0:06 paper or an assignment and now you've
0:08 come to the part where You' have to
0:10 write your literature review and you're
0:13 wondering what is a literature review
0:16 how do I go about writing one how many
0:19 papers will I have to read is there an
0:22 AI tool that can help make my job easier
0:24 well for all these things you should
0:26 definitely check this [Music]
0:28 [Music] video
0:34 hi everyone I am Niha agal I'm the
0:37 founder ofis of communications and in
0:39 this video we are going to talk all
0:41 about writing a literature review I'm
0:43 also going to share with you a very
0:46 special AI tool that is going to make
0:48 your literature search super easy so
0:51 without further delay let's get started
0:53 first let's understand what is a
0:55 literature review so if we break this
0:58 down literature here means the writing
1:01 or the work of others and review means
1:05 analysis so in simple terms literature
1:07 review means the analysis of the writing
1:10 or work that has been carried out by
1:13 others now this literature review can be
1:15 a part of a bigger document for example
1:18 a research paper or it can be an
1:20 independent document itself for example
1:22 a college assignment to write a
1:24 literature review on a particular topic
1:27 now it's part of a research paper then
1:29 this section appears usually after the
1:32 introduction ction section and before
1:35 the research methodology section so now
1:36 how do we go about writing a literature
1:39 review so literature review can actually
1:41 be split into three distinct sections
1:44 which is the introduction the body and the
1:50 conclusion as part of the introduction
1:52 section you would first introduce the
1:55 topic as to why is even the topic worth
1:57 reviewing if your literature review is
1:59 part of a bigger research paper then in
2:01 that case you can also share the
2:03 research Gap or the problem statement of
2:06 your work then you will go on to Define
2:08 some of the key terms or share certain
2:11 important Concepts that will be
2:14 highlighted in your review once you've
2:16 done that you can give an overview of
2:18 the topics that will be covered in your
2:21 review or basically what information are
2:23 you going to share in your review you
2:27 can just give an overview of that then
2:29 you can share how your review has been
2:31 organized or basically what are the
2:34 different categories of topics that you
2:36 will be reviewing or how is the
2:38 information me categorized into
2:41 different topics then you can share the
2:43 scope of your literature review so
2:45 basically what are the class of research
2:47 papers that you are going to review or
2:50 not review what is the reason behind
2:52 that so what you will do is you will set
2:55 the boundary of your literature review
2:58 and all of these things together form
3:00 the introduction section of of your
3:03 literature review next comes the body of
3:05 your literature review and this is the
3:07 most important section of your review
3:08 because this is where you're going to
3:11 share the work that has been carried out
3:14 by others but before we get into that
3:16 I'm going to share with you this amazing
3:18 AI tool that is going to make your
3:21 literature search super easy and that is
3:24 our Discovery our Discovery acts like
3:26 your companion in this literature search
3:28 process it provides you with
3:30 personalized recommendation ions from
3:33 your area of research so that you don't
3:35 miss out on important articles and that
3:38 too in social media style so that it is
3:41 easy for you to consume in fact based on
3:43 your search it also shows you similar
3:46 papers ensuring that you are able to do
3:48 a thorough literature survey once you
3:50 open a research paper to enhance your
3:53 reading experience it provides you with
3:55 summaries audio reading of titles and
3:58 abstracts and also converts or
4:00 translates the text into your own
4:03 language now to organize all your
4:04 research papers it allows you to
4:07 segregate them in different categories
4:09 by bookmarking them into different
4:11 reading lists you can also share your
4:13 literature survey very easily with other
4:16 people in fact even on social media like
4:19 LinkedIn and Twitter and most
4:22 importantly it allows you to export your
4:24 literature to a reference management
4:27 software like zoto or mlay making your
4:30 research paper writing such a breeze so
4:32 overall I think this is such a fantastic
4:35 tool for all your literature survey
4:37 needs now if you think it won't show as
4:40 many search results don't worry because
4:43 our Discovery has a huge database of
4:46 Articles including 115 million plus
4:49 research papers 40 million plus Open
4:53 Access articles 32,000 plus journals and
4:55 tie ups with some of the biggest
4:58 publishing houses to ensure that you get
5:01 the best content at your fingertips in
5:04 fact the best part I like about this is
5:06 that our Discovery is easily accessible
5:09 through the web or the app on your phone
5:11 so you should definitely check it out
5:18 you now before you start writing it's
5:20 important to think about how are you
5:23 going to organize this section first is
5:25 chronological order and this is the
5:28 simplest approach because here you share
5:30 how the development of the topic has
5:33 taken place over time this also gives a
5:35 very good understanding to your audience
5:38 as to how that field has evolved over
5:40 time and what is the current stage of
5:43 research in that field but one thing
5:46 that you need to note here is don't just
5:49 list down all the literature one by one
5:52 but instead focus on the turning points
5:54 the patterns that have actually shaped
5:57 the direction of that field and this is
5:59 going to add more value to your or
6:02 literature review the second approach
6:04 that I've seen being most commonly used
6:07 is methodological a lot of the times you
6:09 might be writing a review on a topic
6:11 where different sources have used
6:13 different methodologies so in that case
6:16 you can also review the results and
6:18 conclusion of the methodologies that are
6:20 followed by the different sources for
6:23 example qualitative versus quantitative
6:25 or theoretical versus experimental and
6:28 then give your comparative analysis
6:30 about it the other two approaches are
6:33 thematic and theoretical you can use the
6:35 Thematic approach when your research
6:37 topic has different themes to it for
6:39 example if I'm writing a review on solar
6:41 cells then different themes could be
6:43 materials used to make solar cells or
6:47 applications of solar cells and finally
6:49 the last one is theoretical so say for
6:51 example your research has different
6:53 theoretical Frameworks or models
6:55 involved in it then you can do a
6:57 contrast and comparison of these various
6:59 Frameworks various models or you can
7:01 also summarize all this information and
7:04 share that in your study now that you
7:05 know how to organize the body of your
7:08 literature review the next thing is to
7:10 understand how to write this body now
7:12 one very important thing you need to
7:14 remember here is that simply stating
7:16 what other people have done and just
7:19 citing the literature is not enough you
7:22 need to share the analysis of what other
7:24 people have done and you need to share
7:27 your own point of view so instead of
7:29 Simply paraphrasing the literature this
7:31 is what you should be doing first
7:34 summarize and synthesize try to group
7:36 similar literature together and then
7:39 share the main points of each Source
7:43 second analyze and interpret try to
7:45 share your interpretation wherever
7:47 possible and then also discuss the
7:50 significance of the findings of these
7:52 different research papers when it comes
7:55 to your own topic of literature review
7:58 and finally critically evaluate share
8:00 the trend and weaknesses of the
8:02 different sources of the different
8:05 research papers to give a complete
8:08 evaluation in your literature review in
8:10 fact in this way you will be able to
8:13 analyze the work of others and go to a
8:15 deeper level of understanding about
8:17 their research rather than simply
8:20 stating their findings now this is
8:22 something that differentiates a good
8:24 literature review from a not so good one
8:27 now the final section is the conclusion
8:29 if your literature review is an
8:31 independent study then very similar to a
8:34 research paper you will first reiterate
8:36 what was the purpose of taking up this
8:38 review and what were some of the
8:40 important research questions that you
8:42 were trying to answer then you should
8:44 share what were the findings that you
8:47 came across after doing an extensive
8:50 literature survey like this then you
8:52 should draw conclusions from your study
8:55 for example how can this research field
8:57 be taken forward or what are the various
9:00 applications that can be explored in
9:02 this field of course this will vary from
9:05 topic to topic but the idea here is to
9:08 share the conclusions or significance of
9:10 your research study and what does it
9:13 mean for your audience but if your
9:14 literature review is part of a research
9:17 paper then the important thing to share
9:19 is that after an extensive literature
9:22 survey what is the plan of action that
9:24 you have arrived at which will help in
9:26 overcoming that research gap or the
9:29 problem statement which forms the object
9:32 Ive of your study and then you can close
9:33 this section by sharing the significance
9:36 of the study and how do you plan to make
9:38 an impact and now to answer the most
9:41 common question that all of you ask me
9:43 is how many papers should I read for my
9:46 literature review well the answer is it
9:49 varies for example if you're writing a
9:51 literature review for a college
9:53 assignment sometimes the university will
9:55 ask you to only review three to four
9:57 papers if you're writing a literature
9:59 review for a research article sometimes
10:02 you might need to site at least 30 to 40
10:04 papers or if your literature review is
10:06 actually part of a review paper that
10:08 you're writing then sometimes the number
10:12 goes up to 70 to 100 papers or even more
10:14 but this number is very subjective
10:16 because it varies from topic to topic
10:18 and the kind of literature review that
10:21 you're working on now to make this
10:23 entire process easy for you I have
10:26 actually listed down a lot of AI Tools
10:28 in my past two videos which you can
10:30 check out and of course along with that
10:33 don't forget to use our Discovery and
10:35 now thank you so much for watching this
