looking at calculating the molar mass of
a gas using the ideal gas equation we'll
start by looking at an example 1.10 G of
an unknown gas occupies a volume of 567
cm cubed at STP calculate the molar mass
of the gas to solve this we'll use the
equation molar mass equals Mr RT / PV m
is molar mass in G per mole small m is
mass in g r is a universal gas constant
p is the pressure in pascals and V is
the volume in me cubed so here we have
the same equation with the values
substituted in the mass of the gas is
1.10 G the universal gas constant is
8.31 JW per Kelvin mole the temperature
in Kelvin at STP is
273 the pressure of a gas at STP is 1. *

pascals and to convert from cm cubed to
me cubed we divide the value in cm cubed
by 1 million this gives us a molar mass
