0:08 in the last decade artificial
0:10 intelligence has gone from a
0:12 science-fiction dream to a critical part
0:15 of our everyday lives we use AI systems
0:17 to interact with our phones through Siri
0:19 and Alexa cars like Tesla's interpret
0:21 and analyze their surroundings to
0:24 intelligently drive themselves Amazon
0:26 monitors our browsing habits and
0:28 intelligently serves us up products it
0:30 thinks we'd like to buy even Google
0:32 decides what kind of search results to
0:34 give us based on who it thinks we are
0:36 artificially intelligent algorithms are
0:39 here but this is only the beginning
0:42 because in the future AI is gonna change
0:52 everything but do we want it to well
0:54 what exactly is artificial intelligence
0:57 maybe a better question might be what
1:00 exactly is intelligence the simplest
1:02 descriptor is collecting data about the
1:04 world and using that data to make
1:05 predictions in the short and long term
1:08 that applies to both people and machines
1:11 so when we talk about AI in our lives
1:13 we're talking about everything from a
1:14 computer being able to read a
1:17 handwritten document like an OCR reader
1:19 to a robot performing complex surgery on
1:22 its own even to a massive database
1:24 categorizing your personality based on
1:26 what you've written and looked at online
1:29 because the world of AI is so incredibly
1:31 large let's take a look at some of the
1:32 most groundbreaking developments we
1:34 expect to see in the very near future
1:36 and whether that's a step forward or
1:39 backward for society first and foremost
1:41 AI systems are already primed to take
1:44 over thousands if not millions of jobs
1:47 any job that consists of a human taking
1:48 down information from other humans and
1:51 inputting it into a system is likely to
1:52 go obsolete
1:55 so cashiers receptionists telemarketers
1:57 and bank tellers are all on their way
2:00 out as self-driving cars self operating
2:02 drones and other conveyors from A to B
2:05 get more complex will also lose jobs
2:07 like truck drivers postal workers
2:10 courier services even pizza delivery
2:12 factories are also becoming fully
2:14 automated so our car washes and movie
2:16 theaters even my job as a journalist is
2:18 threatened by rapidly improving news
2:20 algorithms that can gather information
2:22 and deliver it faster and more
2:24 accurately but as society changes to
2:27 accommodate in all machine service world
2:29 it'll also open up new jobs for the next
2:32 generation writing software repairing
2:34 and maintaining robots and developing
2:36 new and better systems most notably
2:38 machines are also primed to take over
2:41 dangerous jobs firefighting mining
2:43 deep-sea oil drilling construction and
2:45 other careers with high mortality rates
2:47 will be replaced by machines that can't
2:50 get sick or hurt we don't know what an
2:52 all AI workforce will look like yet but
2:54 many economists believe that the world
2:56 might be a brighter and more rewarding
2:58 place with machines taking over the more
3:03 dull and hazardous jobs as we develop
3:05 better AI we're discovering that it
3:08 cannot just replace human labor but also
3:11 think in ways that humans can algorithms
3:12 that can monitor and process massive
3:14 amounts of information and make
3:16 conclusions based on patterns in that
3:18 data are poised to change every avenue
3:20 of society starting from something small
3:22 like optimizing traffic patterns over
3:24 time to figure out the best routes to
3:26 take or how to fix roads and rebuild
3:28 highways all the way to something much
3:30 more serious like monitoring epidemics
3:32 and disease and stopping them before
3:34 they spread machine learning has even
3:36 shown to analyze human behavior and
3:38 predict warning signs but recognizing
3:40 common language used by people like
3:42 sexual predators or terrorists and
3:44 alerting law enforcement to take action
3:46 then again that same technology can be
3:48 used to track down political dissidents
3:51 or serve fake news to vulnerable people
3:53 while blocking out competing opinions
3:55 and information just a few tech
3:57 monopolies control the latest
3:58 breakthroughs in data collecting
4:01 processing and analyzing and while we
4:03 may hope that AI will help advance our
4:05 society it may just end up working to
4:07 benefit the tech industry and only those
4:09 who can afford to take advantage of
4:12 cheaper smarter human replacements maybe
4:15 to the detriment of society but for now
4:17 we just don't know what the future of AI holds
