1:35 grammar grammar is the secret grammar is
1:38 the secret to english grammar grammar
1:40 grammar grammar i don't know exactly
1:43 when you started
1:44 studying english
1:46 maybe in elementary school when you were
1:48 young
1:49 maybe in middle school or high school
1:51 when you're a bit older
1:53 maybe later than that but i'm sure that
1:55 in school
1:57 your teachers told you grammar was the
1:59 key grammar was super important you had
2:02 to study all these grammar rules you had
2:04 to know the the past and the past
2:07 perfect and the present and the present
2:09 perfect and the present progressive and
2:11 the future perfect progressive you had
2:13 to know what all of that stuff was and
2:16 how to do all of the changes to the
2:18 verbs and you had to know possessives of
2:20 course and then there were all the
2:22 prepositions
2:24 endless grammar
2:26 you had to memorize all of these rules
2:30 and probably most of your english
2:32 classes were focused on these grammar
2:34 rules and then taking tests about these
2:37 grammar rules
2:40 it doesn't work
2:41 stop doing it you're finished
2:44 in our system no grammar rule study
2:49 now some people when they hear this they
2:51 think no no that's not right and they
2:53 don't they don't believe me
2:55 so i have only one question for you
2:58 you have been
3:00 learning these grammar rules for years
3:02 and years and years
3:05 my simple question is
3:07 did it work
3:11 can you now
3:12 speak english
3:14 easily
3:16 quickly
3:17 and automatically
3:20 is your grammar correct when you speak
3:24 or do you still
3:26 make mistakes
3:28 with simple grammar like the like the
3:30 past tense
3:33 i mean if you're a fantastic amazing
3:35 english speaker probably
3:37 you don't need to watch this video
3:39 but i'm guessing if you're watching this
3:41 it means you're not a great english
3:43 speaker you do not have excellent
3:46 english speaking
3:47 and yet you know so much grammar i
3:50 guarantee
3:51 you know more grammar than i do
3:55 because i don't think about this stuff
3:56 when i speak english i just use it
3:59 automatically
4:01 i don't need to think about the past
4:03 tense
4:05 or the present perfect or anything else
4:07 it just comes out correctly usually i
4:10 make mistakes sometimes like everyone
4:12 but normally it just comes out
4:14 when you speak your own language
4:16 do you think about grammar rules
4:19 of course not
4:22 see
4:23 here's the problem with grammar rules
4:25 they cause you to think about english so
4:28 you are always analyzing it meaning
4:31 you're always thinking about it all the
4:33 time
4:34 now for writing
4:36 that's okay
4:38 i mean even when i write in english
4:40 sometimes i might stop for a minute and
4:43 think oh wait wait what's the grammar
4:44 for that
4:45 not usually but sometimes maybe
4:50 why can i do that why can you do that
4:52 well because of course with writing you
4:54 have plenty of time there's no there's
4:56 no pressure there's no speed you can
4:59 write very very very slowly
5:02 and then you can go and you can write
5:04 the same thing again and then you can
5:06 show it to somebody and say is this
5:08 correct and they can say oh no you know
5:10 change this and then you can write it
5:12 again
5:13 all of that is possible with writing
5:15 so you know if you want to study grammar
5:17 rules for writing you know okay but
5:19 here's the problem for speaking there is
5:21 no time
5:23 if i walk up to you and i say hey how's
5:25 it going what did you do yesterday
5:29 you have no time to be thinking about
5:31 grammar
5:33 which tense is it and what do i say
5:35 there's no time you need to answer
5:38 immediately instantly automatically
5:42 and when you speak that grammar needs to
5:45 be correct automatically
5:48 you can't be thinking about it
5:50 you can't be trying to remember some
5:52 grammar rule
5:53 no if you are thinking about grammar
5:55 rules it causes you to speak slowly
5:58 causes you to hesitate and stop a lot
6:02 and when you're listening to people if
6:04 you're thinking about grammar you're not
6:06 really hearing them very well
6:09 it causes huge problems you have to stop
6:11 studying grammar no more
6:16 see native speakers meaning people who
6:18 grow up learning english we never study
6:20 grammar
6:22 i never studied grammar until
6:24 high school
6:25 when i was about 16 years old we started
6:28 studying some grammar but it was just
6:30 for writing it was just for academic
6:32 writing for writing for school
6:35 kind of papers that's all
6:37 but by then i already used correct
6:39 spoken grammar perfectly
6:43 so how did i learn grammar as a child
6:46 how does it happen every american child
6:49 learns to speak with
6:51 good english grammar most at least do
6:55 how do they do it if they don't study
6:56 grammar rules well we talked about it in
6:58 secret number one first of all they're
7:00 learning it from phrases
7:03 natural phrases and there's a few other
7:06 ways that they're learning grammar which
7:07 we'll talk about
7:09 in some of our future secrets or rules
7:13 but the point is they are not studying
7:15 grammar rules they do not get themselves
7:17 confused
7:18 with grammar rules if you're thinking
7:20 about grammar rules you're going to be
7:21 confused it's going to hurt your
7:24 speaking ability so you must stop
7:28 now and never do it again
7:31 in fact here's what i want you to do
7:33 go grab all your grammar books english
7:36 grammar books and put them on top of
7:39 each other
7:40 and then burn them
7:42 get a fire put some gasoline on there
7:44 and whoa
7:46 and let the fire come up and if you want
7:48 you can dance around it woohoo and
7:50 celebrate and smile and jump around
7:52 because you are free of english grammar
7:55 no more with our system you will never
7:58 study another grammar rule again i
8:02 promise you
8:03 and that should make you happy because i
8:04 know that grammar rules cause a lot of
8:07 pain
8:08 a lot of boredom
8:10 a lot of frustration
8:13 nobody likes them
8:15 so just forget it so this is good news
8:17 today secret number two rule number two
8:20 is great news
8:21 throw away your grammar books burn them
8:24 have a party celebrate because you will
8:27 never study grammar rules again
8:31 and that is secret number two
8:33 i'll see you again tomorrow for a very
8:35 important secret
