Hello and welcome to another Open Data Portal product tutorial video. The Open Data Portal is a platform that empowers you to discover and easily extract USPTO data in one place. In this video, we'll explore how to register for an Application Programing Interface, or API, key and authorizing your account with ID.me. To protect sensitive information and prevent fraudulent activities We require identity verification for uspto.gov account holders. With the new OTP platform. All API keys need to be authorized by ID.me before they can be assigned to your account. You can link your ID.me account to your uspto.gov account and, once completed, you'll be able to access your ODP API key at any time. There are three important things to know when creating your new API Key. One, you may access your API key through MyODP found on the main navigation of the site. MyODP is a single place for you to actively manage your ODP data portfolio and view information about your API key. Two, you'll need a USPTO account to be able to access your MyODP dashboard. And three, you must have an ID.me account validated and linked to your USPTO account to get your API key from the MyODP page. You will see that there are three options to register for an API key. The first one is if you already have a USPTO account verified with ID.me and you simply want to log into your MyODP page. The second button is if you already have a USPTO account, but your ID.me account hasn't been linked to your USPTO account, or you don't have an ID.me account and need to register for one. And the last option is if you don't have either a USPTO account or an ID.me account and need to create both. For this video tutorial, we're going to go through the process of registering for a USPTO account, as well as creating and linking it to your ID.me account. The first thing we're going to do is click the “I don't have a USPTO account” link at the bottom of the sidebar. This will take you to the USPTO’s create a uspto.gov account registration page. After you've entered all the necessary information, you will click next to start creating an account. The process of creating a USPTO account requires that you verify your account either through email or another USPTO approved method. Once your account has been successfully created, you will be redirected to your new USPTO account dashboard. On the USPTO dashboard, you'll see a section to authorize your account using ID.me. You will then click “Verify with ID.me” to link your USPTO account with an ID.me account. In the ID.me sign in modal you can either sign in with your existing admin account or, in our case, click “Create an ID account” to create a new one. Creating an ID.me account requires multifactor authentication using a valid government issued ID, your Social Security number, and verifying your account using an ID.me approved method. Just a reminder, you only need to authorize your USPTO account with ID.me once. After that, it should remain authorized. Once you have successfully authorized your USPTO account with ID.me you will see a successful “You have been ID.me verified” notification within the ID.me section of your USPTO dashboard. You can now go back to your MyODP account page, where you will be automatically logged in using your ID.me verified USPTO account. In the case that it doesn't automatically log you in, click the blue “Log in with my USPTO account” button and enter the username and password of your new ID.me verified USPTO account. On your MyODP page, you'll be able to view, access and copy your assigned API key. This concludes this video on registering for an API key using your USPTO account and ID.me. Again, linking your ID account to your USPTO account is a one time registration. Once completed, you will be able to access your API key at any time. If you want more information on this process, you can visit our API Getting Started page or the API key section of the ODP FAQ support page.
